Translator's Note

吃瓜群众 – Literally melon eating crowd, the chinese equivalent of eating popcorn or peanut gallery.

Translator's Note

Chinese is a tonal language, so Yu Qinghuan and “Yu Qinghuan” could actually be completely different characters even if the pinyin is similar. Here’s an example: 郁清欢 (Yù qīng huān) and 宇青缓 (Yǔ qīng huǎn). So what she meant was that the characters itself (not the pinyin)

Translator's Note

我掐指一算 A little hard to translate directly, but the context is that back in ancient times, there was the practice of divining/predicting events using your fingers. Something similar to astrology…? Here’s a link that can explain it better.

Translator's Note

楼上 Forum threads are known as towers/buildings on Chinese SNS, and each “floor” is just the comment/reply to the original post.

Translator's Note

Just for fun, but I am pretty sure this is a pun, because the yu from 郁闷 (Yù mèn) surprise surprise, is the same yu from Yu Qinghuan (郁清欢). Xuan says I’m overthinking it but AHHHHH no idea >:(

Translator's Note

八卦 (bā guà) Gossip, but can also refer to the eight trigrams (the ones used in divination).

Translator's Note

富二代 (fù èr dài) Literally rich second generation, refers to the children of entrepreneurs who became wealthy under Deng Xiaoping’s economic reforms in the 1980s.

郁清欢两个最大的爱好就是烹饪。It actually says “Yu Qinghuan’s two biggest hobbies were cooking.” That’s it. That’s the entire sentence. It’s probably missing something, but we’ll never know what his other hobby is… (Xuan: maybe it’s finding love).

Translator's Note

前呼后拥 It’s similar to having attendants surrounding you back in ancient days, where the front will shout/clear the way for you while the back protects you. Think of it as the modern day bodyguards and team members surrounding celebrities, very glorious and flashy.

Translator's Note

嘶(Sī) is a noise made when someone is in pain, like sssss while inhaling

Translator's Note

Not sure why it would tighten when he’s hungry…

Translator's Note

正想要把自己的口粮多回来- Interestingly, Zhao Qingyuan refers to his food as 口粮 (kǒu liáng) which means rations/provision. Kinda makes him seem like an animal trying to protect his food reserve… Also not sure, but I think there was a typo in the raws. 多 (duō) means more, but it’s probably meant to be 夺 (duó) which means to seize/take back with force.

Translator's Note

It actually sounds so much cuter and funnier in Chinese because author used repetition: 纷纷打了个哈哈,溜溜的跑远了。 But idk how to convey that in English orz
