Ex-Husband's CallChapter 44

Tong Qiu wanted to protest.

However, before he could make a sound, Huo Zhixing has already taken a □□ out of his pocket. Q13gdc

He never knew that Huo Zhixing carried a knife with him. Of course, it might have been a recent habit – After all, they were targeted by such a madman.

Huo Zhixing fiddled with the knife and took another glance at Tong Qiu.

Tong Qiu’s hands were still behind him: one holding unto a mobile phone, while the other is secretly creeping towards his pocket.

Huo Zhixing smiled: “That is a good deal.” AHbsVo

After he said that, he has caught Zou Kai’s full attention; teeth gnashed together in anger and waiting to watch a good play.

Huo Zhixing placed the tip of the knife against his throat and looked at Zou Kai with a smile: “If I manage to hit a major artery in one try, would you let him go?”

Zou Kai laughed: “It depends on whether you can really do it.”

Huo Zhixing smiled and replied: “Okay, I would show you what it really means to be able to hit a weak point in… one, step, to, position!”

When he said the word “position”, Tong Qiu suddenly raised his hand and positioned the nozzle of the pepper spray directly in front of Zou Kai’s eyes, pushing down on the trigger immediately.

Zou Kai was caught unaware, and suddenly slackened his hold. Huo Zhixing took advantage of the occasion and pushed Tong Qiu aside before swiftly kicking Zou Kai in the knee.

Back in the day, Huo Zhixing has injured Zou Kai’s knee. Today it had been hit again and the previous injury was aggrieved, making him loose his balance and fall to the ground.

But Zou Kai was not a vegetarian after all. Falling to the ground was nothing but a momentary set back and he immediately managed to get back up again and stab Huo Zhixing with a knife in retaliation. Huo Zhixing wasn’t able to dodge and was stabbed on his shoulders. MOuh7W

Tong Qiu had just been roughly pushed aside by Huo Zhixing and fell on the side where he was scratched by the knife. Hand immediately covering the bleeding wound, he gasped aloud and did his best to overcome the pain but when he saw Huo Zhixing being stabbed, his eyes widened and all the pain he felt was forgotten.

Tong Qiu became horrified and couldn’t help but to yell in distress. Although it hadn’t been him who was stabbed, it might as well have been due to the immense pain that suddenly bloomed from his heart. He didn’t know where the sudden strength came from but he managed to stand back up again and rushed towards Zou Kai.

Hou Zhixing had been professionally trained to fight, but Zou Kai was not some random street gangster. They were equal in strength and abilities.

When Tong Qiu ran towards them, Zou Kai was facing Hou Zhixing holding unto another knife. He was shouting: “I didn’t plan on going back to prison when I came out. It’ll be worth it to be buried together with you!” xbdlv0

Zou Kai tried to stab Huo Zhixing again on his abdomen but before he could land the hit, he was knocked to the side by Tong Qiu. Due to the impact, he managed to let go of the knife and it scraped Tong Qiu’s face.

They both fell on the ground. Upon seeing this, Huo Zhixing rushed to Zou Kai and twisted his arm, dislocating it.

Zou Kai howled in pain, scaring Tong Qiu.

Although one arm was now indisposed, Zou Kai still used his other hand to grab the knife again and hack it towards Huo Zhixing’s direction. SwVjDq

Tong Qiu’s brain buzzed when he saw Zou Kai grab the knife. What happened next was completely due to the adrenaline rushing through his veins – he picked up the knife Hou Zhixing dropped in the beginning with such speed he surprised himself, and before Zou Kai could make his mark, he stabbed the other.

The knife embedded itself into Zou Kai’s abdomen. Although Zou Kai’s aim faltered because of the sudden pain, but his knife still managed to scratch Hou Zhixing’s arm.

The three of them were all bleeding, thought it was unknown who was shedding the most.

“Tong Qiu!” Huo Zhixing yelled so hard that his throat hurt, “Handcuff him for me!” NLeMns

The yell snapped Tong Qiu back from his tired daze. He immediately took out the cuffs from Huo Zhixing’s pocket and fasten them to Zou Kai’s wrists. During the process, he found that his hands were shaking too much.

Only then did he understand why Zou Kai had been obedient when he cuffed him. QzPsX3

This time, Tong Qiu finally let himself feel relieved and slumped to the ground.

He suddenly noticed that although only a few minutes passed by, it seemed like he had survived through a century. He seemed to have experienced the worst war that only history books could depict.

Huo Zhixing pressed on Zou Kai’s wound hard. The man was a hair’s breadth away from out in pain.

He asked Tong Qiu: “Xiao Qiu, how are you?” Wivr8R

Tong Qiu’s injury wasn’t serious, but because it was the first time he incurred a knife wound, he felt that the wound was so painful he wanted to start bawling like a little child.

“I’m fine,” Tong Qiu held in his tears, “What about you?”

He tried to observe Huo Zhixing, but the lights at that part of the road was so dim that he couldn’t see the other’s expression clearly.

“I’m fine.” tk9 IG

Police sirens could be heard loudly from a far, and a moment later several police cars drove directly inside the campus and stopped in front of them.

Tong Qiu stared at the people wearing both police uniforms and casual wear going about in front of him, and looked back to Huo Zhixing as he talked to a man.

He glanced at the police car and finally let himself relax.

Tong Qiu sat on the sides and closed his eyes, frowning and wondering about what happened to his face. noKYXj

After explaining everything to He Hongtao, Huo Zhixing finally managed to get away. He squatted down beside Tong Qiu and whispered “Xiao Qiu.”

Huo Zhixing embraced Tong Qiu affectionately. He ignored his injured shoulder and asked the other, voice sounding a little choked: “How are you? Does it hurt?”

Tong Qiu was in pain, but he couldn’t say it out loud, because he knew Huo Zhixing was hurting more than him. He tried hard not to cry, but as soon as he opened his eyes and saw the other, the tears flowed out without stopping.

Tong Qiu reached out to cover Huo Zhixing’s shoulder, but the blood spilled over from between his fingers. aXYmRs

He became scared. He couldn’t stand up or move. He looked up at Huo Zhixing and wanted to wipe the blood away from his face with his other hand but remembered his hands were dirty and gave up.

Frightened and distressed by what had happened, Tong Qiu was in an unprecedented predicament. He cried and cursed: “Your ex is simply a fucking neurotic!”

A moment later, Tong Qiu and Huo Zhixing were sent to the hospital together. In the ambulance, Huo Zhixing was worried about Tong Qiu’s injury. Although the doctor reassured him countless of times that the injury wasn’t serious, Huo Zhixing still felt that the injury was worrying.

And Tong Qiu, because he really felt distressed at the sight, didn’t dare look at Huo Zhixing at all. 3OVXPG

His family’s Officer Huo had been injured in the right shoulder. Although his shoulder had already been injured just a few days ago, now it even had been stabbed.

Tong Qiu doubted if indeed the Gods had their eyes on Huo Zhixing’s right shoulder, or else how could it be constantly targeted.

“Does it hurt?” Huo Zhixing held Tong Qiu’s hand with his uninjured left hand. Their wedding rings had been stained by blood, and they had no idea whose it was. “This time it’s over. It’s all finished.”

Tong Qiu knew that he was teasing himself on purpose, but he couldn’t bring himself to laugh. H RGqC

He lowered his head and looked at the rings. It had been hard for him to stop his tears and now his nose was feeling stuffy. He just wanted nothing more than to cry into Huo Zhixing’s arms.

“Do you feel any pain?” Tong Qiu was finally willing to raise his head, but his eyes still dare not look at Huo Zhixing’s right shoulder where the injury was.

“I’m fine.” Huo Zhixing replied with a smile, “I’m more worried about you.”

Tong Qiu’s eyed reddened. He bit his lips and said nothing more, simply holding unto Huo Zhixing’s hand the whole time. His wounds didn’t seem to hurt so much. CYsqnf

“Ah, by the way,” Huo Zhixing remembered something and asked Tong Qiu, “You just mentioned about my ex before. When did you meet my ex?”

Huo Zhixing became really confused. When Tong Qiu complained earlier about how insane his ex was, he thought – which ex was Tong-laoshi talking about?

Upon hearing his question, Tong Qiu didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, so he settled on both – well, his body decided for him. “I won’t tell you.” He was embarrassed to repeat the nonsense he uttered about Zou Kai to delay time because he knew he sounded like an idiot.

“I still know even if you won’t tell me,” Huo Zhixing heard the conversation clearly on his mobile phone. “I have to clarify that Zou Kai and I have nothing to do with each other. He’s not my type.” 6Wlhaz

Tong Qiu raised his free hand to rub away his tears and asked, “Then what is your type?”

“My type, don’t you already know?”

Huo Zhixing’s injury had been serious and it took a long time for the staff at the hospital to finish treating it. Tong Qiu just stayed at his side and accompanied him, waiting for the other people from the Sanhu police station who promised to visit Huo Zhixing to arrive.

A few minutes later an anxious Zhao Heyu arrived. As soon as he saw Tong Qiu, he asked, “Which son of a bitch did it? I’m going to take the man back to my master and force him to kneel for three days and three nights!” Y3ONIF

Tong Qiu looked up at him and replied feebly, “I’ve already caught him.”

On their way to the hospital, Huo Zhixing received a call from He Hongtao who informed him that Zou Kai and his colleagues were now back behind bars. Huo Zhixing finally felt relieved.

But there was still a small part inside of him that was sceptical about this sudden peace. The more he dwelled upon it, more he felt scared. He had been traumatized enough.

The same could be said about Tong Qiu. Although he was now sitting safely at the hospital, but he still couldn’t shake off the feeling that there was still more to come. It was his first time being involved in such a chaotic situation after living in peace his whole life, so it was natural it would take him a long time to recover. pusJjr

He looked at Huo Zhixing who was still being treated beside him, and at the police officers who were guarding their door – each one of them just as worried as him about Huo Zhixing. He suddenly felt very much moved.

And guilty. He also felt guilty enough that he couldn’t lift his head.

Huo Zhixing had reminded him countless of times to always pay attention to his safety before – but because he has never experienced such things before, he never expected that what he thought only existed inside brutal television shows actually would also happen in real life. He had the impression that the current world he lived in was a peaceful one, but in fact reality was often more terrible than fiction.

For the first time, Tong Qiu really felt that while ordinary citizens were walking on a flat road comfortably, it was these policemen who stepped on the tip of a knife to pave the road for them. Z5a9i6

He had always loved it whenever he saw Huo Zhixing wearing his uniform; but now in addition to the other simply looking handsome in it, Tong Qiu held respect and admiration at the idea behind it.

It was already midnight when the hospital finally released them with a clear health bill. Huo Zhixing frowned as stroked the side of Tong Qiu’s face, taking great care not to touch the gauze placed on it.

“Home,” Tong Qiu gently kissed the other on the side of his neck, “I want to go back home.”

Zhao Heyu offered to send them home but Huo Zhixing refused. eGL42f

“All of you should return back to the station. If something happens, who would the people call?” The whole time Huo Zhixing held unto Tong Qiu’s hand, uncaring no matter how many stares they got. “We’ll take a taxi back, so don’t worry about it.”

Zhao Heyu was still a bit reluctant to let them go. Tong Qiu forced out a smile and reassured, “Don’t worry, haven’t they already caught all the people involved? Besides there’s two of us – I’ll take good care of him.”

Zhao Heyu flattened his mouth and looked like he was going to cry.

“Hurry up and go,” Huo Zhixing drove the person away. “Don’t you dare get lazy just because I’m not there.” TLONY

Zhao Heyu left with his head down, and Tong Qiu and Huo Zhixing both got into a taxi.

The driver asked where they were going and Tong Qiu told him Huo Zhixing’s address.

During the ride, none of them spoke, but as soon as they arrived home and passed through the door, they didn’t have the time to turn on the lights – Tong Qiu immediately hugged Huo Zhixing’s waist and crashed his lips to the other’s without another word.

As they kissed, he shed tears. Tong Qiu usually never cried, but he had been too emotional and scared today so he wasn’t able to hold it in. How embarrassing. kEfgHj

Huo Zhixing couldn’t move his right hand, so he could only soothe the other by gently patting him in the back using his left hand.

When Tong Qiu had enough, he leaned on the other’s arms and said: “Didn’t you say before that we share all adversities?”

Huo Zhixing smiled: “Ah well, you got hurt because of me.”

Tong Qiu’s arm also got injured. Fortunately, it was his left hand, otherwise he wouldn’t be able to write his lectures for a couple of days. yoXY32

“You got hurt because of me too.”

Huo Zhixing gently dropped a kiss on the crown of his head: “It’s my fault. I didn’t protect you well.”

Tong Qiu shook his head. He felt that he should be the one blamed the most for what happened today.

“Huo Zhixing,” Tong Qiu had been hugging Huo Zhixing the whole time, listening to the other’s heartbeat. He went silent for a moment, gritted his teeth, and finally gathered the courage to say, “When Zou Kai suddenly appeared today, you were all I could think about. I thought that if at that moment I really died, I would be nothing more than your ex-husband. I’m absolutely horrible.” 0gFMak

He paused for a moment before continuing: “I don’t think I can do this any longer.”

Huo Zhixing looked at him with a smile: “And so?”

“And so?” Tong Qiu raised his arms and wrapped it around the other’s neck, “I think we should rectify my name. Even if I encounter such situations again in the future, I want to be able to confidentially say that I am your lover. Shall we get married again?”

Nell’s Corner:

Another cliffhanger! Didn’t expect that at all sobs – I literally smacked by phone on the bed when I reached the ending hahaha! But omg at last talks of remarriage have been opened up yay~

I’d take a wager and say that finally we are done with the climax. Only less than 2o chapters are left and like half of that are just extras so yay all fluffy things should follow after this. EDBz5C

I didn’t translate the authors note this time because it was too long and the contents were the same as the one in Chapter 42. I guess the author originally wrote these three chapters much more heavily than it is now and got scolded by the readers so she had to rewrite them. They apologized once again and stated they have reflected upon their mistake.

Hope you enjoyed the chapter!

  1. Thank you for the chapter!!! Ahhhhh, finally, the villain is out of the picture and the boys can finally get re-married. Just one thing is bothering me: how was Zou Kai able to stand and act after being pepper-sprayed at close proximity? He should be blinded by this stuff and screeming in pain. Lack of research?

    • That’s a great question! I wondered the same when I read it bcs damn, mad respect to Zou Kai for being able to continue moving normally after getting sprayed by pepper spray directly to the eyes.

The author probably forgot about it ahhaha. I noticed that they don’t really put in too much details so sometimes I have to step in and clarify things lmao.

  2. the story is amazing I love it. thank you for the translation.

but i hope the reader didn’t really involved with the story. yes you can complain but it’s not good to directly involved yourself until it make the writer rewrite and change the story just to make reader happy. it’s their arts, if you like, you like, and as long as it’s happy ending, the progress in between should only belong to the writer. i feel bad for the writer. they keep apologize and revise it. it totally doesn’t sit right with me :/

  3. There’s nothing that brings a couple together faster than a threat towards their lives…. Wedding bells!!!🔔🔔🔔

  4. Something that’s been bothering me since the start of the novel is how late school ends (I think I encountered something similar in a manhua in Bilibili Comics, too). I now wonder if teachers get compensated properly for the amount of time they spend at work, and I feel like it’s so dangerous for high school students to still be in school so late at night. Is that really how it is in China? At the very least, the teachers should be provided housing nearby, while students must be required to stay in dorms for safety reasons.

  5. Uff, that was dangerous! But what now?

    Thank You for the chapter ♡(˃͈ દ ˂͈ ༶ )
