If You Don’t Fall in Love, You’ll DieCh85 - Making Ren Jing Happy For the Rest of His Life Was Something That Ye Chen Would Do in This Lifetime!

The more Ye Chen thought about it, the more scared he became. For the first few missions, he had finished the missions just on the brink of time. What would have happened if he had failed to finish them!?

Ren Jing would have died without rhyme or reason!

Ye Chen was so scared that he spoke incoherently, “Why didn’t you tell me sooner!?”

Death System said, “If I did, Ren Jing would’ve probably died earlier.” Lt460w

At first, let alone liking Ren Jing, Ye Chen simply ‘disliked’ him. If Death System had frankly told him that the life points he was to obtain were for Ren Jing, Ye Chen probably wouldn’t have been that dedicated anymore. He would probably even feel forced to do it.

So Death System told a lie and said that the life points were for Ye Chen himself. If it dropped into zero, Ye Chen would die.

Under ordinary logic, everyone would cherish their life more than anything else. Above all, he had died once, so he would try his best to complete the missions—even if they were against his conscience.

This was how things were. From the beginning until now, Ye Chen had accomplished all of the missions perfectly, never giving up on any of them.

After thinking about it carefully, Ye Chen was astounded. He said to Death System with all of his sincerity, “Thank you.”

Death System was somewhat embarrassed. “W-What are you thanking me for? Just call me father and this father would be pleased.”

Ye Chen, “…” WBVL1C

He paused for a while before he recalled one more thing. “How did I get revived for the second time…” Could it be that Ren Jing had saved him again?

Death System, “You won’t die as long as I exist.”

Ye Chen didn’t quite understand.

Death System said, “Once the contract was established, I have the duty to ensure the safety of your life. You used four life points that time.” At that time, Death System had thought of deducting one more life point in order to guard against the unexpected. It ‘stretched the string tightly’ for Ye Chen in advance. If by any chance the mission couldn’t be completed someday, Ren Jing would still have one life point as a safeguard. VbCqea

Ye Chen wasn’t aware of its intention. He promptly questioned, “Then, the life points I gave to Grandpa and Mother are…”

Death System said, “One life point will be deducted daily in order to extend Ren Jing’s life. It will be deducted at the time you were reborn, at 9:55 in the morning. Ren Jing will be fine as long as it doesn’t drop to zero. The extra life points could be stored up to be used as a replacement of the missions, or they could also be used for your loved ones.”

Ye Chen let out a sigh of relief. He said again, “Thank you.” After all, the life points he used for Grandpa and Mother could be said to be the benefits from Death System. 20UhtE

Who would have imagined that Death System would say, “No need to thank me. The missions aren’t something I could just release whenever I want to.”

It paused for a while before continuing, “In the end, it’s thanks to Ren Jing who is always thinking about you all the time.”

Chrysanthemum Garden.

Ye Chen was shocked.

Death System let out a sigh. “The missions originated from Ren Jing’s deepest subconscious. When he missed you and this desire reached its peak, the mission will take shape… Right, I could then help him process his thoughts and release them as missions. Most of all, the random missions are basically generated according to his wishes. Therefore, the reason you could save so many life points is because Ren Jing is thinking of you at all times.” VI92hd

In other words, Ye Chen’s families’ health was because Ren Jing loved him so much.

Ye Chen immediately teared up. How could there be such a nice Ren Jing?

Ye Chen was completely filled with motivation now. Not to mention anything else, as long as he recalled that the life points were for extending Ren Jing’s life, he would never miss even a single mission!

Death System added, “By the way, you have to do your best to make Ren Jing always love you and keep loving you more. That way, the missions will be constantly generated.”

Ye Chen had not the slightest doubt about Ren Jing’s love towards him. He thought of another thing and asked, “If Ren Jing doesn’t love me anymore, then the missions will stop being generated?” HNbPBg

Death System replied resolutely, “Yes.”

Ye Chen’s eyes widened. “Then he will die!?”

Death System, “That’s right. I had cautioned Ren Jing on this, too.”

At that time, Ren Jing had laughed and said very calmly, “Just let him die, then.” He said  ‘him’—referring to the version of himself who didn’t love Ye Chen. cdSJRl

Ye Chen felt like crying again.

Death System, “Alright, this is how things are, don’t cry anymore. If you feel moved, then do your best at completing the missions, don’t be picky and dawdle around anymore. If he wants a kiss then you should immediately kiss him, if he wants a hug then immediately hug him, if he wants to lift you up high then you have to jump up high by yourself. You get it?”

Ye Chen’s whole heart was filled with Ren Jing, he couldn’t hear Death System’s trash talk at all. ZS2hFG

Death System imagined these energetically. “Since you two have done it, won’t the missions start to have a little more of an adult vibe from now on?”

Ye Chen’s brain circuits weren’t in line with Death System’s. He recalled one more thing. “Last time when Ren Jing caught a cold—was it because his subconscious mind didn’t want to infect me with the cold, and thus there weren’t any missions for a few continuous days?”

Story translated by Chrysanthemum Garden.

Death System replied, “That’s right. Which is why you must create a sense of presence before Ren Jing everyday and always pay attention to his conditions. Don’t let this kind of accident happen again.”

Ye Chen clenched his fist. “It will never happen again!” KSYFg8

Noticing that it had said enough, Death System said, “Now you’ll be given a choice.”

Ye Chen was stunned. “Huh?”

Death System, “Regarding the truth, you could choose whether to share it or not with Ren Jing.” xc2XTj

Ye Chen was stupefied. “But I’ve told him everything about you.”

Death System said, “As long as the memory is related to me, they’re part of the section which could be erased.”

Ye Chen understood now—Although he had told Ren Jing about it, Death System could erase that memory.

Death System said again, “I suggest you choose not to share it. Even though being honest is the right thing to do, some things are better left unsaid.” epAJNw

Ye Chen understood what Death System meant.

If he told Ren Jing all these things, it wouldn’t make Ren Jing happy at all. That was because everything Ye Chen would do might only become ‘missions’ in Ren Jing’s eyes from that time on; Ye Chen’s love would also become less pure to Ren Jing: Was Ye Chen truly in love with him? Or did Ye Chen ‘love’ him out of guilt and compensation?

Ren Jing deserved a happier life. PBM2Qw

Making Ren Jing happy for the rest of his life was something that Ye Chen would do in this lifetime!

Ye Chen made his mind up. “Don’t share it.”

Death System’s voice briskly resounded, “I’ll begin to erase the memory.”

Ye Chen opened his eyes and saw Ren Jing before him.

Ren Jing blinked as he asked, “What do you want to tell me?”

Ye Chen hugged him tightly, then kissed him passionately a few times.

Ren Jing was being kissed by him so many times that the corner of his eyes were slightly crinkled. His voice was as gentle as the sea when he said, “Chen Chen…” 690tiI

The surging love filling his chest was almost overflowing. He opened his mouth and said, “What I want to tell you is…”

“I love you, I love you, I love you!” Ye Chen’s eyes were gleaming as he said, “Ren Jing, let’s get married!”

Ren Jing’s whole body froze.

After realizing what he had said, Ye Chen’s scrambled mind finally calmed down. He stammered, “Uhm, I’m saying that…I…” Y5SwdB

Before he had the chance to finish his words, Ren Jing had already held his head and kissed him passionately.

Ye Chen was very embarrassed, but his heart felt very warm, too. He returned the kiss clumsily. This was obviously a great temptation to Ren Jing. Eventually, the two were ‘living in harmony’ in broad daylight just like this.

Afterwards, Ye Chen had practically turned into a nougat, being particularly sticky. He said to Ren Jing, “We’ll always have to be together everyday from now on!” 3p46S9

Ren Jing smiled. “Mn.”

Ye Chen told him again, “Even if we catch a cold or get ill, we’ll still stick together!”

Ren Jing felt incredibly sweet in his heart. “Alright.”

Ye Chen said, “I could help you if you’re busy!” vV4onX

Ren Jing had a smile all over his face as he looked at Ye Chen.

After considering his own capabilities, Ye Chen reluctantly changed his words, “E-Even if I couldn’t help you, I could stay by your side.”

Ren Jing said, “You would be helping me as long as you’re by my side.”

  MFqABh

Ye Chen thought for a while then couldn’t help but added, “Even if we’ll see each other everyday, you…”

It’s so shameful I can’t say it out! But this was related to the life points and thus, Ren Jing’s life—hence he summoned up his courage and said, “Even if we’ll see each other everyday, you have to always think of me.”

Please visit chrysanthemumgarden (dot) com

I said it, ahhh! He was surprised by his own shamelessness.

But certainly… Hearing Ye Chen’s words, Ren Jing was bursting with joy. His mind was stuffed with: Chen Chen is acting like a spoiled child, Chen Chen is so cute, Chen Chen is comforting me…  JeNTcA

Ye Chen was so embarrassed that his whole face had turned red. Still, he urged, “Is that okay with you?”

“Okay!” Ren Jing’s heart was going to melt soon as he said, “I’ll think of you all the time.”

Ye Chen, “You have to always keep me in your mind…”

“Mn, always!” Sd T4H

Ye Chen felt a bit relieved now. Nevertheless, he was quite shocked by his own totally shameless behavior that he couldn’t quite lift his head up.

Death System couldn’t keep watching the two either. They had been so lovey-dovey to each other before, and now…the sweetness had been multiplied by 10086 times, it had practically become infinite!

The next day after they were stuck to each other all the time, Ye Chen talked to his mother over the phone like always. rxJH9u

However, Queen Mother who usually prattled sweetly on the phone suddenly changed the topic. She came straight to the point. “What’s going on with you and Ren Jing?”

Ye Chen was struck dumb.

Between her idol and her son, the latter was obviously the utmost priority. Queen Mother grinded her teeth as she asked, “Didn’t you dislike Ren Jing the most?”

Ye Chen opened his mouth. A lot of words were stuck at the corner of his mouth… R6JzDP

He actually felt very nervous at first, but the nervousness was suddenly gone with the wind.

Ye Chen said, “Mom, have you returned home with dad? Let’s meet and talk.”

The author has something to say:

What do you mean by ‘heart-wrenching’? Isn’t the story bursting with sweetness instead~ 96bCTV

ramblings

whatever choice the characters made, however the author writes the story…let’s appreciate them. even if they might not be exactly what we wanted/liked, i believe that author-sama knew what’s the best for her children. all in all, let’s just learn to respect the author 🙂

also u know wat, regarding the previous chapter (84)… this might be just me brainrotting like usual, but now that i think abt it, the reason “a terrible sharp pain” came to RJ’s head is possibly bcs… all abt Death System isn’t sth he should have the knowledge of? i feel like it’s kinda like a part of the contract—DS existed bcs of RJ’s strong “resolve”, they chatted to discuss the contract, and in the end, DS agreed to “revive” YC using RJ’s life. besides “losing” his life, he’ll also forget all abt DS and this contract thingy… don’t u think RJ forgetting all of that is also sth like a part of the contract? thus, after YC “told” him abt DS, missions, and things like that… he wasn’t exactly “sad”, but it’s kinda like “breach of contract! breach of contract! he shoulnd’t know anything abt DS or the contract!”. the “sharp pain” is him “remembering” abt DS and ofc, the contract, which (again) isn’t something he should know of, bcs one of the “condition” that the contract was made is that RJ shouldn’t know that he’s the one who made the contract in the first place… sth like that. kinda tragic if u ask me, but understandable bcs I understand RJ’s character. He’d literally die for YC… *ugly sobbing*

but again, all of these are just my assumptions. judging from who RJ is, it’s less likely he’d become sad after YC told him the truth… with all the “I believe everything you say” coming from RJ so often. if u watch Cherry Magic then RJ is pretty similar to Kurosawa, in a way? even after knowing the truth and all of that… same goes to YC too, like Adachi… “i’d still fall in love with him even without this power”. BUT YEAHHHHHHHH these are all just me brainrotting so just take them with a grain of salt lmaooo… and ur 100% free to disagree, just don’t fucking invalidate me. i already told u these are what *I* think of, ur free to think otherwise. so thanks for coming to my ted talk, have a nice day! <3 9u0xgy

Translator's Note

This is translated literally. If I must find an equivalent, then I think it’s something like… when your partner tells you he/she wants to take your relationship further, things like that (???). Well, to put it bluntly… They had sex LOL. My, these bitches gay and thriving! Good for them, good for them. (it’s from this Sonic meme if you don’t get the reference)

  1. Tbh I actually liked his choice, it’s different from what it would usually be in other novels and it makes sense, they’re supposed to be human so those worries are valid. Idk, if I was in his place I would do the same.

    Thx for the chapter (灬º‿º灬)♡

  2. Personally, I still think Ye Chen should have shared it. There’s no reason to assume that sharing the secret would definitely make things worse- Ren Jing could just as easily decide he trusted Ye Chen and Ye Chen’s love for him, and seeing as this is a fluffy story as you pointed out, that’d probably be the route he takes.

Meanwhile, if he doesn’t share it, I could foresee sometime in the future Ren Jing finding out about the system, knowing Ye Chen lied to him for their entire relationship, now with YEARS of betrayal at stake…and THAT being the force that causes the bad end. Now that wouldn’t fit the genre, but neither would the drama of Ren Jing doubting their relationship if he tells him now.

All this to say- I don’t think that either telling or not telling is the decision that needs to be made based on genre- both could have a simple fluffy resolution or a dog blood bad end. So, that being said, I’m always one to advocate for honesty in relationships. Keeping such a big secret to yourself seems tiring to me.

    • But at the cost of the partner keep on suspecting your live is genuine or not? I don’t think so. YC originally do not like RJ and so if he knows about it then he will think that he only does all the things for the points. Even if YC explained that he loves him NOW but all of his action will be suspected by RJ whether it’s his real feeling or becayse of the mission. No matter hiw much he loves YC he will still have this doubt because the whole thing started with them not being a lover. I guess some things are better kept secret

      • Well, that’s why I mentioned trust. If you actually read my comment, I explained that it’s possible he’d do nothing but suspect Ye Chen from then on…or, if he had sufficient trust in Ye Chen and their relationship, he would understand how things got started, but that feelings actually ultimately changed….like, as in what actually happened, and as Ye Chen would explain. A healthy relationship is built on the foundation of trust- same basic concept of letting your partner have other friends and important people in their life without assuming they’re cheating on you. You’ll never know for sure about things you don’t see for yourself, but you are trusting your partner is true to you and cares about you as they say they do.

If you really think that no matter what, Ren Jing will never believe Ye Chen again…then you’re also assuming that Ren Jing will never actually trust Ye Chen. Which is a possibility, and I’m not denying that, but like I’ve explained, not the only possibility. I like to believe that Ren Jing would know that Ye Chen can’t act to save his life and would understand that he’s being genuine, even if there was a wacky start.

Like, I kind of get it that some things are better kept secret, but I don’t think this is necessarily one of those things (personally, can’t think of any at all, but there are probably some out there). And I do get his decision to keep it secret- not knowing whether Ren Jing would believe in him means it’s easier to just not say anything. But ultimately I think having a huge secret that involves your partner and keeping it from them for the rest of your life isn’t going to be easy for you- realistically, that’s a lot of burden. Though this story was never going for realistic, so it’s mostly a moot point.

Overall, like I said originally, I think it could have gone either way and be written to be as fluffy as we’d like or as dogblood as we like. “He has to keep it secret or it would ruin their relationship” doesn’t really make sense to me, because this is fiction…the author could just write it as not ruining their relationship. And that would make just as much sense to me. Therefore, as someone who loves to see total trust and communication between my ships, I’d prefer to see him share it more than to keep secrets “for the other’s own good”, without the other person having any say in it. It’s just not a trope I like to see that much. But that’s just my own opinion.

  3. I also agree with Chen Chen’s choice. Some things are indeed better left unsaid. Although I also agree that couples should share their weals and woes but on this case, with Ren Jing’s character it’s highly propable that he would second guess each and everything little thing Chen Chen does for him, then it would be too much of a dog blood drama…i dont want that! 🥺🥺

I like them to keep on spreading dog food and sugars everywhere!! 😆😆😆

  4. The question whether Ren Jing would feel that the relationship is
fake… Nah, he knows that Ye Chen is a failure as an actor, he can’t
    fake feelings.

I just don’t want him to think that Ye
Chen was forced to be intimate against his will. He would definitely
feel guilty and distressed thinking that when they were kissing, hugging
and spreading love, his Chen Chen was actually unwilling, forced and
scared. After all, IRL giving a choice between death or intimate
    behavior would be considered rape.

  5. Ahhhhhh, these two are so sweet!!! And as for YC’s choice, whether his decision was the best or not, I can understand why he made it

    Thanks for the chapter! 🙂

  6. Personally, I would have talked with Ren Jing about it before having the system erase his memory. I understand the concerns, but I feel like it would be a bit of a violation to erase his memory like that without permission. Plus, he obviously trusts Ye Chen so I don’t think it would have been a problem in the long run. I’m not unhappy with his choice, I just personally would have chosen differently.

  7. At first I thought that it would be unfair for RJ to not remember how he sacrificed himself for his loved ones… but! I immediately understood that making him remember would also be like make him re-live the moments that YC died..m and ofc we wouldn’t want that!

  8. fully agree with your t/n, i also think Ren Jing is similar to Kurosawa in that way; they would know their own feelings well enough to say that they would fall in love with their partners regardless of any supernatural happenings hehe (´ω`) but yeah Ren Jing’s headache was worrying, that’s why i believe it was a good idea for Ye Chen to have his memories erased, otherwise who knows what would’ve happened if he remembered the system (ꏿ﹏ꏿ;)

    • (but if there wasn’t any danger to Ren Jing remembering the system,,, i think he deserved to know the truth, and i also believe he wouldn’t doubt Ye Chen’s feelings either 🫣)
