In the middle of November, the sun would come up later and later in the morning. When Wen Ai woke up from his dreams, it was still dark outside his window. He methodically went about his morning routine before he picked up his backpack and prepared to go downstairs for breakfast.

When he passed the guest room, he heard snores coming from within. It was then that Wen Ai remembered; Jiang Cheng came for dinner last night and ended up sleeping over. Their families had known each other for a long time so this sort of thing happened a lot.  MUTBzI

Wen Ai walked in to wake him up. The sound of snoring became louder as the door was pushed open.

He approached the bedside and pushed Jiang Cheng. “Time to get up.”

Chrysanthemum Garden.

Jiang Cheng kept on snoring; he seemed to be sleeping even more deeply than before.

Wen Ai tugged on his blanket. “Get up, it’s not the weekend yet.” XT49vi

Without opening his eyes, Jiang Cheng snatched the blanket back, pulled it over his head, and rolled over to continue sleeping.

Wen Ai turned on all the lights in the room, opened a music app, set the volume to the maximum and blared Tao Ma Gan in Jiang Cheng’s ear.

T/N: 套马杆 (Tao Ma Gan), a well known song…from my grandma’s generation. Omg Wen Ai’s so cute hahahahaha.

Under the might of Tao Ma Gan, Jiang Cheng finally woke up.

Mrs. Zhao turned to pull out the chair beside hers and called Jiang Cheng over, “Cheng Cheng, hurry up. Finish your breakfast quickly so the two of you can go to school together.” e0m3aI

Jiang Cheng grinned. “Nah, I can just take a couple of buns and eat it on the way.”

Mrs. Zhao saw that Wen Ai had already cleaned his plate of food, so she went along with Jiang Cheng’s suggestion. She called over the servants to prepare a clean lunchbox before personally packing up some freshly steamed buns from the table for Jiang Cheng.

Mr. Zhao took a sip of his tea and patted Jiang Cheng’s shoulder. “Cheng Cheng, your auntie and I will be going overseas for a while. We’ll have to ask you to babysit our little Wen Ai over there.”

Jiang Cheng puffed out his chest and promised, “No problem! I’ve always taken care of him! Hey, how about Wen Ai move to my house and stay there for a while?” MPCtNA

Wen Ai overheard their conversation and immediately shook his head. “I’ll be fine staying here by myself.”

Or else I’ll go deaf when you and your shitty friends decide to throw a crazy party at your house.

They had two math classes back to back. It was quite a feat of concentration because sometimes even the time taken to pick up a dropped pencil was enough for the teacher to fill the blackboard with writing. Needless to say,  even a single moment’s distraction could derail the whole class and make one lose track of what the teacher was talking about.

Wen Ai never picked up his fallen pencils from the floor during math class, so he was always fully focused on what was happening at the front of the classroom.  4ZnBCw

However, the same thing couldn’t be said for Jiang Cheng who sat in front of Wen Ai. Jiang Cheng was always spaced out or sleeping during class. Today was an exception, though. The teenager spent an entire half of the class with his nose pressed into his phone. He didn’t raise his head at all, and from time to time, even swear words spewed out from his mouth.

The math teacher came up beside Jiang Cheng and looked at the screen of his phone over his shoulder. “Oh, trying to win red pockets from an online event, are we? Did you manage to win any?”

Jiang Cheng didn’t even bother raising his head. He raised a hand and flapped it in the air as if chasing away an annoying fly. “Stop talking! This young master hasn’t managed to win a single one yet, and he’s really frustrated!”

Amidst the laughter of the entire class, the math teacher’s face slowly turned purple.  HJAK0d

And just like that, Jiang Cheng took his position, standing right beside the garbage can at the corner of the classroom for the rest of math class.

It was only after the math teacher had hauled his stack of books and papers out of the classroom that Jiang Cheng finally returned to his seat, angrily kicking his chair leg before sitting down.

Each time Wen Ai thought about what had happened in class, he was very tempted to laugh at the situation. He was also curious, so he asked, “What exactly were you doing just now? What red pockets?”

Jiang Cheng took out a silver-white phone. Its screen showed a cute little fortune-cat game. “Just this. All you have to do is play games, and then you get rewarded with red pockets.” QCZ18X

Wen Ai leaned closer, pointed at the cute crystal stickers decorating the phone case, and asked Jiang Cheng, “You like this sort of thing?”

Jiang Cheng pocketed the phone awkwardly. “This is my girlfriend’s, I’m trying to win red pockets for her for Double Eleven.”

T/N: double eleven is Nov. 11, which is apparently a holiday in China that’s similar to Black Friday? But aside from being a shopping thing, Double Eleven is also ‘Single’s Day’…since 1111 = singles. (idk if that makes sense) Uapdf6

Wen Ai recalled the class beauty from next door, the girl that Jiang Cheng had pointed out to him last week. The girl was tall and absolutely gorgeous. Wen Ai would never have thought that Jiang Cheng could move on so fast.

He turned his head and looked to the side. Xu Chang Zhou sat at his desk, drawing impassively, the expression on his face as calm as ever. He was confused. Just like Jiang Cheng, everyone was naturally drawn to the things and the people they liked. So how was Xu Chang Zhou able to hide his secret love for the female lead for all those three years without anybody ever noticing his feelings?

Wen Ai turned back towards Jiang Cheng and continued chatting with him. “The highest cash-price in the red pockets game is 1000 dollars. Do you and your girlfriend really need money right now?” HQyuLj

Jiang Cheng’s head was lowered as he repeatedly tapped at the screen. “I also think this is pretty useless, but the lady said that the whole point is the sense of accomplishment that comes with winning a prize. She wants that sense of accomplishment, so now it’s up to this boyfriend to keep the lady happy.”

Wen Ai detected a hint of showing-off in Jiang Cheng’s tone, and was immediately at a loss for words. “Then someone should really give you a sticker with ‘world’s best boyfriend’ on it.”

Jiang Cheng flashed an arrogant, crooked grin. “Of course. When it comes to your significant other, the most important thing is proactiveness, and the second most important thing is to spoil them like no other. When you get a girlfriend later on and you don’t understand something, you can ask this big brother anything!”

Wen Ai: “Oh, then I’ll have to thank you in advance.” CXp0SY

Jiang Cheng’s voice was rather loud. Everyone around them could hear what he was saying. Xu Chang Zhou looked at his sketchbook, his hand unconsciously stilling as the words spun around in his mind: “The most important thing is proactiveness, and the second most important thing is to spoil them like no other.”

and that last line: “The most important thing is proactiveness, and the second most important thing is to spoil them like no other.”

seems like the ML has been enlightened…. I’m guessing his spoiling would end up making MC think he’d succeeded in his “big villain” act. (。•̀ᴗ-)✧ I mean, at least he(ML)’s making him (MC) happy, right?

  3. Thank you very much for these chapters! Looking forward to our Wei Ai absolutely misconstruing Chang Zhous proactiveness and spoiling uwu
