Synopsis

Wei Qing died a cautionary tale– falling from ‘that other family’s child’ to ‘that profligate waste’ in only a decade of effort. He played games he shouldn’t with stakes he couldn’t afford, and when it all came crashing down, there was no one left beside him to pull him back from the ledge. All that people remembered was his pretty face… And the embarrassing circumstances of his death.

His life could truly be called meaningless.

Maybe that’s why the universe decided not to count it, and sent him back instead.

Back to when he’d just started to lose control. Before he fell into the gaze of the man who would see him dance right off the edge, a smile on his devil’s face until the moment of death. Back to when Yue Fei was still trying, in his own quiet way, to save him from himself. Yue Fei-

Things had started to go wrong, when they parted. He had not realized what those feelings were, until it was too late. But now– This time, he’d finally do things properly. Prove himself, get the guy, walk away. That family of his could bite one another to death, for all he cared. He just wanted a quiet life. With Yue Fei.

Yue Fei died unresigned. Working himself to the bone, trying to save the elder after losing the junior. Failing at both. In the end, what had he accomplished? That beautiful idiot Wei Qing was dead, and even his elder brother, who was intelligent and decent, had eventually followed him.

There was a scream and high beams against his eyes and then, nothingness, as the world crumpled around the two of them. You couldn’t tell Yue Fei it was an accident. Clearly, he was not the earth-shattering genius that could go against fate.

Wei Qing ignored his advice and died. Wei Qiwan took his advice and died a bit more slowly.

Yue Fei is done with it! His life was meaningless!

Maybe that’s why the universe decided not to count it, and sent him back instead.

Back to when he was still cleaning up after the one-night stands of Wei Qing, only one year left on his contract. The contract he’d extended, over and over again, trying to keep that fool from foolishness. (A fool’s errand). This time-

This time, he’d finally extricate himself from those two. Walk away before it hurt too much, to see the unfairness of the world. If they were destined to be hurt… he’d rather not see it. This time, he’d finish out his contract and walk away, to someplace warm and peaceful and far away from the meaningless corporate warfare that had cost him everything. He just wanted a quiet life. Far away from the Wei family.

The chaotic double-rebirth of an easily manipulated pretty boy who trusts (and mistrusts) the wrong people x emotionally exhausted guard/assistant/nanny who is trying to extricate himself from this messiness but is weak to brattiness. A story about healing and second chances, and what it looks like when you spend your rebirth chasing your happiness before revenge. With some comedy thrown in, because I really can’t help myself.

    • Ah, I’m so glad! Right now there’s a re-write in a later arc to resolve a tangle that developed, and based on that, I expect the chapter count will expand, but at present 80ish appears to be the sweet spot.

  1. That bio smells sus but I’m still gonna jump into this perfectly nice pit Infront of me because…

    Why not ╮(^▽^)╭

    • Ah, I’m glad! Hey, even fuck-ups deserve a second chance right? Although I sometimes pretend not to know him, Wei Qing is a good child at heart! And Yue Fei really earns his salary. 😂

  2. Ooh, this sounds interesting! And as long as the knives come with a unhealthy dose of sugar, I can bear it ahah 🥰💪💪💯

    • Check your blood sugar and check it often! Most knives are in the past (or are remnants of the past) but the sugar is ever-flowing.

      Thank you for reading!

  3. Hi, I created this account just to comment here. You write beautifully. Stumbled on this story couple of days ago and finished the posted chapters today. Engrossing and engaging read. Thank you

  4. I loved this, and have been recommending it everY chance I get. Thank you SO much for an amazing, healing story! Can’t wait to read your next story 😎

    • Thank you so much, I’m so glad that you enjoyed it! And I’m honored that you’ve been spreading the word– as a new author, recommendations mean so much! 🌺

    • Hi! Honestly, not much.

There is a small sideplot of Wei Qing getting back into it and launching a line of robotic products, but it’s relatively minor. and there’s no trade wars or anything. While a decent amount of the story takes place in an office (since his brother is the President and the MC is a VP), it’s not a big focus.

Thanks for asking and considering this!

      🌺
