The Black Saint is My StalkerCh125 - Looking forward

Edited by dreamandwonder

Fredrick Cooper was on the run. A stellar sorcerer was he, perhaps with a few screws loose in his head, he was. But that wasn’t because he was faulty, no siree. Rather, he had a demon or two or three living inside of his brain. ev uZQ

They were noisy, sure, but they were powerful things with energies vaster than any natural springs of mana a sorcerer of Fredrick’s caliber could ever hope to have access to.

And so he drew from said power. And just when a pesky hunter was about to spear him with some complicated exorcism contraption, the sorcerer launched himself into the air on a bolt of lightning. He cackled madly as insanity sank in, deeper and deeper.

Oh, Fredrick Cooper definitely felt invincible, yessiree. But he’d feel even more invincible if he just had a little more miasma to nibble on, yes. If he just had another demon living inside his head, yes.

Thus Fredrick Cooper rode his bolt of lightning across the sky. A hound-like nose and demonic sixth sense led right for the closest place to the quickest meal and was there a meal to be had indeed! A fat mid-tier beast was right there and oh, what a feast. 3NCAe7

Fredrick Cooper shot down like hellfire, a demonic blue glow split the night sky and he consumed the salamander-like thing in one critical blow—

Seiji had chosen a rather secure sniper’s hide, holed up beneath a fake cluster of shrubs and rows of carefully crafted warding spells and the like.

A sharpshooter’s eyes were generally superb. But Seiji seriously questioned his eyesight when he saw a blue bolt of lightning appear out of thin air in the sky. At its fore was a man— their target sorcerer and damn, Seiji was a good shot but not good enough to snatch something barreling down at the speed of sound.

Helpless he was, as he watched the entire mid-tier salamand— erm, demon go up in flames and Han Li with it.

Um. Was this going to pose a problem? Seiji thought with a balanced amount of concern and apathy. Though he would be a little sad if Han Li kicked the bucket, Seiji didn’t believe for a minute that the psychopath would die so easily.

‘Prince Li, you alive?’

‘Yeah,’ the reply was snappish. ‘This overgrown gecko doesn’t even have teeth but damn it’s slimy in here!’ BotX6i

Without hesitation, he pulled the trigger.

The bullet cracked through the air and found its target right between the sorcerer’s eyes. The sorcerer’s body snapped backward, twitching in death. But the bullet wound appeared to grow. Something akin to festering insects that squirmed inside of the sorcerer’s head and within a second, long, spindly things crept out of the bullet hole and soon the entire skull was split open. A black mass extended from the sorcerer’s head with an ear-piercing sound. At the very tip of the obsidian tentacle-like protrusion, a myriad of small glowing red dots sparkled. 7DWG0p

They veered directly at Seiji and it took him a split second to realize that they were eyes.

“What the—!” Seiji flinched, having been discovered. But before he could make a break for it, calm words slid through his mind.

‘Calm down, would you? We have this under control.’

It all happened so damned quickly. trCyF5

In an instant the giant demonic salamander collapsed dramatically, taking the new horrific monstrosity with it. The salamander demon began to dissipate into a wisp of smoke. The black fumes were sliced apart like parting waves, a flying sword aimed right for the tentacled beast. These tendrils extended from the blackened mass, catching Weian in its path. The monster wasted no time, sending a barrage of thin, black appendages toward the direction where Weian came.

Instead of striking the blade’s master, the tentacles were met with a barrier of lightning, sparks of purple erupting and scorching the offensive tendrils. A low chuckle arose from the storm of chaos, mocking and amused.

Han Li approached his opponent.

His opponent was a pathetic monstrosity, an amalgamation of demonic miasma, demon souls, and a sorcerer’s power. Perhaps terrifying to a regular human, to Han Li, it was no better than a cheap Frankenstein-like monster, some dollar store knockoff of a proper chimera. SeXmVK

“I can’t believe the Association got its hackles up for this pile of trash,” Han Li mused to himself. The familiar pull of wrath churned within his belly, a black third eye stared at the beast that stood before him.

Black tentacles retracted only to lunge again— but they stopped short of their target. When the cluster of red eyes fell upon Han Li’s dark gaze, the demonic monster froze. As still as a statue.

Privately, Han Li understood that the sorcerer was a high priority hunt because of the sheer number of casualties and property damage it had caused. But seeing this sorry creature before him only made Han Li want to roll his eyes. These creatures will only become more common with the Edelstein’s Barrier’s degrading state. There was no need to overreact to one or two sightings of these things and waste so much manpower.

Han Li could have easily handled this entire mission alone. xjdnRL

He would have gotten even more credits.

Another step forward. The monster shrank, as though trying to fit itself back into Fredrick’s parted skull.

“Don’t run,” Han Li cooed. He plucked Weian from the black tentacles that still held it in the air. It did not even bother fighting him. The corned beast already understood its fate. “Let’s make this quick and easy, ‘kay?”

Another step. This time the beast really did retreat back into the sorcerer’s skull. Fredrick Cooper’s corpse began to reanimate, his movements still and twitchy as he scuttled backward, away from the half-demon’s approach. uaqkIx

Han Li raised his sword. Desperate, the demon beast shot all of its tentacles at its executioner, a last attempt to fight. But neither of them anticipated the sharp crack of gunfire. A single yet immensely powerful bullet shot through Fredrick Cooper’s skull, etching a second entry wound after the first.

“…!”

That bastard Abe Seiji!

He was going to murder that damned scout! How dare he steal Han Li’s kill!? xyb7pV

Begrudgingly, Han Li shared the same flight back to New Lidway with Seiji. It was a small, private jet provided by the Association, and no other passengers were aboard.

Abe Seiji was different from when Han Li first met him. His hair was no longer dyed that bright orangey-red and instead, it was dark, with only hints of maroon. His attire was standard hunter’s wear; muted colors of greens, browns, and grey. Hunters nowadays began to wear dog tags, for death rates have skyrocketed since the Lyrchester Pillar’s collapse.

Han Li was paying the scout little mind, and instead was scowling at his phone on the Hunter’s Network App. His kill confirmation bonus was split in half, the other remaining of the credits undoubtedly were funneled to one Abe Seiji that sat on the other side of the aisle. quGX0n

But Seiji was the type of guy that couldn’t take a hint and eagerly chirped up, despite Han Li’s obvious disgruntled state. “By the way, Simone wants to do something for your birthday this year but she wanted me to ask if you’d be free. Heard you pulled a no-show last time.”

Han Li flinched at the mention of his birthday. If it wasn’t for Grams, he probably would have forgotten. “Don’t know, been busy.” Han Li frowned. “I’m not a really big birthday kind of guy, you know?”

“Evidently. But tell me seriously, Prince Li, when was the last time you saw your friends?”

That was none of Seiji’s business. Han Li wished to bite back. It was a little bit of a sore spot for him. At this point in time, Seiji probably communicated more with Simone than he did. He put his phone away and decidedly stared out the window and sighed. “I guess it’s been a while. But you know how it is with credits.” K2ZGn9

Seiji hummed and nodded. Getting from a B license to A was one of the roughest grinds without an Academy Hunter’s degree. It was designed in a way that encouraged professional hunters to go to the Academy either way. But neither Seiji nor Han Li were particularly inclined, choosing to go the hard way around the system.

“True. Credits are tough. But you should still take a break sometimes. Remind yourself that you’re still human.”

Those words were a bit harsh. Han Li cringed and spotted Seiji’s reflection on the plane’s window. The scout was unconcerned with the entire exchange, tapping about his phone screen on some sort of anime puzzle game.

So Han Li mimicked a similarly dismissive attitude, shrugging and lying back against his cushy seat. “Yeah, sure, sure. Don’t worry about me, my dude. And tell Simone I’ll see her whenever I run out of juice.” Q1xGbm

“Hm. Okay.” Seiji nodded and didn’t comment any further.

But both of them knew that Han Li, a half-demon, wasn’t going to ‘run out of juice’ so easily.

Whatever. Han Li closed his eyes and decided not to think about it too hard. His therapist could deal with his feelings later, no need to dig up thoughts that would only cause him anxiety and annoyance. So for now, he would just relax and look forward to his birthday.

And though he felt a little guilty for not planning anything with his friends, Han Li did, in fact, plan something with Graham. dDFwTo

He was looking forward to it.

    • Han Li such a bad ass! Love the Trojan Horse ambush of the corrupt sorcerer. Wtf is this demons living in the head?!? Does Han Li sport a man bun while fighting ?

Looking forward to Han Li birthday and Graham’s 🍆 gift that keeps giving

  2. So they have been in contact. I’m curious as to what’s changed. I feel like they have a friends-with-benefits thing going on. Except, Han Li is pining and Graham is Graham.

  3. I’m sorry, all the time I couldn’t stop imagining the “riding a lightning bolt” as anything else than the guy moving, at the sound speed, because he farted lightnint bolts…

  4. Certainly looking forward to Han Li’s plans with Graham. I like this badass Han Li, calm and steady hunter with a bit of amused mocking and a touch of own problems. I guess having his very own private saint helps. I’m glad he’s teamed up with Seiji, this guy is good. Is it a bud of a great team?

    Thank you for the chapter!!!
