Translator's Note

对牛弹琴:Chinese idiom that means playing qin in front of a bull, which is similar to howling at the moon in English. I added Shakespearean poetry in place for 高山流水, a classic piece of Chinese music, to mean that however masterful your words are (hence Shakespearean poetry), the bull or the moon wouldn’t get it.

Translator's Note

狗改不了吃屎:The original is much more crude than the English alternative as it literally means a dog cannot change its habit of eating shit. I chose the alternative just because it made more sense, though some unique humor (LOL) of this novel is certainly lost with the alternative.
