Fuck-Up's Guide to Falling In LoveCh1 - When It All Ends

Wei Qing didn’t try to stop the fall. He didn’t see the point.

No matter what, wouldn’t he be a naked splatter against the ground? What did it matter if he clung to the side or fell back like an angel? The only difference was… If he went quietly, he wouldn’t have to see any more of that cruel, bored look on Yang-ge’s face. He wouldn’t have to watch the disgust spread, overwhelming the rapture that he’d once thought he’d seen there. Wouldn’t have to hear those vicious, idle words dripping out of a mouth that had once promised him such wondrous things. kVdUSp

Yang-ge had never loved him. Never even liked him.

Yue Fei had been right all along. He was such an idiot. An idiot who had finally had enough of it. G74LBy

The call comes at 4:13 in the morning.

Comes to Yue Fei’s phone. After all, Wei Qiwan is head of the family, at least for now. And Yue Fei is his assistant. The one responsible for screening and insulating him, in that manner that the great always need. So when the police call, brusque and to the point, to paper over the luridness of what happened-

Yue Fei is the one who first hears those words. Yue Fei is the one who has to walk into the master bedroom, rouse his master, and speak. Tell him.

XRpxlI

“Wei Qing is dead.” Even with all our preparations and warnings and the false distance you forced to exist, your baby brother is dead. Dead off the balcony of the penthouse, dead and crumpled against the hood of a car in the garage below. Dead, and they politely don’t say that he did it himself, but it’s clear in the pauses.

Dead and never, ever coming back.

Wei Qiwan breaks his hand against the teak-paneled wall. Yue Fei would join him- but-

But someone will need to go collect A’Qing. Someone will need to have two healthy hands, to hold his hand or whatever was left whole after such a drop. Someone would need to organize the funeral and threaten the paparazzi and kill that piece of shit who had- KfXu2a

Who had-

Yue Fei cannot hurt his hands. They still have purpose. Still have someone to avenge.

Story translated by Chrysanthemum Garden.

Wei Qing had died thinking he hated him, hadn’t he? Had died thinking he hated him, and now Wei Qiwan will never, ever be able to make up for that mistake. To tell him just how wrong he is, how much he regrets it. He won’t ever be able to… Never again. How could he possibly handle any of this, with that inescapable injustice hanging over everything?

Wei Qiwan breaks. pXVkZB

Yue Fei is left to take care of everything.

Wei Qiwan does not bother with the mask, once the funeral begins. Pretending to despise his didi has no purpose anymore. So what, if seeing this new underbelly exposed, his opponents send those photos in, the ones from before the police arrived, of Wei Qing, naked except for the blood and bruising, on the roof of that car? Can any photo possibly hurt more than his absence? Be more painful than getting this so wrong? Than not being able to fix it, ever?

Every time, he just hands them off to Yue Fei, who grows more glacially silent every day, and does his best to dedicate himself to vengeance. Fuck the company, fuck the family, fuck anything except making Yang Wushe die more miserably than Wei Qing had. Fuck anything but tearing those hot searches and rumors down, but running those photographers and rag-writers out of business, out of health. BjzlJV

Wei Qing was not some salacious footnote. His life and death mattered, and Yue Fei and Wei Qiwan would make the world acknowledge that.

In the end, they can’t even get that right.

Eighteen months after that night at the hotel, Yang Wushe dies in a fucking helicopter accident. One that they didn’t even have a hand in, the result of his own swaggering insistence that he and his baby get a view of some waterfall in a slotted canyon, despite the crosswinds and warnings. The baby that he’d been idly using Wei Qing as a substitute for. GE4K5c

Yue Fei had read the accident report. Yang Wushe… had probably only felt a few seconds of panic, then massive, instantaneous damage. Asshole hadn’t suffered anything like what he owed them. Hadn’t died regretting what he did to Wei Qing. He… Hadn’t been thinking of him at all.

It wasn’t fair.

Life after failed vengeance- M3DBf0

Is insufferable. Wei Qiwan is only kept going by the rumors that are occasionally resurrected about his baby brother. Only kept going by the need to know if things ended with Yang Wushe, or if he was just the thorn that pricked, out of an entire trellis full of bloodthirsty roses.

After all, Wei Qing had promised that he wouldn’t go to him. Promised that he would stay home, stay good, wait to fall in love with someone worthy of it. Yang Wushe had not made any calls and no one on the staff knew how he’d invited Wei Qing over. How he’d known to send him his car.

Was there someone behind it? Someone who could still pay? Grind off even the lightest edge of this hurt?

Yue Fei is kept going by the same hollow mission, tinged with concern for Wei Qiwan, who starts alienating people with the same skill as Wei Qing once had. He- if he can keep at least one brother safe, can protect this last person that saw the real Wei Qing, under all that weakness… tro8WO

That would mean something. The real Wei Qing wouldn’t be forgotten.

He can’t do even that.

Wei Qiwan dies, alongside him. At least this time, Yue Fei doesn’t have to take the call and feel his failure. Instead, there is just the sting of high beams across his eyes, the instinctual bracing against the wheel of the town car that is being targeted, the screaming, ear-shattering collision that ends everything. GfcXMP

No one could survive it.

They lose.

Again.

They die, and the only memento of Wei Qing becomes the small shrine in Yue Fei’s room, and the larger one in Wei Qiwan’s study. That, and the newly re-relevant stories, about dead brothers and cursed families and the disappointment of the second generation. In the nine years since Wei Qing’s death, what had they accomplished? GnXx5h

Yue Fei is so very tired. Of everything.

When Yue Fei finally dies, there is a stir in the underworld. A certain pulling of strings, a checking of tokens, a righting of wrongs. Time contracts and expands as a trade is made–

A spirit that had spent years dully refusing to move on, suddenly running as fast as he could to the bridge, all to avoid the brother who was chasing after him. Caught by a red thread that is invisible to no one but the three souls involved, as Wei Qing and Yue Fei are bound together and paused, while Wei Qiwan does what he does best: gasbdp

Negotiates.

Time passes, or doesn’t… It’s hard to say, in this underworld that isn’t, under this tree that freezes and changes like some reality that is out of sync. Finally… Faces obscured, Yue Fei and Wei Qing, who had spent this whole time curled up and refusing to move on, share from the same bowl of Old Lady Meng’s soup. Forgetfulness–

Incomplete. Shared between them.

The impermanence watch as the well of reincarnation flows backward, just long enough to suck those two souls up. Off to the side, separate, always separate, Wei Qiwan does not drink. Nor follow. After all, trades only work when something can be exchanged. As a businessman, he clearly understands this. Y8Expo

He follows his new superiors to a different existence, on a different level of this bureaucracy of life and death.

The chance to try again–

Giving that to them is worth more than all his futures, laid end to end. Hell could be nice, as long as his didi wasn’t stuck in it. As long as this time, he had enough sense, and Yue Fei to better watch over him…

Wei Qiwan descends, mercury-etched contracts of servitude carving themselves into his death-paled skin. It burns, but for the first time in nine years, he can smile without falsehood. RUh2Nd

Be good to him.

Author: Hello everyone! Welcome to the story of a child who hasn’t fully grown up, learning how to be a real person alongside his repressed-with-good-reason assistant/nanny/gong. Although the first chapter is a little heavy as it relates to the circumstances of their rebirth, the actual tone of the novel is a lot closer to Chapter 2, which is why I posted both at once to avoid false advertising! If you’re interested at all, please take the time to try it out. Thank you all very much, I’m excited to be here!

  1. So the older brother sacrificed himself for the other two? Then will he no longer exist in the new timeline?

    • First comment, first comment.

(Thank you for reading and commenting).

Wei Qiwan will still exist, but with no awareness of the deal he’s made, as the him in this timeline is the him from before he made it. (Thus, not being able to help his brother himself and having to entrust it all to Yue Fei instead). What he’s given up in exchange for their second chance is all his future reincarnations.

  2. I don’t mind the knives (if you don’t mind mine in retaliation)

Great start!! Can’t wait to have more 😋

  3. Poor older brother just wants the best for his baby brother. I’d give up a lot for my little brother too. I love that big kid do much. Bug I dont think hed ever want me to do something like that bc his big sister I’d the bestest in his words

  4. Urgh… Thank you, it was.. good. Now, despite the joy of reading next chapters, I wanna story from you, dear author, about big bro and his afterlife-servitude-contract…

  5. Welp I’m camping out here for a bit. This is a really compelling start, and reallly showcases the dispare and futality they feel. and damn thats one caring older brother. Excited to bing the next 50 some odd chapters. I’m a sucker for when both MC’s reencarnate or when the other is aware they did 🙂

  6. Ok that was intense but also possibly one of the best, clearest and most direct starts to a reincarnation/rebirth novel I’ve ever read. Good quality.

  7. The way it’s written reminds me of fanfics in ao3, it’s so… I can’t word it but it definitely flows so well compared to the usual cn novels I’ve read before where they use basic (?) flowery words. This one has more details in its wording I think. Me likes 😻👍

  8. Wow a knife at the very start from a martyr older brother..I hope he has happiness in another time. In another universe where he’s the protagonist

    Coughanotherbookcough?

  9. What the hack! First chapter and I find this sorrow already! Can’t we see wei qiwan anymore? Is the stupid didi cancan’t have the stupid gege anymore?? Make them happy please TT
