Story of Another UsCh6 - Hero Complex

“Not really a fire… so it’s because of a person?” Sebi thoughtfully said.

Necomir nodded. “Yeah. There’s a girl in our year who transferred in because her fire abilities manifested just this year. She’s never caused any problems until now.” 1XTSCK

“Your ability is really handy,” Sebi nodded, impressed. “I’d like to be clairvoyant, too.”

“It’s not really all that good,” Necomir chuckled as the chute opened.

Sebi’s eyes widened as he finally got a glimpse of the outside world.

The skies were clear and blue, filled with fluffy white clouds. The Sol Star’s rays touched Sebi’s face in a harmless way similar to how Earth’s Sun used to do it, all warmth and gentleness that gave his body a sort of energizing feeling. The air was fresh and clean, filling his lungs up with oxygen. c3JiH2

Terra was so much like the Earth that Sebi read from the ancient books.

“Sebi, why are you crying?” came Necomir’s troubled voice.

When he looked up, Sebi saw Necomir’s face being lit up by the Sol Star’s light. It was a breath-taking view, but he wasn’t able to appreciate it as he responded to his question by reaching up to his face and felt wetness down his cheeks.

“I directly looked at the Sol Star, my eyes are sensitive,” Sebi reasoned as he bent his head down and wiped away the liquid with his sleeve. “It’s been so long… I’m happy to see the outside again.”

Necomir’s expression softened as he reached out and patted Sebi’s hair. He knew being lost in time due to coma hadn’t been as easy as Sebi made it out to be. Even if he wanted to look tough by making that sort of excuse, Necomir can see through him.

“Welcome back to the world, Sebi.”

The buildings of the school were slightly a bit like the ones in Sebi’s past life, but still very different. They were tall and very big, most are white in color and seem to radiate such a cool aura – cool in a way which is comfortable and free, not cold like the ones at the Eastern Earth Base, where it makes you feel trapped. For as far as Sebi could see, acres of land were dotted with such buildings.

After all, the Academy of New Humanitarian Science wasn’t just a school, it was also a research institute. It was one of the many bases for education and technological advancement in the Terra Star System. 4q6Nex

“Ah shit, the fire has eaten up two buildings,” he heard Necomir swear as he dragged him in a certain direction.

There were so many people, and the smell of fire permeated so strongly in every direction. Sebi could see two huge buildings burning in hellish flames that rose up to the sky. Feelings of panic and worry overwhelmed Sebi in every direction, and he had to deliberately block every mind out with much effort.

Necomir had dragged him close to an area near the firefighters. They saw a team come down, each of the ten men carrying twenty research personnel and teachers who were in the building.

“Is that all of them?” a firefighter asked. Smt9M

“Yes,” another said. “The fire user has been recovered as well, she is currently unconscious and in the custody of medical workers.”

“I haven’t seen her.  I’m really sorry, young man. There’s just too much going on,” the firefighter sighed as he wiped away the sweat from his brow. “She might have already left the building before we came if we confirm that there’s no one inside anymore.”

Necomir looked very disturbed as he swore under his breath while silently pleading Bellona to pick up his call. JPiL10

“Neco, who are you looking for?” Sebi asked, feeling worried himself as he watched the taller man.

“Chunmi Alvarez, our teammate,” he said through gritted teeth. “She uses the lab in that left building. I need to ask Bellona if she has seen her– hold up, where do you think are you going?!”

Sebi went up to the firefighter with Necomir following after him and said, “Sir, I’m a telepath. I can check if there’s someone inside. I just need a good distance.”

“No, you can’t!” Necomir quickly said as he grabbed his wrist, but Sebi pulled away. 9VIMgB

“It’s just going to be quick,” Sebi assured him. Necomir wanted to tell him off, but he had no energy to argue when he was insanely worried himself and wanted to do something but couldn’t.

The firefighter looked like he was hesitant in letting Sebi assist, but he eventually relented since he knew the Academy trained the finest batch of ability users.

He gestured at Sebi to follow him then took him to a safe area. The firefighter had the ability to make vortex fields, so even if Sebi thought it wasn’t needed, he protected him from the debris falling from the burning building by using the centrifugal force to push away the debris.

Breathing deeply, Sebi unraveled his telepathy to the highest he can go and swept it over the first building. He felt around, looking for a presence. His hands were starting to be sweaty, but it’s not from strain – it was from anxiousness and uncertainty. He didn’t know if he should be satisfied if he won’t be able to sense any living mind because that meant two things – one is that the buildings really are cleared out and the other is that the human brain has stopped functioning… Xv5cOK

“The first building is clear,” Sebi spoke with a shaky voice. He then focused on the second building, the one where Necomir pointed out was the location of Chunmi’s lab.

“Sir, can I get closer?” Sebi asked as he wiped his hands against his uniform. “I can’t get a good sweep of the eastside, it’s too far.”

The firefighter nodded and assisted him, carefully using his ability to block out the debris.

Sebi once again used his telepathy and hurriedly looked for even the lightest presence of brain activity. GW2VeR

And finally, after a while, he sensed a buzz. It was so weak, but it was there.

“We need to get her immediately!” Sebi exclaimed, eyes trained on a window leading into a room where he sensed the person was.

“Okay, we’re on it,” the firefighter spoke.

But that part of the building suddenly burst into more flames, alarming Sebi with how tight time was as he frantically pushed himself up into the air.  wsp8yi

He could hear the crowd yelling at him, telling him to get down. Necomir was the loudest, swearing as he demanded him to come back. Someone even manipulated a metal rope and hooked him with it, but Sebi only crunched it into bits.

The original Sebi of this universe was already powerful as a child, and with his abilities developing even during his coma, Sebi was more powerful than anyone could ever imagine.

He can do this.

Thrusting his hand out, Sebi broke the window and ripped the wall wide enough for his body to pass through. The flames seemed attracted to him, licking up to reach him but Sebi smartly protected himself by casting a block around his body, manipulating the flames into avoiding half a meter around his body. Sebi then entered the room.

There was little to no oxygen inside the room. He needed to be quick, or they would both perish.

The lab was thankfully one specializing in mechatronics, so chemicals weren’t present. Sebi blindly followed the light buzz of brain activity because there was simply no way of seeing with all the smoke and the flames.

There was a burst of flames from his right due to something flammable being consumed, throwing Sebi to the side a bit. He quickly recovered, unable to afford having his guard down or he’ll be cooked like the meat he ate earlier. 7e0Vbh

Finally, Sebi found who he was looking for. Despite the flames, the person was unharmed because she was inside a mecha suit. She had probably been working on the suit while the fire broke out, and she had been too preoccupied to notice the danger.

“Chunmi Alvarez?” he tried telepathically calling out as he walked up to the person, probing at their consciousness. “Is this Chunmi Alvarez?”

“Hmm…” is all that he could hear.

Without wasting much time anymore, Sebi carried the person in the mecha with his telekinesis then ran out of the room. cyJ5M0

Meanwhile, Necomir finally got in contact with Bellona, who has now shifted from panicking for Chunmi’s life into comforting him. He has never felt fear more intense than right now as he stared at Sebi dashing straight into a burning hell. It was obvious on his face, and even if Bellona wanted to tease him for it, she could only sympathize.

“Don’t worry, Decebal knows what he is doing,” Bellona said, but it did little to appease him.

“He’s got that fucking hero complex, and where did it get him the first time?! Six years of slumber!” Necomir angrily said.

“He’s more powerful than you,” Bellona snickered. “Listen, Dr. Wu suddenly asked me if Decebal was in my year, and she praised Decebal’s abilities! She said that if they brought back the level ranking system, Decebal would definitely be an omega level!” IWxcoH

Necomir seemed to be coaxed by this. But instead of feeling relieved, his history with Sebi and his competitive streak aroused his desire to win. This distracted him as his mind went through ways to help nurture Sebi back to the health that is appropriate for their age so that he can go against him at the Hexagon again.

“He survived!” came a yell from the crowd.

Necomir looked up and felt the tightening in his chest finally come loose when Sebi went over to the firefighters with a person dressed in a mechanical suit.

Dashing towards him, Necomir was ready to spew an endless stream of scoldings when a firefighter pressed the release button of the mecha suit, revealing an unconscious and pale Chunmi. JVkPX

“My Mimi!” Bellona wailed through his lightband. “I’m so happy you’re alive! Oh dear, I wouldn’t know what to do with myself if Sebi hadn’t been so courageous hu hu hu…”

Sebi sheepishly looked at Necomir, aware that what he did was out of bounds.

Smirking, Necomir reached out and flicked Sebi’s forehead.

“Ow…” the smaller man mumbled as he rubbed the reddening area. YMhDGB

“If the headmaster finds out what you’ve done, she’s going to be so proud of you and be so mad at me,” Necomir said, crossing his arms over his chest, his expression complicated.

“I’m sorry,” Sebi quickly said. “It’s just that… a little later and Chunmi would have succumbed to the lack of oxygen. I couldn’t just watch when I know I can do something.”

Necomir didn’t say anything for a while. He only stared at Sebi with unsettling golden eyes that seemed to read through him. It made Sebi suspect that if he tried hard enough, he’d figure out that he was a different soul from the original owner of this body.

“I know you’re powerful,” Necomir finally spoke. “I just hope you always think about the six years you have wasted because of your severe desire to help others and make it a lesson to work hard so you can match up with your hero complex and never fail again.” udXmnc

Sebi gaped at Necomir in a new light.

“Since when have you been so inspiring, Neco?” Sebi teased him. “All I wish for is to be good enough to see you in the Hexagon and be beaten by you.”

“Is that a provocation?” Necomir haughtily said as he straightened up and made himself look threatening.

Sebi simply laughed. RGLklO

Author’s Notes:

Sebi is still OOC, and Necomir can’t help but partially adapt to it and partially try to rouse Sebi’s competitiveness :blobrofl: FiIQ8t

Btw, I adjusted my schedule, so now I’ll be releasing chapters on Wednesdays and Saturdays!

    Me: “Where’s the hug????” OAO)

Seeing Sebi call Necomir as Neco always makes me think of ‘nico-nico-nii’ 😥

And thank you for the chapter~💕

  2. i dont remember if i commented on this chapter or not but i love the nostalgia in this chapter. nostalgia for lost planets, nostalgia for the actions that put sebi in the coma, even nostalgia for their rivalry. sometimes, a little nostalgia is good. im glad necomir decided to train to beat sebi in the hexagon bc if sebi tries something reckless like that again, neco can stop him.

thanks for the chapter, ive been saving them up to read all in one go. looking forward to the rest

    • Nostalgia is a way for Sebi to adjust, so it’s definitely good 😊
