Story of Another UsCh3 - A Second Chance

While unconscious, Sebi was able to collect his inherited memories and understand the situation he was currently in.

It seemed like he had transmigrated into a different universe right after his death, his soul transferring into the body of the version of himself in this universe. The Sebi here had suffered a brain injury after trying to help his classmates escape during an alien infiltration into the Academy of New Humanitarian Science when he was fourteen. He was confident as a powerful telepath and telekinetic, but he was young and he could only handle as much. He had been sleeping for six years until his soul took over the body. ewPSDU

Most importantly, Sebi discovered, to his dismay, that he was not friends with his best friend in this universe.

Even worse was that they were actually rivals!

Sebi in this universe was also an orphan whose name was only known because it was within the swaddles that he came with when he was left at the orphanage’s door, but he was taken by the same person as in his past life, Headmaster Philippa Juno, right after he first demonstrated his powers. When he turned nine, he was admitted into the Academy and quickly rose among the students with his talent and intelligence.

But in the process, Sebi faced adversary. The one he butted heads against the most was Necomir, who always tried his best to steal his rank.  iLwsIo

No wonder Necomir had been so awkward with him when they first met… it so happened that they weren’t close in this universe at all.

But Sebi had heard his thoughts. Necomir had been concerned with him, and he’s the one who even got help for him.

For as long as Necomir felt even the tiniest sense of kindness towards him, Sebi was sure that he’d win him over.

It’s a strange world and Sebi has been through an experience that completely shattered his worldview. He can’t help but seek for the comfort of his old friend’s presence, especially now that he was alive and just at reach.

After Sebi had fallen unconscious after transmigration, he woke up that same night with the headmaster and a doctor talking by his bedside. He felt a bit more secure in his body, like his soul had finally fully integrated and owned it.

“H-Headmaster…” Sebi called out in a tiny voice. He was quick to feel a sense of reliance towards her as his guardian figure from the past.

When he died, Sebi wondered if Headmaster Juno cried for him.

She  probably did. Everyone thought Headmaster Juno was very rigid and serious, but she had been very indulgent to Sebi and really helped him with everything he wanted in life despite not even being her formally adopted son. xoeLCQ

Sebi would probably never know, but all that matters was that there was a Headmaster Juno in this universe, too.

It’s a complete second chance with people he cherished.

Upon hearing his voice, Headmaster Juno quickly turned towards him and rushed over, smiling brightly as she bent down and grabbed his hand.

“D-Decebal!” she cried out happily, eyes watery. “I-I’m so happy! Y-You’re really awake! Do you feel pain anywhere? Is your head okay?” Mlrjxa

Sebi smiled and shook his head. “I’m fine, I don’t feel any pain… although I do feel a bit woozy.”

The headmaster looked up to the doctor helplessly, who immediately supplied, “It’s alright, Mr. Yan just needs a bit more rest. We’ll also need to give him an appropriate health plan and supplements to aid his cognition and development. He’s more fine than we expected him to be.”

“I want to stay and study,” Sebi quickly decided. “I also want to see Neco… Necomir. I want to see him.” 8Ufd L

The headmaster gave him a strange look but was gentle as she said, “Decebal, why are you looking for Mr. Aquila? Shouldn’t you be looking for your friends, like Mr. Cheosakul and Mr. Ramirez?”

Sebi did remember that he was close to two other kids, Light Cheosakul and Aristotle Ramirez. He can remember that they were nice to him and were even quite indulgent, but he wasn’t too sure about it now.

He preferred Necomir over them.

“But I want Necomir…” Sebi mumbled, a bit sulky as he pouted. 9FV46x

Headmaster Juno felt her chest tighten. This child never asked anything from her before. Sebi was proud and confident, but underneath that was the fear of feeling like a burden especially since the headmaster has done so much for him already.

Now that Sebi was finally asking something from her,  she naturally felt like she cannot do anything but what he wanted.

“Okay, then you’ll stay here and be friends with Mr. Aquila,” she patted his head affectionately. “But you need to know that you’re turning twenty at the end of the month. You’re a year late into college, and you have skipped most of your highschool experience. If you want to stay, you can enter college but you need to take extra lessons for this semester. You will also have to take the highschool equivalency exam.”

“I can do it,” Sebi confidently said, tilting his chin up. “Studying is not a burden.” jkt1sy

Headmaster Juno felt like melting into a puddle of tenderness and pride for her little adopted son. He just woke up after a coma and yet here he was, confident and passionate as ever. A woman of the academe would obviously feel thankful to have him.

“Then what do you want to study for college?” she asked. “You used to be really good at math.”

“I’m interested in anthropology,” Sebi smiled widely, feeling excited. This was a new universe to him, thus there was a lot he’d be able to learn. Maybe he might even be able to share some of his own knowledge, in case he knew things that were unknown in this universe.

Headmaster Juno showed an excited expression. “That’s a good choice. There’s currently really few students taking it up, and we need more. The Ministry of Intergalactic Affairs recently launched the third expedition to Earth, and they detected the remains of a museum submerged in the oceans. It’s promising.” Cuoeyd

And just like that, Sebi now had a path. He was given the chance to be alive again, and he needed to cherish every single second.

“Headmaster, Mr. Yan has a scheduled ability examination today to see if there is any possibility of overflow again,” the doctor informed them. “Mr. Yan’s condition has stabilized, so he is ready to go.”

“Thank you, Dr. Wu,” Headmaster Juno bowed her head to the doctor then turned to Sebi. “Decebal, we need to check on your ability, if that’s okay.”

Sebi nodded, wanting to use his ability. He theoretically knew how to use them through the memories he inherited from this body, but he wasn’t sure if he could control it well. It’s good to have the opportunity to use it so he can test it out and get a feel for it properly. B3a75F

And so, the headmaster and Dr. Wu guided him to a very spacious blue room. Headmaster Juno was up in the watch room that overlooked where he was, standing together with three nurses.

“Mr. Yan, please don’t mind,” Dr. Wu said as she gave him a helmet that sprouted with spider legged-like contraptions then clung to his head.

“This device will help us track your brain activity,” she said. “You will be facing a few challenges, so use your ability to combat them. We’re going to start off with what you were capable of before your coma, then we’ll keep on going from there.”

Sebi nodded, saying, “I understand.” dAkJzy

This new body completely felt as if it was Sebi’s. There was no feeling of alienation or anything at all. He could even feel the presence of his ability inside him, much like a limb. He only needed to summon it like how he made his limbs move – it was natural.

But the same way he couldn’t just use his leg to kick someone, he had doubts about using it at first.

Story translated by Chrysanthemum Garden.

Since Sebi was given permission to use his ability, then he will gladly do it.

Dr. Wu came to join the headmaster up in the watch room. Sebi heard her speak through the communication device inside the helmet, “Mr. Yan, we shall start.” iJgG3z

The blue room suddenly changed into what Sebi perceived as outer space. It was dark, dimly illuminated by the distant Sol Star of the Terra Star System. With his memories, Sebi recognized that the terrain was one of the three moon satellites of Terra.

Then suddenly, an alien known as a Draconian flew straight towards him. Sebi let out a yelp, lifting his hand up and immediately made a swiping motion, shoving it away with his ability. Draconians were aliens that looked like a strange mix of a dragon but humanoid, with limbs and body parts much like that of insects. They came in groups, so Sebi went into defense mode to greet the horde of Draconians heading towards him.

This was the first level, so the challenge was simply to clear out the horde. It wasn’t tiring for Sebi, who just easily swept them away and slammed them hard enough against the ground or the rocks so they would fall unconscious. With every strike, he gradually got a good hang of his ability.

“Very good, Mr. Yan,” Dr. Wu spoke after he had cleared the level. “Your vitals show no sign of strain. Ready for the next level?” AtzdnB

The feeling of using an ability that Sebi used to only think was science fiction in his past life was still a bit strange, but it was exhilarating and he wanted to use it more.

“Don’t stop, Dr. Wu,” Sebi eagerly said. “Continue on until you think I can’t handle it any longer.”

Headmaster Juno who can hear the conversation through the loudspeakers didn’t feel worried. She was actually ecstatic, because this was the Sebi she knew – confident and determined. Dr. Wu also didn’t feel too worried, so she relented and proceeded with the next level.

Sebi encountered a tunnel falling on him. He felt the debris falling over him, and while it wasn’t that heavy, they still felt solid and he didn’t want them to bury him down. He brought his fingers to his temple and let his ability out, using it as an umbrella as he ran down the tunnel towards the end. 7CaWJF

After that level, Sebi was only given a few seconds to breathe before the room shifted. The floor below him disappeared and suddenly, the whole room changed into the view of the sky and he was falling.

Panic filled his veins, and Sebi had half the mind to reach out and make Dr. Wu stop the exam. But the original Sebi wasn’t just smart with an ability – his mind was sharp and he was able to use his ability when aroused by instinct. Naturally, this saved the current Sebi, who discovered he can actually levitate himself and fly.

It was so liberating. The effort made Sebi use even more of his ability than earlier, and it made his veins buzz excitedly. It’s a bit scary, though. If this ability fell in the hands of someone sinister like those evil people he read in science fiction books that Necomir loved to read in his past life, then it would definitely be abused.

“You’re doing so good, Decebal!” he heard Headmaster Juno praise him happily. vF1sbZ

Sebi knew the level wasn’t over. He continued to be alert, positioning himself properly with his arms outstretched forward and his legs stuck close together as he glided smoothly.

And he was right, because the sky suddenly darkened, and then came the onslaught of meteorites.

Despite freaking out at how ridiculously and highly dangerous this kind of scenario was, Sebi just sucked it up and maneuvered himself through the meteorites while clearing his path at the same time. There were so many meteorites that the scene actually seemed the same as from a footage he had seen in his past life when radioactive meteorites ravaged the Earth.

After he cleared this level, Sebi began to feel tired. But he still wanted to keep going, and Dr. Wu didn’t find any signs of strain on him as of the moment, so she started the next level again. cJoMtI

A mass of robots suddenly appeared, marching towards Sebi with their guns trained on him. Sebi lifted a hand to use his telekinesis, but he heard Dr. Wu speak.

“These are newly-invented artificial intelligence robots with system units similar to the brain of people. It is made specifically for telepaths to train with so that we don’t have to use actual people,” Dr. Wu explained. “So this time, use your telepathy.”

Sebi nodded and brought his fingers to his temple. Much to his pleasant surprise, he did feel the presence of minds pressing against him, all to his disposal despite it being artificial. He eagerly pressed forward, invading their minds and manipulating their behavior.

“Aim your guns at yourselves, then fire,” Sebi ordered them, to which the robots instantly obeyed. Kh5yQT

As the robots fell, so did he.

“Decebal!” Headmaster Juno cried out, her anxious voice ringing into Sebi’s ears.

That wasn’t the extent of his abilities. Sebi was just simply burnt out a bit because of the earthquake accident, so he couldn’t push himself further and was already too tired to even stand.

The simulation ended, and Sebi felt the headmaster and Dr. Wu approach him. hj4VnE

“Doctor! Did Sebi do too much?!” Headmaster Juno asked as she bent down to help Sebi in a sitting position.

“I’m okay, Headmaster,” Sebi assured her. “I’m just tired.”

“There isn’t any strain on his abilities, he just ran out of energy to keep on using it,” Dr. Wu spoke as she took off the helmet from his head. “His results show that despite years of being in a coma and his ability being uncultivated, it seems like his ability still grew exponentially with age. He just needs to learn control, as he might get overwhelmed by it due to lack of practice.”

“That’s good,” Headmaster Juno sighed in relief. VeE6IY

“I’m so satisfied,” Sebi whispered, feeling drowsy. “I want to practice more.”

“Well, then we’ll give you all the practice you want after you properly get a lot of rest,” Headmaster Juno chuckled as a couple of nurses came in to help Sebi, who has fallen asleep.

  1. Such a caring mom you have there, Sebi~

    And a lovely new cover!!

    Thanks for the chapter (。・ω・。)ノ♡

  2. I have to say, the only names I recognize from this novel are Aristotle and Juno, and that’s bc one was a philosopher and the other was a goddess. The rest are neat, and Decebal sounds like it’s pronounced ‘decibel’ which fits well with the futuristic science fiction theme. I’m so glad your protagonist is a nerd and I cried when he was happy to get a second chance to appreciate the people he cared about in his past life. Quite impressive start to the novel, I have to say. Looking forward to the rest of it

    • Thank you for appreciating the names, I really chose them carefully so that they can sound a bit ancient but also scientific and diverse at the same time to reflect the current culture of the Terrarian humans ahahha

A nerd protagonist definitely makes things more interesting, and it’s also an outlet for me as social studies major who wants more nerd protags who specialize in humanities ahahahaa

Thank you so much for reading!

  3. Headmaster Juno is a good adoptive parent, she worries about Sebi.

I’m quite interested in Sebi’s powers, i wonder to what extent he can use them, would he be able to just move his hand, and swoosh, all his enemies would be sent flying?

    Thanks for the chapter!
