The nanny hastily took out her cellphone: “I’m calling the doctor.”
Looking at Qin JiaHe who was in such discomfort that he was constantly grimacing, Mama Qin felt engulfed by heartache. The family doctor needed time to come over, so she said: “No need. You tell people to get the car ready. We’ll go directly to the hospital.”
On the first day of school, the morning self-study was very chaotic. Everyone took advantage of the fact that the teacher was not present yet to chat with each other cheerfully.
Seeing Wen ZhiChu, 2nd-to-last stepped forth to pat him on the shoulder: “Wen-son, did you miss daddy?”
Wen ZhiChu shook his head woodenly.
2nd-to-last: “No need to be shy.”
“I…I didn’t.”
“Just look at you, not admitting it.”
Before even waiting for Wen ZhiChu to reply, 2nd-to-last immediately jumped back into his seat.
[System: Why’s he so quick?]
“He might have hit ‘teleport back to the city‘.”
[……]
The homeroom teacher walked into the classroom. The originally rambunctious atmosphere instantly quieted down. He stood in front of the podium and inspected the room: “Students, we have advanced into year 3. You’re no longer little kids. Year 3 is an important period of a person’s life. This teacher hopes you can seize every minute and every second of time……”
The homeroom teacher spoke passionately. After ending the speech, he also started to announce that today’s gym period was changed to the school opening ceremony: “When the time comes, you will enter the auditorium in an orderly manner. Roughhousing is not permitted. If you’re caught doing that, points will be deducted from you directly.”
The homeroom teacher just finished speaking when a mechanical voice spoke up in Wen ZhiChu’s head. It could even be considered a seamless transition.
[System: Villain’s mission. Interrupt the protagonist while he speaks. The mission time limit: between 9:30 to 10:30. Completing the mission will reward 250 yuan. Villain’s score will increase 6%. Failing the mission will deduct 250 yuan.]
Wen ZhiChu asked somewhat confused: “Why is there a special time limit this time?”
[System: There’s a reason for its existence.]
Wen ZhiChu ohh’d: “You also don’t know.”
Skycat Genie: ……
After the 2nd class ended at 9:30am, the students had 15 minutes of free time before they needed to leave for the auditorium at 9:45am to participate in the school opening ceremony. Inside the auditorium, class 1 and class 11 were separated by a billion miles. Wen ZhiChu had basically no means of interrupting Qin JiaShu’s conversations.
While Wen ZhiChu felt completely baffled, Mu Qing arrived just in time to give him the answer.
“During the school opening ceremony, Qin JiaShu will give a speech on stage as the representative of Year 3 students.”
After hearing this, Wen ZhiChu felt as if he were struck by lightning on a sunny day. He was really not even provided the slightest means of survival.

It was as if his body concealed a huge blackhole right now, sucking him in boundlessly. The spirit was willing, but the body was weak; he was powerless. Right now, even the sound of a pen landing on the ground would seem clamorous to him.
Throat swallowing in dryness, Qin JiaShu panted heavily for air. It was even somewhat impossible to maintain the usual mask on his face.
For some unknown reason, he felt this class period was incomparably prolonged and slow. His sharp eyes stared at the hands of the clock on the wall. Originally he had thought plenty of time had passed; however, it was only 5 minutes later on the clock.
Finally enduring until the end of class, Qin JiaShu got up, wanting to buy a bottle of water. Before he even walked out of the classroom, he was suddenly stopped.
It was Meng Yan. In a while, she will speak on stage, representing the art students: “JiaShu, let’s compare our scripts first.”
Qin JiaShu stretched out a smile on the corners of his lips, eyes cold and indifferent: “There will be a dress rehearsal at 9:30am.”
Meng Yan nodded: “Okay.”
Saying this, she looked at him somewhat bashfully. This glance made her notice something strange.
“JiaShu, what’s wrong with your neck?”
Qin JiaShu didn’t understand: “What?”
Clearly, he didn’t notice.
Meng Yan took a step forward: “Something seems to be popping up there.”
Meng Yan’s voice wasn’t quiet. For a second, she attracted plenty of people’s curiosity. Gazes shot over from the classmates within the class. Qin JiaShu stood next to his seat. The students closest to him walked over, wanting to take a look.
One of the male students walked forward. After looking, his expression suddenly changed: “Oh fuck! Isn’t this chickenpox?!”
A landmine out of nowhere. The people, who were originally crowding Qin JiaShu, immediately turned pale in fright and moved away quickly.
Some people were in such a panic, they directly knocked over a chair. The deafening sound of discussion instantly erupted in all directions.
“Qin JiaShu has chicken pox!”
“Isn’t chicken pox contagious?”
“Fuck, why did he even come to school with chicken pox?!”
“I never got it as a kid, will I get infected?”
“Did he not realize?”
The seats beside him were in disarray. The once popular figure has now become the target of public criticism.
A crack finally appeared in Qin JiaShu’s usually smiling mask. His impenetrable and perfect appearance was shattered into nothing at this moment.
He could even see the rejection appearing in other people’s eyes. This was the kind of gaze he was afraid of the most as a kid. He huffed roughly, like a restrained wild animal. He forced himself to calm down, however, his body was burning to the point of scalding. His head, which usually thought clearly and coherently, couldn’t transmit any commands.
Alienated by everyone, a sense of helplessness swept across his entire body. He was even incapable of saying a single word, and has never thought he’d be reduced to this state one day.
With a cracked corner, a priceless jade becomes defective.
A student went to report this. Class 1’s homeroom teacher rushed over swiftly after learning this and hastily brought Qin JiaShu to the school infirmary.
The discussion thread hung high on the top of the school forum. Pretty soon, the news of Qin JiaShu having chickenpox spread throughout the school.
During the 2nd class period, plenty of students were glancing at their phones secretly with their heads lowered. Wen ZhiChu already heard quite a bit of noise from all over.
He didn’t know what the students playing on their phones during class saw. For a second, Wen ZhiChu felt like a groundhog jumping up and down in the field, not knowing where the melon was.
It wasn’t until he heard the discussion after class that he finally learned that Qin JiaShu got the chickenpox, and that the guy was in the infirmary right now.
Wen ZhiChu was shocked: “Shouldn’t he have the protagonist halo?”
[System: Perhaps the author is his stepmom.]
“……”
Qin JiaShu was brought to the school infirmary. Then he accepted the medical-grade mask and put it on his face. The school doctor couldn’t do anything about chickenpox, so he had the other make a phone call to his parents.
The homeroom teacher called the phone number for Qin JiaShu’s parents, but no one answered. The school doctor and homeroom teacher stood outside. Qin JiaShu stayed in the school infirmary alone.
Clearly, they were only separated by a single door, but it felt as if he were cut off from the rest of the world.
Chickenpox was a contagious disease after all so the homeroom teacher needed to report it to the authorities. Class 1’s students were also temporarily held back from going to the auditorium. Communicating with Qin Jiashu through the door, he left the phone with Qin JiaShu and told him to contact his parents before hastily leaving.
The school doctor never had chickenpox before so they remained standing guard outside the door. Inside was only Qin JiaShu by himself. A little while later, the school doctor was called away to sign something, so they let Qin JiaShu know and left for a brief period of time.
For a second, Qin JiaShu’s world was terrifyingly quiet. Looking at the calls that went unanswered on the call history, Qin JiaShu’s eyes were even darker and heavier than before. Restless and weak, he felt a genuine loathing towards everything that happened.
The sounds of discussion lingered in his ears, those alarmed and frightened faces staring at him— the disgusted gazes, which seemed to leave a lasting, iron-brand with just one glance.
The pitch-back shadow from his memories appeared once again and opened its ferocious mouth sardonically: “Didn’t this teacher say this before? If JiaShu is not brilliant, no one will like you.”
“If you continue to be like you are right now, this teacher won’t like you. Your father and mother won’t like you, and no one else will like a child like you either.”
Bang—
A soft striking sound was suddenly heard impromptu, which pulled Qin JiaShu abruptly from his memories. Looking over in search of the sound, he saw a figure through the window of the door.
Qin JiaShu walked over. As soon as he walked to the doorway, a fluffy head popped out abruptly.
Qin JiaShu’s eyes constricted, a hint of surprise concealed within his originally dull eyes.
[System: What are you doing? Popping your head out like a ghost?]
Wen ZhiChu: …….
The mission had a time limit. Qin JiaShu couldn’t give the speech. The body of the original host had chicken pox in his youth and had immunity; therefore, Wen ZhiChu seized the 15 minutes of free time after 2nd class to come find the protagonist.
Qin JiaShu’s usually handsome face was currently covered by a mask. On his neck, plenty of pustules had appeared, which even looked extremely uncomfortable.
Wen ZhiChu wanted to open the door and enter. The door merely opened a crack before it was closed violently.
Qin JiaShu has reached the limits of his patience with his current circumstances: “Are you crazy?!”
Wen ZhiChu looked at him with a pair of clear, limpid eyes: “I came…… to see you.”
Qin JiaShu frowned: “Leave.”
Wen ZhiChu glanced at him, pressed his lips together, and shook his head.
“I have chicken pox.”
“I…know.”
Qin JiaShu was taken aback.
Wen ZhiChu could clearly hear a sense of helplessness from the other’s voice, as if he had sunk into a deep quagmire that was dragging him down endlessly. At this moment, Qin JiaShu didn’t seem like his usual to Wen ZhiChu.
The other normally did things calmly and methodically. However, when Qin JiaShu closed the door just now, Wen ZhiChu could clearly see the panic in the other’s eyes. He lacked the viciousness that he treated Wen ZhiChu with in the past, so for a moment, Wen ZhiChu didn’t feel as afraid of the other as he was normally.
At this moment, Qin JiaShu was completely different than usual, as if the loftiness that he exuded regularly was suppressed.
“Are…are you okay?”
Wen ZhiChu’s voice floated over through the door crack, soft and airy. Qin JiaShu, however, didn’t know how to answer him.
“You…you must be feeling terrible right? I saw that even your eyes were red.”
The other’s concern struck Qin JiaShu straight on the heart. Qin JiaShu unconsciously clenched the hand he rested on the door handle as he stared unblinkingly at the person outside the door.
He has always maintained a perfect image, never expecting someone to like him genuinely, and even to a certain degree, rejected his true self deep down inside.
He has never given Wen ZhiChu that perfect image, yet the other continued to persistently appear in front of him, despite being being pushed away by him again and again.
As if he didn’t know torment, didn’t know fear.
Qin JiaShu’s gaze was a bit overly intense. For a moment, Wen ZhiChu felt somewhat unnatural; however, he still did his best to talk to the person inside. Sick people usually, more or less, feel some anxiety. Seeing Qin JiaShu look terrible yet trying to endure it, Wen ZhiChu completely forgot the mission for a moment. After all, he had been the other guy’s dad for a day.
Even though Qin JiaShu’s excellence often made people ignore everything else, the other was still only 18 years old.
Wen ZhiChu imitated his parents’ tone when he was sick in his childhood.
“You mustn’t scratch the chicken pox on your…your body, understand? If they break, they will…they will become infected, and leave a scar. If they leave…leave a scar, actually, I wouldn’t mind that, but… but it won’t look good.”
“Are you feeling uncomfortable? Do you want… want to eat something? I still have… have a steamed bun in my pocket. If you don’t mind……”
He spoke with effort, stammering along the way. Saying a whole bunch, his face flushed red, out of breath, but he still did his best to enunciate each word. Looking at Qin JiaShu with a pair of eyes looking in extreme concern, before Wen ZhiChu finished speaking, he really did take out a steamed bun from his pocket, which was wrapped in a plastic bag.
“Do you want to eat it? It’s meat…meat filling.”
When saying this, Wen ZhiChu seemed to be talking about something extremely precious. His eyes were so bright that it was hard to look away from him.
Is chicken pox not common in china? Where I live, it’s normal for kids to get chicken pox, it’s even encouraged since getting it as a child is harmless but can be dangerous as an adult. I’ve seen parents will host chicken pox parties if one kid gets infected (basically everyone gathers their children around the sick one so they also get sick).
This might’ve been the biggest culture shock I’ve gotten from a cnovel haha.
Thanks for the chapter btw!
Kids are not vaccinated for it in China so it’s treated as any other contagious disease.
What??? Wow, that is shocking to me though. Kids that get sick with chickenpox will get isolated at home from where I am from. I never got chickenpox because of it.
And I don’t know anyone from my country who hadn’t had chicken pox as a child. Reading these comments made me shocked because I didn’t even know there was a vaccine for chicken pox??
chicken pox parties… seems crazy wow. In our country, children are usually not vaccinated for it unless they got it from someone else. I’m not sure about right now but in my days, vaccines were kind of expensive and not really believed upon since people trust traditional herbs more. Parents will try to keep the children at home so it won’t spread but it would more or less do so everyone will get sick and then immune after anyways. Now an adult, it’s usually super rare to meet people who haven’t experienced chickenpox themselves, so your chicken pox story was kind of an eye opener for me lol.
The same in my country, but I think they stopped doing ‘parties’ now as doctors says they can be dangerous 🤔 Everybody get chicken pox or rubella as a kid here(or both), so sometimes one has to be careful when they only have one (like me, I only had rubella). But I agree, reading can give big cultural-shock 😆
WHAT!?! That’s so crazy, I only know my best friend got chicken pox but not me.. I’ve never got chicken pox or any flu in my childhood (actually don’t know if I did or didn’t cus I don’t remember but.. prolly not) or even until now (good thing tho)
I just remembered that I still haven’t had chickenpox and I’m already 22 😭😭
Thank you for the update ❤️💯
Smallpox was erradicated in the 1970’s, so pretty sure Wen Zhochu must have caught chickenpox instead
On another note though, why is no-one vaccinated for chickenpox in this story?
in my country it’s common to go through it as a kid; just don’t leave the house and you’ll gain natural immunity!
Oh that’s just a typo. It’s suppose to be chickenpox, not smallpox haha. Also kids in China are not vaccinated for chickenpox
Wen Zhichu: concern of a one-day dad
Qin Jiashu’s real dad: [cricket noises]
HOW IS A ONE DAY 18YO DAD BETTER THAN AN ADULT MAN HUHH????
I’ll kick his dad under a bus! (ノಥ益ಥ)ノ ┻━┻
Even the fact that his mother who decided to change for him makes absolutely 0 efforts to anything! ಠ_ʖಠ Who made them parents?
I highly doubt that his mother changed for him, given how less she interacts with her own son and forgets him as if he’s some npc.
And the only thing she could find to talk about with him is always his little brother. They don’t even realize that what they are doing could possibly tarnish the brothers’ relationship with each other.
Where I’m from everyone gets vaccinated for stuff like that in primary school…. I don’t know a single person in my generation who’s had chicken pox
Oh I only know one person and it’s my bestie 😭 but like any other person? None
Another chapter of Qin Jiashu’s parents’ bad parenting. 🫠 Also, who is that teacher? I just want to talk. ᕙ( ︡’︡益’︠)ง
Thanks for the update ❤️❤️❤️
poor qjs 😭😭😭😭😭 my sweet boy
hes the true little white cabbage 😭😭😭
Whos this evil teacher that Qin JaiShu has a flashback too? Just asking because I need to find them and enact my revenge!!!
Aw…I bet this will really move his heart. Altough first I would like to move the teacher in the flashback with a hit or two from a bat
Aww, i feel bad for Jiashu, he actually feels insecure deep down because of what he went through with his parents to the point that he feels like everything is crumbling because of the rejection he suddenly experienced from everyone due to him having chickenpox. Honestly, his parents suck. They didn’t even bother to check on their other son when the youngest had a chickepox. Ugh.
+1
Wen ZhiChu is so precious ☺️
Also was gonna comment on the overreaction at the chickenpox but seeing as people comment kids dont usually get vaccinated against it in China guess it make sense now 🤔
Thanks for the chapter!
Qin JiaShu being sick and thus alienated by everyone has forced him to relive his childhood trauma. He is all alone and his parents won’t even answer his calls, can’t even imagine how horrible that must feel. Wen ZhiChu is aware that just because Qin JiaShu is able to excel at everything does not mean that he can be left alone to deal with his illness as he is still only 18 years old. Glad that our little cutie Wen ZhiChu brought some warmth to the cold situation Qin JiaShu is currently facing.
Haha omg it’s just chicken pox
Qin JiaShu might as well become Wen ZhiChu’s son for a lifetime, he’s parents are basically useless anyway. except for providing him money that Qin Jiashu can repay them when he got his own company and egg and sperm cels that they donated to charity. Guess that JiaShu has that one nanny who abused him when his cell donors are away
tbh I wouldn’t be surprised.
poor qin jiashu omg 😭😭 i want to throw everyone in this story except wen zhichu under a bus right now 🥲
I feel so amazed at Qin mother who is losing her senses over her 2nd son but hasn’t bothered to check up on her 1st son. Even step mothers may not seem this bad.
At least you don’t have any hope for your stepmom so it doesn’t hurt that much…but here…
aww it’s really touching how WZC soothes QJS’ inner child
Chuchu is such a precious cinnamon bun~~ how is jiashu still not fallen for him yet? 🤨
wAAAAAA CLIFFHANGER *jumps
Thank you for the Chapter!!!
(How could China not have vaccines of chickenpox for kids??? ☹️😠)
I have questions after reading the comments! What childhood vaccines do children in China get? I read once that in America, from birth to 18, you will get 72 total.
I had chickenpox as a kid and I have a single scar from it right above my tummy
Nooo I actually caught up for once🥲 Thank you for the chapter tho!
Thank You for the new chapter ♡(ŐωŐ人)
I swear if this doesn’t make ML realize how precious MC is… Then I wonder what kind of precious act that could make ML feel cupid arrow stuck his heart??
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa this novel is sooooooo gooooooood!!!! I want moooooreee
THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH FOR THE HARDWORKS IN TRANSLATING THIS NOVEL TO THIS FAR!!!! 🙇🙇🙇🙇🙇🙇🙇🙇🙇🙇 FOREVER ETERNALLY GRATEFUL
I LOVE IT SOOOOO MUCH!!!
I didn’t know China didn’t include chickenpox as a childhood vaccine. It seems kind of weird, since even though it has a low mortality rate, chickenpox can reoccur in adults as shingles, and shingles can disable people.
I feel a little bad for Qin Jiashu for his rejection trauma… but I’m also like. Dude, you are literally a disease vector at the moment. That said, I imagine he feels bad because he can’t help his emotional reaction despite rationally understanding why people wouldn’t want to be around him at the moment, and not being able to control your emotions itself is very irritating.
Remember a kid who had it but no one behave like that. It was basically treat like a common flu, no one really care and the kid completed the day perfectly. At most it’s just a fever and rash
Awwww
Thank you for the chapter!
thanks for the chapter!
awh! everyone is so scared to be around but he’s still hanging around
