Our Sweet DaysChapter 4

Sun Fang woke up the next morning, well-rested and with a renewed well of energy. As his eyelashes fluttered open and he stared up at the white ceiling, he smiled. He’d thought that, despite everything, he would feel bad about his estrangement from his family when he had a chance to calm down and think it over. After all, this was his family he was talking about. The people who raised him, who had given him this privileged existence.

But Sun Fang felt nothing but joy. He was finally free; finally, everything he’d worked for had come to fruition. pKWxHX

With this, they’d never accept him back.

He grinned to himself and pressed his face against his pillow, feeling the warmth washing over him. His brother could have everything, Sun Fang will gladly give it to him. Honestly, he was looking forward to seeing how things would play out, far more than he wanted to interfere. It would doubtlessly be hilarious.

His feet kicked the covers off him. He turned around to lay on his back and stare up at the ceiling again, at the sunlight that cast long shadows on it. The curtains were open and the sun’s rays had free access to his bedroom. He threw a hand over his eyes and squinted when the light became too much. But it was fine — he was far too happy to let something so small bother him.

The first thing to do, he figured, was to go get some breakfast. J tOP4

Once he’d had a decent meal and his stomach stopped making that infernal noise, he could see about making a new plan. His old one, after all, had just been completed.

”I’m awake, I’m awake,” he assured his AI butler and waved it away when it tried to enter his room.  Sun Fang dragged a hand through his tangled hair and frowned at it, ”Go make breakfast, will you please?”

The butler made a sound and left to go to the kitchen. Meanwhile, Sun Fang found his hairbrush and got started on taming his wild mess of hair. He frowned as he pulled on the hair, the motion causing him pain. Enough pain that he decided to just give up when he was half-way done and instead go eat. It was too annoying, he’d deal with it later.

He pulled on a red bathrobe and left his bedroom. The apartment was big — it was a penthouse apartment, so that was a matter of course. Ten rooms in total, a large wide kitchen, a large living-room with one corner for the TV and the other for the fireplace. A dining-hall that was appropriately elegant and fancy, a study if he ever felt the need to use it. His bedroom, two guest rooms, and two bathrooms, one of which was adjourning to his own bedroom and then, lastly, a storage room.

The balcony was gigantic too, and the view was marvelous. Sun Fang was very happy with this purchase and could easily imagine himself living here the rest of his life.

His bare feet tapped on the hardwood floors as he approached the kitchen. ”Is it ready?” he asked as he turned the corner.

The butler turned to face him. ”Yes, Young Master.”

Sun Fang smiled and hurried over. He sat down on the stool by the counter and watched eagerly as the butler set out the food. Sure, it was just toast and chocolate milk, but he felt cheered up just seeing it. Some things wouldn’t change, even though he could now never go back to his family. 1ALPkw

”Thanks,” Sun Fang reflexively said when the food was placed in front of him.

”Please eat your fill, Young Master,” the butler said. Its voice was mechanical but still pleasant to hear, especially as Sun Fang had been hearing it all his life. This butler had been with him for as long as he could remember, and he thought he’d probably starve without him. Sun Fang couldn’t cook.

He ate the whole thing in minutes. When he drank the last of the chocolate milk, he breathed out a giant gust of wind and sank down on the stool. It was a shame that there was no backrest, then he’d be able to lean back on it. Instead, he laid his head on the counter and closed his eyes, relaxing his body as much as he was able.

The minutes slowly ticked by, the sounds of his butler cleaning the dishes soothing. He couldn’t remember how many times he’d hide in the kitchen with his butler to avoid the various annoying people he was unfortunately related to.  vxFnCH

What was he going to do now?

He didn’t have a career. He’d never had a job in his life, in fact. His university degree was largely for decoration — what could he even do with a degree in fashion history? Nobody was interested in that.

It wasn’t like he needed to get a job. He’d been squirreling away money for years (it turned out to be a lot easier than he’d expected) and he had more than enough to life off of. He could easily make due — the apartment had already been paid for, all the bills covered for the next 70 years. Ostensibly, he’d asked for the money to invest it, but it never quite made it all the way there.

So he was all set to enjoy life. A quiet life, mind you. He didn’t want to get dragged back into his family’s drama. Still, it was the kind of life he’d always dreamed about. But for the first time in over ten years, he didn’t have a plan. And it made him restless. HohbZi

”Maybe I should go shopping?” he mused, sitting up properly again.

The butler was still cleaning up the kitchen when it said, ”I will choose an outfit for you.”

”I’m just going shopping,” Sun Fang said, raising an eyebrow. The butler didn’t answer, so Sun Fang let the matter drop. He put his elbow on the counter and rested his head on his hand, trying to think of what to buy. Maybe he could find a nice café or see what new movies had been released recently?

  1. Ah~ It’s clear the butler robot is his safe haven since young but I’m stuck between seeing it as a parental figure or a romantic prospect ~❤

  2. Oh, now he has nothing to do?! I always wondered how those people who wish to rule the world, would feel all bored after achieving it. Feels like Su Fang has got the same problem now. 🤣
