However, it was previously mentioned that there are businesses in the Cape of Desolation that is operated by players (brothels being one of them). Therefore, this sentence could be Ren Yifei’s misconception of the Cape of Desolation (since he just arrived into this place).
We will learn more about the city later (mainly, after the next arc).

I wouldn’t say that Ren Yifei tangled up his emotions with acting, but rather that as child, he was supposed to act but didn’t express his emotions in a „normal“ way like other kids. For example, they didn’t want him as child actor because he wouldn’t cry. That could mean that he simply didn’t feel much, didn’t know how to act in certain situations, so he looked at others and started copying them, started acting to come across a certain way so people would perceive him as „normal“. He doesn’t feel much, but the characters he acts do, so he seeks that „warmth“ from them, especially from kind and lively characters like A’Fei in the first arc.
Any thoughts?
