Translator's Note

关己则乱 – Guan ji ze luan, when a situation occurs and it relates to oneself, a person’s thoughts and actions might be irrational. In other words, an outsider can see things more clearly or objectively than those involved.

  1. Regarding the relative ages, it couldn’t have been at the time ZJ just arrived as a newborn, because it would be impossible for GQ to be coherent and remember anything at just a few months old. It’s likely when both of them were past the toddler stage and old enough to be left on their own (and with the other kids) that they met.

    Translation notes:

He wanted to dispatch some soldiers to handle those matters for Gu Zuo. –> He needed to split his efforts to properly handle those matters for GZ. (兵分*头 is an idiom)

you would call me big brother if I asked you to. –> maybe “older brother” would be better, otherwise kinda awkward to be reminded of how GZ calls GYTH.
