Chapter 93 QxLis5

I subconsciously grabbed Agares’s wrist and tried to retreat back into the waters, however we were blocked by dozens of gun barrels aimed towards us. Looking around, the reef-filled shoal had a significant distance to the deeper water, I had without a doubt that before Agares and I could flee into the waters, these Japanese soldiers would maim us.

Story translated by Chrysanthemum Garden.

Agares held me in his embrace motionlessly in the water, his body clearly was in a state of arousement, which made his enduring expression even more sinister. He viciously stared at the surrounding Japanese soldiers, and for a moment, they didn’t dare to make a move on us. I could tell from the nervousness in their eyes. They could definitely sense that Agares was a dangerous creature that they wouldn’t be able to deal with easily.

For example if I wasn’t here, escaping this encirclement wouldn’t be a big problem for Agares, maybe it would have been better if we acted separately. However if anything happens to me in this timeframe, how would my fate change in the future? Does that mean I wouldn’t exist anymore in this time space continuum? 6JTU1

I stared at the side of his face anxiously thinking, hesitating whether to push him away or not, but I immediately dispel such thoughts, because I wouldn’t be able to bear the pain of separating from him again and any misfortunes that we may encounter if we worked separately, I’d rather brave the with the brush of death with him by my side.

As though hearing my inner thoughts, Agares suddenly whispered in a low voice by my ear, “We’ll… obey them.”

As he said that, he swept a glance in the direction of the boat that was used to capture the younglings, and all at once, I understood what he wanted to do. Agares wanted to wipe the enemy’s internal section, and besides in this current moment, there were no better alternatives to escape. There’s a possibility of Japanese soldiers stationed nearby. Seeing the Japanese soldiers getting closer and closer, I knew that if we still didn’t show any signs of surrendering, they would use the bayonet at the tip of their guns to make us obey. Thinking about how sensationalized and brutal Japanese soldiers behaved back in WWII made me feel chilly. I immediately raised both my hands, stood in front of Agares, blocking him, and shouted in Japanese, “Don’t hurt us! We aren’t hostile, please don’t shoot, this mermaid won’t hurt you!”

“Get him onto the shore!” A nearby Japanese soldier shouted as he prodded the gun barrel towards me, the sharp tip of the bayonet right in front of me. In an instant, deep growl resonated from Agares’s throat and I was suddenly pulled back as he grip the edge of the blade. He propped his tail and suddenly he was standing at two metres tall, lifting up the soldier from the sand all at once and threw him aside to the coral reef, making him roll into the sea!

“Agares!”

I let out a cry while a commotion started around us as they started drawing closer, the clicking of guns reloading sounded one after another, I hastily stood in front of Agares to protect him. As we backed up to the coral reef, Agares leaned down and coiled his fishtail around my body, dragging me behind him, afterwards he copied me and raised both arms, imitating what I spoke in Japanese, spitting out a string of ambiguous yet distinguishable words. “We will… Not attack…”

The soldiers stood still foolishly in shock, only some of them exclaimed out softly in surprise, “Oh my God, this mermaid is able to speak our Human language! He’s surrendering to us!”

Maybe this was Agares’s line of thought, because his range of actions was honestly a little stupid, it wasn’t like him at all. I took a quick glance at him, and found out that he was still continuing his silly behaviour, going so far in his act that he made a ‘stop’ gesture above his head, just where did he learnt it from. My heart thumped. I reached out my hand and tentatively touched his chin, as though I was trying to appease an irritated seal, making some mouth sounds that even I felt that was stupid.

Agares shot me a sullen glance, as though he received some sort of insult, however he didn’t show it. Instead, he lowered his body in coordination and pushed his head into my hand, nudging his sharp ears against my palms
Agares glanced sullenly at me, like he had just been humiliated, but he didn’t let it show. Instead, he lowered his body and shoved his head in between my arms, rubbing his pointy ears against my palm. He peaked up at me, an indistinguishable growl rumbled out from his throat, his appearance of a head chief gone. Oh God, this is seriously too funny! However compared to having the opportunity to teach these bad guys a firm bitter lesson, the price for acting stupid isn’t a big deal right? I secretly consoled myself, feeling baffled as I looked at the scene before my eyes, it felt like watching a fierce lion suddenly turn into a cute cat. My whole body felt stiff, but I had no choice other than to direct this marvelous movie.

“I’m really sorry, just now that person scared him which was why he acted that way! Look, he listens to me! We surrender, we’ll follow you.” AjczP3

I said to the hesitant Japanese soldiers and patted Agares on the head, turning Agares’s beautiful silver hair into a mess. Agares took advantage of this and buried his head deeper into my chest, peaking out with a side glance. It honestly wouldn’t be an exaggeration if I were to say he passed as a frightened young girl, however his strong and sturdy body made me roll my eyes. Honestly, if it wasn’t for the grim situation at hand, I would’ve thought that Agares was deliberately messing with me. It seemed that our actions have deemed us as non-threatening, as with a signal from who seemed to be an Officer, the surrounding Japanese soldiers withdrew their guns, instead, they hand in hand took out a fishing net and surrounded us, wrapping us up.

The feeling of being wrapped in the fishing net was unbearable, the moment I was hauled into the air by dozens of hands, the feeling of restlessness accompanied by sudden disappearance of gravity made my nerves jump rapidly, involuntarily making me cling tightly to Agares’s waist, inhaling his intoxicating scent. He extended his arm, wrapping me firmly in his embrace. His thick and powerful arm passed made a hole to allow his tail to cover my back, as though penetrating through my body to wrap around my heart. This made me feel as though the former Agares have returned, or rather they have merged into one whole being, no matter in which timeline, Agares would still remember me, be it clear or not, his instinct to protect me has already been ingrained in him.

Through the holes of the net, I saw the Japanese soldiers going through a forest, bringing us to somewhere. From the top of trees to the ground, burnt bodies everywhere, you could say that it was littered with corpses. Thin veils of smoke continued to rise from the unrecognizable remains. From within the fishnet, I looked up towards the dark scattered clouds in the gloomy sky, not knowing when the sky started pouring as rain drops passed through the mottled leaves, landing on my cheek. In my heart, an enormous sour feeling started to conjure. I started to think of my family back home, wondering if they, in a different dimension, were looking in the sky thinking of me, while I’m a thousand of miles away from them, probably never will be able to return to their sides, to be a filial son to them. Damn it, I had nothing now, except for the one beside me who I had given up everything for, this someone who I don’t know when would recognize who’s lover am I.

I shut my eyes, willing myself to cease my wailing thoughts. Agares seemed to sense my thoughts and pushed the fishnet to widen it so he could turn his head around to stare into my eyes. It could’ve just been my imagination from my swaying vision, but I felt like I caught a sight of pain gleaming in his eyes. His mouth started to move, and in a low voice he muttered the words he said countless times to me, “Don’t be scared…” 0FW21j

With great difficulty, he moved his webbed claws from the hole and placed it on my cheek, pushing it so that my head would rest on his chest. I could hear the heavy thumps of his pulse vibrating through his moist chest into my ear drums, and in that moment, I suddenly had an intense longing for him like what happened before, for him to add my name at the end of his every sentence, like he was repeating that I was his, damn it, just when did I started to indulge in being marked like this?

Damn and double damn, Desharow.

Chrysanthemum Garden.

“What’s this?” A voice of a middle aged male floated from the front. The Japanese soldiers who were transporting us stopped, from afar, another voice sounded. “Reporter Dazou, while we were patrolling the west coast, we chanced upon a Merman and a White man.”

“Oh?” The addressee ‘Dazou’ was perplexed. I turned my head, and saw a middle aged man who was dressed distinctively different from the soldiers, making his way towards us. He briskly walked up to us, sizing both me and Agares before his face suddenly changed. Brandishing his hand, shouting, “Hurry, this is the black scaled mermaid Doctor Ye was looking for! Separate this White man away from him and take him to the concentration camp for POWs.” FS3O6Q

“No! Mister, please do not separate us, he’s an uncontrollable beast, only I’m able to tame him!” My heart jumped in fright, shouting as I gripped the net, the man called ‘Dazou’ had a fierce expression plastered on his face before lifting his feet up and kicked me roughly, but I was spared from it barely as Agares jumped and blocked it with his fishtail, the sharpness of his tail tore through the tough net easily, creating a hole and causing a deep gash on Dazou’s upper thighs. Which in turn made him shirek miserably and retreat back, not falling only due to the soldiers supporting him, utterly discomfited, he pulled out an military grade knife and seemed to have the intention of chopping off Agares’s tail however hesitated with a moment of consideration before sheathing it back in, his complexion paling. “Fast! Hurry and get it to Doctor Ye’s place, this is a tricky situation.”

As soon as the words left his mouth, the fishnet wrapped around us swayed violently from the trottering of Japanese soldiers as they made their way, if it wasn’t for how Agares’s claw was wrapped around my body, I would have nearly vomited. While still recovering from dizziness, our surroundings slowly became more clamorous as we entered what seemed to be a dimly lit air-raid shelter, passing by a row of soldiers and army doctors wearing white coats at one side before finally stopping in front of a sliding metal door.

Looking at the metal door, the grey metal showed an eerie luster with a serial number painted in deathly white drawn across on it: A-701. The string of numbers instantly ticked my nerves like some sort of electrical current, unexpectedly finding it familiar, like I’ve seen it somewhere before. But just where? I carefully searched through my memory for relevant clues, my memory is matchless, except for things caused by mental trauma (fragments of memories regarding Agares). If I really use my head and think, I’m able to recall everything since I was a child until now with great detail.

Without delay, I realized where I’ve encountered this number——it appeared once before in my Grandfather’s journal clipped on top of a picture. In that picture he was standing beside a man, behind him was this exact door. Just as so, I suddenly recalled something. The person standing beside my Grandfather, was that perverted, madman of a scientist, Shinichi. hZlQik

In one moment, all my hair stood on ends. Just as I was trying to uncover what this implied, the metal door opened up loudly. Dust flew everywhere under the cold icy light in the air-raid shelter and a few dark figures slowly emerged from the metal door. Once they settled Agares and me onto the ground, a few Japanese soldiers came to wrap our bodies up firmly in chains, and instantly, two guys donning protective suits who seemed to be experimenters came running out from the door and took the chance to inject something into Agares’s arm. I tried to struggle so I could prevent them from touching Agares, but due to how tightly I was restrained, I couldn’t move a muscle. In contrast, Agares was extremely calm. He merely looks upon the people fussing over him from top to bottom disdainfully, like a shark looking at parasites trying to attach themselves to it.

Concomitantly, I felt his webbed claws which could only move slightly at this point curl around my wrist, the strength used in his grasp was firm, there was no sign of trembling nor weakness. His fingers moved along my palms with hidden implications, his eyes lingered on my face, significantly looking at me momentarily, like he was silently saying that he won’t be affected by any drugs they’ve injected, that he will try keeping me safe, to which I nodded. He then put on an act by closing his eyes, his face askewing to appear more docile, just like the first time on the boat when I injected him with a tranquilizer.

Light dawned on me. He was immune to man-made drugs, it’s only those electrical nets the Nazis’ used back at the island that is able to subdue him! So he was pretending to be affected by the anesthesia I used on him, so that I would approach him carelessly for him to… This old sly fish! (Hold on, I shouldn’t be thinking about this stuff right now!)

Then, I was dragged out of the net by a few Japanese soldiers, they probably decided that they wouldn’t want to waste their dosage of anesthesia on me as I was only being guarded with a bayonet. Being dragged alone like this made shame wash over my body because from top to bottom, I wasn’t wearing any article of clothing. My body still had remaining marks of ‘extreme sports’ with Agares, garnering looks of scorn, surprise and contempt from the soldiers. Perhaps I should be glad I wasn’t female, else I might suffer thrice-fold more than I am right now. rR2S4I

“What’s your nationality?”

I heard a man’s voice questioning from my left, followed by pacing footsteps coming right before me. Following the source of sound, I saw the person who asked was Shinichi, following behind him within the crew of several scientists was his son, Yukimaru.

Yukimaru’s face showed obvious surprise as he looked at me. I was certain that he knew I was the silver merman that they had captured, but for unknown reasons, he didn’t say anything. Furthermore, Shinichi and his crew couldn’t recognize me, perhaps it was because only Yukimaru managed to get a close look at my face, or probably because half my bangs covered my face.

“What nationality are you? Do you not understand English, white man?” Shinichi repeated as he approached me with a sullen face. My Chin was lifted by the gun’s barrel, forcefully lifting my head to meet his eyes. h5sOJr

“German.”

After circling the thoughts in my head, I answered firmly. They wouldn’t recklessly injure their allies, and they mustn’t know I’m actually German. No, calling myself a Soviets would be more correct. Since it’s like this, there was a high probability that they might mistake me for a Soviet soldier who came scouting for information. God knows how appalling their apaling interrogation methods are. Goosebumps immediately rose as I recalled how facist interrogated their enemies back in WWII. Russian and German have similar pronunciation, so if there are no Germans in this place…

“Is he your companion you brought along for gathering battle reports, Mr Reporter?”

Shinichi questioned, glancing back. Yukimura and a few other crew members gave way to someone and that was when my eyes landed on a figure that I didn’t take notice before, that was until now. My blood turned to ice, for the figure——was Rhine. yirs7

I stood in a daze fleetingly for this I couldn’t have anticipated, that I would meet my nightmare manifesting as a person in another timeline. He dons a cap, visible scars on his face and neck, his complexion ghastly pale, and one of his arms was thickly wrapped with bandages, from this I could tell he clashed with the spider mermaid. I really couldn’t comprehend how Rhine’s vitality was as tenacious as poisonous insects in the gutter. His blue eyes glowed under the brim of his hat, like a revived vampire catching sight of blood. “Yes, Dr Ye”

My heart dropped to the pits of my stomach, I couldn’t tell which was worse if I were to fall into Rhine’s hands or the Japanese soldiers. I suddenly heard a cold laughter. “Is that so, then tell me why he looks so much like my old Soviet friend, Dr Levjet? Take this ‘reporter’ and throw him into the concentration camp!”

“Yes Sir!”

Once he had finished speaking, Rhine’s face turned to a different shade, and as a few Japanese soldiers immediately came forward to hold him firmly, he shouted. “Wait a moment, there’s definitely some sort of mistake!”
I stared in shock as I heard all these, not because of the sudden change in situation, but because of the name that had been spoken——Levject, that was my grandfather’s name. gzqvi3

“How are you related to Dr.Levjet? His younger brother, or older one?” Using the envelope in his hand, Shinichi lifted my chin, his glasses reflected light. “You and him look way too similar, especially these sets of eyes that shine like black pearls, I’m definitely correct.

“Father…” Yukimura grabbed his shoulder, seemingly hesitant, but once he looked at me his expression changed, shutting his mouth. He definitely had some burning questions directed towards me. Perhaps maybe that within this whole lot of people, there was still someone who had their morals intact, and that at the bottom of his heart lies a kind-hearted person. I threw him a pleading gaze, but got startled and quickly averted his gaze.

“Give him something to wear, Yukimura. First, send him to the POW concentration camp, bring him back here when night falls.”

“Yes, Doctor.” Yukimura replied, he walked up to my side and draped a white coat over me, leading the soldier who was holding me up out the door, both him and I looked back at the laboratory almost at the same time, I was looking at Agares, and I knew Yukimura was concerned about Asura, we looked at each other tacitly mutually, he pursed his lips shyly, looking restless. haCgfs

At that moment, I was almost convinced that Yukimura would be the biggest breakthrough in this game of chess, that was about to come into a dead end.

I- I'm really sorry for this late update >< :blobsmilesweat::blobsweats:

I wanted to cut this chapter in half and give a little cliffhanger, but that’d be mean. OtJaG5
