Screaming Cycle (Infinite Flow)Ch23 - Hold On, It’s Almost Time.

The problem ended here. Everyone agreed that the only option was to pry open the door and descend into the elevator shaft.

Without further hesitation, Mo Tiangen and Ji Dong attempted to wrench open a small gap in the elevator door. After minutes of wrestling with the door had passed, they eventually separated a gap. Mo Tiangen grabbed the shovel and pushed the shovelhead into the gap.

“I hope this shovel is strong enough.”

As he spoke, he took it as a lever, clenched his teeth, and began to pry the door. dG1yiV

Fortunately, the shovel he grabbed at the Express Hotel’s cleaning room was dependable, and Teacher Dagen’s muscles weren’t lacking.

He actually pried open the old elevator door with a high-quality shovel after a few forceful pulls.

He inserted the shovelhead into the groove of the elevator door, jammed the door, and then carefully looked down into the elevator shaft.

“Fuck! Too heartwarming ah! So moved!”

4vrnl5

There was obvious excitement in Mo Tiangen’s voice.

“I’ve been unlucky for so long. I’m lucky this time!”

“The elevator car came to a halt above. We can climb directly to the bottom floor!”

Everyone was relieved when they heard him. l Ie3C

If it weren’t for the fortunate timing in this dire situation, the two girls would have hugged and cried on each other’s shoulders.

“So now the question comes, who will go down first?”

Mo Tiangen made a downward gesture and pointed to the elevator shaft that seemed to be bottomless.

This elevator was solely used for inspecting and maintaining the air-raid shelter, and it was only utilized during the yearly drills. It would not, of course, be intended to be more capacious. LEut4

The elevator shaft’s four sides were just approximately two meters long and broad. On the left wall, there was a tiny vertical ladder that could only fit one person, and two thick fluorescent tubes right opposite the ladder that should have been part of the same lighting system as the emergency indication in the corridor. Even though it  was dim, the lights were sufficient enough to allow people to see inside the elevator shaft.

“Brother Dagen, you go first!”

Ji Dong made his decision without hesitation. “I need you to unlock the bottom door first, otherwise we won’t be able to get out later!”

As soon as Mo Tiangen heard this, he felt it was correct, and he reached out his hand to grip the ladder and went into the elevator shaft. Qbw0dq

The nurse Zhang Ying was second, and her best friend Min Qingqing was third.

Although both girls were scared of heights, climbing an elevator shaft was child’s play compared to confronting monsters.

Next was Ren Jianmo.

Before Ren Jianmo went down, Ji Dong confirmed Ren Jianmo’s physical condition. After listening to him say “no problem”, he finally felt relieved. mu9VHt

While climbing down the shaft, Ren Jianmo told him, “Be careful.”

After he finished speaking, he lightly gripped Ji Dong’s wrist with his cold palm for a brief second, then turned his head, and climbed into the dim elevator shaft.

Ji Dong was the last to go down.

He had intended to take out the shovel that had clogged the door, but now he was in the elevator shaft and had to grasp the edge of the ladder with one hand no matter how hard he tried to pull out the shovel with the other hand for a long time, but he couldn’t. yFOXB1

“Fucking hell! Ji Dong, stop tossing!”

At this time, Mo Tiangen, the first to go down, had climbed more than half, and there were still a few meters left to climb to the bottom.

“Get down quickly, and if you delay any longer, those monsters will be back…”

He wasn’t sure of Teacher Dagen’s crow mouth constitution. The excellent ones didn’t work very well, but the terrible ones were always spot on—before he completed his sentence, Ji Dong heard a familiar and eerie howling bark in the deep hallway. DZmLIb

Ji Dong’s strong nerves, which he had honed for many years in professional events, once again saved his life at a vital moment.

Ji Dong didn’t know why he was so calm.

At that time, his mind appeared to have reached an empty and anomalous sober state, which caused him to entirely forget his fright and not recoil from it.

He pulled the gun from the gun pouch on his waist with his right hand wearing a half-finger glove, lifted it, and fired a steady shot at the pouncing canine-ape. UAKJTN

From the time he drew his gun to the time he fired the trigger, it was nearly done in an instant.

Ji Dong didn’t even aim; his shooting was totally instinctual.

When the bullet struck the canine-ape’s body, it let out a haunting wailing.

“Ahh ahhh!!” BcIuma

The two girls in the elevator shaft screamed at the same time.

The hairy creature plummeted, one of its limbs just grazing one of the girls’ backs, and landed with a “puff” at Mo Tiangen’s feet in the elevator shaft.

Ji Dong didn’t even get a chance to glance down.

The second canine-ape had leaped into the elevator shaft and was approaching him at a quicker and more dangerous angle than the first. ndlB6D

Ji Dong fired another shot without a second thought.

His bullet, however, did not strike the target this time.

There was a metallic smash against the elevator wall, preceded by a flurry of sparks.

Ji Dong fired the second and third bullets impulsively. ynuMHm

The second shot was also a miss, but the third one struck the canine-ape.

Unfortunately, he did not strike the critical parts of the target in a hurry. The canine-ape wailed, scaled the wall, and fled.

At this point, Mo Tiangen, who had arrived at the bottom of the elevator shaft, was sweating and attempting to pry open the door.

Teacher Dagen had to pry and chisel with a lot of keys because he didn’t have a shovel. It was difficult for him to open a gap, and then he tried all he could to pull and kick at the gap until he deformed the door. It was not easy for him to make a gap through which they could pass. Ce8PA3

“Quickly come down! Come on!”

Mo Tiangen squeezed through the crack in the door and shouted nervously to the people in the elevator shaft.

Outside the crack of the door was another corridor about ten meters long. At the end of the corridor was the gate to the air raid shelter.

The canine-ape monsters stopped for a while, as if they were aware that the people below had discovered some type of powerful weapon. 8dxaIR

Ji Dong didn’t dare to pause, instead seized this opportunity to urgently crawl down.

Now the two girls had squeezed out of the elevator shaft one after another, and Ren Jianmo was almost to the end.

Chrysanthemum Garden.

——Come on! Hurry up!

Ji Dong cheered himself desperately. wtDSf3

To climb the ladder, he couldn’t hold the gun all the time. He could only pray that the canine-apes would be scrupulous after losing a companion, and would not dare to attack before he climbed to the bottom of the well.

Ji Dong now understood what “seconds felt like years” meant.

He had the impression that he had climbed a 60-story ladder instead of a six-story ladder.

Ji Dong leaped forward in the final three meters. When he fell on the ground, he sprained his left ankle, causing him to cry out in agony. EgmFcv

The three canine-apes that had been lingering at the elevator shaft’s entrance immediately moved as if hearing Ji Dong’s cry was a signal.

They launched themselves into the elevator shaft like three arrows, seizing the fluorescent light.

These ape-like beasts climbed and sprang crosswise much faster than humans.

They had leaped half the way and were going to jump on Ji Dong in the blink of an eye. wcrNOu

Ji Dong didn’t care about the sprained ankle.

He plunged into the crack in the door pried open by Teacher Dagen and struggled to get out.

However, the next second, there was a sharp pain in his left calf.

A monster had caught up with him, opened its huge mouth full of razor-sharp fangs, and bit Ji Dong’s left leg, which was still in the elevator shaft. 8dQ2O3

It wasn’t until this point that Ji Dong realized, based on Teacher Dagen’s hypothesis of fire monsters, why this type of monster with a dog’s face and an ape’s body would exist in this city of ashes!

——This is because of the acidity of its saliva!!

Ji Dong felt his legs burning as he realized this, and the pain spread to his bone marrow. For a brief moment, he felt as though his lower leg, skin, meat, and bones were dissolving.

Without further delay, Ji Dong clenched his teeth, drew a pistol from his waist, and fired the canine-ape’s head that bit his leg. LMrU6w

The canine-ape was shot in the head and collapsed to the ground with a whining yelp.

Ji Dong desperately struggled to free himself from the dead dog’s sharp fangs, pulled the acid-dissolved leg, and tried to crawl into the hallway.

But his opponent was a canine-ape whose intelligence level was much higher than that of the previous monsters they had encountered.

They were well aware of “taking advantage of its prey’s injury to kill it”. GI6q5n

One of the monsters had stepped on its companion’s bloodied body as soon as Ji Dong rolled through the breach of the door. It followed Ji Dong out of the elevator shaft, and rushed towards the crawling Ji Dong.

Ji Dong couldn’t get up from the ground for a moment, so he had to fight back instinctively.

He grabbed his crossed bow bag and defended himself against the canine-ape’s onslaught. Then he lifted his gun and pulled the trigger, aiming at its head.

However, the gun produced a  “click,” sound FKuaSg

The gun had run out of bullets and nothing was fired.

“Fuck!”

Ji Dong’s eyes darkened. He barely kept himself from spitting out a mouthful of blood.

——Son of a bitch, so damn unlucky, fuck his whole entire family! That bastard’s gun actually ran out of bullets at this critical moment! iKDmPa

The next second, the canine-ape opened his mouth and bit him on the arm holding the gun.

“Ah ah ah ah!”

The razor-sharp tusks embedded deep in his flesh. The monster’s mouth was filled with a corrosive acid that burnt his bone and flesh. Ji Dong smelled a strong sour odor as well as a burning odor in the air.

At the moment of extreme pain, Ji Dong only felt that every cell of his body seemed to boil, and countless small currents converged and blended until they became a powerful current, which was transmitted from the spine to his arm bitten by canine-apes. Cb7ikt

With a “Zzzzzz” sound, his arm burst out a blue spark, the monster that bit him was hit by the electric current. The canine-ape flew backward with a loud thud, flipped his belly to the ground, foamed at the mouth, and his limbs twitched.

Ji Dong didn’t understand what had happened just now.

There was a large hole of blood in his forearm, and the skin around his arm was an acid-etched yellow-black color that seemed to be spreading the blistering by acid every second.

His eyes were squeezed in anguish, and he was on the verge of passing out. He gritted his teeth and battled with such intensity that he had no idea where it had come from. With his left hand, he drew a kitchen knife from his waist and plunged it into the throat of the creature, which was still clutching his forearm in its mouth, which jerked and fell to the ground. 3Ok0pW

But just then, a more intense pain came from his left shoulder.

The last and strongest canine-ape bit the Ji Dong’s shoulder deeply.

——It’s over…

This bite was very close to Ji Dong’s vital point, so close that the acidic saliva splashed from the monster’s mouth had burned patches on the side of the teenager’s neck. 35JGXj

Ji Dong couldn’t hold on anymore.

He opened his mouth, but he couldn’t even scream. He could only squeeze out a wheeze that sounded “huff” from his throat and fell back with his head up.

A pair of cold and beautiful hands caught him from behind.

Ji Dong heard Ren Jianmo’s low but clear voice ringing in his ear. There were only two short words, “Let go!” NbeEvi

The canine-ape that bit Ji Dong loosened its mouth the next second.

It retreated two steps blankly, its eyes were dull. It neither cried nor jumped, and sat down in place.

“It’s been a fucking unlucky day! How can Laozi die when the escape is near!”

Mo Tiangen caught up with the monster in one stride, grabbing the monster’s long neck against a dog’s head with his bare hands, heedless of the risks. He swung it around and smacked it against the wall with all his might. He crushed it numerous times before turning it into a muck of flesh. 1mE9sM

Before losing consciousness, Ji Dong saw that Mr. Dagen had left the body of the canine-ape, hurriedly picked him up, told him to “hold on” and staggered to the air raid shelter gate at the end of the corridor.

…… ……

……

Ji Dong didn’t know for how long he had been unconscious. cWZ2VR

When he regained a little consciousness, he just felt pain all over his body. The pain made him almost want to just close his eyes and pass out.

But numerous voices were calling his name.

“Yeah…”

Ji Dong reluctantly opened his eyes. FRyTAE

He found himself resting on Ren Jianmo’s thigh.

Mo Tiangen and Min Qingqing were crying and calling him to keep him from falling asleep. Zhang Ying, the female nurse, clenched her teeth and tried to press her hand against the bleeding wound on his shoulder, completely disregarding the strong acid that burned her palm.

——Am I… Dying?

Ji Dong’s lips opened a few times, but he couldn’t utter a sound. mHheft

At this moment, a pair of cold and moist hands held his blood-stained cheeks.

“Ji Dong, look at me.”

Ren Jianmo lowered his head, and the long sideburn hair slipped from his shoulder, and a strand fell to the corner of Ji Dong’s lips.

“Look into my eyes.” KSgQXC

His voice was hoarse, but the trailing tone was very soft, and it sounded like he was tired. “Hold on, it’s almost time.”

Ji Dong’s vision began to blur and became narrower and darker.

He felt cold and tired.

In his stupor, he could only hear Ren Jianmo’s voice saying to him, “Hold on for another minute.” 7CqSVK

“60, 59, 58, 57…”

“… 8, 7, 6… 3, 2, 1…”

Ji Dong closed his eyes.

  1. [Warning: enormous text ahead] Finishing this first arc and I have to say: I’m loving this story so f*cking much. It’s SO refreshing seeing actual good people in this genre, no backstab. I’m used to seeing so many fake, calculating and/or cold survivors in those game/horror stories. But here, our amazing teacher “saved” the protagonist without second intentions and even despite putting himself in danger against that dragonfly (aka golden coin). And didn’t abandon him all through the story, even on the verge of death. The two nurse girls, despite having the words “cannon fodder” written all over them, became important characters with personality and backstory. The protagonist was not the usually cold and indifferent kind, nor was the “someone please save me, I can’t do anything by myself” kind of character. He was really charismatic and, most of all, human . All the players were very human, and not just the twisted type of human. All they, as you said, had their time to shine. And I love it. The ML too, he was powerful (“don’t move”), but not the OP that doesn’t let the others act by themselves. I liked how the trio went back to the store to see if they could save someone, and not just assume that “that’s destiny, people are fated to die here” and keep going like they typically do. Anyway, there are a lot of elements I loved in this story, so thank you very much for bringing it here to us!
