  4. Jing Chen who is flustered by Gu Huaiqing… 😂 I mean, it was quite obvious that this would be the outcome of their meeting, since they have opposite personalities. However, in terms of political intelligence, the second prince has found his peer.

    During the last chapters, I was wondering about the real condition of the Rui Wang Fei, because she did not appear very often and was said to be busy. However, it seems that she is truly unwell because of her own health and that Jing Chen will not need to do anything to be able to take a new first wife more suited to become an empress. At least, we won’t hate him for poisoning her or charging her with an invented crime in order to get rid of her.

    • I felt like something is wrong with the child. Knowing our empress won’t be her, I dare say she will do some mistakes; probably related to children, then punished (divorce or others).

  16. Ah the path to love will be a bit Rocky for those two but we know they will be together in the future. Hopefully Jing Chen does something about his wife before that happens, she worries me hopefully nothing bad happens.

  17. I’m not particularly fond of the way female characters are written in the story. Apart from MHZ’s mom and the assassin princess no women in the story has a likeable character… I hope they would do some changes in Rui Wang Fei’s character to make her good and competent, instead of simply replacing her for another meek and timid character.

    • Well you have to consider that the majority of the women we have seen so far are part of nobility or of high rankings positions so of course they would be arrogant and scheming (if not they wouldn’t last in their positions) so I’m not really surprised by these characters, on the contrary they are kind of amusing

    • TBH I feel like the reason most of the female characters in this novel are unlikeable is so that they “deserve” the hell that is the lives the author gave them? Like it was revealed in an author’s theater a while back that Jing Chen will end up married to “Empress Gu.” So basically the entire purpose of Rui Wang Fei and Jing Chen’s other concubines’ existence is to give Jing Chen enough children to inherit the throne and then conveniently die or do something bad that warrants being sent away so that he can sit on the throne and raise their kids with his “true love” instead of them. That sucks. A lot.

      I like this author’s novels a lot but I feel like they have a habit of putting female characters in positions where the only way to improve their quality of life is to scheme, gold dig, etc. and then mocking them for it. Like Jing Shao and Mu Hanzhang are looking down on Rui Wang Fei for being a mean “inner court lady” but what else is she even allowed to do. Neither of them would be happy if they had her life.

  22. Jing Chen and Gu Huaiqing is sus. Even Jing Shao picked that something is weird lol.

    And I really disliked Rui Wang Fei, since the very beginning where she wanted to barge to Jun Qing’s bedroom when he is sick, then putting wronged face like “Oh, sorry. Forgot your Wang Fei is a man”. Jing Chen probably sharp enough to discard her later. If not for Jun Qing, it is for his beloved didi. After all, I believe he cares about his didi more than his wife.

    Why do I think that Gu Huaiqing could be the Empress Gu that was introduced in notes earlier?
