      • I could be wrong, so feel free to correct me, but from my understanding it’s like this:

        A core disciple describes the rank of a disciple, like outer and inner sect disciple, only of higher status, while an apprentice is a direct disciple of an Elder.

        From what has been explained so far, outersect and innersect disciples are more or less left alone to muddle through on their own, with at most the possibility to learn together in larger “groups” (for example like the different groups of disciples gathered together), while the apprentices are taught by an elder. I’m guessing an Elder has a fixed amount of disciples to teach (maybe one on one or as a group). So if I were to guess from this point of my thoughts, I would suppose, Core disciples are like innersect disciples, but maybe with the opportunity to “take classes” from Elders? But I’m absolutely sure, those core disciples all have outstanding abilities or constitutions, making them geniusses..

        • Core disciples have more resources given to them than inner sect disciples. There was a list earlier when the Elder granted our ML the same privileges as a core disciple.

          True disciples are those who have officially registered and knelt to a master as their teacher, who is presumably a Sect Elder of some standing. They get private tutoring by their master.

          Also, they may or may not have to reach a certain level of power/levels… Like, for instance, not sure if Ling Ziwei immediately became a True Disciple or if she’s still a special Inner Sect disciple until she reaches Immortal stage or something.

          • Just rechecked… looks like it’s just Core Disciple that has the Immortal rank requirement. Doesn’t say anything about True Disciple so there probably isn’t, aside from most Elders probably won’t bother with really low ranked noobs except out of special circumstances.

            (Based on this, Xu Lingxiu is likely a True Disciple as well.)

This is one of those situations where if this had been a standard shounen xianxia with GYTH as the protag, this cold fire would be some kind of high risk (high pain) but high reward at the end tribulation. However, since this is a saccharine BL xianxia, obviously GZ will provide a better way to advance and thus this plot device isn’t needed. =P

    Translation notes:

    Ordinary Core Disciples and True Apprentices were incapable of seeing him. –> Even core disciples and true apprentices did not have the rights to see him.
