Question: what does Semi Autistic even mean?…..
It’s more commonly referred to as ‘mild autism’.. but in relation to my character he has:
Problems with back-and-forth communication that may include difficulty with conversation, body language, eye contact, and/or facial expressions.Difficulty in developing and maintaining relationships.
Personally I feel you don’t really need to label it as semi-autistic. The problems you’ve described like difficulty in communication, reading body language, eye contact and maintaining relationships – even I have all these problems without being on the spectrum ~.~!
Good point, I perhaps felt like the tag would answer some questions for itself as readers went on. I think I just need the courage to leave it to the reader’s interpretation. I’ll remove it now, sorry if I have offended <3
It’s not offensive – maybe use a ‘neurodiverse’ tag as it seems to be the more popular term in current usage without being specific to autism – but I really do wish more authors would write characters with odd/difficult/eccentric personalities as normalized without always labelling it as some kind of mental issue or a result of past trauma. This often reduces interesting personality quirks to medical conditions to be treated, and gives the impression of a broken individual that needs fixing rather than a character that needs growth. 💙
I’m on the Autism spectrum (What used to be called Aspergers) and while not “offensive per se, it’s more misleading. Those tendencies aren’t exclusive to Autism so unless you plan on having the character to be on the spectrum its probably safest to leave it out. Also the term ‘mild autism’ while it sounds like it should exist, it really doesn’t. Everyone on the spectrum has their difficulties and it really depends on the individual. I’m kinda passionate about education so if you want to message me feel free to let me know. 🙂

I just saw this and wanted to add: Autism can be inherited from the parents, and there are mild forms of autism, you could also call them autistic tendencies. Depending on which doctor you ask, they will tell you that this is normal or that it is autism. It is quite similar to hyper sensitive people, which is the term for people who have very sensitive responses to stimuli. It might interest you. 🙂

I’ve read all 7 chapters of this novel at once & there is something quite fascinating about the writing style, a quiet measure to it, really enhanced by the fact it’s late at night here & quiet. I also find that omega father & child pair just as fascinating. Unusual birds, those 2, with so much intruding on their small, quiet world.
