The Black Saint is My StalkerCh57 - I’ll be counting on you

With a crackling burst of divine power, the serpent was repelled by one fell slash. Graham expended his bullets, each shot echoing across the building. The serpent thrashed wildly and Han Li unleashed the remaining power that simmered within his barrier. A large bang rang out and the giant serpent was riddled with blood; the black fluid oozed and drizzled all over the ground. It had a particular tangy smell to it, like tar mixed with acid and rot.

But just as the wounds were opened, the serpent’s flesh would begin to mend, the serpent was well anew. ur8naC

Hah, of course, things wouldn’t be that easy.

Han Li pulled a face, something between a grimace and a smirk. The serpent coiled and struck out, shattering glass and knocking holes into the foundation of the building; wares that littered the stores scattered, reduced to bits of debris.

Chrysanthemum Garden.

Han Li searched for the head, crossing paths with Graham as he went. Their eyes met and words were left unsaid between them. Though the communication spell was left open and available, Han Li felt no need to access it. If there was one thing he and the Saint of Eternity were in sync with, it was their intentions in battle.

Han Li purposely rushed toward the serpent’s head, distracting it with flashy techniques and agile movements. It was a shame he no longer had any smoke bombs to work with but thus far, he was doing a decent job at distracting the enormous beast while Graham dealt real damage to its elongated body. K1QoNm

Seoyun watched from the second floor, after taking advantage to slip upstairs unnoticed. She was exhausted, not necessarily physically but spiritually. It wasn’t an exaggeration to say that she had thrown all her aces into the previous battle and with barely a few hours to recover and no sleep to supplement her rest. Exhaustion was inevitable, even when she couldn’t afford it.

Still, Seoyun had to persevere and watched the battle unfold from above. Her exorcism powers were severely limited but Seoyun might still be able to divine something from their foe. She could locate the heart of the demon because she was certain that this creature was either a mere servant of the demon lord, or a shell that she had donned to recover her strengths. Demon lords were not usually this sluggish or stupid and something about the beast didn’t seem quite right.

She stood against the railing, balancing despite the endless shaking and rumbling that assaulted the entire building. Although the structure might collapse at any given moment, Seoyun showed no signs of concern as she drew in a deep breath, her eyes falling close. The bright light at her brow appeared once more, though this time it flickered, sometimes bright and other times dim.

The world focused, her vision tunneling and soon she was seeing the demonic serpent in ways she couldn’t before. She saw the waves of miasma and the flow of the demonic energy that coursed through its body. A dark, vague shape was discerned in the pit of the serpent’s belly, like a black splotch created by a tumor on an x-ray. She knew instantly that there was something odd gathered there and was quick to broadcast it in the communication spell.

‘Just above the navel, there’s an odd knot of miasma there.’

‘On it,’ came Graham’s voice sharp and crisp.

Seoyun snapped out of her higher vision quickly, the light at her brow extinguishing as the hairs on her nape stood up. And in good time as well. As she flinched, a black snake shot towards her heel, its sharp fangs extended with venom dripping. If she had been even a second too late, she’d be twitching on the ground and foaming at the mouth from its venom.

‘Commander! What are you—’ Han Li flinched up, eyes going wide with surprise as his focus broke for just a second. That was enough for Han Li to trip over his own two feet, failing to completely dodge out of the way when the snake came upon him, its massive head coming in like a battering ram and flung him off his feet.

Graham said nothing but he did look up momentarily before returning to his task. Clarent was driven into the serpent’s belly in one swift motion, all the way down to the hilt. Muscles twitched violently while he dispersed a concentrated burst of holy power.

He felt it before it happened. B6pngl

‘Get back.’ Graham warned, drawing his blade out just as quickly as he had stabbed it in. He leaped away, grabbing a stumbling Seoyun as a powerful surge of miasma erupted from the wound that he carved into the snake.

He instinctively reached up the earring that hung from his ear, only to recall that they still had the normal communication spell in play.

‘Han Li.’

‘What the fuck!?’ Came the reply and Graham found that he was oddly relieved. At least Han Li was alright. He acquainted the feeling with the fact that he had no more minutes to spare. Time Record needed an extended period of rest before Graham was able to access it again; the fabrics of time would not bend to his will so frivolously after all. There was only so much he could do. The serpent thrashed and twitched but it did not chase after them anymore and instead spewed stifling miasma so thick that it was beginning to cloud their vision.

Graham’s voice retained an air of calm that Seoyun could help but envy, ‘Seoyun. Can you deal with some of this miasma?’

Story translated by Chrysanthemum Garden.

‘I can—’ But the way her voice strained was telling.

Graham sighed, ‘Never mind.’ Gjmoe1

‘I—” Seoyun began but she was so ruefully interrupted.

‘Han Li. Stand by until I disperse some of the miasma, do not get caught in the blast.’

‘Got it.’

And that was all Graham needed to call forth his divine power. Light crowned his head like a glowing halo, different from the dark disks that higher demons wore. hQgXkv

The miasma was blown back, the air cleared at least momentarily, giving Seoyun an opportunity to breathe.

Just then a sharpened claw descended on them; the figure moved so quickly it was like a darkened blur.

But those venom-filled claws failed to make contact; caught on the edge of Weian’s blade.

A distinctive red hue colored Han Li’s vision and his blood was singing in his veins. The demon lord looked down at him with her superior height, a cacophony of snakes hissed at him from her hair. oGgj4h

Fear welled up in Han Li’s gut and he was terrified of himself. This snake bitch was starting to piss him off and Han Li couldn’t tell if that was because of the situation or the nature of wrath that saturated his very being.

“Han Li,” Graham’s steady voice was next to him. Shots rang out from the Archivist, and the demon lord backed off, howling from bullet wounds. They stood at a standstill, but only for a moment.

“I’m fine,” Han Li took a deep breath. “I have…things under control…for now,” he admitted. When he spoke the edge of a fang caught on his lips.

But Graham made no comment about his appearance and said, “Alright. I’ll be counting on you. If it’s too much, let me know.” xyV2Lt

Han Li opened his mouth, the words slipped out before he even realized it, “You trust me.”

“Should I not?” Graham raised a brow.

Their conversation was cut short as the demon lord lunged. Han Li met those scale-coated arms with Weian while Graham swung down with Clarent’s lustrous blade.

Leaving only Seoyun who watched the scene. She had drawn her fan but for some reason for that her will had quieted, her desire to lead and maintain her facade went like embers in the rain. Extinguished. Seoyun took a long breath. SdvDT

Ah, it wasn’t time to think about the details. She held out her fan, calling forth wayward spirits to her aid. These low-ranking spirits labored away to disperse the dense shroud of miasma that persisted. The thick poison seemed to rise from the hollow shell of the black serpent that now lay unmoving amid the rubble.

It wasn’t much, but it was all she could do.

If she had to choose between cursing her own uselessness or maintaining her focus then she would choose the latter. She watched and concentrated even as her heart strained and her concerns grew.

Han Li and Graham’s married efforts bore fruit, their aggressive assault was driving the demon lord back. And though monstrosity roared, swiped, and whipped her muscled tail, her healing capabilities were beginning to strain against the persistent attack. xVpMvs

But such results came at a cost. Seoyun’s heart dropped, recognizing the bright flare of blood lust and frenzy that twinkled in Han Li’s eyes and the recklessness that slowly began to color his every move.

If Graham wasn’t going to say anything about it, then Seoyun was left with no choice.

‘Han Li, fall back!’

Han Li didn’t listen. yNAXfD
