Translator's Note

18 layers of hell, also known as diyu. In Chinese, they are also known as the 18 stories of hell or 18 levels of hell~ Luo Jian is making a reference to that. Usually the 18 layers of hell are a place to be feared because souls who have committed sins are forcefully punished in many, many cruel ways. When I was young, my parents always liked to threaten me with them, and the silly me was so scared of lying to my parents because I wanted to sleep more and eat sweets. (Because the punishment for lying is you have to go through an endless cycle of someone pulling out your tongue!)  V3MGqu

Fun fact: when someone commits a sin or does something wrong, people of the older generations will curse them using it as well. E.g. “You killed him, you’re going to the 18 layers of hell when you die!” (Of course, it’d sound much smoother in Chinese.)

    • Should be the same Clown. Didn’t you see how much current Luo Jian had changed? That Clown definitely is the same Clown as this. It was just the teenager grew up, continuously trapped by secret chamber every 10 days and had to return to reality facing responsibilities like all other adult to make a living (even LJ continuously hopping over part time job). It isn’t surprising to see how different future Clown is. I bet even Duan Li had his own innocent phase.
