Eternities Still Unsaid Till You Love MeChapter 99

Compared to meeting Lu Heyang’s family unprepared, there was something else on Xu Ze’s mind at the moment—they were holding hands in broad daylight in full view of everyone. sp bCW

Xu Ze tried to pull his hand away but failed. Lu Heyang turned his head with a questioning expression.

“Let’s not hold hands for now,” Xu Ze reminded him in a low voice.

Chrysanthemum Garden.

“What’s wrong? It’s not like we’re having an affair,” Lu Heyang said. But to ease Xu Ze’s discomfort, he smiled and let go of his hand.

“Dr. Xu.” After the two of them came out of the exit, Lin Yumian asked Xu Ze, “Did you get some rest on the plane?” 4586G

“Uncle, mn.” Xu Ze unknowingly rambled on, “I got some sleep on the plane. Just call me… call me Xu Ze.”

Lu Heyang raised his hand and lightly patted Xu Ze’s back. He introduced Lu Qingmo to him, “Lin Yunchuan, my big sister.”

Xu Ze had only seen Lu Qingmo twice before. He remembered her as a refined but visibly weary diplomat. However, the omega in front of him seemed extremely relaxed and natural with gentle and bright eyes.

“Tata,” Lu Qingmo said, “Call him Uncle.”

MYspX2

“Uncle,” Tata obediently called out to Xu Ze, then she looked at Lu Heyang like she was unsure who he was, “This, this…”

“He’s also your uncle. Don’t you remember him?” Lu Qingmo stuffed her into Lu Heyang’s arms, “If you don’t remember, recognize him again.”

Tata tilted her head up and looked at Lu Heyang with wide eyes for a moment before calling him, “Uncle.”

Lu Heyang patted Tata’s head and asked Lu Qingmo, “Where’s brother-in-law?” MJZnF2

“He has class in the morning.”

On the way to Lu Qingmo’s house, Lin Yumian and Lu Qingmo showed Xu Ze interesting shops and buildings in the town. As they passed a dessert shop, Tata, who was sitting on Lu Heyang’s lap, suddenly exclaimed happily, “Stop, stop, rings…!”

“She likes the donuts from this place, but she’s still too young, so we have to scrape off the cream on top and let her eat just a little bit of the bread,” Lu Qingmo said as she drove.

Tata held onto Lu Heyang’s wrist to stand up and patted Xu Ze’s shoulder, “Uncle, Uncle, stop, rings, Tata, eat!” d6es40

Carried away by the request, Xu Ze almost wanted to ask Lu Qingmo to stop the car so he could buy doughnuts right away. However, Lu Qingmo said, “Little Miss Tata, asking Uncle won’t work. You can only eat donuts after dinner.”

Tata was sad but Xu Ze seemed even sadder than her. Lu Heyang just smiled without saying a word.

“I’ll buy you some later,” Xu Ze said apologetically.

“…” Tata clung to Lu Heyang’s arm like a sad koala. RUJfbz

The car stopped on the side of the road at the entrance. Just as the engine stopped, Han Jian opened the gate and stepped out. He took Tata, who kept calling “Papa”, out of Lu Heyang’s arms and extended his hand to Xu Ze, “Hello, Dr. Xu, I’m Qin Yan.”

“Hello,” Xu Ze shook his hand, “Teacher Qin.”

“So early?” Lu Qingmo asked.

“I came back right after class,” Han Jian said, “I took care of the few bags of seafood but didn’t have time to wash the vegetables.” k29q30

After inviting Lu Heyang and Xu Ze into the courtyard, Lu Qingmo held the gate and turned back, only to find Lin Yumian still standing by the car without moving, looking at something in the direction of the street.

“Dad?”

Lin Yumian turned his head and just smiled at her.

The view outside the guest room window was beautiful, overlooking the sea and distant cliffs. Xu Ze stood next to the suitcase and asked Lu Heyang, “Why didn’t you tell me before?” lAE7Df

Lu Heyang stopped pouring water and looked at him, “Are you angry?”

“No,” Xu Ze shook his head, looking a little disheartened, “I didn’t even prepare a gift. It’s impolite.”

“I just didn’t want you to go out of your way to buy a gift, so I didn’t tell you. My dad and sister feel the same way,” Lu Heyang handed him half a glass of water, “But I still want to apologize for tricking you here.”

Although Lu Heyang had already admitted his mistake, Xu Ze was more active than him in clarifying, “No, you didn’t trick me.” afxQjH

“Dr. Xu, thank you so much for your trust,” Lu Heyang looked at Xu Ze for a few seconds and said sincerely.

After lunch, Lu Qingmo and Han Jian were cutting fruit, while Xu Ze and Lu Heyang were in the small garden with the child. Lin Yumian leisurely walked out of the house, just like going on a normal walk, until he reached the street corner. Then he turned right into a coffee shop on the side of the street and walked up to the second floor.

A person opened the door to the small balcony for him. The alpha with gold-rimmed glasses was leaning back in a chair, looking down at the pedestrians and traffic below.

Lin Yumian sat down on the opposite side of the table and glanced at the coffee in front of him. He unlocked his phone to bring up a timer and said, “Five minutes.” csFy1u

With that, he tapped the screen, and the five-minute countdown began.

Lu Chengyu’s eyes fell on Lin Yumian’s face, “How’s the recovery going?”

“Thankfully, it was only a minor operation.”

“Heyang—” JGetNF

“That doesn’t seem to have anything to do with you,” Lin Yumian interrupted him, “But I was wondering if you were going to pull another stunt like letting a doctor manipulate his memories.”

He looked at Lu Chengyu and continued, “Now it’s my turn to ask. Chairman, is your shoulder still hurting?”

Chrysanthemum Garden.

The year Lin Yumian learned that Lu Chengyu had orchestrated a team of doctors to interfere with Lu Heyang’s memories. He flew to S City with a divorce agreement in hand and entered the Union government building.

Lu Chengyu was not the least bit surprised by his arrival and even waived the security check on Lin Yumian and met him alone in his office. urFvxW

Not bothering to ask questions or get angry, Lin Yumian placed the divorce papers on the desk and took a few steps back, “Please read it carefully and sign.”

“Is there anything else besides this?” Lu Chengyu didn’t even glance at the document.

“Certainly.”

The muzzle of the gun with a silencer was pointed at Lu Chengyu’s forehead from several meters away. Lin Yumian held the gun steadily, “This is the second thing, so I suggest you finish the first one first.” Af0MPE

There were at least five hidden alarm buttons within reach. If they were touched and held for three seconds, numerous guards would storm into the office to detain Lin Yumian. However, Lu Chengyu didn’t press any of them.

Bang—thirty seconds later, the bullet shot from the slightly skewed muzzle after the trigger was pulled, piercing the expensive suit and lodging in Lu Chengyu’s left shoulder.

“Everything’s fine,” Lu Chengyu answered the phone with blood-stained fingers, sounding unperturbed.

The knocking ceased. Lin Yumian removed the silencer, pressed the gun to his own temple, and said, “The third thing.”

Lu Chengyu looked straight at him for a full ten seconds. Finally, he picked up the divorce agreement and signed it.

Lin Yumian laughed both mockingly and sadly, “Lu Chengyu, it turns out you have a weakness as well.” ZOLch1

Lu Chengyu, however, spoke flatly, “It’s been a long time since you laughed.”

The abnormal, twisted, crumbling mess of a marriage had been over for many years. There had been speculation for years about the left hand of the Union Chairman—some thought it had been a political attack, others believed it was an illness.

Later, Lin Yumian realized that calmness in the face of absolute power was defiant. He used to be harsh, yet he never caused Lu Chengyu any harm by futilely waving his claws behind the bars. On the contrary, Lu Heyang was always calm and direct in front of Lu Chengyu.

That’s why Lu Chengyu presented a multiple-choice question of life and death to force Lu Heyang to submit. Lu Heyang chose to give up the option of asking for help, shattering the thin ice underneath everyone in the family—it turned out that underneath the thin ice was not icy depths but a way out. aD0tw1

In the town’s sunshine and sea breeze, Lu Chengyu remained like a sculpture devoid of human warmth. Lin Yumian had long known that such a person existed as the embodiment of power—indifferent, selfish, and unrepentant.

Lu Chengyu didn’t respond to the question about his shoulder pain. His left hand could no longer be lifted beyond 30 degrees, its sole purpose now was to maintain the appearance of a complete human being.

Story translated by Chrysanthemum Garden.

“Three more minutes,” Lin Yumian reminded him.

“Mn,” Lu Chengyu took a sip of coffee. K2ySqC

Amidst the hustle and bustle of the street, they didn’t exchange any more words, sitting across from each other until the countdown ended with the ringing alarm.

Lin Yumian put away his phone and stood up to walk out of the coffee shop, leaving the untouched cup of coffee behind.

As Tata was tired from eating and playing, Han Jian carried her off to sleep. Xu Ze and Lu Heyang also returned to their room for a nap. Xu Ze woke up after only half an hour. Sunlight seeped through the curtain, providing just enough light for him to see Lu Heyang’s face.

Over the past few nights, Xu Ze often woke up suddenly. After waking up, he would stare at Lu Heyang’s blurred profile in the dark, and then drift back to sleep. Perhaps because they had too few opportunities to be together, he subconsciously wanted to look at him a little more. hH0sTe

“Do you feel uncomfortable?” Lu Heyang’s eyelashes fluttered as he opened his eyes.

Caught in the act, Xu Ze awkwardly turned back to lie flat and replied, “No, maybe I’m just not sleepy.”

Excessive enthusiasm or formality could make Xu Ze feel pressured. But the natural attitude of Lu Heyang’s family made him feel more relaxed as if he had been with Lu Heyang for a long time and today was just a routine visit.

“Wanna go out?” Lu Heyang said, “I’ll steal my sister’s car and take you.” JZm8e3

Xu Ze scuffled up and said in a breathy voice, “Sure.”

Everyone was resting, and the house was quiet. Lu Heyang took the car keys and drove down the long street with Xu Ze.

Lu Heyang wasn’t familiar with this place, but Xu Ze was conveniently someone who never asked about the destination. The car slowly drove from downtown to the coastal road. Xu Ze silently appreciated the scenery until Chi Jiahan called.

“You’re back at the research institute, right?” 6R0Fjx

“…” Xu Ze struggled but had to say honestly, “Not yet. I took two more days off.”

“I can’t take this anymore…” Chi Jiahan snapped angrily on the other end of the phone, “Why didn’t you just let Lu Heyang lock you up in the base for the rest of your life.”

“No, we went out.”

“Where?” Jpail

Given that this was Lu Qingmo and Han Jian’s hideaway, Xu Ze decided to keep it a secret. He said, “Somewhere a bit far.”

“…Whatever. Anyway, it’s not like you’re the kind of fool who would get sold by Lu Heyang and still help him count money.”

Chrysanthemum Garden.

It sounded like a compliment. Before Xu Ze could be surprised, Chi Jiahan continued, “You’re the kind of idiot who would be sold by Lu Heyang and worried that the price wasn’t high enough for him to make a profit!”

“How could that be?” Xu Ze said. 2S9YjH

“You’ll see.” Chi Jiahan laughed without saying anything else, then added, “Have fun.”

After hanging up, Xu Ze tried to explain clumsily before Lu Heyang could ask anything but ended up exposing himself, “It was Jiahan, wishing us to have fun.”

“Really?” Lu Heyang was on the verge of laughing as he glanced at Xu Ze at the side.

Xu Ze looked ahead and nodded, “Mn.” S6wUs7

The car continued uphill after leaving the coastal road and finally stopped in a parking lot. The afternoon sun was a little strong. Lu Heyang led Xu Ze to a shaded path. Since it was a weekday, there were hardly any people around. After walking for a few minutes, Xu Ze gently brushed the back of Lu Heyang’s hand and held it.

“Do you really think we’re having an affair, Dr. Xu?” Lu Heyang asked him.

“How could that be?” Xu Ze once again gave this lousy but versatile response.

As they walked, they passed viewing platforms of various sizes. However, Lu Heyang showed no intention of stopping. Xu Ze walked quietly beside him, content even with this. He was happy as long as he was with Lu Heyang. wf8UaC

“There are a total of 22 viewpoints on the mountain.” Lu Heyang finally led Xu Ze to a small fenced-in viewpoint covered with green vines, “This is the 17th viewpoint. It is said to have the best view.”

The constant sound of waves and rustling leaves surrounded them. Xu Ze looked against the wind and saw a beach, a lighthouse, and distant islands. The sun sparkled on the surface of the sea. The sea breeze seemed to have color, painting everything it touched with a light blue.

“Does looking at it make you feel better?” Lu Heyang asked.

“It does,” Xu Ze awkwardly continued, “It looks good, I’m happy.” MdtSxw

“Mn.” Lu Heyang handed him a navy blue velvet box.

It was the badge of honor. Xu Ze was stunned but took it. He had carefully observed the badge countless times before and had long since memorized its appearance, but now he still wanted to take another look.

When he opened the box, the sunlight shone through the branches and leaves, casting delicate shadows on the golden badge and the sparkling ring beside it.

Suddenly, Xu Ze remembered what Lu Heyang had said last night: That one is no longer precious enough. sXSEAf

“I’ve mentioned the idea of marriage to you before, but it seems that your brain automatically blocks out the word,” Lu Heyang said slowly, “Sometimes I wish you could think about us a little more.”

“If I hadn’t met you when I returned home last year, I would have gone on living my life with an eighteen-year gap in memories. Over time, I might not have cared or felt the pain.”

Read more BL at chrysanthemumgarden (dot) com

“Every time I saw you, I felt curiosity and regret, knowing that you’re a special person but not being able to remember. I constantly realized what I would lose if I gave up those memories, so I finally decided to get treatment.”

Xu Ze felt like an old machine, exerting considerable effort to take in and comprehend Lu Heyang’s speech word by word—he was explicitly being told: You are the most crucial turning point for me in regaining my memories. M9bHrn

“The last time I went to the western war zone to find you, I suddenly realized on the way that you must have experienced all the worries and prayers countless times over the past few years, but unfortunately I had no idea.”

“I don’t want to have that kind of regret again. Too much time has already been missed.”

Lu Heyang picked up the ring next to the badge. The ring was made by melting down the first medal he received after flying a combat mission during his university years. The diamond was specially acquired by Lin Yumian at an auction, an exceedingly rare deep gray-blue diamond that resembled a lake, the sea, and Xu Ze’s eyes.

Compared to the showers in the swimming pool of the Preparatory School at the age of eighteen, those adolescent years were constrained by various factors, now was finally the most appropriate time and place—not a second should be delayed. nWczjO

The dazzling brilliance of the diamond was reflected in Xu Ze’s eyes. Lu Heyang looked at him and asked, “Xu Ze, have you ever thought about marrying me?”

Even though there had been sufficient foreshadowing, Xu Ze still couldn’t bear this question. His expression looked like he was about to flee the next second—Lu Heyang said, “Don’t run away. Give me an answer first, whether it’s yes or no.”

It was such a serious matter that Xu Ze still had to consider practical issues. He partly regained his senses, his voice becoming very soft due to the chaotic thoughts, “The military… will they approve a marriage between two alphas?”

“I’ve already submitted the application. The military’s approval process is slow, so we’ll have to wait,” Lu Heyang took out his phone to find a number from the contacts and then handed the phone to Xu Ze, “If you don’t agree to get married, call this number now and cancel the application.” PqbnGQ

Xu Ze stared at the phone screen for a few seconds, then reached out and pressed the lock screen button.

Then he organized his words as clearly as possible, “I… I had planned that after completing this project at the research institute, I would apply to return to the 195th hospital. It would take another six months or so.”

“The graduate student apartment is too small. I’ll have to rent a bigger house… closer to the air base. And then, I’ll buy a car so I can pick you up.”

Originally, he could have saved enough for a down payment on a house, but all the years of savings had been used to repay the 2.4 million he owed to Lu Heyang. Xu Ze’s current savings were only enough to buy an ordinary car. xZsgEW

“I haven’t even bought a ring.” Xu Ze felt a great deal of regret and frustration about this, “I’ll have to wait until we meet next time to give you one.”

Lu Heyang smiled and reminded him, “You haven’t given me the answer yet.”

There was no hesitation this time. Xu Ze looked into Lu Heyang’s eyes and said, “Yes.”

Once upon a time, fate had mocked him, and he had become the one left behind. In the past, Xu Ze’s greatest wish was simply to see Lu Heyang again, not daring to imagine that the gaze from eight years ago would once again fall on him. 27cYiE

Time was like the sea, and Lu Heyang was the one who dived into the sea to retrieve him. All that was lost had been regained, and what he never thought he could have, he now had.

“Our Dr. Xu has made great progress compared to before,” Lu Heyang smiled faintly as he took Xu Ze’s hand and placed the ring on his finger.

Chrysanthemum Garden.

The ring circled his slender finger. Xu Ze was so dazzled that he began to space out again. He vaguely heard Lu Heyang say, “No need to buy me a ring. I want the one you gave me in high school.”

Xu Ze developed a ring addiction. gtIm8D

When he walked, he had to look at the ring; when he sat in the front passenger seat, he had to look at the ring; when he answered a call from a colleague, he had to look at the ring. He couldn’t take his eyes off the ring for even a second.

As he kept looking, he became worried and couldn’t help but ask an anticlimactic question, “The ring, is it expensive?”

Lu Heyang deleted three zeros from the diamond’s transaction price with a straight face, “It’s not expensive, a few tens of thousands.”

“That’s still a bit expensive.” Xu Ze, deceived by the fake price, was still concerned, “What if I lose it by accident?” aM4FIO

“Buy another one.”

Impossible. Xu Ze secretly decided to lock the ring and the badge together in the safe and not wear it unless necessary.

As the car returned to the town, Xu Ze looked out the window, “Can we go to the dessert shop we passed this morning?”

Lu Heyang asked while knowing the answer, “What do you want to buy?” HYAJQW

“Donuts,” Xu Ze said, “Tata… likes to eat them.”

There were eight flavors of doughnuts. Xu Ze found it hard to choose. He asked Lu Heyang, “Should we buy them all?”

Since the cream would be scraped off anyway, any flavor would do. Lu Heyang was about to suggest picking one or two when Xu Ze said, “Three of each.”

“That’s 24.” Surprisingly Xu Ze was as extravagant as Gu Yunchi in this regard, Lu Heyang calmly asked, “What one-year-old kid can eat 24 donuts?” 9tFfHW

In the end, Xu Ze settled on buying only four doughnuts.

Back at Lu Qingmo’s house, Xu Ze touched the ring and hesitated whether to take it off before entering the house—only hesitating for a short time. Xu Ze decided not to take it off. However, Lu Heyang noticed his movements and asked, “Are you having second thoughts about the marriage so soon?”

Xu Ze couldn’t stand such talk and immediately denied it seriously, “No, it’s not like that.”

Lu Heyang also put on a serious expression, “Don’t let me down, Dr. Xu.” wUydjC

These words immediately made Xu Ze consider the feasibility and operability of welding the ring onto his finger.

Motivated by the four donuts, Tata ate a lot for dinner. After the meal, she chose the first donut she wanted to eat and then reached out to Xu Ze, “Uncle, Uncle, hug.”

Lu Qingmo judged, “Little flatterer.”

“Look at stars, look at stars.” Tata pointed out the door. IytXRT

“Let’s sit on the balcony upstairs,” Lin Yumian said.

Xu Ze had to carry Tata as Lin Yumian was still recovering from the operation, and Lu Qingmo had to send Han Jian to school for evening classes. Which meant Lu Heyang was left alone to clear the table. Xu Ze held Tata and turned around to find Lu Heyang looking at him and mouthing, “Go.”

Tata entered her blissful world, lying in Xu Ze’s arms, looking at the stars, and enjoying a plain doughnut with no cream. Lin Yumian fetched a glass of water for Xu Ze, “Actually, we should have gone to the capital to meet you for a meal. It’s too time-consuming for you to come all the way here. But Yunchuan and the others can’t easily go back.”

“It’s okay,” Xu Ze said, “This place is nice.” OiDXWn

Lin Yumian smiled, “I always wanted to apologize to Heyang. Later, I realized that I should apologize to you as well.”

Xu Ze was stunned.

“When Heyang made the decisions in high school, I didn’t quite understand but didn’t ask. I always felt he could handle it himself and do it right. So I didn’t know that he had included you in his life plan so early.” Lin Yumian looked at Xu Ze, “If I had known you back then, maybe you and Heyang wouldn’t have wasted so much time.”

It seemed like the innocent were always the ones to get hurt, and those who did nothing wrong were the ones to admit guilt. Xu Ze didn’t know what to say, “Uncle.” cjdzEb

“Heyang will worry again when he hears me say these things to you.” Lin Yumian stood up and gently hugged Xu Ze, stroking his hair, “I’m happy to have you as part of the family.”

Xu Ze blinked, it had been ages since an elder had hugged him so gently.

“Uncle.” Tata mimicked Lin Yumen’s actions and hugged Xu Ze gently, accidentally getting breadcrumbs on Xu Ze’s shirt.

After Lu Qingmo returned, they all sat on the balcony for ten minutes. When it was Tata’s bedtime, Lu Heyang and Xu Ze also returned to their room. S5KUsW

Lu Heyang closed the bedroom door and turned around to find Xu Ze standing motionless in front of him.

Only the sound of breathing remained as they silently watched each other. Lu Heyang’s eyes swept from Xu Ze’s eyes to his lips. He said, “Dr. Xu, may I?”

Xu Ze leaned forward and kissed the corner of Lu Heyang’s mouth. Lu Heyang’s hand rested on his lower back and he tilted his head to meet his lips for a kiss.

With a thin layer of sweat on his back, Xu Ze gasped for breath and asked Lu Heyang’s opinion, “Can I insist today?” skOpwI

“What do you want?”

“Take a shower, together.”

Chrysanthemum Garden.

Lu Heyang didn’t answer but picked up Xu Ze’s legs and carried him to the bathroom.

i6sf3V

A month had passed since they went to Lu Qingmo’s house. The next day, Xu Ze and Lu Heyang had gone to the airport after lunch, one flying to S City, the other returning to the capital.

Since Xu Ze unexpectedly had a free weekend, he flew back to the capital. He cleaned his house in the old town and aired out the blanket. He ate a bowl of noodles near the neighborhood for lunch and then waited for Lu Heyang to come over.

When he received Lu Heyang’s message that he was almost there, Xu Ze immediately stood by the window and looked down—of course, he wasn’t that fast, and the area below remained empty.

After waiting a few more minutes, a military vehicle pulled up and parked under the trees. Lu Heyang looked up as soon as he got out of the car. Xu Ze leaned over the windowsill and waved to him. When Lu Heyang entered the stairwell, Xu Ze went to the living room. He opened the door in advance and stood at the entrance. ybBeSw

The footsteps gradually became clearer. Xu Ze stared at the staircase intently. When Lu Heyang appeared, he couldn’t help but smile.

Upon learning that Lu Heyang was coming, the time he spent waiting was filled with the same restlessness, preoccupation, and fluttering sensation in his chest, brimming with anticipation, excitement, and nervousness that he had felt in the past.

Since they hadn’t seen each other for a month, Xu Ze wanted to say something, but as soon as Lu Heyang walked in, he grabbed Xu Ze’s left cheek and leaned in for a kiss, closing the door with his other hand.

Lu Heyang could close his eyes and recall the way Xu Ze waited for him by the door. It was the same whether it was now or back in high school. At first, he didn’t understand the strange emotions that surfaced in his mind when he saw Xu Ze like this. It wasn’t until that moment when he kissed Xu Ze that Lu Heyang finally realized what those emotions truly meant. 7synGz

The old fan was still working, gently blowing air toward the bed. Xu Ze lay on the bed covered in sweat and was about to fall asleep. Suddenly, he opened his eyes, and said in a hoarse voice, “I haven’t given you the ring yet.”

“You already gave it to me,” Lu Heyang said, raising his hand to reveal the crooked silver ring on his finger, “How could you forget it so quickly?”

It was hastily placed on Lu Heyang’s finger in a panic before his clothes were stripped off. Xu Ze explained, “Maybe since it was too rushed, I didn’t remember it right off.” 6auE1O

“It was a bit rushed,” Lu Heyang understandingly said.

Xu Ze felt that something was wrong but couldn’t put his finger on it. Lu Heyang pinched his earlobe, “Sleep.”

In the quiet afternoon, the only sounds in the old town were the chirping of birds and the wind blowing through the leaves. Xu Ze looked at the old desk, the billowing white curtains, and Lu Heyang’s face on the pillow—after taking everything in, he closed his eyes peacefully.

In a blur, it seemed like not much time had passed when Xu Ze woke up again. 5S6yKZ

He was still in the small room, but this time, there was no one beside him. Xu Ze turned his head to see Lu Heyang sitting in front of the desk, wearing a school uniform, with open textbooks behind him. The fan was on and rotating slowly, and the curtains were blown open by the wind. Xu Ze smelled the strong scent of gardenias.

He slowly sat up and looked at Lu Heyang, who was only a few steps away. Xu Ze felt a strange sense of longing as if they hadn’t met for a very long time.

Indeed, it had been a long time.

The sound of cicadas outside ceased. Xu Ze’s lips curled up in a smile, but at the same time, despite the obviously beautiful scene, tears welled up in his eyes. sx0VXU

Xu Ze saw Lu Heyang smiling at him through his blurry vision. With a gentle tone, Lu Heyang asked, “What’s wrong?”

After a long while, Xu Ze whispered, “I had a long dream.”

Finished! This novel was difficult to write because I was too busy to find time, but it was also gratifying because of the companionship and friendly encouragement I received. Thank you all.

I’m sorry that I may really not have time to write extras, but I should post some short extras or jokes on Weibo during the New Year or other holidays…

As for the new novel, pre-saves are now open but updates won’t be that quick as I’ll store drafts first. If you’re interested, feel free to bookmark it. It’s Gu Yunchi’s story, with a completely different style and character design than this novel, so approach with caution…

Thank you all again, and see you soon. 6d x5f

Translator’s note:

Aaahhh! It’s over! 😭

I am absolutely blown away by the incredible support and kind comments from all of you, it really kept me motivated. A huge thank you to every one of you for reading! It’s really been a journey.

Stay tuned for the extras. There are a few holiday extras and a short story about He Wei and Chi Jiahan. UgQvnq

Also, I’ve already started translating Gu Yunchi’s story. So you’re in luck if you’re not ready to say goodbye to the characters! It’s about our croissant-loving little cutie Wen Ran and his grumpy boyfriend. You can find it here: Imprisoned in Eternal Night.

Once again thank you for reading! Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did~ ❤️

About the ending

My interpretation of the ending: Xu Ze wakes up following the sentence “The sound of cicadas outside ceased”. Earlier in the story, it was mentioned that Xu Ze used to dream about Lu Heyang when he was at the old house, but it had been a while since he last had such dreams. For the past seven years, whenever he did dream of Lu Heyang, he would see the version of him from high school. However, this time, Lu Heyang appeared different, smiling and looking at Xu Ze with the familiar gaze he had longed for. The perfect ending between them in the present moment feels like a dream.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the ending! rHSVXO

Also, dream LHY is now the LHY who smiles at him with the familiarity that they both have from high school until the present instead of what real Xu Ze usually dreams about (LHY that’s stuck just as a memory while also being a realization of his longing for LHY, which is just sad), and now whether dream or reality, Xu Ze and Lu Heyang are always going to be together and happy 😭
