The Emperor’s Favorite Imperial Concubine is an OCh4 - Mascot

After talking with San Xi for a while, Wen Mingyu waved his hand and made it known to him that he needed to take a break. He approached the bed and jumped on it. pkIV7M

The whole person dissolved into the plush brocade quilt, as though they were resting on clouds.

He returned safely, although his legs were still a little unsteady.

The tyrant’s aura was too terrifying; it was much more fierce than any other Alpha he had ever encountered. If such a person were to be placed in the interstellar era, he would at least be a marshal.

He was blessed enough to be unharmed today, but who can predict what will happen the next time? He genuinely didn’t want to run into the tyrant again. olUF0Y

Wen Mingyu rose from his bed and knelt down. His hands were clasped together in a reverent prayer. He sincerely closed his eyes in the expectation that his prayers would be heard by the heavens.

Alas, regrettable it was, because it was clear that the heavens paid no heed to his plea.

The tyrant summoned him again after two days.

In the Imperial Study, there was only Mu Zhan, who was evaluating a memorial and even Zhao Dequan, the Chief Steward, joined the rest of the palace servants outside the entryway.

The setting was eerily calm.

It appeared as though there was no live soul present, only a chilly, lifeless silence.

In the past, he had desired such unmanned solitude. He was irritated by the incessant noise, which only made his headache marginally better if he executed someone. Now, though, he was abruptly disturbed for no apparent reason. The gray, unsettling stillness was almost too much for him to bear.

He wanted a glimpse of some vivid hues. wvXeGO

—breathing into this pure darkness.

Inexplicably, he remembered someone’s face with a bright smile—the kind eyes and brows, the innocent naivety, the purity that was obvious at first glance. It was so exquisite that it gave birth to an unpleasant desire to corrupt and pollute it.

Beautiful things were very fragile; the slightest pressure applied to the fingers when they were grouped together may leave light finger traces on that delicate, lovely swan’s neck, which was extremely breakable.

Additionally, he noticed a subtle fruity scent that was fresh and sweet, warm and welcoming. That peculiar nostalgia expanded like a soulful, peaceful melody in his heart. He had unintentionally closed his head and slept well as a result. hyuLok

Mu Zhan’s fingers softly snapped the desk while slightly hooked, making a sharp sound that was heard slowly, once, and twice. His lidded eyes were set downward as if he were staring at the memorial on the table, yet they were lifeless and hollow, devoid of any sign of human life.

Mu Zhan scowled while waiting, growing increasingly agitated and angry. The memorials become even more difficult to read. When he eventually lost patience, he rose up and made long strides. The hem of his robe was raised by a piercingly cold breeze.

Wen Mingyu showed up right then. hfHWMx

Unintentionally, the two young boys met each other’s gaze.

Wen Mingyu was taken aback by his appearance and momentarily stood still. He then smiled brightly and said “Your Majesty” with a clear voice.

He seemed to be so eager to meet Mu Zhan.

When the familiar scent was softly cradled by the wind, Mu Zhan’s heart, which was full of anger and restlessness, gradually sank to rest. 8iJKvC

Wen Mingyu maintained a sweet smile on the outside while being deeply troubled within, then slowly walked with the tyrant inside the Imperial Study.

In the eerie silence, the palace servants remained isolated outside the entryway.

Wen Mingyu’s heart was racing quickly when it suddenly beat even faster, making him almost forget to breathe.

Because the tyrant commanded, “Come here,” in a sulky voice, with the eyes of a ferocious animal stalking its prey. NBO4d0

Wen Mingyu walked over in a rigid manner, obediently doing what his boss had said, but his legs were trembling.

Standing before him, he maintained a focused gaze on Mu Zhan while acting innocent and well-behaved. When he saw Mu Zhan extend his hand in his direction, he didn’t avoid it. He struggled against the impulse to shut his eyes and flee.

Of course, he would have worried that the tyrant would choke him. However, any sly movement was more likely to cause problems. The phony road up front would also be dismantled. More critically, he detected no intention to harm.

Mu Zhan’s hand rested atop his head, and then, with a clumsy and somehow sloppy motion, he stroked his hair. 7T4V5v

It was the right bet.

He exhaled a secret sigh of relief.

But how is this a bit like… him petting a puppy?

Wen Mingyu was perplexed, but he was also a bit itchy from the minor sensations from what he perceived as gentle motions on his head. His natural squirming inclinations to rub against Mu Zhan’s hand were already eager to make trouble. z5qVXT

He made an effort to restrain himself, though, and let Mu Zhan rub his head.

Fortunately, Mu Zhan merely lightly touched him before ceasing and returning to his set to resume his official responsibilities. On the other hand, Wen Mingyu was set up to sit on a stool on the sidelines.

After the afternoon was through, he ate supper with the tyrant and then went back to his dwelling, gripping his swollen stomach.

Wen Mingyu: “…???” ONGjRg

There was a persistent sense that something was amiss.

Following that, the tyrant would frequently summon him. Wen Mingyu’s heart pounded like a drum with each call, as if he were walking a tightrope over a sheer precipice.

However, it must be acknowledged that people were incredibly adaptive and receptive. Therefore, it was not strange that he became indifferent to it.

In the Imperial Study. RQu 5h

The tyrant was grading a memorial while he, a good mascot, was once again seated in the background.

He truly had no idea why the tyrant was keen on summoning him over so consistently. Was it because he was handsome, which made the tyrant feel better when he saw him?

He battled the temptation to yawn, but he was just sitting there, incredibly bored

While supporting his chin on both hands, he idly counted the grids on the door. O7rRd0

As he counted his way through, his line of sight, as they shifted to the side, unintentionally rested on Mu Zhan.

After realizing this, he was ready to divert his eyes when Mu Zhan caught on and cocked his head towards him.

After a brief moment of shock, Wen Mingyu grins as sweetly as honey. He cocked his head, cupping his face with his palms and bursting into a bloom, as though he hadn’t unintentionally glanced over but rather relished staring at Mu Zhan.

“Your Majesty, as majestic and distinguished as ever, has an air that is unequaled by anybody else.” PjD4Vm

When Mu Zhan heard this, he had a cheerless expression on his face and reacted as though Wen Mingyu had just let out a fart.

“You think it’s dull?”

The curve of Wen Mingyu’s eyebrow twitched. He shook his head solemnly. “No, it is a privilege to observe from the sidelines while His Majesty gives the memorial his official seal of approval.”

When he spoke, Mu Zhan blatantly disregarded him and said, “Zhao Dequan, carry a plate of grapes to him.” P9JIy4

Wen Mingyu became motionless… Is there still such a wonderful thing?

Afterwards, when the Chief Steward fetched a plate of grapes to Wen Mingyu and set it in front of him, Mu Zhan instructed, “Peel the grapes’ skin; this one will eat them later.”

Wen Mingyu’s smile faltered, so the intention was to find something for him to do. What a fine emperor who made full use of his resources, not allowing even a single laborer to go to waste.

Good bah. In the palace, where there was food and lodging, grapes should be peeled. tzyoNj

Wen Mingyu complied obediently, took a grape, and started to toil for the emperor.

Grape peeling could be a little challenging. The pulp of a grape can easily get hollowed out if too much power is applied too quickly, which can be unsightly. Because they hated peeling them, some individuals were too indolent to consume them.

Wen Mingyu, however, was patient and took his time with everything. He handled it with great care and tenderness, peeling them deliberately and slowly. The grape pulp was undamaged despite the thin peel being pulled off, revealing a sphere that was transparent and particularly pleasing to the eye.

As he carefully peeled them, the grapes piled up on another spotless porcelain plate like exquisite gems with a glossy tint. 2VfanK

The only problematic aspect of this task was that you could only gaze at them, not eat them.

Each of them was of the finest quality and had been meticulously chosen. Juicy and sweet, they looked delectable and kept luring people in.

Then, Wen Mingyu became entranced and sneaked in several gulps with his distressed eyes.

Want to eat so badly… v7Wnj0

He eyed the grapes with eyes that were nearly green.

He was about halfway through peeling the grapes when a sudden, unexpected, loud crash was heard next to him. Wen Mingyu was so surprised that his fingers trembled and the grape he was holding fell to the ground, rolling away in a bone-crunching motion.

  1. I always eat unpeeled grapes. That’s just how it was done in my house. Never understood why anyone would peel them.

    • It’s the same in my household, too! In my case, it’s the satisfaction of seeing the end result after you peeled it (≧▽≦) but it’s tiring after so many times… you can try it if you are curious of the feeling~ <33

  2. Mu Zhan doesn’t seem to know he’s an alpha but he’s sure got the instincts! Which leads to Wen Mingyu just sitting around unable to do anything for hours, I’ve never seen someone peel a grape but I’d still be tempted to give it a shot rather than stare at a wall haha

Thank you so much for translating! <3

  3. Thanks for the chapter! I usually eat my grapes with the skins, but once I ended up with grapes with really thick nasty skins and had to peel them…. It was gross. I think modern grapes have been modified to have thinner skins so we don’t need to peel them…

  4. I used to laugh at the “Peel me a grape!” Cliche that was used to point out how spoiled someone could be, but where I live, the grapes our elders grow are sour with tough bluish purple skins. My grandmothers would put the leaves in the jars when they made pickles. I can’t believe he dropped the peeled grapes lol but I like that he was game to peel them and recognized that the emperor was keeping him occupied.
