Unlike Cassiopeia, Rian maintained his outward persona flawlessly. He continued to smile and engage in conversation around the table. An fFw

Dinner soon finished, and it was time to dance. Under the courteous ushering of the palace butlers, the nobles drifted into the adjacent ballroom.

King Edric and Queen Mira took the opening dance. Then, the children were invited on next, led by Prince Rian and Prince Alexius. Prince Rian chose Lady Nicola Storm, the young daughter of Duke Storm. Prince Alexius choose Lady Cassiopeia Schauss, the young daughter of Duke Schauss.

Ren Xiyang wanted to die inside. He turned awkwardly to the closest girl. “Lady Adrienne, can you do me a favour?”

Adrienne gave a nod. oXfjpu

Ren Xiyang wasn’t uncoordinated, but because of his discomfort, his dancing became awkward. The moment the dance ended, he thanked Adrienne and headed over to the wall to stand in peace while the adult nobles joined in. In contrast, Rian chose another noble girl to dance with. Alexius also chose another noble girl.

The huge, decadent ballroom lit up by magical light and filled with swirling nobles was a visual fest for the eyes. Rian seemed to dance effortlessly. He smiled warmly, he gently held the hands of the young girls he danced with and he gave them an ice flower afterwards.

More than one noble parent of those girls had a little thought: Does Prince Rian like my daughter more than the other girls? Can my daughter catch Prince Rian’s eye? If she could…

Ren Xiyang wondered when he could escape and how impolite he should be. But before he could leave, Günter Blewitt and Tierri Mauveine came over.

They had seen Earl Rosewood without the princes hovering around! What a rare opportunity!

“Earl Rosewood, once I master nonverbal magic, I want you to show me direct magic manipulation!” Günter said. “Tell me how to become proficient with non-verbal spells!”

“I don’t know how to cast nonverbally,” Ren Xiyang said.

Günter looked scandalised. “You don’t?” rdsWm7

“I learnt direct-magic manipulation first.”

Günter looked even more scandalised. “Then why can’t I—”

“Because it’s more dangerous, and my situation was different.”

Günter pouted. om4OcC

“Earl Rosewood, I heard that you conducted a census, I think that’s a great idea,” Tierri said. “Do you have any information yet?”

“The relevant teams are still processing through it but I plan to release a report summarising the Rosewood fief’s demographics…”

As Rian danced, his gaze focused on the girl in front of him, and they would occasionally exchange small words. However, his peripheral vision caught sight of Günter and Tierri gathering around Ren Xiyang. For a brief moment, Rian’s eyes darkened.

Once the current dance concluded, Rian thanked his partner. Then he strolled over to a certain little group. “Earl Rosewood, Young Lord Blewitt, Young Lord Mauveine, what are you talking about?” KD52t7

Tierri subtly backed away from Prince Rian and Earl Rosewood.

“Wouldn’t you want to know,” Earl Rosewood said.

Chrysanthemum Garden.

Rian looked at Tierri.

“Earl Rosewood telling me about the Rosewood census, Your Highness,” Tierri quickly answered. YPIpD9

“Oh? Earl Rosewood, would you mind repeating what you said?”

“Rba ja jii, sbeg Llutcfrr…”

Tierri stood, quiet as a mouse, as Prince Rian and Earl Rosewood talked. There was a subtle feeling of pressure coming from Prince Rian, which felt off since Prince Rian was usually very genial and approachable. Meanwhile, Earl Rosewood’s answers and tone of voice could be considered impolite, especially when speaking to a member of the Imperial family.

Cassiopeia had danced with both princes that night—Alexius danced with her first!—but she had been too distracted to enjoy it. She had to rely on muscle memory to make it through those dances in an effortless manner.

Tomorrow’s meeting weighed on her mind. After she returned home after the ball, she anxiously prepared. WQ3iCd

The next morning was cold and windy.

Cassiopeia dressed in beautiful clothing and expensive jewellery like it was armour. Some of it was indeed armour—the magical jewellery was charmed with defensive spells.

At breakfast, she was hardly able to eat. Her head remained lowered as she picked at her food.

The Schauss family glanced at each other over Cassiopeia’s head, concern clear in their eyes. oLthJY

After breakfast, Cassiopeia made her last preparations before heading out to the Schauss carriage. Her father, Duke Schauss was waiting for her. He would accompany her to the Imperial Palace.

The footman opened the carriage door and helped them inside. Then, the carriage started to move. A small group of Schauss guards accompanied them on horseback.

Duke Schauss examined his anxious daughter, who was staring out of the window. He had complex feelings in his heart, and some annoyance too. If Prince Rian had a crush on her, then he would have invited her to afternoon tea. The excuse ‘learning about healing from another peer’ was so flimsy it was worse than a cobweb. Let alone fundamentals of healing, he knew that Prince Rian was communicating with the healers at the Capital Hospital about the development of new advanced healing techniques.

What was Prince Rian truly planning? What did he know? Was this meeting meant to be a warning or punishment? LTx7vP

“Cassiopeia, allow me to give you some words of caution.”

Cassiopeia looked at him weakly. “Yes, Father.”

“If Prince Rian and Earl Rosewood invite you to work on any initiative, tell them that you are interested and want more information, and then come home and tell me. If they insult you or the family, don’t rise to their bait.”

“Yes, Father.” O8nsdR

“I know they won’t hurt you. They know the consequences if they do,” Duke Schauss said, steel in his voice. “But it still pays to be careful.” He pulled out something from an inner pocket in his coat. “Here, take this.”

It was a necklace with pale pink gems.

“This is one of the strongest protective amulets I have. Wear this and be confident that you’ll be safe. If you’re attacked, the necklace will also alert me. I’ll come immediately, okay? So don’t be afraid.”

Cassiopeia gave a weak smile. “Thank you, Father.” lGuzkw

“Very good.” Duke Schauss helped Cassiopeia put on the necklace. “And after you come back, tell me what happened, understood?”

“Yes, Father.”

When they arrived at the Imperial Palace, Prince Rian and Earl Rosewood were standing at the front doors. The nobles politely greeted each other.

“Your Highness, I leave my daughter with you. I hope you have a fruitful learning session,” Duke Schauss said. euQE3j

Prince Rian smiled. “Thank you. And Lady Cassiopeia, thank you for your time today. Shall we head in?”

Cassiopeia breathed in and steeled herself. “Yes, Your Highness. Goodbye, Father, I’ll see you later.” She followed Prince Rian, with two Schauss guards accompanying her.

The group headed into Prince Rian’s quarters.

It was the first time Cassiopeia had been there—it was so huge and so opulent, many times more expensive and luxurious than her rooms. Prince Rian ushered her and Earl Rosewood into his study room and closed the door behind him. 8oxcUE

There were now only three of them in that study room. There were no servants, no guards.

Cassiopeia glanced at the door.

“The door isn’t locked, you can leave whenever you wish,” Prince Rian said. “Take a seat.”

Cassiopeia gave a proper smile in return and sat down on one of the sofas. ezU7av

Prince Rian wordlessly cast the sound-blocking spell and sat on the opposite sofa, while Earl Rosewood took an armchair to the side.

Cassiopeia clutched the notes about basic healing magic in her lap. “So, shall I begin with something easy?”

Please support our translators at chrysanthemumgarden (dot) com

Rian smiled at her, but it was cold.

Cassiopeia’s chest tightened. She glanced at deadpan ‘Ayden Rosewood’ and then back to the coldly smiling prince. “Yes, Your Highness?” 8 glwq

“Of course, we’re not here to talk about simple healing magic,” Rian said. “I know you sent those anonymous letters about Earl Rosewood.”

Cassiopeia sucked in a breath. “What letters? What are you talking about?”

Rian twirled his fingers. A stack of letters levitated over from his desk and landed on the coffee table between him and Cassiopeia. “You know what I’m talking about, but let me remind you.”

Cassiopeia felt cold as she stared down at the familiar words. 3IqfTL

“Oh, I’ve heard of this, these were the letters that many nobles were sent, weren’t they?” Cassiopeia said.

Rian’s eyes narrowed. He saw how her notes were crumpling slightly under her grip. The way her body shifted. The way her eyes darted to the side.

“This was much easier with Earl Rosewood,” he said with a snort. “I won’t force you to sign anything. I believe you won’t reveal what we will tell you next.”

Cassiopeia pressed her lips together. clg7qV

Rian’s icy blue eyes glinted. “We know that you know this is a novel. Cassiopeia Schauss, the future Saintess of Sedaveria, the kindhearted healer who did save, will save the people from the terrible plague-curse. Cassiopeia, so kindhearted, and yet you would send such hateful letters.” Rian’s lips stretched into a chilling smile. “I’ll give you some information for free. I have lived through the plague-curse once, before returning to this past. Earl Rosewood, meanwhile, transmigrated from another world. And what about you, Cassiopeia?”

What?!! Why was this happening to her? Why was she so unlucky?

Cassiopeia had thought Ayden Rosewood was a villain. Yet, the future crown prince was being even more terrible in front of her! She had suspected that ‘Ayden Rosewood’ knew about the novel, but Prince Rian knew too! And they had found out that she was the anon! How was that possible? Those letters were sent anonymously! If they didn’t like those letters, then it meant they had something to hide!!

Ren Xiyang’s eyes were lowered as he watched the exchange between Rian and Cassiopeia. Rian was unexpectedly cold. 4IEBao

Ren Xiyang said, “My previous world had cars and the internet and planes and zombies and novels like this world. Did yours?”

Cassiopeia’s head snapped towards him. “You!” Her papers scattered over the sofa seat next to her as her eyes turned red. “So you both know that you’re messing up the novel! You both know it and yet you’re doing it! Where’s Alyssa?! Alyssa should be here! There shouldn’t be chopsticks and tofu!”

“I heard that you baked, Cassiopeia. The original couldn’t,” Ren Xiyang said.

“That’s completely different from what you’ve done! You murdered Alyssa!” xKq6dD

Ren Xiyang inclined his head slightly. “In some ways, I did kill Alyssa.”

Cassiopeia’s eyes widen. “So, I was right! You can’t gaslight me!”

Chrysanthemum Garden.

“On the morning of the Rosewood murders, I transmigrated into Alyssa’s body. I took over this body, and I’ve made it mine.”

“What—what do you mean? You gained the memories of your past life—” 8ZJ5sw

“No. I’m a different person from Alyssa.” Ren Xiyang was already getting tired of everything. “I transmigrated into Alyssa’s body. I took over it. Roland Rosewood and Marie Rosewood only had two children, Silas and Alyssa. ‘Ayden’ was a fake name and identity I made up.”

“…You’re in Alyssa’s body…There is no Ayden Rosewood. What—that means you’re a girl! Why are you pretending to be a boy?”

Cassiopeia suddenly shivered as the temperature plummeted.

“I’m pretending to be a Rosewood. I’m not pretending to be a boy,” Ren Xiyang said. AFL3hI

Cassiopeia resisted rolling her eyes. “You’re Alyssa, aren’t you?”

If ‘Ayden’ was Alyssa, then there was still hope that the novel would go back on track—

“Tell me, what was your previous world like?” Ren Xiyang asked, dangerously calm. “Haven’t you heard about trans people?”

Cassiopeia pursed her lips. “You mean women who have been brainwashed by the patriarchy to be point that they would betray other women and pretend to be men to get male privileges? If you’re attracted to women, then you should call yourself a lesbian, you know, there’s nothing wrong with being gay.” Cassiopeia realised something. “Are you one of those fetishising fujoshi? That’s why you’re pretending to be a guy, right? Alyssa, you should take a good hard look at yourself.” 1wBK3s

Ren Xiyang closed his eyes, but he could still sense Cassiopeia’s infuriating existence. “You don’t support queer people them.”

“The q-word is a slur, if you’re LGBT, you’d know that,” Cassiopeia snorted. “I’m not homophobic. I support real gay people.”

Ren Xiyang exhaled. The temperature returned to normal. He looked at Rian. “Rian, tell her about the plague-curse.”

Rian’s impression of Cassiopeia had rapidly fallen, much deeper than anticipated. And thus, his smile became wider as his eyes became darker. “Lady Cassiopeia must know a lot about the future plague-curse that will spread across Sedaveria. Only you, the best healer in the land, could save my younger brother and the kingdom. However, many others died first. Ayden Rosewood and I have been working on various plans to prevent the plague-curse from occurring and to prepare the kingdom for any other plagues. We hope that you can help us in improving future outcomes.” ZIg Un

“What can I do? I’m not even a proper healer mage yet! I need years more study.”

Rian looked down on Cassiopeia. “Ayden has provided us with information about pathogens, introduced hand-washing and face masks and has plans to improve clean water access. I’ve prompted my Imperial Parents to start talks with the Angio court to improve diplomacy. Lady Cassiopeia, is there anything you can do to help prevent the plague-curse or protect and prepare against other diseases?”

“I’m only ten. And aren’t you only twelve? Wait, Alyssa is only ten as well…!”

Ren Xiyang gritted his teeth. “Weren’t you older in your past life? I was almost thirty.” yKrUP9

“I was twenty when I died the first time,” Rian said. He also lingered around in the world as a ghost for a few more years after that.

“I’m a minor,” Cassiopeia retorted. Her eyes widened as she realised. “So you’re both adults! But I’ve seen you talk to other kids…” She grasped her protective necklace as she looked at them in disgust and fear. “You’re trying to groom them? Are you paedophiles? This is not okay!

I wonder if anyone can guess the inspiration for Cassiopeia’s character ^_^

  1. I don’t remember novel/manga characters after a few months, but this girl sounds like every other ignorant teenager I’ve met/read. Including myself.

    • Are you saying she sounds very commonplace? The problem is that Cassiopeia does know some things….but she doesn’t realise what she doesn’t know…

      • That sounds like a teenager. Most of teenagers think they know everything, a master of what they know and what they do not know they make assumptions and think those assumptions are the universal truth. Mind you, not all of them is like this, but quite a lot are.

  2. And there it is, I had a feeling Cassiopeia was a minor. Everything she was doing just screamed pre-teen/teenager to me 😂

  3. I miss the murdering arsonist Shao Sijia — she would absolutely put Cotton Candy in a sack, drag her into an alleyway, beat her up and then pretend it was someone else and sow discord and dog blood drama. Or in other words that’s what I want to happen to Cotton Candy!!! She lacks to much common sense, it wouldn’t matter if we beat some more out of her!

Okay, I’ve calmed down. There doesn’t even need to be a magic contract for not talking about this, even if that Cotton brain told her father, he would treat her like an idiot, a dumb, naive child that doesn’t know anything.

And one round fan-girling over Adrienne: She is so cute, she was probably really shy and didn’t like dancing in front of so many people…

Thank you for the chapter! ^__^

  4. Oh gods, she’s a mini terf. 😬

Honestly, I was only skimming the chapter since I wanted to get the end of the confrontation, but as someone who’s also a gender minority, her ignorance hurts to read. I’m probably going to wait a few chapters.

  5. the only thing that i agree with cassiopeia is that fujoshis are gross, otherwise she can go fuck herself. Young age doesn’t excuse ignorant behavior, although teenagers are more impressionable. I hate to see children manipulated by closed-minded people to frown at the bare being of others

    • As a fellow ace, I’ve gotta say your profile picture was my mental image the first time I heard the term “thrist trap”. I’m vibing a lot rn. Thank you for that, it was needed after the sheer disgust CC inspired.

I admire Xiyang’s restraint in not setting something on fire. Man’s definitely got composure to spare.

    • Fujoshi: A woman who likes comics depicting male homosexual love

Fudanshi: A man who likes comics depicting male homosexual love (usually targeted to [a female audience])

Fujin: A more recent option for gender-neutral/non-binary fans of BL.

All the readers here (and the author!) are very likely fujoshi, fudanshi, or fujin 😆😆😆😆

Cassiopeia unfortunately still has a lot more to learn…

      • I’m sure some fujos are gross–the same way any group of people with some commonality will have jerks and so forth. But now that I know the original meaning/origin of fujoshi, it’s not bad at all to (re)claim~

        • Being a fujo is tightly connected with fetishization of mlm couples. I have used the term to describe myself, and that was during the time when I myself didn’t know better and also fetishized gay couples (I was introduced to lgbtq+ by internet books, I was impressionable, and saw a lot of people using that term and I copied their behavior). I haven’t seen anyone who doesn’t fetishize mlm couples use that term before, and I don’t see claiming that term as a possibility as it’s in wider use between the people who do fetishize mlm couples (the people who call themselves fujoshi don’t usually actually realize they are fetishizing or their problematic behavior though (I also only realized the deeply problematic behavior later)). For fujoshis the term was originally meant for girls who read yaoi, which is meant for girls’ consumption and a deeply fetishized genre in itself. Some people are gross in all communities, sure, but being a fujo is built upon fetishizing and therefore most of the consumers also (usually not recognizing their faulty behavior) fetishize it. Some is an understandment when we are talking about fujos.

Also I think the author is a smart person and wouldn’t fetishize mlm themself, but I just wanted to go over this topic a bit more

        • Okay, thanks for correcting me lol. I have no problem with people who use that term, I made a generalization based on what I have read and seen without actually doing that much research. I only have a problem with the people who fetishize mlm relationships. They don’t deserve to call themselves fujo anyway

  6. Damn it! And here I was hoping she’d be nice, also, she has no clue Ren Xiyang was transgender in his last life too, so why does she automatically assume he wasn’t biological male before his transmigration?

Like, girl, he was going to be transgender no matter what—

Also, talking to children doesn’t automatically make you a groomer, going by that logic, since your not the real Cassiopeia, and Cassiopeia’s dad is nice to you and gives you gifts, he’s grooming you?

      • It almost seems like she doesn’t understand that Ren Xiyang got REINCARNATED! AS! A! DIFFERENT! PERSON! hah

Also, Cassiopeia is excited to date Alexius in the future, even at the ball, she was happy he danced with her, he’s like 10, and she’s at least six to seven years older than him, isn’t that grooming too? Or is she one of the people who think women can’t be p*dophiles?

  7. Young and ignorant, that can change—but the cruel twist that may be imbedded deep. Makes me tired, too. Somehow I don’t think she’s going to be an ally. Thanks for the latest.

  8. As much as I love these types of stories, the one problem I tend to have is “This world is a novel!”

No it’s not, it’s a world. It’s not like all the side characters freeze into stasis when the main characters aren’t present, is it? You’re not bound by the novel dialogue or plot. (That could actually be a really interesting – if terrifying – take on transmigration actually…)

Therefore, the world is not a novel. It’s a world with real people, which has had a tiny, tiny, miniscule part of its history recreated in novel form in other worlds.

Maybe placed there by some trickster God who thinks forcefully transmigrating random people and then watching the fallout is hilarious? 🤔

Anyway, patiently waiting for Candyfloss to get put in her place. 😁

    • I think it’s already to believe, or think that the world is a novel–but also you need to act like it is a full world just in case, you know?

I have read bits of stories where the main character (who transmigrated/reincarnated in) is bound by novel dialogue or plot, their body would literally get out of their control if they deviate too much!)

But given how much the story has already deviated, the probability that it’s a free world increases ^_^

Candyfloss! Another name for Cassiopeia 🤣 Thanks for reading!

    • Tenshia – check out ‘Something is up with Background Character D’ on this site. It has exactly that premise. The world freezes when the main pair enters the room, etc. and our Mc is D.

  9. Don’t know why, I want to punch someone…

Even if you are young, you should learn to have your own opinion instead of repeating what other stupid people say.

  10. Cassiopeia…wtf. someone please get her transphobic/homophobic ass out if here or I’m gonna do it myself

Thank you for the chapter!! <3

  11. Argh! I almost bang my head against the table! (╬`益´) . Cassiopeia! What are you talking about! At this point each time you talk, my mental health is gonna take 15 damages! So ignorant! Thank everything that you are a minor in your last life because we gonna have a lot to talk if you’re an adult. Also by your logic, doesn’t that mean that you are also a pedo? Because you told those two noble kids to spread some rumours and tell some nasty things to their family about our ren ren! Argh! I’m petting my cat to release my anger!

  12. She reminds me of the meme about 14 years old white girls on twitter. But she also sounds like any typical teenager being ignorant about many things

  13. scratching, biting, grrrrrr

i remember first time reading i was like “oh gods, a mini TERF” alxbkahd;;;; part of me hopes she learns better but i know from being in this situation i would just leave- WAIT AKDHAKXHAJHS i remembered when i came out to a mutual (ex)friend and he asked if he could keep using my old pronouns cause it would be “easier” for him and my qpp raised the knife they were using to chop vegetables and was like “you use their pronouns or you leave. right now.” aaaahhhhh okie i feel better now (๑˃ᴗ˂)

  14. How old is she? If she’s 18-17 then it’s very ironic that she’s saying they’re grooming kids while being excited over getting a dance from a 10 year old.

  15. I know the comments are going “oh she’s young it’s normal” but I hate it so much. She’s very realistic. A lot of teenagers are racist, homophobic and transphobic. It’s sad how being those things “is part of growing up” while teenagers who are part of minorities groups suffer because of them. It’s so frustrating.

  16. After reading the comments I have to say that she is an absolutely unique character in a bl novel! Bravo!

  17. Wow , umm that was quiet a reaction. Well everyone reacts differently based on the situations.

She does seem pretty ignorant about her surroundings and the situation she is in if we consider the future where she will be facing a life threatening plague.

But oh well!!! Everything’s upto writter-nim.

Kinda like the perspective from which you wrote about her reactions.

Then again, thanks for the chapter 😊

  18. Cassiopeia is infuriating, almost at the level of my little brothers, a true teenager! It’s a miracle she’s not lazy and be at the bed and cellphone all the time, not helping in anything at the house and even-….. Inhale… Exhale…. I’m calm, I’m an adult, I’m having fun reading, I’m not gonna kill someone….

  19. I really disliked the heroine insert because I felt like she wasn’t treating the people around her as people, now, I’m really disgusted by her worldviews. Perhaps she was raised in a TERF household or something, but when exposed to an actual transgender person her reaction is so cruel, I’m really not sure there’s much hope for improvement.

Maybe she sounds like JK Rowling?THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR BEING AWESOME!!

  20. Oh god, Cassiopeia’s a TERF. She’s very well-written– REALLY reminds me of some conversations I’ve been stuck in.

      • I am very sad to say this author-sama but lately I have been having problems with chrysanthemum garden and it literally nearly scared me half to death, thank god it fixes itself after a while… at first it was the 404/400 (I can’t remember which one) error code and then just now it was a bug(?) error, I think it was with the whole website I’m not sure since it didn’t work when I opened chrysanthemum garden on another website or something is just wrong with my account, regardless I do hope no more errors happen often since I really enjoy this website! But maybe sometime in the future I won’t be able to use this website again or not be able to use the comments, if you do see me stop commenting in the future for a long time it might mean I haven’t been able to use my account on the website, so please just know that I will probably be reading your novel without an account on the website so I won’t be able to comment, I will travel this journey through to the end since I started it so remember this faithful reader will find a way to read this beautiful novel!
          • ah phew thank God I wasn’t the only person having problems (not that I am happy that you got problems too, I hope that your problems will be fixed soon too if it happens again, mine has stopped for a while) fr I was so scared author-sama that my heart skipped a beat, it am also glad to know that this marvelous novel is also be posted on another website! I was starting to think there was just something wrong with my account because I personally feel targeted and hated by technology with some of the other technology problems that is occurring on my devices, and its not like there is any other reading websites that works as well as chrysanthemumgarden so really I feel its natural to be scared 😅
  21. Rereading this, I’ve decided to read the comments, and I’m honestly shocked that people in reality actually behave like the cotton brain. I rarely realize so clearly that my little corner of the world is so different from the rest.

Like, just how bad are the parents to raise such people? So impolite, disrespectful and ignorant…

Hm, but I have to say, it is a well written depiction of said ignorance. Personally, I wouldn’t be able to write it; it makes me too angry and disgusted.
