The Emperor’s Favorite Imperial Concubine is an OCh11 - Settle Accounts

[unedited]

Mu Zhan arrived out of nowhere, his voice icy and solemn. Madam Hou went pale and broke in cold sweat in an instant. She didn’t expect Mu Zhan to come. She wanted to slap herself for the words she had just shouted on the spur of the moment. Trembling, she didn’t even dare to lift her head as she hurried down the stool, knelt down and saluted. afAPT7

“The minister’s wife kowtowed before His Majesty and begged for forgiveness… This subject had no issues and simply chatted with Yuyu, because I was worried and a bit anxious. Yuyu is the minister and wife’s son, and naturally, this subject is full of hope that he is well……“

Madame Hou’s voice was wavering and she was shaking. She was unable to communicate well and her words were not properly conveyed, she could only resort to dull and dry sophistry.

But she had no idea that the shielded Wen Mingyu was in no better mood than her. When Mu Zhan arrived, his scalp was fried in a heartbeat, and the stool under his ass seemed to have needles, causing him to leap to his feet on the spot and spin around to flee. Where was the feeling of ruthlessness he showed when facing Madam Hou just now.

F*ck my life! The Dog Emperor had come to settle old grudges with him! XJlHG5

In his mind, Wen Mingyu issued a harsh-splitting alarm. He only had this thought in his head, but as soon as he moved, Mu Zhan walked two steps behind him, pressing his shoulders with his hands, and preventing him from moving.

A chilling voice rang out overhead.

“However, what I heard doesn’t seem to be like this,” Mu Zhan had an arc at the corner of his mouth, but it was even worse than when he didn’t, “How dare you withhold the truth from the monarch?”

Madame Hou was out of breath and on the verge of passing out when a major crime came down from above. She struggled to deny it, almost collapsing to the ground, entirely losing the momentum that she had built up until now.

Madame Hou shivered further as Mu Zhan ordered the palace servants to repeat what she had just said to Wen Mingyu, and the more they spoke, the more she trembled.

“It reminds this one that Hou Guangyang and the people under him made a lot of frequent mistakes during work. It appears that they are older and a bit confused. It’s time for him to withdraw from his post. This one looks at the younger generation and feels that they should not feel too much burden. Since they can’t afford the title, it’s more appropriate to take it back, and give them a chance to temper themselves.”

With just a couple of sentences, as light as a feather, the official post of Hou Guangyang was abolished, as well as their title. As soon as Hou Guangyang’s rank fell, his family was thrown out of the aristocratic circle, becoming common people, a blow that could not be regarded as little.

Madam Hou was absolutely lifeless; her three hun and seven po appear to have left her body. She had no idea how to return to the palace once, was unable to persuade the son of the concubine to seek benefits for the family’s good, and now, as a result, she lost everything. 9pBcfX

She wanted to beg His Majesty to revoke the issued order, but the palace servants forcibly dragged her away, without giving her a chance to speak at all.

On her walk out of the palace, her mind went back to the images of a young, abused and oppressed Wen Mingyu, and then flashed to the recent change of Wen Mingyu, with a darling little Young Master appearance. The tyrant stood behind him with uncaring eyes, yet having a chilling sense of impending death.

She couldn’t help but wonder if, if she hadn’t previously instructed people to bully Wen Mingyu out of jealousy, would Wen Mingyu be supporting the Hou family now?

No! It definitely can’t be her. Otherwise, when she returns home with the news, everyone will point fingers at her, whether it’s Hou Ye or her children… yes! It’s not her fault; after all, didn’t Hou Ye despise this bastard child from the start? It’s natural to revile him for his lowly origins. The original identity of his biological mother, to give birth to the Hou bloodline, is her great honor; otherwise, how could this wild seed have the identity to be able to enter the palace to this day! Wen Mingyu should bear a debt of gratitude for their kindness! vsyL7G

And then there’s the other side.

Wen Mingyu was also having a difficult time, the whole person was jittery. Madam Hou was removed from the scene. Mu Zhan waved aside the palace servants, squeezed his shoulders, and forced him to turn around and face himself. 3pr5OP

Mu Zhan leaned in slightly and locked his eyes on him. Wen Mingyu could not see any joy and wrath in his gaze, yet he felt as though he had read a sentence from within.

It’s your turn to speak.

Wen Mingyu’s whole body suddenly straighten with such force that he almost cried out in a whimper. Despite the fact that death is at hand, his strong desire to live still made him want to dedicate all his energy to flutter twice and save himself. He didn’t want Mu Zhan to bring up the previous night. He first pulled the topic and said with a wry smile, “Did Your Majesty come here to help me on purpose? I’m truly so happy ah~”

Mu Zhan replied leisurely, “Part of the reason is, but it appears that you don’t require any assistance at all? Quite capable of talking, to put that woman into an infuriated state.” OQHmq8

Wen Mingyu feigns aggrieved. He lowered his eyes and whispered, “That’s just me putting up a front. She treated me badly since I was a child, and it cast a great shadow on me. I was scared when I saw her.”

“Is that so? It’s only proper to punish someone for their crimes; people who desire fame and fortune are most frightened of losing it once they have it, not to mention the fact that they thought of you as a shortcut.” Mu Zhan spoke with little emotion, and the hand resting on Wen Mingyu’s shoulder seemed to be idle. He unconsciously rubbed the side of Wen Mingyu’s neck, his strength as light as a delicate touch.

Wen Mingyu was itchy from the touch and he trembled for a moment, but he didn’t try to hide. It was unclear as to why Mu Zhan suddenly punished Hou Guangyang, but it did help him out, and in his heart, he felt a little refreshed.

Mu Zhan’s gaze returned to Wen Mingyu after a while, making his heart tighten. qH6rBQ

Sure enough, Mu Zhan still wanted to tackle it, “This is suitable as a matter of convenience, this one came here alone to tell you about last night….”

“Ah! Speaking of it, His Majesty must be hungry!” Wen Mingyu guessed what he was going to say. He didn’t want him to carry on like this, so he interrupted him in a fast and forcible manner. He took the dessert from the table and plugged Mu Zhan’s mouth, “This sweet-scented osmanthus cake is very delicious, I like it very much, really!”

Mu Zhan’s mouth was suddenly full of the fragrance of sweet flowers, and he couldn’t help but frown, but in the end, he didn’t spit it out. He had a complicated expression as he swallowed it. He then seized Wen Mingyu’s hand with one hand and clamped them together. Seeing that he still wanted to speak, he blocked his mouth with his other hand.

Mu Zhan smiled, “Is there anything else you want to say?” loMm4s

How can Wen Mingyu speak? He could only whimper inaudibly at best, it’s like he’s being kidnapped.

He was powerless to stop it. Mu Zhan asked flatly, “Do you recall how many times you scolded the Emperor a dog last time when you were intoxicated?

Wen Mingyu’s eyes darkened. He merely felt that the booze was evil and that heaven was going to kill him.

Maybe, it’s because of Wen Mingyu’s expression that was too raw and unlovable for Mu Zhan to handle, making him laugh. A smile makes its way to his lips, softening the original uncaring silhouette, and it made him appear to have become a little more gentle. But, Wen Mingyu was unaware of the change. QbXN7R

“What do you want to say?”

Wen Mingyu blinked twice, his brain whirled about, and he subconsciously opened his mouth. However, he forgot that Mu Zhan’s palm was still blocking his mouth. In this manner, the lips softly touched the palm, the exhaled breath fell over it, slightly moist, and there was an indescribable ambiguity.

Mu Zhan’s eyes became clouded, and he unconsciously hardened the hand that covers his mouth, before slowly loosening his hold. He took a seat next to him and waited for him to say something. It was a  type of calm that’s waiting for a meaningful sophomoric performance.

When Wen Mingyu deciphered the meaning of such a look, he felt a great deal of psychological pressure. aCxJEj

He took a deep breath and indulged in his sophistry, ignoring the subtle feeling just now. Mu Zhan had clearly heard his inebriated remarks, and there’s no way of denying it. He had no other option except to rescue it from this speech.

“Your Majesty, I absolutely didn’t mean to scold you. Dog, it’s the best friend of mankind, isn’t it? It’s smart and full of life, and has a remarkable number of advantages. Your Majesty is a wise monarch who is diligent, loves the common people, and has a heart that cherishes the world. When I say….. Dog Emperor (ultra low voice), I’m complimenting His Majesty, really.”

Wen Mingyu remarked, while discreetly stealing a glimpse at Mu Zhan’s reaction. Looking to see if he’s going to talk just as the exam was about to end. Anyhow, he needed to add a few extra lines, as if it could get him two more points. Wen Mingyu continued, “Dogs are not only friends, but also one’s family members. They accompany us throughout our lives, and they accompany us to meals and sleep anytime. I regard them as very special and particularly hold adoration towards them. My favorites are dogs, I like them very much, really.”

Again, he repeatedly stated and stressed the truth one after another. He cautiously gazed at Mu Zhan, for fear that Mu Zhan would not believe it. t Hg7L

Mu Zhan’s demeanor was uncertain. He calmly listened to his nonsense, and finally asked faintly, “So, you prefer to hold the dog together to sleep?”

Wen Mingyu was astonished with the unexpected question. He didn’t expect Mu Zhan to say such a thing after hearing it. His ability to grasp the root of a plant is truly amazing…..

Despite being a little bewildered and stunned, but nevertheless, he still nodded enthusiastically, “Yes! I like it a lot!”

Mu Zhan: “I see.” 2hPTnZ

Wen Mingyu’s top of the head raised a question mark, so to what conclusion had you arrived?

In the end, Wen Mingyu, too, couldn’t also figure out what Mu Zhan meant. However, scolding the emperor, he still survived and had a safe pass, thanks to extraordinary luck. Wen Mingyu felt a sigh of relief.

As if nothing had happened, everything went on as usual.

Wen Mingyu suddenly realized that he was also very talented in being hooked to his own lies. TRfU7H

After overcoming his life dilemma, he shared a meal with Mu Zhan before returning to his residence. Because he was relaxed and free of baggage, he just wanted to fly back to his bed, turn back into a drooping-eared rabbit, and roll all over the bed, feeling cool enough to fly.

San Xi waited for him to change into his clothes and retire to bed. With a broad smile on his face, he said, “Young Master, His Majesty specially came over today just to speak up for you, this slave is truly glad on behalf of you.”

Wen Mingyu considered it as well, but he believed Mu Zhan had no reason to do so. He attributed it more to Mu Zhan’s whims. After all, the tyrant was free to do as he pleased. Hou Guangyang may have gone too far and prompted the emperor to cut them, he must have jumped so high that his existence was felt. The tyrant was annoyed, and he dealt with it quickly.

Wen Mingyu nodded, “Well, I’m also quite pleased.” ZTljdo

Observing the misfortunes of obnoxious people puts one in a pleasant mood. Happiness is such a simple concept.

Once San Xi’s mood became excited, he rambled a bit, “It’s very wonderful that Young Master can be so smooth. Previously, this slave was concerned, His Majesty loathed the harem and it has always been empty. Maybe….”

Speaking of which, San Xi abruptly realized he had spoken the wrong thing. His face turned white, and he hastily shut up.

Wen Mingyu was just casually listening to the story when it came into a halt, and it piqued his interest. In fact, he’d never seem to hear anything about the Imperial harem’s concubines and beauties. He wondered, albeit instinctively, “Why?” jst7Za

San Xi shook his head hesitantly and wore a furtive expression.

Looking at him, Wen Mingyu had a conjecture that there must be some royal secrets inside the palace. People who know a lot of secrets tend to have shorter lives, so he stubbornly suppressed his curiosity, and told San Xi to pay more heed to his words this time, and speak more carefully in the future.

San Xi gave a firm nod, fearful that if he didn’t say something, it would make Wen Mingyu upset. He murmured, “It’s not that this slave is unwilling to speak, but it’s a taboo in the palace, and this slave doesn’t know much.”

Wen Mingyu promptly interrupted him, “I don’t want to know, actually.” ldauUA

San Xi then extinguished the candle flames and left the hall,  hoping that the Young Master had a sweet dream.

Tonight, Wen Mingyu slept soundly. The drooping-eared rabbit shrunk to the size of a palm, chirped his lips, and the short legs also stirred now and then. It was clear that he was having a fantastic time in his dream.

You have 3 hun(s)(三魂) and 7 po(s)(七魄) in you. Daoists fixed the number of hun souls at three and the number of po souls at seven. A newly deceased person may return (回魂) to his home at some nights, sometimes one week (頭七) after his death and the seven po would disappear one by one every 7 days after death.

  1. This is what we call ‘shoting yourself in the knee (with arrow XD)’~~

Thank You for the new chapters! And congratulations for 10 chapters! 💜

  2. It’s nice to see the original Wen Mingyu avenged! This Hou family is really too much, it was very satisfying to see Mu Zhan knock them down in a single shot haha. Wen Mingyu’s expounding on the virtue of dogs is cute, but why do I feel like Mu Zhan is going to force him to sleep with a dog in his bed soon…

Thank you so much for translating! <3

  3. It seems drastic and yet that Hou family could have caused problems for generations to come! San Xi is better off not spreading gossip considering how badly he’s been reading the situation between Wen Mingyu and the emperor 😬. Who knows what really happened vs the staff’s interpretation of it. Maybe his rut was involved and they smelled wrong?
