Story of Another UsCh4 - We’re Rivals

Sebi was told to rest as much as he possibly could since the earthquake incident has really taken a toll on his energy plus the fact that he went through that ability examination. He gladly did it, since he was too out of it to even complain.

By the next morning, Sebi woke up and felt rejuvenated. He shoved the bed sheets covering his body to the side and sat up, rubbing his eyes to rid himself of the sleep. roF S1

“Good, you’re awake.”

A startled yelp left Sebi’s lips when he heard someone speak. When he sensed who it was, a smile quickly crossed over his lips.

“N-Neco!” Sebi called out happily.

He hadn’t been able to get a proper look at Necomir back when he first woke up, so now he took his time and stared at him. Since the Necomir he knew in his past life had died young, seeing him in adulthood gave him a new light.  TMhmxL

Instead of the youthful best friend he knew, he could see that this Necomir was really tall as he leaned against the wall, nearly as tall as the top of the doorframe. He was evidently muscular despite the fact that he was only wearing the Academy’s black and blue uniform. His skin was an attractive tawny shade. His long dark hair that reached past his jaw over his shoulders had streaks of white in it, framing his sharp but very pretty features that gave him a cool aura.

The only thing that never changed were his deep golden eyes – still expressive as ever.

Despite his cold face, Sebi was amused to see that his eyelashes were fluttering and it looked like he didn’t know what to say after he heard him call him by his nickname.

“H-Have you really lost your memories?” Necomir eventually said, furrowing his eyebrows to school his expression. “You’re not trying to catch me off guard on purpose, are you?”

Sebi blinked innocently. “You’re the only person I remember who is close to me.”

Which isn’t a lie. He did remember his other friends, but he was only close to Necomir.

Even though that only applied to his past life.

“The only time we were close was when we were close enough to beat each other up,” Necomir answered, looking away with red ears. eBcR2L

“I bet you won,” Sebi grinned cooly as he got up and stretched.

Necomir gaped at him, very confused as he struggled to choose whether he was annoyed or angry at the other man. Sebi genuinely didn’t want to fight with him, and he also truthfully thought of Necomir as a great and strong man whom he wanted to befriend in this lifetime.

No, scratch that.

Even if he gets transmigrated or reborn multiple times, Sebi wanted to be friends with him in every lifetime. GpNQKe

“Whatever,” Necomir finally grumbled as he pushed himself up from the wall. “Get ready, I’ll bring you to your room after you’re done and orient you.”

Sebi did as he was told and hastily took a shower. The clothes in the clinic were all white, but he didn’t fuss with it and just changed. After all, he had a room. He can just change when Necomir brings him there.

When he was done, Sebi went to Necomir who had stood his ground outside. He smiled sweetly up to the other man, who could only blink and stare at him.

“…you’re so tiny and too pale,” Necomir suddenly spoke, reaching out to grab the top of Sebi’s head. “You look like a middle schooler. You really need to strictly follow the diet program that the doctor made for you, Decebal.” xvC7Ir

“That’s rude,” Sebi pouted distastefully, but he didn’t brush Necomir away. “And call me Sebi! I don’t like hearing you say my full name.”

“And why should I?” Necomir raised an eyebrow at him. “You’re just a little chick who just hatched, you have no right to tell me what to do.”

“Neco!” Sebi whined, moving in to quickly cling on Necomir’s arm.

Necomir immediately went rigid, body unfamiliar with the sudden touch of the soft body of his old rival against his. 7zjOwH

“Whatever, Sebi,” he grunted, to which the other man reacted by moving away with a triumphant grin. Sebi was initially scared that this version of Necomir might be cold to him, but it seemed like a little teasing would just make him a little bit easier to deal with.

Necomir brought Sebi to the dormitory, which was quite far from the medical building where Sebi had been staying for the past several years ever since he was in a coma. But they boarded these little chutes that went through and under the buildings of the Academy, making it easy to go anywhere despite the distance. KUf 5M

The dormitory building was very spacious and bustling with people, but Necomir led Sebi through halls that weren’t crowded. Initially, the students in school had a hunch that the weird earthquake and the levitating objects were all caused by Headmaster Juno’s adopted son. Later, everyone has officially heard about him finally waking up after eight long years from the staff. People naturally wanted to see a glimpse of him. Because of this, Necomir didn’t want to stress him and deliberately led him to his room without much fuss.

“Why are people staring?” Sebi mumbled, lowering his head as he reached up to hold on to Necomir’s sleeve.

“Eh, you don’t know? Aside from the fact that they probably find it weird that we are both together, you went into a coma right after saving people and when you woke up, you caused a huge earthquake,” Necomir chuckled. “You’re practically Mr. Popular around here.”

“It’s not nice to stare,” Sebi mumbled as he shrinked even further into himself when two girls passed by with their eyes shamelessly on him.  xaozVF

Necomir felt a twinge of pity looking at him. He’s so small and underdeveloped for their age and he was strangely ridden with anxiety, it’s hard to see him as the same loud and confident boy from when they were kids, let alone be a powerful psychic.

Was his brain injury that bad that even his personality seemed to have shifted?

“We’re close to your room,” Necomir said, lightly patting his back. “I’m supposed to show you around campus, but will you be okay?”

Sebi snapped his head up and nodded vigorously. He was nervous around the stares of strange people, but he definitely wouldn’t miss a chance to spend time with Necomir. His memories were also incomplete, so he would have to ask him. G39axI

“I just need to change, we can go get food and you can then tour me around,” Sebi eagerly said.

When they got to his room, Sebi remembered it as the one that the original Sebi had been using all his life. It was just right across Necomir’s, which made him feel satisfied.

“Do you have the card for the lock? The Headmaster didn’t give it to me,” the taller man spoke.

Before he could answer, Sebi suddenly felt the presence of another person. The feeling was like someone touching the back of his head but without doing it physically. This was a feeling he was familiar with because of the physical ability examination with the robots. If he pushed a bit further, Sebi knew he’d be able to hear their thoughts and identify who it was.  t1drvd

But he didn’t, because Sebi’s attention was attracted by the sudden buzz of someone using their abilities. His eyes fell over Necomir’s shoulder, and he saw a knife heading their way.

Without saying anything, Sebi suddenly pushed Necomir behind him and calmly faced the knife, fingers touching his temple. The other was horrified, watching helplessly as the knife headed for his face and Necomir could only cry out a startled “Sebi!”

The knife stopped before it hit him. It levitated in the air, the cold metal glinting before it began shaking and shattered into pieces that never fell to the floor – just completely disappearing into mid air.

“Oh? The Augustine Necomir Aquila didn’t sense my attack?” came a playful voice before two people finally came into their vision. The one who spoke was short, with mischievous dark brown eyes, terracotta, brownish-red skin and blond hair that was obviously dyed. His companion who was a lot taller than him had light brown eyes and black crew cut hair, his skin a light brown shade.  QNEPcS

It was Light Cheosakul and Aristotle Ramirez, the original Sebi’s close friends.

“I can’t sense danger from that illusion,” Necomir answered coldly, not even interested in this person’s obvious attempts at provoking him.

“You’re just making up excuses,” Light teased.

“Light, don’t bully him,” Sebi chastised him. JygmfW

Light looked at him in surprise, exchanging knowing glances with Aristotle before he turned to him again and cleared his throat.

“It was just for fun, Decebal. You know how it is. Just like good old times,” Light grinned as he stepped forward and patted Sebi’s fluffy brown hair. “Wow, you really did come back after several years. You know people actually talked about how Headmaster Juno is crazy for keeping you alive for so long? I never doubted her. What’s really crazy would be euthanizing the most powerful psychic of our generation.”

“I’m grateful to her,” Sebi smiled politely.

“But there’s some things that seem wrong after you woke up…” Light glanced at Necomir. “Why are you with this dull guy over here?” 2FX70e

Sebi furrowed his eyebrows in displeasure. “Necomir’s good. He saved me when I lost control.”

“Am I hearing this right?” Light rubbed his ear. “Decebal Yan thinks Augustine Necomir Aquila is good? Aris, tell me I’m hearing this wrong.”

“Don’t make trouble,” Aristotle solemnly said with a low, smooth voice, placing a hand on Light’s shoulder. “We’re too old for childish squabbles. You can bring your grievances up in the Hexagon.”

Sebi racked his brain for what the Hexagon was, and he recalled through the inherited memories that tournaments to measure the improvement of students for Ability Enhancement class were conducted in the Hexagon. The original Sebi was able to compete and actually even clashed a lot with Necomir in their youth. iyRmq8

“See how much Ari has changed?” Light winked at Sebi. “He used to be so silent and just obeyed what we say, now he knows how to put me in my place!”

“Thank you, Aristotle. You’ve had it rough,” Sebi smiled.

Light didn’t miss the insinuation so he pouted and reached out to Sebi to playfully grapple him in retaliation, but Necomir quickly pressed a finger on his forehead and pushed him away before standing in front of Sebi.

“Ow!” Light quickly complained. “Necomir, you bastard!” XdeKr2

“Alright, that’s enough,” he said. “Sebi has some business to attend to. You guys are delaying him.”

“And since when did you start calling Decebal a Sebi?” Light snapped.

“None of your business,” Necomir waved a hand and slung an arm over Sebi’s shoulders. “I suggest you run off and check on with one of your subjects because you might get dropped and lose units you need for this semester.”

Light’s face flushed in panic. “Necomir, you’re lying! Your ability isn’t that advanced!” M6VvIF

“I’m not,” he shrugged nonchalantly. “Better run off now.”

Before Light could resort to violence because of his annoyance, Aristotle grabbed his shirt and pulled him away in a hurry.

“Were you lying?” Sebi wondered after they had dashed away.

“Why don’t you see?” Necomir urged him with a mischievous look across his face. OqkPlb

The smaller boy shook his head. “I don’t want to trespass into your mind unless absolutely necessary.”

“Then you’ll never know,” Necomir laughed with a shrug. “Anyway, go on and open the door. Wait, you never answered my question. Do you have the card?”

“It doesn’t need a card,” Sebi said as he lifted his hand up to the pad of metal. He directed his attention on the mechanism below the pad, using his ability to control them and align them to the appropriate pattern for it to open.

The original Sebi of this universe could always just use his card, but Sebi was able to unlock it in not even a second with his ability alone. Thus, it was unnecessary to take out the card especially now that he didn’t have it. hfSJGO

“It’s clean,” Sebi said in surprise when the door slid open. The room was minimalist, with only a bed, a closet and a desk. The walls were blue and free of any decorations. It definitely looked like a place that had not been used for years.

“A cleaning robot always comes by to clean the rooms,” Necomir explained as he waved his hand. “Go on and change, I’ll just stand there.”

“No, come here and sit,” Sebi said, gesturing to his desk as he pulled his plain shirt up and took it off without much feelings of shyness. Necomir hastily looked away, ears red as he dutifully marched over the desk to take a seat. He was glad Sebi wouldn’t read his mind.

Sebi opened his closet and was surprised to see it filled with clothes that fit him well. His body only grew a tiny bit bigger than when he was fourteen years old, but it’s still good. Most importantly, he also had three pieces of the Academy uniform. It consists of a black shirt, topped with a black jacket top with blue linings. It’s matched with black slacks and boots with the same blue linings. This uniform also had a training version, wherein you can change the jacket top with a sleeveless top that clung snugly around the wearer’s figure. SR9O51

Sebi took out the standard uniform and went off to take a quick shower. Necomir was outside, so he hastily dried himself afterwards and changed while he was inside the bathroom.

When he came out, Necomir looked up from the book that he was reading from Sebi’s desk and gazed at him critically.

“Neco, how do I look?” Sebi asked, twirling around. He felt like the uniform fit him just fine, but he wanted to hear what the other thought.

After staring at him for a while, Necomir said, “You look like a child.” IXcOjF

“Hey, that’s mean!” Sebi whined as he controlled the book and slapped it vengefully over Necomir’s head.

“Oww, that’s unfair!” Necomir gave him an ugly look as he rubbed his head. “Don’t use your powers against other students.”

“I’m a good student, but I’m your rival and I have no morals when it comes to you,” Sebi said as he stuck his tongue out playfully. “Now go and tour me around campus.”

“Do you even need the tour? Looks like you have recovered your memories,” Necomir mumbled as he walked up to the door. lbyZtR

“I can hear you,” Sebi grinned mischievously as he held on to Necomir’s arm.

“Would you let me go, people will think it’s weird,” Necomir protested as he raised his arm, but Sebi didn’t let go and only clung even more.

“We’re adults now, they can think we finally ended our childish rivalry.”

“Have you forgotten how awful our animosity was? You literally threw me out of a window once.” 2 dpmo

Sebi wanted to cry when he suddenly heard this. The awful thing was he can actually remember it!

When they were twelve, the original Sebi of this universe got into a fight with Necomir because he mistakenly took his book, and then it got heated as always. Necomir attacked him and Sebi then defended himself by throwing him out of the three-story window and only stopping his fall when he was a foot away from the ground.

“Sorry… I won’t do it again,” Sebi guiltily said, moving away from Necomir as he placed his hands behind him.

Just when he thought Sebi was finally recovering his memories, Necomir was taken aback to hear him apologizing.  sIGg1x

Decebal Yan never apologized. Necomir initially felt that he could accept that Sebi wanted to have a calmer relationship with him whether he did or did not lose his memories. Seeing him anxious also made him feel weirded out, but he thought Sebi’s just feeling a bit insecure since he did miss out a lot on things people his age should experience.

But Decebal Yan apologizing

Necomir never heard Sebi apologize for anything, even if it got him in trouble. All the things he did were from choices he doesn’t regret.

And now that he heard him apologizing, Necomir has become very concerned about Sebi’s brain chemistry. 9WXqNs

Necomir stopped on his tracks, making Sebi stop as well. He turned to him, eyebrows furrowed, and was about to start speaking when he suddenly heard a familiar voice and froze.

  1. whoops, sebi ooc’d too hard. better try to pretend to be rivals again x’D

  2. Ah, Sebi is so cute. The way he just wants to get along with Neco, even after realizing that they were rivals in this universe is so precious.

The way he used his power, got me thinking. Maybe in the future he’ll be able to turn his enemies into dust using his powers, that, i would like to see.

    Thanks for the chapter!
