After a while of tiresome running, Shen Yu felt his core was going to shrink in on itself, the mother tree was trying to dry him up of whatever he had collected. It was torture, but he also couldn’t keep running like this. 

Heaving, he looked up to take a quick glance at the situation, he was shocked to find a golden wall lying dormant right in front. It was faint and shimmery, clearly the ‘barrier’ that was erected after all those sacrifices. Shen Yu pitied the newborns who gave their life away to help create all this, and… he had to bring it down, or at least do something to get past this without ruining his own body.

A slight rustle of leaves sent Shen Yu into vigilance, he slowly turned to glance in that direction, and was left speechless.  

There, stood Kai, a black garment wrapped around his body in a makeshift clothe, he smelled of wild forest and looked… perfectly in his element. Shen Yu couldn’t possibly forget him, his playful eyes and the vicious aura that generally surrounded him was hard to not remember. It must be his elven senses that could tell apart scents… and Kai smelled dangerous. His elven inheritance was telling him to run. Clearly screaming at him to just do something about his situation. 

However, all this was just a secondary thought, a weak mumbling in midst of acute pain and daze, was he hallucinating now? He wasn’t sure anymore. So, he let himself stare, the hurting dantian hurt less if he kept staring, his situation didn’t seem bleak anymore.

He mumbled something which even he himself couldn’t distinguish, nuzzling the warm skin the minute he felt settled into the embrace. He felt so safe and happy, the familiar scent of danger and the wild intermingling with his own… he couldn’t recall why he wanted to bite though. Why bite…? 

But he could, he was a kitten… nya~ 

Then he heard the familiar voice say, “tsk, you almost get killed on the first day of work… stop biting ah, your clan is watching…” the voice then added a bit later, “never mind, keep biting so I know you aren’t dead.”  JR9aAq

Then a while later, there was a sharp screech somewhere, a howling of some sort, and Kitten couldn’t help but jerk in sleep. Nya~ Let me sleep!
