According to the script’s timeline, Gu Liang would be letting Perennial Wang drink this bowl of soup, and once he was sleeping deeply, he would go and find Master Hui for a secret liaison.
Roughly a quarter of an hour later, Perennial Wang came back.

It can signify ‘not ageing’, ‘immortal’, ‘never dying’, and ‘lasting’ collectively – Chinese is fun like that; the characters are simple in construct, but combined, it can have a lot of nuances.
Additionally, his name is relation to the title of the script, notably the Long Lived part – ‘长生’ (pinyin: chang sheng) – forms the idiom ‘长生不老’ together, which means ‘living forever and never growing old’. In light of that fact, I made his name Perennial Wang, because I felt like the definition of ‘lasting or existing for a long or apparently infinite time; enduring or continually recurring; specifically engaged in a specified way of life’ fits best.

This is gonna go swimmingly as I am already very, very, almost hopelessly lost. Though! If Yang Ye is Perennial Wang as Gu Liang’s reaction implies— unless it’s someone else who’s decided to bet all or nothing on their acting — I seem to recall that it was mentioned the Deceased didn’t necessarily HAVE to die? Or am I just exhausted past the point of reason? Probably just exhausted. I did just overanalyze a disappearing red cord (that the system for some reason now decided to leave to him despite taking just about everything else? System, please explain yourself… is it because he can clearly use the scarf and every other tool and the introduction scenario was considerably more lenient about that kind of casual use or what? Did they just not fit into the scenario in this case, being based in a more historical/fantasy setting, while a red cord wouldn’t stand out too much and fit with the scene?)
