The Virtuous Sect held an official test for civilians to apply for their sect. Official numbers say that during the test, nearly three hundred people appeared in total, of which sixty were taken in for a probation period.
Standing out the most during the test was a blacksmith’s son. His astounding talent surprised everyone, catching the eyes of the sect leader.
Despite the teenager having oddly coloured eyes, the sect leader decided to give him a special test.
After passing with flying colours, the child was accepted as the sect leader’s second disciple.
The teenager became the disciple of a Grandmaster, and junior brother to another one.
Reports are stating that the sect leader picked up a treasure.
In a minimum of time, the new disciple picked up any and all techniques given to him. Ignoring their level difference, the disciple was often found to be sparring with his senior brother, who started actively participating in the disciple’s training.
According to the well-known senior brother, the disciple already shows signs of a growing obsession, hinting at him highly likely reaching Master level at some time.
The obsession seems to be centered around arrays.
The sect leader has declared he’s willing to buy up bits and pieces of broken arrays, as his disciple appears to be able to fix some of them.
The new disciple broke through the Grandmaster rank. Similar to his senior brother, he has a mutated eyecolour.
A beast has appeared at the disciple’s side. Rumors say it is acquainted with the other Grandmaster’s beast. It is said to be a huge crossbreed of frightening strength.
Attempts at trying to convince it to switch sides have failed. The beast appears to be surprisingly loyal despite only recently bonding.

The mutter was almost swallowed up by the constant murmuring noises of people passing by the little alley.
Two old men, cloaked in dark robes, stood closely together, watching a kid lying in a corner. The boy must have been a bit feverish, as he didn’t react to them approaching. His little, underweight body tensed only when they squatted down in front of him.
He opened his eyes, squinting and trying to focus.
“The place is right and he looks correct. Red eyes, see”, the second old man said with satisfaction. “It should be him. One week before everything started. I told you the dreams were accurate!”
They both smiled.
The smiles were odd, but the child couldn’t tell why. He struggled to retreat.
“Don’t be scared”, the first old man said almost soothingly. He pulled out something from his robes – a bun. The child stared at it with wide eyes. Food.
He was starving and had no mental capacity for worrying about what the men might want. He grabbed the bun when it was held out to him and devoured it hungrily. A big hand patted on his head.
“Hungry? Do you want more food?” The voice was a devil’s whisper. “Why don’t you come with us? We will feed you and keep you warm.”
The child paused, only a bit suspicious. He was hungry and they were offering food.
“We will treat you well”, the other man almost sang. “We will help you grow. We will teach you how to defend yourself against all those that treat you badly.”
That did sound tempting. The child often got beaten up. He wished he could somehow protect himself.
“Right. You will be perfectly safe with us.” The old men laughed softly, their eyes narrowing into slits. “Come with us, little boy. You won’t regret it. A beautiful future is waiting for you, one where you won’t ever have to cower… You will be the most powerful, never to fear anything again…”
The boy blinked.
Dazedly, he grabbed the hand that was reached out to him.
The world around him seemed to shudder, as if something slumbering was waking up.
It’s not right like this.
But he wouldn’t be able to notice it. He stumbled as the old man pulled him upright, then followed them quietly.
It wasn’t supposed to be like this.
It’s different.
It changed.

Congrats to finding out we are not in timeline two – we are in timeline three.
Contrary to Xie Yi, the elders only have something like prophetic dreams, sent from a sect survivor of a future where the Demonic Sect is destroyed. A very uncomfortable fuck-up for every deity, Immortal and Transcendant all around – messing with a timeline like this is the purest form of destruction and they can feel it.
Whoa, plot twist! Poor Xie Yi though, he got the short end of the stick. I just hope that he can concentrate on his studies about common sense for a while before trouble starts up…

Yep! Xie Yi was supposed to grow up normally, which would have left him considerably less frantic (though he’s growing into that slowly now, too!)
The one who messed with the timeline was someone from the Demonic Sect. The one who changed it back is the original keeper of time, who was greatly unamused at time being messed with. I’ll have a tiny extra on that at the end of the story, but because they’re not part of this plot, they don’t appear otherwise 🙂

That was unexpexted… So in timeline 1 they should be martial brothers until they became immort.. however the demonic sect got some hints so they messed up XY’s past to create timeline 2. Then XY got reborn and created timeline 3 which is the current novel.
I guess someone wants to correct the timeline.

Ah they didn’t turn back time, they only sent back information in the form of dreams, which is considerably easier (but still causes a damn huge mess.) They could only do that by using something from a higher plane, as well, otherwise they couldn’t have done such a thing 🙂
