Death System said again, “I suggest you choose not to share it. Even though being honest is the right thing to do, some things are better left unsaid.”
Ye Chen understood what Death System meant.
If he told Ren Jing all these things, it wouldn’t make Ren Jing happy at all. That was because everything Ye Chen would do might only become ‘missions’ in Ren Jing’s eyes from that time on; Ye Chen’s love would also become less pure to Ren Jing: Was Ye Chen truly in love with him? Or did Ye Chen ‘love’ him out of guilt and compensation?
Ren Jing deserved a happier life.
Making Ren Jing happy for the rest of his life was something that Ye Chen would do in this lifetime!

“I love you, I love you, I love you!” Ye Chen’s eyes were gleaming as he said, “Ren Jing, let’s get married!”
Ren Jing’s whole body froze.
After realizing what he had said, Ye Chen’s scrambled mind finally calmed down. He stammered, “Uhm, I’m saying that…I…”
Before he had the chance to finish his words, Ren Jing had already held his head and kissed him passionately.

But certainly… Hearing Ye Chen’s words, Ren Jing was bursting with joy. His mind was stuffed with: Chen Chen is acting like a spoiled child, Chen Chen is so cute, Chen Chen is comforting me…
Ye Chen was so embarrassed that his whole face had turned red. Still, he urged, “Is that okay with you?”
“Okay!” Ren Jing’s heart was going to melt soon as he said, “I’ll think of you all the time.”
Ye Chen, “You have to always keep me in your mind…”

Ye Chen felt a bit relieved now. Nevertheless, he was quite shocked by his own totally shameless behavior that he couldn’t quite lift his head up.
Death System couldn’t keep watching the two either. They had been so lovey-dovey to each other before, and now…the sweetness had been multiplied by 10086 times, it had practically become infinite!
The next day after they were stuck to each other all the time, Ye Chen talked to his mother over the phone like always.
However, Queen Mother who usually prattled sweetly on the phone suddenly changed the topic. She came straight to the point. “What’s going on with you and Ren Jing?”

whatever choice the characters made, however the author writes the story…let’s appreciate them. even if they might not be exactly what we wanted/liked, i believe that author-sama knew what’s the best for her children. all in all, let’s just learn to respect the author 🙂
also u know wat, regarding the previous chapter (84)… this might be just me brainrotting like usual, but now that i think abt it, the reason “a terrible sharp pain” came to RJ’s head is possibly bcs… all abt Death System isn’t sth he should have the knowledge of? i feel like it’s kinda like a part of the contract—DS existed bcs of RJ’s strong “resolve”, they chatted to discuss the contract, and in the end, DS agreed to “revive” YC using RJ’s life. besides “losing” his life, he’ll also forget all abt DS and this contract thingy… don’t u think RJ forgetting all of that is also sth like a part of the contract? thus, after YC “told” him abt DS, missions, and things like that… he wasn’t exactly “sad”, but it’s kinda like “breach of contract! breach of contract! he shoulnd’t know anything abt DS or the contract!”. the “sharp pain” is him “remembering” abt DS and ofc, the contract, which (again) isn’t something he should know of, bcs one of the “condition” that the contract was made is that RJ shouldn’t know that he’s the one who made the contract in the first place… sth like that. kinda tragic if u ask me, but understandable bcs I understand RJ’s character. He’d literally die for YC… *ugly sobbing*
but again, all of these are just my assumptions. judging from who RJ is, it’s less likely he’d become sad after YC told him the truth… with all the “I believe everything you say” coming from RJ so often. if u watch Cherry Magic then RJ is pretty similar to Kurosawa, in a way? even after knowing the truth and all of that… same goes to YC too, like Adachi… “i’d still fall in love with him even without this power”. Tbh I actually liked his choice, it’s different from what it would usually be in other novels and it makes sense, they’re supposed to be human so those worries are valid. Idk, if I was in his place I would do the same.

Meanwhile, if he doesn’t share it, I could foresee sometime in the future Ren Jing finding out about the system, knowing Ye Chen lied to him for their entire relationship, now with YEARS of betrayal at stake…and THAT being the force that causes the bad end. Now that wouldn’t fit the genre, but neither would the drama of Ren Jing doubting their relationship if he tells him now.
All this to say- I don’t think that either telling or not telling is the decision that needs to be made based on genre- both could have a simple fluffy resolution or a dog blood bad end. So, that being said, I’m always one to advocate for honesty in relationships. Keeping such a big secret to yourself seems tiring to me.
But at the cost of the partner keep on suspecting your live is genuine or not? I don’t think so. YC originally do not like RJ and so if he knows about it then he will think that he only does all the things for the points. Even if YC explained that he loves him NOW but all of his action will be suspected by RJ whether it’s his real feeling or becayse of the mission. No matter hiw much he loves YC he will still have this doubt because the whole thing started with them not being a lover. I guess some things are better kept secret
If you really think that no matter what, Ren Jing will never believe Ye Chen again…then you’re also assuming that Ren Jing will never actually trust Ye Chen. Which is a possibility, and I’m not denying that, but like I’ve explained, not the only possibility. I like to believe that Ren Jing would know that Ye Chen can’t act to save his life and would understand that he’s being genuine, even if there was a wacky start.
Like, I kind of get it that some things are better kept secret, but I don’t think this is necessarily one of those things (personally, can’t think of any at all, but there are probably some out there). And I do get his decision to keep it secret- not knowing whether Ren Jing would believe in him means it’s easier to just not say anything. But ultimately I think having a huge secret that involves your partner and keeping it from them for the rest of your life isn’t going to be easy for you- realistically, that’s a lot of burden. Though this story was never going for realistic, so it’s mostly a moot point.
Overall, like I said originally, I think it could have gone either way and be written to be as fluffy as we’d like or as dogblood as we like. “He has to keep it secret or it would ruin their relationship” doesn’t really make sense to me, because this is fiction…the author could just write it as not ruining their relationship. And that would make just as much sense to me. Therefore, as someone who loves to see total trust and communication between my ships, I’d prefer to see him share it more than to keep secrets “for the other’s own good”, without the other person having any say in it. It’s just not a trope I like to see that much. But that’s just my own opinion.
I also agree with Chen Chen’s choice. Some things are indeed better left unsaid. Although I also agree that couples should share their weals and woes but on this case, with Ren Jing’s character it’s highly propable that he would second guess each and everything little thing Chen Chen does for him, then it would be too much of a dog blood drama…i dont want that! 🥺🥺

scared. After all, IRL giving a choice between death or intimate
behavior would be considered rape.

Personally, I would have talked with Ren Jing about it before having the system erase his memory. I understand the concerns, but I feel like it would be a bit of a violation to erase his memory like that without permission. Plus, he obviously trusts Ye Chen so I don’t think it would have been a problem in the long run. I’m not unhappy with his choice, I just personally would have chosen differently.

At first I thought that it would be unfair for RJ to not remember how he sacrificed himself for his loved ones… but! I immediately understood that making him remember would also be like make him re-live the moments that YC died..m and ofc we wouldn’t want that!
fully agree with your t/n, i also think Ren Jing is similar to Kurosawa in that way; they would know their own feelings well enough to say that they would fall in love with their partners regardless of any supernatural happenings hehe (´ω｀) but yeah Ren Jing’s headache was worrying, that’s why i believe it was a good idea for Ye Chen to have his memories erased, otherwise who knows what would’ve happened if he remembered the system (ꏿ﹏ꏿ;)
