If You Don’t Fall in Love, You’ll DieCh87 - Was That Car Crash Really an Accident?

Editor: Amaris

Hearing Grandpa’s voice, Ye Chen immediately stood up and called out, “Grandpa.” MvtLa5

Father Ye and Mother Ye also greeted him. Not long after, Father Ye asked, “What does it have to do with Ye Chen’s story?”

Father Ye and Mother Ye knew that Old Man Ye’s health had gotten better. They were quite shocked as well when they received the medical checkup’s report. All that they could express was implausibility all over their faces.

Diabetes, hypertension, atherosclerosis, herniated cervical and lumbar disc, as well as gout… All of these geriatric diseases could be controlled with the current medical treatments, but it was impossible to cure them.

With Old Man Ye’s current age, there would be a lot of complications when he underwent treatments, too. Taking medicine all year round would also cause a great burden on the kidney…

39kp5R

To put it bluntly, Old Man Ye could live painstakingly for a lot of years with the help of the medicines, but everything would be truly very difficult for him.

Yet now…all of these illnesses were completely gone. Even though Old Man Ye was still aging, the tedious diseases which had plagued him were now gone.

Before this, no one could figure out what was going on, but now…they found the source.

Ye Chen said, “Yes. The life points could be exchanged for the health of my loved ones.”

Old Man Ye had been listening from the corner, so he could keep up with what Ye Chen said. He asked, “But aren’t the life points used to extend Ren Jing’s life?”

Ye Chen explained in detail how the life points worked.

After listening to Ye Chen, the three wore the same expression… They truly didn’t know how to describe their feelings. hxSdNR

Father Ye summed up Ye Chen’s stories, “You had a car crash, then you were revived because Ren Jing had given his life to you. After coming back to life, you needed to do missions to extend Ren Jing’s life. One of the life…life points you obtain must be given to Ren Jing everyday, then the rest could be used by you, or you could save them up for your loved ones?”

Ye Chen nodded. “Yes, that’s it.”

Mother Ye asked, “What are the missions like? Are they difficult to do?”

Ye Chen’s face reddened, then he said under his breath, “They aren’t… All of them came from Ren Jing’s subconscious.” ZPvAcB

The three elders of Ye Family, “…”

  wVdZ3F

Even though what Ye Chen said was hard to believe, they had no choice but to believe his stories with Old Man Ye’s health as the evidence.

And once they believed his story…they immediately accepted Ren Jing.

How could they not accept him? So what if he was a man?  He was the only person who didn’t hesitate to die for their son. Such affection couldn’t be repaid by anything.

Besides, their son also liked him. Seeing them being so harmonious, what else could be the reason for them to oppose their relationship? ydH5tW

Old Man Ye let out a sigh. “Ren Jing is a good boy.”

As soon as everyone started to talk, Ren Jing was truly greeted with the warmest spring.

Ye Chen breathed a sigh of relief. He felt really glad inside his heart.

  fdubMz

Old Man Ye was an old hand after all. He caught another important point. “Was that car crash really an accident?”

Ye Chen immediately sat up straight. His back was stretched taut and both his hands were curled into fists.

Within the whole incident, the only thing he had lied about was the truth about Ye Lan.

With Brother Xinghai helping him, Ye Lan would definitely be punished according to the law. Grandpa would certainly know when the latter was arrested, it would definitely shock him, but he really didn’t need to know that Ye Lan had tried to kill Ye Chen. EDsqYu

Ye Chen wasn’t good at acting, his family could clearly see that he was scared.

His expression had practically revealed everything.

Father Ye asked with a worried voice, “What’s the matter? Did someone do it on purpose?” dCsDvk

Old Man Ye looked at Ye Chen, then asked with a voice filled with exhaustion, “Was it…Ye Lan?”

Ye Chen suddenly panicked. He tried his best to act, but…

Old Man Ye’s hale and hearty body immediately became dispirited at this moment. He sat down on the sofa and took a deep sigh. “It was my fault…”

Seeing Grandpa like this, Ye Chen felt extreme grief in his heart. 1TR34d

Old Man Ye asked, “When I was in poor health back then, you had kept the truth from me because you were afraid that I wouldn’t be able to bear it, right?”

“You’re such a handful boy…” The old man raised his hand, then his secretary took out a document.

Father Ye and Mother Ye took it and Ye Chen also did the same.

Ye Chen only needed to take a quick glance…and immediately understood what was going on. 4IzNw2

Brother Xinghai had set about really quickly. The things Ye Lan had done had been investigated, and strong evidence had been gathered together. He had been arrested and the verdict had also been passed…it was life imprisonment.

Ye Lan had contacted Grandpa, begging the latter to save him.

It was lucky that the old man was already in good health. Otherwise, he would have died from anger on the spot because of these shady businesses! 7ZNKMI

How could he even save Ye Lan? Smuggling, drug trafficking, murdering someone to silence them… A hundred deaths would still not be enough to compensate for what Ye Lan had done!

Old Man Ye could only blame himself for not having paid attention to Ye Lan’s affairs in these two years that he turned unscrupulous and caused these heinous disasters!

Yu Xinghai came to find the old man in person and explained the situations in detail. He also stated clearly that this matter had nothing to do with the Ye Family, it was Ye Lan’s own actions.

  07ILbP

Old Man Ye atoned for him by donating all of his company shares.

Yu Xinghai kept saying that he didn’t have to do that. Old Man Ye said, “A son’s mistakes are due to a father’s failure to teach.” He was responsible, he was truly responsible for all of this.

Yu Xinghai didn’t mention a word about Ye Chen to keep his promise.

But Old Man Ye was very sensible. Even though Ye Lan deserved to be hacked to pieces because of what he did, he wouldn’t go so far as to disturb Yu Xinghai. E2 Wke

The old man unexpectedly took the matter up himself because it could be said that there was a certain reason for him to do so.

He suddenly thought of Ye Chen. This investigation has revealed the whole truth.

Ye Lan actually wanted to kill Ye Chen!

  hmF1ZM

Old Man Ye said to Ye Chen, “It was Grandpa’s fault…”

Ye Chen felt deeply distressed. He promptly said, “How could I blame Grandpa for this? This has nothing to do with Grandpa…this is…”

The old man seemed to have grown older for a split second when he said, “Without Ren Jing, you would have died… It’s my fault, everything is my fault!” As he finished his words, tears began to well up in his eyes.

Ye Chen immediately hugged his grandfather, then repeatedly said, “Please don’t say that, please don’t think like that. It was me who was careless, I…” faiCVS

Father Ye and Mother Ye also pondered over his words.

Died… He would have died…

Could they imagine that?

Without Ren Jing, Ye Chen would have died a month ago. TNwn3e

If their only child whom they loved dearly from the bottom of their hearts had died…

How could this family go on? How were they supposed to continue to live?

By saving Ye Chen, Ren Jing had also saved them.

  obl2rz

At this moment, they couldn’t calm themselves down. Not even Old Man Ye and Father Ye could control their moods.

They didn’t dare to think deeper about it. When they did so, all they could conjure up was a deep abyss which incessantly invoked a lingering fear in people.

Ye Chen felt so devastatingly distressed that he was choking with emotion as he said, “It’s alright, everything’s already alright… I’m fine, everyone’s fine.”

Indeed, everything and everyone was alright. 6t3HI7

The nightmares didn’t come to haunt them.

Chrysanthemum Garden.

It took a long time before the whole family calmed down.

Looking at the time, Mother Ye said, “It’s almost time to have a meal… Chen Chen, you should bring Ren Jing back, we’ll…” o1xLSD

Ye Chen immediately said, “I have to ask you to help me keep this a secret.”

No one responded.

Ye Chen had no choice but to explain for a bit that he had decided to hide the truth from Ren Jing.

Everyone figured it out all at once. Undoubtedly…no matter how they saw it, it would be best to hide this. Ren Jing had suffered enough, he deserved a better life. F7s3Mu

Ye Chen said bashfully, “You don’t need to accept him so soon…let’s take it slowly…”

Father Ye and Mother Ye expressed that they were ‘under great pressure’.

Ye Chen said again, “It’s alright, I won’t bring him home for the time being. I still want to wait a little longer. I’ll bring him back when the time is right, then you could slowly accept him.” Q5d3yH

Mother Ye’s motherly love was filled to the brim. She kept on questioning Ye Chen closely again and again, “How long would it be? What about next week?”

Ye Chen, “…”

Father Ye said calmly, “How about next month?”

Ye Chen didn’t know whether to laugh or cry as he said, “…It should at least be in the next half a year!” 52jCg3

Mother Ye said, “Half a year? How could you two even live a happy life? Who will cook for you? It’s not good to keep eating outside everyday, it’s bad for your health!”

Ye Chen, “…” Shoot, I have an extremely bad premonition about this.

The author has something to say:

Changing the title of the previous chapter silently… 9zdEgD

I planned to hold my mouth for today, but in the end I have to go out temporarily…

Um, hold on. We can’t let Director Li cry until he passes out in the restroom, can’t we…

Diabetes mellitus (DM), commonly known as diabetes, is a group of metabolic disorders characterized by a high blood sugar level over a prolonged period of time. Symptoms often include frequent urination, increased thirst, and increased appetite. If left untreated, diabetes can cause many complications.

Translator's Note

A condition in which the force of the blood against the artery walls is too high. Usually, hypertension is defined as blood pressure above 140/90 and is considered severe if the pressure is above 180/120.
High blood pressure often has no symptoms. Over time, if untreated, it can cause health conditions, such as heart disease and stroke.
Eating a healthier diet with less salt, exercising regularly and taking medication can help lower blood pressure. (Source: Google. You may also read in Wikipedia about this or wherever might be your trustworthy source.)

Atherosclerosis is the build-up of fats, cholesterol and other substances in and on the artery walls. A build up of cholesterol plaque in the walls of arteries would cause obstruction of blood flow. Plaques may rupture, causing acute occlusion of the artery by clot.
Atherosclerosis often has no symptoms until a plaque ruptures or the build-up is severe enough to block blood flow.
A healthy diet and exercise can help. Treatments include medication, procedures to open blocked arteries and surgery. (Source: Google. You may also read in Wikipedia regarding this topic, or wherever is your trusty source.)

Warning: This T/N is going to be quite long because it’ll cover two topics at once, herniated cervical disc and herniated lumbar disc. Kindly skip through this if you’re not interested in these topics.

Cervical discs are the cushions between the vertebrae in the upper back and neck. Herniation of the disc occurs when the gelatinous inner disc material, the nucleus pulpous, ruptures or herniates, through the outer cervical disc wall.
A cervical herniated disc is caused by excessive stress being placed on the disc, whether as a result of
heavy lifting or other damaging motions. Pain and other symptoms can develop when the damaged disc pushes into the spinal canal or nerve roots. Cervical disc herniation is usually seen in 30- to 50-year-olds. It may be seen in patients in their 80s, but this is rare, as normal aging tends to dry out the disc, preventing rupture. AjlQd1

Your spine doctor will consider your medical history and symptoms and give you a physical examination, during which the doctor will look for limitations of movement in the spine, problems with balance, and signs of pain, as well as any loss of extremity reflexes, muscle weakness, sensory loss, or abnormal reflexes that may suggest spinal cord involvement. After a physical examination, your doctor can use a variety of tests to get a closer look, including X-rays, MRIs, CT scans, CT myelogram, or bone scans.
———
Disc herniation symptoms usually start for no apparent reason. Or they may occur when a person lifts something heavy and/or twists the lower back, motions that put added stress on the discs. Lumbar herniated discs are a widespread medical problem, most often affecting people age 35 to 50.

A tough outer ring called the annulus protects the gel-like interior of each disc, known as the nucleus pulposus.
Due to aging and general wear and tear, the discs lose some of the fluid that makes them pliable and spongy. As a result, the discs tend to become flatter and harder. This process—known as disc degeneration—starts fairly early in life, often showing up in imaging tests in early adulthood.
When pressure or stress is placed on the spine, the disc’s outer ring may bulge, crack, or tear. The result is shooting pains into the buttock and down the leg.

A person with a herniated disc may be told by the doctor that degenerative disc disease led to the lumbar herniated disc. This term can be alarming and misleading. Degenerative disc disease is not a progressive disease per se, and it does not always cause chronic or persistent problems.

Translator's Note

Gout is a form of arthritis characterized by severe pain, redness and tenderness in joints. Pain and inflammation occur when too much uric acid crystallizes and deposits in the joints.
Symptoms of gout include severe pain, redness and swelling in joints, often the big toe. Attacks can come suddenly, often at night. During an acute attack, anti-inflammatory medications can help relieve pain and shorten the length of the attack. Patients with chronic gout can use behavioral modification such as diet, exercise and decreased intake of alcohol to help minimize the frequency of attacks. Additionally, patients with chronic gout are often put on medications such as colchicine. (Source: Google. You could also read more in Wikipedia about this or visit your trustworthy sources.)

Translator's Note

In simpler terms, geriatric diseases are “age-related diseases”. Some examples are…well, the illnesses that Old Man Ye suffered are a few of them.

Translator's Note

This part is quite punny in the original Chinese. It’s quite similar with the “Death System” pun a few chapters back. If I had to translate this literally, it’s prolly something like “Old Man Ye was an old man after all”. But it doesn’t sound nice in English, so we changed them into “old hand”, which has the meaning it intended (a person with a lot of experience in something).

Translator's Note

This means “to begin to do or deal with something”.

Translator's Note

This phrase is used jocularly. Originally, it’s 压力山大 (pinyin; yālìshāndà), a pun on 亚历山大 (pinyin; Yàlìshāndà), which is Alexander or Alexandria (a town’s name).

  1. Ahhhh, it’s nice to see YC finally able to tell his fam the truth. They took is really well. LMAO @ that last part tho xD

Also, good that YL is dealt with, otherwise who knows what other things he might have tried.

    Thanks for the chapter! 🙂

    • Agreed! uwu Queen Mother is just so eager to hear RJ call her “mother” hehe

Yep! He barely appears in the story, but I’m glad Author-sama decides to “punish” him. Behave lor YL…

      Thank you for reading too, Phantom Shade-san~ (´。• ᵕ •。`) ♡

  2. Maybe it’s my bad memory but I don’t remember who Ye Lan is and what he has to do with Ye Chen not wanting to hit a kitten on the road? If someone can answer the first question at least I’ll be grateful.

    • Ye Lan barely appears in the story (and even if he did, he’s only mentioned) so it’s no wonder you don’t remember him~ He’s Ye Chen’s cousin who tried to kill Ye Chen through the attempted accidents (chapter 1 and chapter 33-34 iirc) because of a certain event when the two had the chance to have a chat (around chapter 61 for the full story if I’m not mistaken). I’m not quite sure about the kitten, but it might be Ye Lan who put it in the road? Since Ye Chen didn’t want to hit the kitten of course, he steered sharply (?). Also, it seems that Ye Lan did something to Ye Chen’s car that made it accelerates a lot more than it should be, which proceeds to the car crash…if I remember correctly. Hope that answered your questions! (o・ω・o) (man, I really need to re-read and re-translate the whole stuff…)
