Ye Xun is tired of his mother—well, more specifically, he is finished with her. She threw her last card, thinking that it would work with him. And now, Ye Xun made his choice.

Ye Xun would have thought that Chang Min looked adorable, but his anger, finally breaking free, took over his mind. He rested his forehead on Chang Min’s shoulder, taking in his scent, “This visit was the last straw, Chang Min. I told my father I would be the bigger person, but I changed my mind.”
“What are you going to do?” Chang Min asked. He wrapped his arm around Ye Xun, rubbing his back.
“Everything my father owned is in my name. I lied to my mother that she owned half and even gave her fake documents, and being the most powerful family, who would question me?
“But, now, I am taking everything back. My mother can keep the home; there is nothing there for me anymore, but everything else I am taking. She doesn’t even deserve any of the companies my father built from the ground up.
“She is a headstrong woman, meaning she could survive on her own.” Ye Xun explained.
“Does that mean you would have to take over your father’s companies? What are you going to do about the job you currently have?”
Ye Xun sighed, “I will need to find someone to take over my job. I did not want all the power that came with my father’s possessions. But, to bring my mother down, I will do it. Plus, another reason I chose not to take over my father’s companies is that I wanted to spend time with you.”
Feeling warm at that response, Chang Min kissed the top of Ye Xun’s head. “Well, know that I will always be here; I am not going anywhere.”
Ye Xun picked his head up, kissing Chang Min’s lips as he relaxed. Anger still lingered within, but Chang Min burned some down. “I heard there was food in my name?”
“There is but at this rate, Coffee and Cream might have stolen the fish I cooked for you.” Chang Min responded.

“She could get something from you and make you earn jail time with the way you falsified some documents.”
Ye Xun set his cup down, leaning back as his face still held no reaction. Even his body felt calm. “No, she won’t. My mother cares about reputation, and if she brings me to court, then everything will come out.
“It would show how she never went to his funeral or his will reading. It would show she did not care about her ex-husband. And that would make her look bad. My mother already has a sigma over her head for fucking other men while married; this would make her look worse.
“And then people would question: why did a man who loved her so much leave her nothing? Wouldn’t that make her seem like a gold-digging slut who used my father to further herself?
“She will not risk it; she needs the connections she built. So, my mother would continue to curse me, calling me ungrateful and cruel names, but she will listen. She will make something up on why she is stepping down to keep this matter private.
“And it is not like I am leaving her with nothing. She can have the house and all the stuff she bought over the years. I am leaving her with five million dollars, allowing her to build herself.” Ye Xun explained.
He did not want to leave his mother any money, but he decided to be somewhat kind and compensate for lying.
Li Shan sighed, “Then, there is nothing to worry about?”
Humming once more, Ye Xun pulled out a check from his pocket, setting it in front of Li Shan. The check showed fifty million dollars. “This is for you. I know my mother will leave you with nothing.”
Looking at the check and back at Ye Xun, Li Shan asked, “How do you know I am going to divorce your mother soon?”
“Because knowing that she no longer has power, why would you stay any second longer married to a woman you don’t love? She cannot take your daughter from you anymore.”
Li Shan smiled, “You are right. But, I will wait until next week so that things can settle down.”
“Okay. But, take the check.”
“You know, you don’t owe me anything, right?”
“I know. But, who am I to leave my father’s only true friend with nothing?” Ye Xun shrugged.
Chuckling, Li Shan took the check, putting it in his pocket, “Sometimes, I can see your father in you.”
Ye Xun would not admit how those words warmed his heart. He would never be kind like his father, but the words still felt like the world to him. He needs to visit his father’s grave soon and talk with him.
“Thank you.” Ye Xun responded.
It was silent for a while before Li Shan said, “Did you know your father’s first dream was to be a basketball player in his first year of high school?”
Ye Xun instantly grew interested, “No, I didn’t.”
“Well, it was, and he sucked at it. He couldn’t shoot or even pass to save a life. Your grandparents supported him no matter what; I did too. But, oh man, it was terrible.
“One time, he ended up tripping on air in the middle of a game and accidentally pulled down a player’s shorts to catch his fall. And even then, he still ended up busting his nose. It was funny and embarrassing. Plus, it made your father realize that the dream was not going to happen.” Li Shan held back his laughter as he thought back to high school.
Ye Xun did not cover his laughter, “Was he okay?”
“Yeah. Your father is strong. But, after failing with sports, he went to cooking. Your father is a genius; he has been winning awards since he was five over academics. But, common sense is not his strong suit.
“For someone as smart as him to mix up measurements and create a mess over the simplest things amaze me. One time, he caused an explosion in home economics over eggs. Freaking eggs!”
This time, Li Shan and Ye Xun were both laughing until their sides hurt. Ye Xun remembers when his father wanted to make him breakfast once and burned everything. He ended up having to make food instead after seeing how his father worked in the kitchen.
“I can see that. My father tried cooking for me before, and it ended up being a disaster.” Ye Xun mentioned.
“He made me food, and I did not want to be mean and not eat it. So I did and ended up with food poisoning. Your father was so distraught, apologizing the whole time. I told him it was fine because I would do it all over again.” Li Shan added.
They spent the rest of the morning talking about Ye Heng. Ye Xun enjoyed the stories he hadn’t heard before, laughing at how clumsy his father honestly was. The stuff with his mother, he put to the back of his mind because he knew he did not have to worry about it.
Finally got what she deserved… meaning nothing.
