Fuck-Up's Guide to Falling In LoveCh48 - Chase, Woo, Coax, Force

Wei Qing freezes as something acidic starts to boil in his gut and all that champagne rushes back up, like he’s some prehistoric lizard and this is his last line of defense. One heartbeat, two, a sickness that paralyzes as old clashes with new and the beauty of his past with Gao Zhong is shattered by the way this him, this thing that takes without asking, overlaps with Yang Wushe, and another night, a lifetime ago.  RH9yFt

He-

He doesn’t want this. Doesn’t want, doesn’t wan’t doesn’t wa nttt-

He’s lost control of his lungs, and his legs, and he wants to cry and scream and throw himself into the coldest ocean and escape this contact.

Is it him? Why is it him? What is he doing and saying to make people casually play with him? He was good with Gao Zhong and good to Yang Wushe and he’s worked so hard, and yet, the minute he’s alone, why is he meat on the market, not worth respecting? Only worth taking from, not even given the right to keep himself to who he wants. Why?  A Tnic

Why is he so weak and pathetic that he can’t even run or fight, but solidifies into self-hatred instead?

Like this is all inevitable, like this is all there is for him.

He doesn’t–

He can’t move at all.

iFYOBN

To some people, no response is the same as a good response.

Gao Zhong’s hand is on his neck and he’s trying to deepen the kiss and Wei Qing-

Wei Qing vomits in his mouth, and down the front of the artistic linen suit that he’s wearing. A rush and then a dribble, of champagne and bile and bits of pastry, spreading between them. He doesn’t apologize. Gao Zhong deserves it and so does he. He deserves to feel ashamed, for attracting this kind of attention, and for not fighting back quickly enough, and for-

They both deserve to be humiliated, he only wishes that he’d eaten dinner, so that the bile wasn’t just champagne and acid, so that it would be disgusting enough to match what had just happened. It should be something heavy and oily and impossible to wash out. Should be the scent of decay and decomposition, to match-  IvT1k

Gao Zhong is heaving and softly cursing.

It helps bring Wei Qing back to Earth, no matter how shattered the floor he’s standing on feels. Wei Qing wipes his mouth, from the spit and the memory as much as the stomach contents. He hates him. He hates both of them. He hates not being able to protect the beauty that he’s been quietly cherishing.

“Surnamed Gao, don’t look for me or speak to me ever again.”

Gao Zhong looks up, something revolted and revolting shining through before his mask clicks back into place and he sighs, as if they can still be friends. 072dHR

As if he’ll ever again get within range of him.

“A’Qing doesn’t mean that. We can’t help our feelings, any more than your boyfriend can.”

At the word ‘feelings’ Gao Zhong’s eyeline shifts, and Wei Qing feels his stomach fall into the abyss. He knows. He’s- of course his luck is like this. He doesn’t turn, he doesn’t want to, he doesn’t know how to explain his dirtiness–

Sure enough, almost as soon as Gao Zhong stops speaking, it’s the scent of Yue Fei on the wind.  mILCnU

Hot tears burn Wei Qing’s eyes and he hangs his head in bitterness. Even before Yue Fei arrives to break it off, he’s begging under his breath, not brave enough to look back or speak louder or explain. Clearly, based on where they are, based on Gao Zhong’s words, Yue Fei saw at least part of it. Saw him entangled again.

Gao Zhong and Yang Wushe overlapped for him.

Chrysanthemum Garden.

How many nights just overlapped for Yue Fei? How many scenes of him embarrassing himself with anyone near enough to kiss?

Wei Qing hopes Yue Fei beats both of them.  Tf2mJs

He feels Yue Fei’s body heat and braces–

Yue Fei wraps him up in a hug, blocking the wind.

Wei Qing’s mind empties. Nothing makes sense.

UFqs3i

“Yue Fei, A’Qing and I can’t help it, we have such a strong foundation.”

“Shut up.”

“I don’t want to be the third party, but I can’t help– after all, it was only distance. You never forget your first, I’m sure you’ve heard it?”

“First what, victim?” Yue Fei’s voice is colder than the wind whippping past them.  ZTFiEc

Wei Qing looks up in anger mixed with relief. Yue Fei saw? Yue Fei understood even when he didn’t?

“Victim? A’Qing-”

Yue Fei’s hands slide up to Wei Qing’s shoulders and spin him into face-to-face contact. Gao Zhong’s input doesn’t matter. He’s not even a person. He’s just a corpse rotting away in a bricked-up room. Wei Qing is the only one who matters on this roof. In the world. Yue Fei wants to hold his face and spirit him away, settles for a finger coming up and rubbing the silent tears away.

“Baby, did you want to kiss him?” 61qKp9

“You’re ask-? No! I didn’t! I swear, I didn’t, I didn’t even want to talk, I just-” Wei Qing clings to him, eyes wider than he’s ever seen, the matching designs of their suits overlapping, from when this night was still fun for them.

Yue Fei nods and kisses his forehead. As he thought. Fucking trash is trash, no matter how long it stays away or what kind of background it scrounges up. He blames himself for not learning his lesson and vetting the guest list. Blames himself for walking off and trying to earn points by buying a painting for Wei Qing, when he should have been more circumspect. From now on, he must be diligent in building a ban against the monster in front of him. Yue Fei cradles Wei Qing’s head and wishes the roof was higher, so that he could push Gao Zhong off and return him to his correct state of existence.

“You assaulted him. Because time can’t fix trash.” Yue Fei speaks as if he’s stating facts. Righteousness has always been his preference. Gao Zhong’s rapidly collapsing mask is a nice bonus. Yue Fei calms himself by remembering the man’s last death.

Really unlikeable.

Chrysanthemum Garden.

“Ah, you’re right.” Yue Fei knows violence isn’t the answer. And yet. He throws a jab from nowhere, straight into Gao Zhong’s vomit-spackled face. “You’re shorter, so it should be punching down.”

He doesn’t manage to lay him flat out, but getting the man to crumple to a knee is good enough. Given the location and possible impending audience. XFGV5s

Gao Zhong is furious but after venting his anger, Yue Fei doesn’t do him the honor of paying attention. Instead, he pulls out a handkerchief to wipe his hand and Wei Qing’s face. Yue Fei doesn’t even look at him as they leave, just tossing back a mild “The Longs are good friends of the Weis. I suggest you and your ruined clothes find an exit.”

Yue Fei leads by example, turning his back on the wincing and cursing Gao Zhong and heading towards the door. As a qualified observer, he knows more than he’s given credit for. He can hit Gao Zhong, at least once, and if Gao Zhong publicizes it, he’s just an all-in-one doing his job settling his boss’s annoyances. But Gao Zhong? Who has worked so hard to stay classy? If he does something like blindsiding Yue Fei, he’s just someone uncouth enough to scrap with the help at a society function.

Sometimes, social stratification has its benefits.

Yue Fei lifts the hand he’s holding and kisses Wei Qing’s knuckles.  Y5sHyn

“Baby, you good to go home?”

“Please.”

Yue Fei adjusts his collar until it’s perfect and leads the way into the gallery, weaving through the crowds like an eel, fluid and untouchable. They make excellent time to the exit, helped in large part by the fact the Wei Qiwan is nowhere in sight. The whole way, Wei Qing stays close and quiet, Yue Fei keeping in calming contact with him as the valet takes their token and the music plays and the wind sweeps through a city just starting to fall asleep after a long day.

What a nice night, ruined by such trash. TsJLZ9

“I’m so sorry.” Wei Qing looks down at the travel toothbrush in his hands, and the bottle of mineral water and fucking cup, that Yue Fei had spirited out of who knows where, after stopping a block away, parking before handing them over.

He’s so dirty.

Yue Fei curses lowly and kills the engine, grabbing the keys and moving to the backseat.  dQrbqU

“Wei Qing.”

Wei Qing picks the stitching of his jacket, feeling like a complete joke. He signed his name on the man, but he can’t even keep his fucking legs closed and his mouth honest, he’s the most boldfaced, pathetic-

Yue Fei tilts his jaw and gets close enough that Wei Qing temporarily loses his higher cognition.

“Wei Qing. I don’t mean it like that. I don’t care, not the way you think. Never like that.” yLpg8R

He sighs and moves close enough that their lips are practically touching. Wei Qing flinches and Yue Fei raises an eyebrow and speaks like he’s smoothing out a cat’s fur.

“See? The only reason I’m not kissing you is out of respect for your squeamishness. Not mine. And if you don’t brush your teeth and swish quickly, you’re going to deal with whatever embarrassment you’ll feel over me tasting your vomit.”

Please support our translators at chrysanthemumgarden (dot) com

The fuck?

Wei Qing leans back, uncaps, and brushes very aggressively, still staring at Yue Fei as if he’s grown two heads. Or at least a new, unexpected and unwanted fetish. It’s one thing to kiss him the way he does after a blowjob, but this– vomit is never sexy, okay? Never mind the rest of it! The ludicrousness works oddly well to break Wei Qing out of his spiral of self-loathing and disgust.  fYWawl

“Good boy.”

Wei Qing shakes his head at the wrongness of being called good after what he’d just done. And then, after brush two, Yue Fei’s patience with his self-hatred seems to reach its limit. Probably, it’s because of the blood that backwashes into the cup. With half a mouth of water and toothpaste foam still in, Yue Fei pulls him up and kisses him.

It’s–

So soft? And stirring?  9RbYlk

Wei Qing expected a ‘prove-something’ domination or a punishment of teeth and aggression, but Yue Fei is kissing him like he wants to map every part of his mouth, like he wants to clear away every bad touch and replace them with his own, like a downpour coming just before the wildfire claims the mountain, a miracle drug before the virus escapes confinement.

Wei Qing’s hands knot into his hair and his body seeks comfort and somehow, at some point, he ends up pinned between Yue Fei and the leather so close that he’s convinced that he’s about to become one with the backseat of this towncar. He’s grateful, but like so often after his rebirth, he can’t begin to understand. And that’s scary enough to force him to ask, no matter how afraid he is of breaking the bubble and earning the disgust and disdain that he feels should take this softness’s place.

“Why aren’t you-?” Why don’t you hate me? Or at least want to punish me for being easy and uncareful? You know what I am, so how can you possibly-?

“Baby. What kind of thing is he for me to trust over you?” 7gG35o

Yue Fei kisses him, more gently this time, eyes overflowing with something very, very soft. If there wasn’t the tiniest bit of regret leaking out, Wei Qing would almost feel like the roof was some bad dream, the ‘fuck you’ of some ancient bit of drugs finally dislodging in his system.

“I’m sorry.”

“I’m sorry I wasn’t there. I’m sorry he did that to you.”

Did that to you.  x7td4H

“He’s right, I should have fought back-”

Yue Fei sighs and traces his face. Wei Qing notices the tremble in his hands. Well hidden, but not flawless.

“Instinct is what it is. If you want to train, we can. But you’re also perfect as is.”

Wei Qing chokes on a bitter laugh. Yue Fei bites his chin and presses down on him, firmer. Not to be ignored.  Ssjat9

“The first time I slept with a woman, I froze. Couldn’t finish. Couldn’t even talk after, from the wrongness of it. But I didn’t push her away. Everyone was watching and- I froze and let it happen. Are you saying I wasn’t forced?”

“Of course not! That’s- that- you were raped, even if you-”

Chrysanthemum Garden.

Yue Fei kisses his eyelids. Cuts him off, and Wei Qing thinks he’s not the only one with cognitive dissonance. They’re both kinder to one another than they are to themselves, but since Wei Qing can’t think too much, he cuts off the thought and focuses on noticing all of Yue Fei’s little tells instead. Looking for evidence that he’s faking it, that he’s forcing himself for him. If he is, he’ll punish himself, stay in a hotel, turn over his phone, whatever the right form of self-flagellation is.

“Mmm. He forced you too.” rPQTsK

“You can’t actually be okay with this.”

“Of course I’m not.” A kiss on his cheek. “I’m angry he forced you.” Another on its twin. “I’m furious that he disrespected the memories you had.” A soft line of them across his forehead. “I’m upset that I wasn’t there, that I didn’t check ahead of time that he might be in attendance.” Even his nose is softly pressed. “But what part of that blame is yours?”

“Yue Fei-”

“Baby.” Yue Fei shifts his weight. Looks down like he can do this all night, but the location isn’t convenient.  DkWX6S

“En?”

“Home?”

“Okay.”

It’s hard to resolve anything in the back of a car on a quiet street. Also, the couple’s suits are really nice. They deserve better than to be wrinkled and pressed and possibly even torn over someone as unimportant as Gao Zhong.  Yue Fei steals another kiss before he leaves the back and returns to the front seat to take them home. Away from all this hurtful bullshit.   MZHILg

Meanwhile, Gao Zhong is stuck on the roof.

He can only blame himself for wearing a light-colored suit; although Wei Qing’s obnoxious follower had threatened him with the Long family, Gao Zhong has to weigh the likelihood of getting thrown out again with the reality that if he leaves as instructed, he’ll look like a sloppy drunk asshole at worst, or someone thrown up on by a drunk at… equally bad.

Add in the spreading red on his jaw, and Gao Zhong can only light another cigarette and clench his fist. Before, it might have just been casual interest and annoyance, but now… Now, Gao Zhong, really, really wants to spend a few rounds venting with Wei Qing. His interest or his ire, he can’t really differentiate, is definitely aroused.  wDrE9V

How delicious would it be, to wrap Wei Qing up and relearn his body and to send the evidence along to that jackass that was interfering with their story? He’d been the one who put in the work, he’d been the one who first taught Wei Qing, how dare a third party appear? Random bedmates were one thing, but for a nobody who hadn’t even gone to college to share the same title as him was… Unacceptable.

When they’d broken up, Gao Zhong had very carefully left things open-ended. He’d bet on Wei Qiwan not having the strength to clearly discuss things, bet on that open door remaining so that even if he’d disqualified Wei Qing from being his little wife, he could enjoy a more bohemian connection upon returning.

And now the man was vomiting on him and not even apologizing. Disappointing. Crass.

His Wei Qing would die of embarrassment if he did such a thing.  ctFq N

Gao Zhong lights a third cigarette and removes his jacket.

This year, he’s twenty-five.

Chrysanthemum Garden.

He’s neither old nor young, but to hear his mother tell it, he’s at exactly at the right age to marry. Even if it chafes, he doesn’t disagree with her. He’s also eager to evolve. And small mistakes like this are enough to reduce his collateral if handled badly or witnessed by the wrong person. After all, almost every guest at this gallery is a potential match or matchmaker. As a son from a good but fading family, with an excellent education and even a European internship under his belt, coming home has a different flavor.

Return in triumph, find the best partner and marry them.  uBnE9s

This is the culmination of his (their) ten-year plan from all the way back in high school.

He just… is unresigned when it comes to letting go of Wei Qing. Or rather, unresigned to Wei Qing being the one to pull away. This entire situation is outside of all of his expectations, and he’s not adapting well to it. Even if Wei Qing isn’t ambitious enough to become his spouse, Gao Zhong had enjoyed their relationship and the dependence and openness of Wei Qing’s affection. He’d wanted him to be the one.

Even if they couldn’t be together again, he’d wanted to reclaim a bit of that. To remind them both of how well they fit together, how well their bodies knew one another.

Thus, the gifts and the approach and the kiss.  NcJGdh

But Wei Qing’s reaction had been a slap in the face. It was bad enough for him to freeze instead of giving in, but then to be so cold? Being a little upset was sweet, being unreasonable was annoying. It made Gao Zhong want to punish him. When he’d seen that nobody behind them, he’d felt that he could at least ruin their pathetic ‘relationship’. But that compensation had also seemingly been robbed.

A waste of a night, a failure of a plan.

This is what he gets for letting his feelings overwhelm his more rational considerations. To recover will take more than a little planning, and luck, which Gao Zhong has always disdained. Still…

He’s in town for the foreseeable future. In between wife-hunting, he can fix his mistakes.  P4EsUm

And then, when Wei Qing is panting for him–

Then, he’ll be back in control and able to decide on punishment or forgiveness.

He snuffs out his last cigarette, neatly folds the jacket across his arm, and descends through the throngs and into the night, close enough to the walls that he’s able to avoid all but a few raised eyebrows at his obviously rumpled state.

1vlY7W

Wei Qiwan is able to escape Long Shouning’s claws after a single embarrassing loss at Go. Which is getting off very lightly, he knows. Well, a single loss and being forced to drink three cups while calling out jiejie.

Sometimes, he thinks Long Shouning toys with him for fun.

Or maybe nostalgia? While Long Shouning had no shortage of suitors in high school and beyond, it’s true that Wei Qiwan, with his parentification and straightforward if stilted personality, had been a little more obvious than most in his adoration. And more reserved than all in… never ever coming close to confessing.

From the time he was small, he knew her elder brothers and was thrown over to them to learn, compliments of his father calling the Long patriarch ge. If the Long family were the dragons of their region, the Wei were… a little river snake that the dragon decided was cute and decided to bring into its nest.  TvOnkq

You could learn, you could be grateful, but you shouldn’t overstep and start thinking that you’d grow claws. Having a crush on the baby girl of the family was a compliment. Thinking you could actually act on it was a disrespectful delusion.

So Long Shouning merrily tortured him with her familiarity while he did his best not to take it to heart.

Please visit chrysanthemumgarden (dot) com

Thus, although they didn’t meet often (because Wei Qiwan has some measure of self-preservation), every time they did, it played out like tonight had. The only difference was that the investigation into Yue Fei and Long Shouning’s willingness to hit her middle brother had pierced a little of the casualness between them and made their connection more genuine. And dangerous.

Speak of the devil– efvuFK

Just as Wei Qiwan is ready to exit the lounge of his defeat, Long Shouguo appears.

Appears and leans against the doorjamb, massaging his jaw like he’s still remembering his little sister’s rude treatment months earlier.

“Sure enough, if NingNing isn’t stalking prey, it’s because she’s already dragged it back to her nest. Been awhile, Xiao Wei.”

Shithead. Wei Qiwan nods and runs his tongue against his teeth, warning himself. “Long Shouguo, it has been too long.” 8EqBzk

“Really? Great! You know, over the last couple of years, I had the strangest sensation that you were avoiding me.”

Jackass.

“You’re thinking too much. Why on earth would I avoid you?”

“That’s what I thought. But between that and NingNing being so aggressive, I really started to think there might be some grievance. If so, naturally, as your good friend, I must take this opportunity to resolve it.” wRteO

Wei Qiwan looks casually at Long Shouning, hoping that being called NingNing will make her angry enough to chase her brother out. Unfortunately, she just smiles and excuses herself.

Fuck. Betrayal.

So that’s how it is. Sure enough, the game of Go was just a precursor, and the Long siblings have managed to trap him here during the real game. Manipulative, smart, attractive jerks. The lot of them. What kind of jiejie hits someone for him, only to obviously set them up behind the scenes after? He wants his affection back.

Instead, like the tree stump he is, Wei Qiwan unbuttons his suit jacket and sits down with feigned indifference.  HB6aWK

Long Shouguo takes a long look at him and tuts.

“Sure enough, you’re still pissed about your little QingQing?”

“Nope.” Too fast. He’s always been a shit actor. Everyone says it. Long Shouguo sighs and sits down, ready to make peace.

“It was just advice. You’re the one who took it.” aCoq4v

Wei Qiwan snorts.

Long Shouguo isn’t wrong, he’s just an asshole. An asshole that Wei Qiwan had gone to for advice, when he first saw those unbearable images of his little brother underneath a snake, totally unaware of how he was being violated. Not realizing that he was being filmed, not knowing that the person he was shouting he loved was going to use him as a weapon. Wei Qiwan was laughably out of his depth in dealing with it. And who could he go to for advice? How could he spread Wei Qing’s business?

Chrysanthemum Garden.

He had a younger brother, Long Shouguo had a younger sister; Long Shouning, for all her beauty, had never been betrayed in such a way as far as he knew. And he knew enough to know that she wasn’t some princess locked away in a tower– she was living a full life. Discrete and respectful, but experienced. He knew she’d had at least a couple boyfriends. And she was seemingly unbothered by anything like what Wei Qing had run into at his very first time at bat.

Wei Qiwan made the mistake of assuming that that meant that the means of the Long family were good.  M8sqeU

“Your advice sucked.” Wei Qiwan finally can’t bear it and grinds out the words.

“Did it?” Long Shouguo pours himself a drink and speaks as if observing clouds. Really annoying!

“What, you don’t listen to gossip?”

“As a rule? No. High blood pressure runs in our family, it’s best not to get involved in unnecessary drama.” dC39wQ

Not get involved? Not get involved?! Who was it who used the reputation of an experienced elder to tell me that Wei Qing’s matters were my fault? That I’m the one that told everyone how important he was, without ever building up his self-protection ability? Who was the one talking about fucking greenhouses?! About deciding if I wanted to keep him gentle but common, or fierce but lovely, but that that the current configuration couldn’t hold, and I had to decide whether to sacrifice our closeness or his idealism?!

Wei Qiwan takes advantage of Long Shouguo taking a drink to excuse himself and flee. Otherwise, he’s going to end up blowing his top and making things worse. According to that stupid app, anyway.

When even the dust from his car disappears, Long Shouning returns to the room and ruffles her brother’s hair, somewhat mean-spiritedly revealing the small thinning patch at the center.  iG5o36

“Still not getting along with your brother-in-law?”

“Disloyal!” Long Shouguo attempts to salvage his suave looks.

He’s only been married three years, and he is still showing his best side so that his wife will be happy and his competitors will be quiet. And now, just because of some old mistakes and bad personal taste, his own sister is leading the charge in exposing him. Women who want to marry themselves off really are like spilled water! He complains bitterly, checking his handsomeness in the mirror of the lounge.

“Don’t talk to me. Does he even know he’s my brother-in-law? Scary girl. And anyway, you should know your hubby best. I’m sure I’ll get some excoriating email in the next few days once he’s been pent-up to the limit.” yGgSBc

Long Shouning re-applies her lipstick and smiles at her dumb middle brother.

“As long as you know your wrongs.”

Long Shouguo gives up. He and his sister simply aren’t speaking the same language.

Author’s Corner:  NkrCDy

I hope this goes without saying, but Wei Qing’s views at the start of this chapter are certainly not ones I advocate, although I certainly understand them. I think many people, especially men, are socialized to believe that assault looks a certain way, and that consent is something that needs to be loudly denied, rather than enthusiastically given. Wei Qing’s beliefs about masculinity and about the right way to ‘fight back’ are so ingrained that even though he can’t control his fight/flight/freeze/fawn response, he’s blaming himself for freezing instead of fighting. And that’s really sad. But more common in real life than I think most of us want to admit.

Anyway, if it helps, this is the penultimate Gao-knife. So we’re got that going for us.

  1. I could tell Wei Qing’s opinion of his own response was leftover scarring and not thought of objectively. I hope he goes for the training. On a lighter note, I think Wei Qiwan’s going to need some training too 😄.

    • Yes, probably both of the Wei boys could use some assistance. Wei Qing in learning to let go and not take on blame he doesn’t deserve, and Wei Qiwan on how to approach awkward situations without either fleeing or saying something he shouldn’t. Luckily, they both have people invested in their welfare (though Wei Qiwan doesn’t seem to know it yet).

  2. Thank you for the chapter ♡

Ahhh, how dare he hurt baby Wei Qing

    (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻

Yue Fei for the rescue, I would’ve cried if it wasn’t for him being this observant about Wei Qings self hatred and immediantly understanding what the fuck was going on T-T

I’ll just take a moment to appreciate the mess that is Wei Qiwan and the Long-family T-T

I LIVE FOR THESE MOMENTS IN BOOKS.

I think it gives stories more depth if there are more things elaborated than just whats going on around the main Couple.

    • Ah, I’m glad! I also like that in stories, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little worried when NingNing brought herself into existence and I realized that I was going to be writing a het sideparing in my first posted original BL novel. And in general having certain characters appear outside of their relation to the main characters, since I know that some people just want to read the main relationship and only the main relationship (which is valid, but not something I’m very good at sticking to once the story starts to write itself).

  3. Now, you’ve made me anticipate Wei Qiwan’s story too! Yay! More than one angle to look forward to!

    • Good! I’m glad! Originally, honestly, Wei Qiwan didn’t have much going for him except regretfully orbiting Wei Qing, but between writing out what happened and why, the Long siblings came into existence and Long Shouning decided to hunt a husband. So here we are. 😄

It’s far in the future, but her reaction to Wei Qiwan in the afterlife is like… the extra that I’m most excited for, right behind the R&D team playing D&D in the most chaotic, ineffective way possible.

  4. gosh, I love NingNing and how strong she is. She is the perfect match for our Wei Qiwan!

I cant wait for that Gao trash to be sent packing for good. >_<

    thanks for the chapter <3

    • She’s a maneater, but like, in the most complimentary manner possible. And honestly, given Wei Qiwan’s tree stump qualities, anyone less determined would probably be ready to retire before he bought a clue, nevermind getting married.

Yeah, Gao Zhong is like, all the icky tropes, without any of the redeeming factors.

Thank you for reading and commenting!
