The Grandmaster's Weird DiscipleCh106.2 - Intermission – The reason for one’s hatred

There were some things that the Zhu family would keep under wraps forever – secrets they’d protect with their lives.

Yao Ming had, as a child, been very fond of his uncle. The man was a cultivator and his absolute idol. He wanted to be like him when he grew up – powerful and unbending. You could almost argue that his uncle was more his father than his actual parent was, and the connection appeared mutual. His uncle gave him all the love he could ask for, and that love was returned in full. GgfKR8

When the man vanished for several years after a demonic beast subjugation, the family was devastated. Even Yao Ming himself, who couldn’t do much, would constantly pester the servants about any possible news.

They never expected him to return but when he did, only very few people knew about it.

Story translated by Chrysanthemum Garden.

As his favourite nephew, Yao Ming had been dragged into the situation.

He very well remembered the discomfort at seeing the boy who was supposed to be his cousin. It wasn’t the weirdly crimson eyes, it was the aura he held.  The boy was creepy and Yao Ming did not like him but for his uncle, he tried his best to get along with the creepy child and that elusive wife his uncle had brought home. 3Tok1v

Until that one day.

He hadn’t liked his servant but it was his servant after all, so he had asked his family to help search for him when he appeared to have vanished into thin air.

They found him.

They preferred they hadn’t.

The sight of a young boy, barely in his teens, happily crunching down his distorted teeth on the servant’s arm had caused the childish Yao Ming to retch.

The blank eyes of the man were turned to the door, face filled with horror – and below his head was nothing until the separated legs lying a bit farther away.

Yao Ming’s grandfather turned pale.

“You… You married a demonic beast!”

Yao Ming couldn’t understand the full truth of it until years later. QClyuB

Humans could not endure engaging in sexual acts with humanoid demonic beasts due to the difference in their energies, but demonic cultivators could. That his uncle had taken the path of a demonic cultivator for survival was nothing he thought of as bad, but what followed was.

The demon spawn that was born of the two was a monster. Inhuman and violent, they lived off human flesh.

However, they were good at concealing themselves.

The boy cried heartbreakingly when his mother and father lay slain at his feet, the Grandmaster of the Zhu family holding him up by the collar. He begged and promised not to do it again with the most innocent face, then tried to bite the man’s throat a second later. qAn sl

Yao Ming was locked up for a week to make sure he understood he could never breathe a word of it.

Demon spawns were a carefully kept, dirty secret. He was not supposed to be able to know of them.

If it got out, their whole family would be exterminated as a safety measure.

Yao Ming kept his mouth shut. NP0xGL

He had never seen his uncle again since the man vanished in that subjugation years ago…

He knew nothing of what happened to his uncle, who had been solitary for all his life…

He just didn’t remember any of it. His uncle had died, his beloved uncle, that amazing man who was the pride of their family and his idol.

And then, in the sect, that child appeared. 9DCka2

Alive with a cracked core that shouldn’t be possible. Innocent and unusual, with red eyes.

It could be a coincidence, he told himself. Demon spawns weren’t common. He hated the boy for being Shi Yue’s disciple, but he could teach him his place easily enough. They were fellow disciples. Everything was fine, this was nothing more than a cheeky boy a bit too arrogant for his status. Nothing bad.

But then he fought.

There was no way for a street-rat to fight like that and suspicion came crashing down again. GJjgLm

The looks he always gave Yao Ming when Shi Yue wasn’t around  – not that of a child. Not that of a human. He held no care for the dead beast in front of him.

Too abnormal.

Yao Ming couldn’t tell if it was fear crashing down on him or hatred. Things like these had killed his father. Things like these had destroyed his family’s peace. Besides, even if this thing was obedient now, what about later? What if it grew? What if it started to attack the sect from the inside?

Aah. Actually, couldn’t he get rid of that thing, now while it was still young? He’d be a hero. So far, that thing kept itself under control so he had time… OhKzEp

Once it was dead, he could tell the sect that it had threatened him from the start and he had only retaliated. ‘Foolishly’ believed he could take care of it himself. Alas, he would apologize for not reporting it to the sect, but the most important would be that it was dead, no?

The thought lodged itself in his head.

He could be a hero. He could get rid of a pest at Shi Yue’s side. He could kill one of the things that had caused his uncle’s death…

If it hadn’t been for those things, his uncle would still be alive. bCsTF0

They shouldn’t exist.

That Xie Yi… would die for it.

Author’s Note

Pause for a moment and consider how insanely suspicious Xie Yi is to anyone in this setting, let alone a traumatized young man. Of course Yao Ming didn’t react the right way, but that doesn’t mean he’s evil.
Yao Ming isn’t the great big villain of the story, so I saw no reason not to give him reasons for acting the way he did. He’s convinced he can take care of this himself, without implicating his family by revealing the truth that he knows about a being he’s not supposed to know about. 4tyhTW

  1. Wait so, is Xie Yi really a demon spawn? Or did Yao Ming ‘thinks’ he is a demon spawn?

From the text, it’s seem the one killed his uncle wasn’t Xie Yi, and despite his bloodlust, Xie Yi wasn’t a cannibal.

Anyway, my most pressing concern is whether Baby Yi is saved in time 😨

    • Yao Ming just thinks he is. Xie Yi’s bloodlust was “cultivated” in his last life and isn’t natural. It’s still odd enough for Yao Ming to believe that Xie Yi is a demon spawn, just like the kid that killed his uncle

  2. Okay fair enough. But Yao Ming still annoying tho. lol this such a great cliffhanger (like the last chapter) i am both in awe and pain and i’m just really excited for more. Thank you so much for the update!

  3. Tsk tsk, it’d be nice if Yao Ming goes to therapy and sees Xie Yi isn’t a demon spawn- that said now it makes me curious about who Xie Yi’s parents are? We probably won’t see them in the story but were they demonic cultivators or?

    Ty for the chapter💜💜💜

  4. I understand Yao Mings suspicion but still! It is not his place to do that.. XY havent dont anything wrong . Just because they have similarities he thinks XY as frmon spawn. Tsk…

  5. Finally get to the part of YMs reasoning and I love the story. I agree, I never saw him as a villain but an antagonist since we never know his reasoning until now. From early chapters I had thought him more complex, not the usual villain senior who got jealous that’s common in other stories after I was wrong during his first three appearance. I quite like him as a character

  6. He is Crazy. Did he really think everyone is an idiotic like he is. Of course it wouldn’t go past the grandmasters knowledge if that is indeed the case and also they already checked him, he really is an idiot and too focused on the fame of being a “hero”.

  7. Yao Ming is prejudiced and filled with hate as he was taught. His family judged and destroyed his uncle, shouldn’t he be mad at his grandfather and family who actually killed his uncle. His uncle obviously loved his wife and child regardless of what they were. No excuse for him, hopefully he puddles him into a sac of pus ! Thank for the chapters.

  8. Nope, don’t care, still hate you. Off with you head!!! How arrogant of him to think TWO grandmasters are blind to something he think he see. How stupid of him to think those GRANDMASTERS don’t know about demon spawns and how to identify them. His cousin could hide so long because he had his parents to protect him, but not Xie Yi. Imbecile.

I don’t care about his trauma I WANT HIM DEAD.

  9. Truthfully idc about Yao mings reason. His actuons show he thinks too highly of himself and not enough of the sect leader and shi yue who are both already aware of how suspicious xie yi was and had been keeping a close eye on him. I just find it selfish for him to take matters into his own hands thinking hes some big hero and that xie yi deserves to die.
