Despite Kai’s tendency to shift from cold to hot, and from grumpy to fun, he remained remarkably restrained when it came to Shen Yu. While others perceived Kai as the cold and mysterious ‘Hunter,’ Shen Yu observed a more humane side of him.
At least he believed so.
Understanding Kai wasn’t an easy feat, and Shen Yu, despite not being entirely accurate with his judgment of people, had a unique insight, that coexisted as instinct. Intuitively he grasped details far better when analysing others on an emotional scale.
In the eyes of many, Kai was erratic, but to Shen Yu, he revealed a more intricate and layered personality. He agreed it could be a deliberate staging just to keep Shen Yu entertained, however Shen Yu didn’t believe he was that blind when choosing friends.
Not everyone grasped Kai’s complexities since they didn’t know him too intimately, but Shen Yu, to some extent, understood him. The thought always brought a sense of pride in Shen Yu’s heart when it came to their special connection.
Not everyone had the privilege of capturing the attention of such a man.

They locked eyes briefly, then averted their gaze when their conversation ran dry.
It occurred to both that a moment of rest was necessary, they needed time to relax and recharge.
Shen Yu was convinced that Kai required occasional solitude to absorb information and plan ahead. Kai thrived on micromanaging every conceivable outcome, showcasing abilities that were far beyond the reach of their generation. This was precisely why numerous ‘influential’ individuals kept a watchful eye on his progress.

Surely he didn’t expect a trophy for his troubles? Shen Yu decided he would not respond to his incessant ‘chatter’, instead he focused on his space ring, and took out his elven dagger. Successfully ending their ‘banter’.

Yes Kai could talk however much he wanted to, but usually he would keep quiet when the both of them were concentrating on other things.
And precisely because of this, Shen Yu believed something else was in the mix.
“I am not nervous… Why would I be?” Shen Yu stated the truth. Though he felt hesitant about meeting and talking with others, finding it nerve-wracking, he wasn’t exactly dreading it.
After their playful tickle session, he was reminded that Kai was there to help him in case he got stuck in some trouble. He realized he didn’t need to worry about those who didn’t even know him; at most, they might mock his cultivation, but there was nothing more they could do. And he wasn’t exactly going to announce his cultivation path to the rest, so there was no need for fretting over it.
