Yao Zhihao sat outside on the balcony with a cigarette between his lips. He let it rest there as he scrolled through his phone, trying to fight back his annoyance with Shao Yuhan.
Shao Yuhan did not come home last night; he did not even answer any calls or texts Yao Zhihao sent. Yao Zhihao could have tracked him down. But three years ago, he decided to stop doing that.
Asshole: Open the door; I am here.
Yao Zhihao sighed after he read the message that popped up. He ran his hand through his hair before taking the cigarette out of his mouth. He threw it on the ground, putting it out with his slide.
Yao Zhihao: No. Why are you here? I told you not to come back.
Asshole: Is that the way to treat your future-in-law?
Yao Zhihao: Fuck off. I am not in the mood to play with you.
Asshole: You hide your spare key in the plant outside your door, right? Give me a second.
Cursing, Yao Zhihao quickly stood up, closing the balcony door behind him as he tried rushing to the front door. But it was too late when the door opened, and a person walked inside.
The person had androgynous looks. Their dyed grey hair rested in a messy bun as they wore a long dress with a slit on the left side; a short jacket covered the top part of the dress.
Cat eyeliner covered their eyes, emphasizing their hazel-colored eyes. They had on nude colored lipstick, and when they smiled, their dimples began to show. The person picked up their hand, tucking a hair strand behind their ear.
Yao Zhihao noticed the pink bracelet on the person’s wrist, “Female, today?”
“I thought my outfit made it obvious.” The woman smiled as she took off her platform shoes before stepping on the carpet.

Laughing, Xian Bo poked the bottom of Yao Zhihao’s slide, “Well, it is your fault it happened. That possessiveness of yours will cause everyone to leave. I am surprised that Shao Yuhan is still here.”
This time, a growl slipped from Yao Zhihao’s mouth. “If you want to stay here, I advise you to shut up.”
“Is that a way to speak to a lady?” Xian Bo fake gasped.
Yao Zhihao rolled his eyes, not answering that question. Instead, he asked, “Now, tell me the real reason you are here.”
Xian Bo sighed, leaning on the couch’s arm, “My parents are forcing me to go to that fake woman, Li Hua’s, event. And since you already know that woman, you should come with me and be my plus one.”
“One, your parents would not allow a male to be your plus one, and two, ask your lover, not me.”
“If I show up, my parents are fine with it, and your brother doesn’t want to go, so who am I to force him?” Xian Bo refuted.
Yao Zhihao rubbed his temple, sitting up on the couch since his “relaxation” time flew out the window. “Xian Bo, I don’t want to go.” He spoke slowly, emphasizing his words more.
Xian Bo moved closer until she was on his lap; she wrapped her arms around his neck and leaned closer with a pout. “Please, Yao Zhihao, I promise to make it up to you.”
Letting out a deep inhale, Yao Zhihao wanted to bang his head on a wall. He knew that if he kept saying no, Xian Bo wouldn’t leave him alone until he said yes. “Fine.” He answered through gritted teeth.
Broadly smiling, making her dimples more prominent, Xian Bo cheered, “Thank you, thank you! You are the best, Yao Zhihao.”
Then she kissed him. Yao Zhihao allowed it, but he did not kiss back. Xian Bo has always been this way; she loves kissing to show her affection towards people.
The front door opened as Shao Yuhan walked inside. He took off his shoes, yawning as he walked further in, only to stop at the scene before him. Yao Zhihao was on the couch, kissing some woman in his lap.
“Uh, am I interrupting?” Shao Yuhan asked, his throat feeling dry.
Shit like this is the reason why he would never believe Yao Zhihao.
Yao Zhihao pushed Xian Bo off him, standing up as Xian Bo fell to the ground. “Ow.” Xian Bo said, rubbing her behind.
Turning around, Yao Zhihao took in Shao Yuhan’s appearance—who was still wearing the same clothes from yesterday and looked like he hadn’t slept. He crossed his arms, “Where have you been?”
“I am a grown man, father. I don’t need to tell you.” Shao Yuhan responded.
Xian Bo finally stood up, dusting herself off. She noticed Yao Zhihao looking pissed off, so she tugged his arm, distracting him before a fight could happen. “I am leaving; walk me out.”
Yao Zhihao looked at Xian Bo, not wanting to and getting ready to tell her to walk herself out when he heard a scoff. Shao Yuhan rolled his eyes before walking off.
Uncrossing his arms, Yao Zhihao let Shao Yuhan walk-off for now. “Come on then.”
He walked to the front door with Xian Bo walking behind him. Xian Bo put on her shoes as Yao Zhihao opened the door. He stuck out his head, opening it, “Give me my spare key back.”
Xian Bo pulled out the spare key from thin air, holding onto it, “Don’t start a fight with Shao Yuhan. You keep losing people this way.”
“Don’t tell me how to live my life, Xian Bo. I don’t want to hear it. Now, key.”
Xian Bo clicked her tongue, “Fine, whatever.” She handed the key over, “I will see you in two days. I will be wearing a dark blue suit, so make sure to match with me.”
She walked out. Yao Zhihao closed and locked the door behind her. He threw the key on the shelf bolted in the wall near the door before walking to his bedroom.
When he entered, he leaned against the door as he watched Shao Yuhan prepare to take a shower. “Where were you? You didn’t answer any of my calls or messages.”
Shao Yuhan clicked his tongue in annoyance, “I told you, I am a grown man, and I don’t have to tell you anything. Plus, my phone was dead.”
Biting back from yelling, Yao Zhihao could not stop his cruelty, “So what, you went out to spread your legs for anyone like the slut you are?”
Shao Yuhan quickly turned around in anger before laughing bitterly, “It is funny hearing that from someone who had another in their lap just a few seconds ago.”
“It was not like that. Xian Bo is always kissing people, no matter what. That is how she is.” Yao Zhihao responded.
Shao Yuhan hummed, not listening anymore as he walked to the bathroom. Yao Zhihao followed him, calling his name, but Shao Yuhan slammed the door in his face, locking it.
“Fuck!” Yao Zhihao spoke through gritted teeth before turning around and walking off. He made his way to the front door, grabbing his jacket as he left with a slam.
Hearing the front door slam, Shao Yuhan hit the back of his head on the bathroom door. “Shit.” He cursed, running his hand down his face. “I cannot deal with this anymore.”
Heads up before anyone gets confused, Xian Bo is genderfluid, so I use she/her, he/him, and sometimes they/them pronouns with them. Whichever pronoun you see me use with Xian Bo in certain chapters, is the gender they are feeling that day.
This will be a five or six-part chapter.
