Going back a few hours, just when Fagun Mission went live, both MWBS and GS viewer feeds became lively again. Among all Golden Missions, Fagun went live first. And as with every Golden Mission, the viewership count was sky high.  

Mission worlds were an integral part of society, everyone, even those who never bothered with entertainment, watched avidly.  JFvHjA

Every planet had participants who were aspiring to complete a golden mission, and some planets already had a few who were participating in Fagun. It had always been a strange occurrence to see people disappearing into thin air, and there were several posts marked, ‘transmigrator gone to Fagun’. It was a rising trend to upload a picture of empty beds, benches, chairs, and post it with the missing person’s name. The more compromising the situation before disappearance, the more trended it was.

They were certainly not disappointed to see the curious scenery and Shen Yu’s beautiful elven form. Although Shen Yu couldn’t see the comments, the viewers still left their thoughts for others to read.

The chat had been discussing things rather calmly, because the first day of any mission world was never exciting, people just loved to look at strange new things and appreciate a transmigrator’s character. This casual talk went on until viewers started to notice Shen Yu’s strange behavior after spying on the elven gathering.   UPXw1q

MWBS transmissions had two modes of view, one was the [NORMAL MODE] and the other was the [ENERGY READER]. It was especially designed to cover energy discrepancies and energy flow, this helped gather data of all sorts, a very important tool for researchers. 

Some inquisitive viewers watched the live session on both energy reader mode and the normal mode, that’s when they also started to notice a peculiar happening. Language was a barrier and some details couldn’t be understood, but anyone with eyes could see that Shen Yu’s situation looked grim.

As much as Shen Yu believed he could escape, he was not sure whether he would be truly allowed an escape. The hidden mission had already bound him to this place, so he had to find a way out of it, without getting implemented for his actions… 

He couldn’t act a priest, nor a seer elected by the tree, he also couldn’t go anywhere near that tree or go against it. If the residents discovered him missing, they would surely know he escaped, which meant he hadn’t died. And if he stayed alive and well, surely, resurrection was still an urban fantasy? But how was he supposed to get their recognition when they knew he was dead… or did they not know it? 

Since he didn’t get properly sacrificed, the ritual wasn’t complete, the barrier may weaken again. He could take advantage of that and escape? 

Or could he stay here for a few more days if he hid in some secret woodland?  m5MOtL

Vinir was a newborn elf, and he was pretty useless and totally clueless. It made Shen Yu want to kill someone, probably that tree and this village. Because of them Vinir didn’t get to learn any real earth magic or spell casting, but Shen Yu could dig further and might find something… probably an inheritance? 

He stayed hiding as he considered various possibilities. If he went with cultivating his base to 1st stage, what was the chances of him being found out and being executed? He was also sure he couldn’t let this Scavendel die because then he won’t be able to fulfill his hidden mission. And he was still not sure why they needed to recognize his strength. It was mentioned that they were ‘his’ tribe, meaning, they might be his future base… 

He was pretty sure he could leave this assignment be, hidden missions just gave satisfactory rewards, they were not important enough… but he felt there must be a way around this cruel task. 

The mission didn’t specify a tribe, but who else would his tribe be if not his parent tribe? Shen Yu was frustrated.  EM CXT

He raced his brain through some of the research he had done, and also thought from different angles. He remembered that his clan had told him to focus on his cultivation first, but how can he focus on it if he didn’t even know when he would be killed? He certainly won’t be able to leave because that barrier wouldn’t let him. His identity was still that of Vinir, his change of body didn’t matter, this didn’t sound like a loophole at all. 

The scent of sweet herb was getting stronger the more Shen Yu lingered around the residence. It might be just his imagination, but he started to feel slightly muddle headed, it was getting more difficult to think, as if being affected by something… then he searched Vinir’s memory and realized this was the mother tree inducing the residents into a forced daze… eyes widening, Shen Yu’s expression froze.  

If this was the reaction of the residents after a forced calm, then what were they like when there was no sweetness curbing their fear? Would they have fainted in fear? And what about him… scrambling to his haunches, Shen Yu hadn’t known how long had passed, but he seemed to sense a strange hostile Qi enveloping him, the dangerous intent getting stronger without Shen Yu realizing it.

Slowly, his mind started to concentrate, to his absolute frustration and horror, it was the mother tree, it was trying to sap Shen Yu’s energy, it was kind of terrifying how the energy quickly started to leak his dantian, whatever amount he had been able to gather in this short time was being removed with force.  

It… hurt. Badly.

Shit, it was dangerous. He needed to leave! Alarm rang in his brain and his instinct took over. 

Shen Yu’s expression was cold to the point he could freeze someone to death. He tried to circulate his Qi and absorb energy, but it was useless to fight against the very being which gave birth to new elves every year in batches.  aO1TpN

Getting up in a rush, Shen Yu escaped his hiding, and ran in a different direction, which looked much safer. He left the elves who were probably just as dazed as him. He followed the northern direction, and Vinir had never gone there because it was the most targeted by dark elves.  

Shen Yu wasn’t worried about dark elves finding him, he was worried about not being able to break away from this place. He may come back here after his cultivation had risen in stage, but for now he couldn’t care less about staying. That mother tree had found him and he was a major target for a sacrificial ritual. 

The scenery changed as Shen Yu ran barefoot over hard stones and slippery hillside. There was thick forest land covering the area, and it got more difficult to run the further he went. He was now following the blind pattern; he didn’t even see where he was going anymore. He just needed to escape. Also, the herbal scent was making it hard to stay focused. 

Heart pounding, Shen Yu stumbled over a tree root, falling face first into the thick humus. It tasted very bad, but he was more urgent in his need to get away. The mother tree’s influence got stronger when in range with other trees, and on the hindsight, Shen Yu grimaced when he thought this was earth magic that he had failed to take into consideration.  03CH8d
