Story of Another UsCh21 - Yield

Telepaths fighting each other with their sheer mind abilities sounds a bit boring. They would just stand there, send mental attacks to chip down each other’s defenses, and whoever falls first will lose. There’s not much action happening, so the audience couldn’t spectate much and would even feel a bit sleepy.

But if you asked anyone who witnessed the battle between Misharu and Sebi, they would all say the same thing. bgJcro

It was intense.

When the match began, Misharu didn’t hesitate to attack first. It was obvious that he went all out, because he had stripped off his blindfold and his soulless gray eyes were glowing from all the power he was willing to throw. The red energy around his head looked more potent and strong than anyone has ever seen as he launched attacks at Sebi.

It was a terrifying scene, and anyone else in Sebi’s place would have their brains turned into a useless mush of pink flesh in their skulls.

While Misharu was the image of a demon, Sebi was calm but concentrated. He was mostly at defense, withstanding all of Misharu’s attacks with all he had. His efforts made the air around them fluctuate with energy, and it even seeped past the dome separating them from the bleachers that Chunmi had to invade the system again and project a protective force field around the dome. “It would be interesting to see what’s going on inside their minds,” Bellona said. “Are they playing a war with mental images, like chess? Or is it just trying to overwhelm each other until one bends? I’m so fucking curious!”

“Oh we mere mortals wouldn’t be able to fathom the sheer destructive force of their brains,” Light chuckled. “Better to just be thankful we aren’t able to know anything about their battle aside from what we can see physically.”

And it was true. No one but other telepaths would be able to understand the kind of chaotic battle happening within their brains. They would be sending each other attacks while strengthening their mental defenses because the littlest exposure would allow their opponent to penetrate through their minds and wreak havoc. While doing that, they would concoct distraction strategies, projecting mental images that served to disturb and cripple the opponent into giving up.

Since both telepaths were exceptional, it was a hard fight with no one knowing who exactly was the winner.

“I feel like…” Alexandra suddenly spoke up. “They’re going to keep on doing this until–”

“Either one of them makes a mistake or exhausts all of his energy,” Necomir finished for her.

“Then it’s not looking good for Sebi,” Chunmi worriedly mumbled. “He’s not experienced.”

“Have some fate,” Light grinned. “You don’t know the total extent of his telepathy from our youth, and he keeps developing. He’s gonna stand a chance.” b DOJf

“Open up, Decebal Yan!” Misharu cackled, his eyes crazed and glowing eerily. “Let me feast, show me your darkest secrets!”

“You’re losing it,” Sebi smiled. “Let’s end this and I’ll personally bring you to the clinic.”

Misharu quivered from anger. “You fucking smug son of a bitch, don’t think this is the peak of what I’m able to do!”

Sebi suddenly groaned, hunching over as Misharu ruthlessly pierced his mind with an onslaught of needles, like that night when he came to bother him in his room. Pain inducement was technically harmless, but the pain at a magnitude that Misharu dared to inflict was capable of crushing the mind into uselessness if Sebi didn’t do anything quickly. PzCsYJ

“Come on, break!” Misharu shouted as he excitedly stared at Sebi who struggled to keep himself together. He crazily threw himself at Sebi’s mental iron defenses and rushed to search for gaps which were surely there since Sebi was distracted by the pain.

In order to be more effective in searching for the gaps in his defenses, Misharu had used most of his mental force to do this and overwhelmed Sebi, letting his own defenses weaken. He was caught up with this tactic that when he felt his mind being penetrated, it was already too late.

Crack.

Like shards of glass, Misharu’s defenses shattered and Sebi took over him. He only had to throw himself lightly against Misharu’s defenses that have weakened due to his excitement and ego – a fatal mistake. 3UJBxE

“Yield,” Sebi ordered him.

With a look of disbelief on his face, Misharu gritted his teeth as he felt his body weaken and he fell to his knees.

“Player Yan wins!” came the announcement as the students in the bleachers finally let go of their breaths and cheered.

This was inevitable. Deep inside, Misharu actually knew from the beginning that Sebi was too powerful, that his raw power couldn’t compare at all. He may be experienced, but Sebi was gifted. Unfairly so, in a way so scary that Misharu didn’t want to think about it anymore. qAO4Xr

Fuck this, he just wanted to get out of Sebi’s way immediately.

“Misharu Tsai, remember the bet,” Sebi pleasantly said, looking like he wasn’t the least bit exhausted by the fight, with only the sweat on his forehead as any hint of it.

Misharu stared up at him, his gray eyes glowing eerily but has considerably dimmed. Sebi held his hand out to help him up, but the other man didn’t need his good graces. Misharu simply got up and brushed past Sebi, slamming against his shoulder as he then walked away.

“Sebi!” faROzp

Necomir rushed towards the man, who smiled at him brightly as if he had not been against such a hostile battle with the most powerful telepath in the academy. Their other friends followed suit, checking up on him and making sure he wasn’t hurt.

Except for one.

“Misharu!”

The defeated telepath came to a stop upon hearing that familiar voice calling out his name. Misharu didn’t understand why, didn’t know what compelled him to do it, but he turned around. GYlZFH

“What do you want?” he bluntly said.

Akhenaten stopped in front of him and lifted the white cloth in his hand.

“Your blindfold,” he said.

Misharu didn’t speak and simply took it from him then put it on.  YlRDhU

“Thanks,” he mumbled.

“Misharu,” Akhenaten called out with a soft voice. “If you need someone to talk to… you can talk to me.”

That’s strange.

“That’s not something you willingly tell the madman who caused trouble for your friend.” Zgjd1A

“I don’t really care,” Akhenaten stubbornly said as he stepped closer to him. “I think you’re pretty cool, you were just a little annoying to Decebal. But I’m allowed to have my own opinion of you.”

Misharu looked away and suddenly had the feeling of a dog eagerly clinging to him, wanting to play.

“Don’t be stupid,” he said as he turned around.

“I’m not who you think I am.” vSjBU3

  1. Misharu is like one of those punky cool king of the elementary kids that first time experienced puberty and had his circumcision yesterday…

    Thanks for the chapter!

  2. I honestly think Misharu is a not a bad guy. He is just competitive.

    Thanks for the chapter!
