Mr. Davy told the second year students to form a group of five for the camping trip. The teacher’s statement created a buzz within the students who were overly excited regarding the trip. The floor where the second year classrooms were located had been filled with excited shrieks, cheerful laughter, and enthusiastic voices. Everyone was so excited for the camping trip.
Well, except for two people. The first one out of the two was obviously Gilbert Hugo. As usual, his head was slumped on his desk catching some Zs. It looked like he couldn’t care less about some goddamn camping trip. He just did his usual business at school—sleeping through all the bullshit he didn’t have the energy to entertain.
The other student was none other than Seth Wiley. In his previous life, the camping trip didn’t happen—or it did? Seth didn’t have any idea. During this time, in the past, Seth’s mom got killed and he was overwhelmed with sadness and grief. He also stopped coming to school at this point because Uncle Hans decided to take him to his house and abused him while spending his mom’s hard earned money without any care. Seth heaved a deep sigh. He should stop thinking about those things—all of it did not happen in his current timeline. In this life, Seth was happy. He had his loved ones around him.
“What are you thinking?”
Seth looked at the direction of the person that asked him the question. He saw Gil—standing beside his desk, awake and looking at him with concern written on his face. He smiled at his boyfriend. Gil looked handsome even with knotted eyebrows.
“I’m just thinking if this camping trip is worth all the fuss.” Seth shrugged.
“Do you want to join the trip? Or the opposite?” asked Gil.
Before Seth answered Gil’s question, he wanted to know what his boyfriend was thinking. “How about you?”
Gil shook his head. “I think it’s bullshit. But…”
“But what, huh?” A smile formed on Seth’s lips. Somehow he knew what Gil was going to say.
“…but if you want to join, then I’m all in.” Gil said in a serious voice.
“Hmm, I think we should join the camping trip. Maybe, it will be fun.”
“If that’s what you want, sweetheart…” Gil gave him a lovely smile.
Seth was swooning over his boyfriend. But their moment was interrupted by Paul and the others. The guys walked up to Seth with obvious excitement.
“The rock-paper-scissors-tournament just finished.” Paul said with a grin. “I present you the triumphant warriors who bested their contemporaries just for the honor of serving the lords of this land.”
“You’re sick in the head…” Gil commented. “Don’t come near us again.”
Paul scratched his head. “I am sorry—”
“No, it’s okay.” Seth told his classmate. “Just tell us what is happening…in a normal way, perhaps?”

“Of course, I won!” Paul exclaimed. “And so are these two…” he pointed to their other classmates standing closed to them.
“Oh, Josh and Damon won? Congrats!” Seth laughed at the craziness of the situation. But, on the other hand, he deeply appreciated his friends’ efforts just to make him happy. He was such a lucky guy.
“Where’s my congratulations?” Paul whined.
“Come here…” Gil motioned for Paul to come closer. “Don’t make me wait.”
Paul looked scared, but he did was he was told. He walked up to Gil and braced himself for whatever in store for him.
Everyone watching (except Seth) gasped when Gil put his hand on Paul’s shoulder—but instead of hitting him like a sandbag, Gil’s hand patted Paul’s shoulder three times in acknowledgment. Seth was the only one who didn’t doubt Gil’s intention towards Paul. He was smiling from ear to ear while watching his friend and boyfriend interacted with each other.
After that, everything went smoothly. The groups held meetings of their own.
When school ended, as usual, Seth and Gil were expected to go home together. But, Seth told his boyfriend that he would go to the toilet first before going home. Gil replied that he would wait for Seth in the classroom.
Seth found Chuck Mallory washing his hands on the sink when he went to the toilet. Chuck didn’t even take a glance in Seth’s direction. Well, it was understandable. After everything that happened between them, Chuck lost his place in school and became an outcast. Seth didn’t want for his classmate to be alienated even after what Chuck did to him—however, in the back of Seth’s mind he knew that Chuck deserve all the awful things he was experiencing at the moment. As what Gil had said to Seth, he had to let Chuck learn things the hard way. Pitying him would only give Chuck a new power over Seth.
More importantly, Chuck didn’t even apologize to Seth even once. So, why bother, right?
Seth just shrugged and was about to do his business, when unexpectedly, Chuck Mallory opened his mouth and started spewing things that Seth, in all honesty, didn’t care so much about.
“I won’t go to that stupid camping trip.” Chuck blurted out.
Seth didn’t say anything.
Chuck Mallory continued on. “I am transferring schools. I don’t have anything to do with this shitty school anymore. You can continue your pathetic life believing that you’ll always be on top. I am out of here. I hope this fucking school burn to the ground with all of you.”
Seth had had heard enough. He gave Chuck a disgusting look and said. “I wish you a life that you truly deserve, Chuck.” Then, he went on to do his business.
Maybe the universe enjoyed seeing how Seth would act in awkward encounters, because surely, his day was about to be as interesting as fuck. When Seth came out of the toilet he saw Simon Walsh walking towards his direction with a familiar looking student in tow.
“Hi, Seth!” Simon greeted him as if they were friends. “How’s your day?”
“Not as interesting as yours.” Seth answered in a monotone voice.
But Simon didn’t back down. “Oh, I guess you already know Brandon Lawry. You’re both second years, but Brandon here is in class D.” Simon introduced the student that was with him. Brandon Lawry was a short boy wearing thick eyeglasses. His hair was neatly combed and the uniform he was wearing looked pristine even though the school had ended.
Seth didn’t know about Brandon Lawry. Maybe Seth saw him a few times—the reason why Brandon’s face became somewhat familiar to him. Class D’s classroom was on the other side of the building. “Hi, Brandon. My name is Seth.” He introduced himself out of courtesy. “I need to get back to the classroom because Gil is waiting for me.” He didn’t wait for Simon Walsh to say anything in return. Seth just waked his way back to the classroom.
“Don’t forget about Brandon, okay? You can be best buddies!” Simon’s voice echoed.
Seth didn’t pay him any mind.
Gil was writing on his notebook when Seth returned to the classroom. “Are you ready to go home?” Gil asked him without looking up.
“Yes?”
“Well, I’m not…” Gil closed his notebook and finally looked up at Seth. “Let’s go on a date, shall we?”
Seth nodded his head with so much enthusiasm. “Let’s go! I know mom would understand if we’re home later than usual.”
Gil held his hand. Seth gave his boyfriend a lovely smile.
The two used the secret passage to explore places that they wouldn’t go to usually. Seth wanted to play games again, so Gil brought him to the nearest arcade. Then, the lovers went on to enjoy themselves looking at books inside a bookstore. They had fun with their little date. They even bought ice cream while walking to the bus stop.
Seth got a scoop of strawberry and a scoop of chocolate ice cream. On the other hand, Gil got cookies and cream and pistachio.
“The pistachio flavor looks great.” Seth was eyeing his boyfriend’s ice cream.
As expected, Gil offered his ice cream to Seth. “You can have a bite.”
It was a very tempting offer but Seth had to refuse. “No! I have to stand by my decision.”
Gil laughed out loud. “Why are you being so cute like that?”
Seth gave Gil a proud look. Then, he licked his ice cream with so much gusto. He was too absorbed with what he was doing that Seth failed to see the way Gil was looking at him at that moment.
“I can’t wait to know what other things that tongue that expertly licking an ice cream can do.” Gil said out of the blue.
Seth coughed. When his gaze met Gil’s he saw something sparkled in his eyes. Seth felt his cheeks become warm. “W-what are you saying, you punk!”
Gil gave him a naughty smile. “I cannot wait for us to become full-blown adults.” Gil moved closer to Seth and planted a gentle kiss on his forehead.
Seth closed his eyes. It was a brief kiss but it felt perfect.
However, when Seth opened his eyes he didn’t expect to see someone watching him and Gil. The guy was standing not far from them and obviously, he was looking at them intently. When they guy realized that Seth was looking at him, he immediately looked away and ran.
“Anything wrong, Seth?” Gil asked him. Maybe Seth looked weird in front of his boyfriend at that moment.
“No,” Seth shook his head. “Let’s go home…”
Of course, Seth would look weird upon seeing they guy who was spying him and Gil. He just met the guy an hour or so ago. And the guy was someone close with Simon Walsh.
“…You can be best buddies!” he remembered Simon Walsh shouting that nonsense to him not long ago.
They guy who was spying on them was none other than Brandon Lawry.
Seth knew Simon was on to something…again.
