The Emperor’s Favorite Imperial Concubine is an OCh3 - Slumber

Wen Mingyu bowed his head and munched in little bits, his two legs quivering compulsively, like a small animal being targeted by a savage beast. cO83jo

Halfway through his meal, Wen Mingyu choked on the overly quiet atmosphere and couldn’t help but glance up, only to meet eyes with the tyrant, who had clearly been watching him.

Wen Mingyu tried to shrink his head automatically, but the other party had seen him glance up and dive away too intentionally, so he had to grin charmingly and say, “Your Majesty, these are delicious; won’t you taste them?”

Mu Zhan, in contrast, scowled and gazed with contempt at the table of scrumptious food before saying irritatedly, “Eat yours.”

Wen Mingyu had the foresight to stay mum. He didn’t care if the tyrant ate or not; all he wanted was to be ignored and not stared at. He smiled and braced himself while he ate, attempting to fool himself into ignoring the stare. OhVzD9

The impact was small, but it was still helpful. Before he knew it, he had done the great majority of the dishes in what could be considered a blitz.

On the other hand, Mu Zhan, the lord of the palace, did hardly move his chopsticks much throughout the meal and quit after two bites. He kept staring at Wen Mingyu, as if he was studying something.

Mu Zhan raised his hand, curled his fingertips, and brought them to his nose, where he detected a mild fruity scent. It was pleasant and did not irritate him. This was the strange and familiar scent he got from touching Wen Mingyu’s face just now.

Mu Zhan’s eyes were lowly downcast, concealing his emotions and making it hard for anybody to see what was going on in his mind.

When people are freshly fed, their defenses are relaxed, and their IQ is slightly lower. This sentence is not entirely false.

Wen Mingyu had a somewhat bloated stomach, a satisfied expression, and a more comfortable attitude than when he initially entered the hall, until he looked up and saw Mu Zhan. He was paralyzed for a split second before his nerves stiffened up again.

“He said he didn’t want to eat, despite his ability to eat very well; one table of food was almost gone.”

Mu Zhan stared at him, his eyes faintly mocking. BGWMOg

Wen Mingyu wanted to detonate and flip the table upside down when he heard this. Didn’t this guy just tell him to just eat? He even urged him to finish eating, ordered him to shut up and keep eating, and now he believed he was eating too much?!

Wen Mingyu’s heart roared, but he smiled pleasantly outwardly with a crooked head and a perfectly innocuous countenance.

Mu Zhan’s face was impassive.

A eunuch, with a horsetail whisk in his hand, respectfully strode forward. After acquiring Mu Zhan’s authorization, he instructed the palace servants to retrieve the remainder of the meal. 1d0vdL

The palace servants soon filed out, with the Chief Steward walking at the end of the line.

Wen Mingyu peered towards the entrance, wanting to join them. Xyfcgo

Mu Zhan’s voice sounded bland. “What are you gazing at? Haven’t you had enough?”

Wen Mingyu turned back in a flash, raised his smiling face and shook his head, saying, “No, I was extremely full and ate a lot that I had not eaten before; I’m very happy. Thank you, Your Majesty, for the honor.”

Mu Zhan lazily hummed.

There was stillness in the room. It was so tranquil that it appeared creepy. 1dnPmg

Wen Mingyu gazed down, pondering what he could say to dodge the tyrant’s thunderbolt without boring him and having him not be tempted to slay him.

The back of his skull felt chilly, and his thoughts were racing. He made a mental note, glanced up, and was ready to say, “Your…”

Just as he spoke, he swallowed all the words that followed and magically transformed them into a quiet, breathy mumble.

For he saw the tyrant resting his chin with his eyes closed, asleep. PR1Y4r

What’s with the unannounced sleep?

Faced with the unforeseen image, Wen Mingyu was taken aback, yet his heart was also filled with frenzied relief. It was a good thing he was asleep, because he didn’t have to face that terrifying gaze and rack his brain to deal with it.

He smoothed his hand across his chest and took two deep breaths. It’s no surprise that there is a saying that being in the monarch’s company is tantamount to living with a tiger. When confronted by the emperor, the psychological strain was intense, and even if he was not slain, he would die young from fear.

He sat still on the seat for a moment before returning his gaze to Mu Zhan, who appeared to be sleeping soundly. So, was he… free to leave? After all, you can’t disturb the tyrant’s slumber, no? dLG3 g

Wen Mingyu hesitated for a few seconds before rising. He moved with caution in case he made a loud noise and woke up the tyrant.

He didn’t feel anything when he was seated. As he got up, however, his legs were as soft as boiled noodles, and he almost hurled himself down the floor. Fortunately, he was extremely slow to rise and had enough time to react and remain still without making a sound. But he still moved his head to see if Mu Zhan had opened his eyes.

That was a close call.

Wen Mingyu exhaled quietly, turned around, and continued to trudge towards the entrance, sluggishly trudging like an 80-year-old man with lame legs, step by step. 8lJhe2

As he saw the entrance drawing closer and closer, the first ray of hope was right under his nose…

Behind him, he heard a low, raspy voice.

“Where would you like to go?”

Wen Mingyu, the sly dog, instantaneously froze into a stone statue. His head erupted, his scalp burst, his cold hair sprang up, his heart ceased beating, and—he lacked the guts to turn back. Vz73ud

Mu Zhan sat motionless, save that his eyes opened at some point and his perfunctory stare landed on Wen Mingyu’s back, locking the person in place.

“Has this one granted you permission to leave? Return.”

Chrysanthemum Garden.

With his peremptory tone of order, Wen Mingyu gave a jolt and shuddered. He rushed back to the stool at breakneck speed, sitting down on his buttocks and placing both hands on his knees, sitting docilely.

The attitude was as meek and innocuous as it could be. McI1ud

“I did not go without first obtaining authorization. I just noticed Your Majesty was sleeping and was concerned that he may have acquired a cold, so I was planning to ask the Head Steward for a blanket.”

The pitch-black, round eyes blinked twice, limpid and unsullied, as if they had never lied.

Mu Zhan seemed unimpressed; he swept a glance at him before closing his eyes again, clearly bent on returning to sleep.

Wen Mingyu: “…?” Jy0KAF

So, what’s the point of having him around? Is the tyrant a three-year-old child who needs someone by his side in his napping time?

As soon as he moved, Mu Zhan sensed it and awoke with his eyes wide. Where could he, Wen Mingyu, have the courage to move. Therefore, he could only exist as a mascot. Bored and tired of doing nothing, he gazed around at the magnificent and ornate furnishings, then at the sleeping ruler. After a brief moment of watching, he averted his gaze and bowed down, pinching his fingers for fun.

Wen Mingyu’s eyelids were battling after an unknown amount of time. He was ready to fall asleep with his head lolling when someone strolled in.

Wen Mingyu glanced up sharply and saw the eunuch holding the horsetail whisk in his hand. QRn2gm

The other person appeared astonished, and his feet lurched as he met his gaze.

Zhao Dequan, the Head Steward, was uneasy and had come to inspect since he had not received a summon from His Majesty. He did not, however, anticipate His Majesty’s falling asleep. He couldn’t help but show a surprised face.

Then, locking eyes with Wen Mingyu once more, he lowered his head in salute and arched his back as he retreated tacitly.

Wen Mingyu: “……” 4u9y7U

How refreshing it was to experience being left behind once more.

Mu Zhan eventually awoke from his slumber after yet another good hour. When he opened his eyes, he caught sight of Wen Mingyu, waiting aside. Without saying anything, he merely waved his hand and threw him out.

Hence, Wen Mingyu arrived at his dwelling without a scratch, only a fright.

San Xi was in doubt yet thrilled to see him again. The person was so elated and emotional that his eyes were red and he was on the verge of crying. 3IvDHu

“It’s wonderful that Gongzi is all right! What is His Majesty asking you to go over there for?”

Wen Mingyu seemed to be in a stupor, as if he was dreaming that he had miraculously survived his meeting with the tyrant unscathed. He answered San Xi, bewildered.

Chrysanthemum Garden.

“I seem to have…just gone for a meal?”

And he ate the entire table, more than the tyrant did, and unceremoniously ended up finishing the tyrant’s share, too. eQArHU

San Xi: “…???”

ChiFu: Surprised Pikachu face.

  1. I usually see used “Zhen” like “Zhen didn’t agree do that” but sometimes it’s Gu so I don’t know in the end sigh

      • It’s European thing. Used by Kings and Queens, but only in some regions and not by everyone. Our ‘We’ quite different from their ‘We’, so I’m not sure if we can use it in translation. But yes, it’s closest word from our culture

    • From what I know (knowledge from reading ancient times novel), Zhen is for the Emperor to refer to himself, while “Gu” is more like for the Crown Prince. The Empress would be “bengong”… and with this, my knowledge about this topic is complete 😮

  2. I like thing with two paragraphs from last chapter. It helps a lot with current password thing~

And thanks for the chapter ~

  3. Hope WMY doesn’t get indigestion XD About Emperors, I mostly see ‘Zhen’ but also ‘𝙒𝙚’ or ‘𝙄’ (usually in bold text) ^^

Thank You for the new chapter ❤ヾ(๑❛ ▿ ◠๑ )

  4. ahhh here I am.. as if I didnt have enough to read QAQ

but ABO setting? rabbit/dragon pairing? Count me in!thanks for the chapter <3

  5. That was a good description of the fight or flight feeling when you live with someone who’s unpredictable. I wondered if the emperor doesn’t usually sleep or just wouldn’t normally sleep in front of someone else outside of the bedroom.
