When Zhou Xiwei was a child, that’s what his sister and his Song-ge would tell him, every time he was excluded or suffering. Normally, they’d say it right before getting vengeance on his behalf. It was a great comfort, to think of karma balancing things. The pain that he suffered was a deposit towards future happiness, and even the coldest world might one day turn beautiful.
Then he grew up, and understood that karma wasn’t real.
Then? Then a great many things happened. He nearly died. He saw a dead man come back to life. He watched a young woman be buried over a piece of cheap plastic tubing and the world itself reverse.

It’s a promise and a curse. It’s the way of things, on the mysterious island where Zhou Xiwei washes up alongside the other members of an ill-fated yacht charter. Fog and secrets both shroud Uto, but he’s–
Enchanted? Can you really be enchanted in the middle of a ghost story? Is that even allowed?
He’s sure that his favorite fairytales never covered that. But he’s also sure that Shan Haoyu is just too wonderful, and he can’t seem to let go, so… Enchanted he is. Enchanted and desperate to unwind the mystery before the body count rises so high that he can’t look at himself in the morning.
As long as everyone’s good and decent, it should be fine! They can be happy! He’ll break the curse and bring his lover away and- And first he just needs to figure out what the curse is. And how to break it. And dammit, why are his fellow castaways committing crimes again?! How is he supposed to work in these conditions?!
