“Desharow!?”

At this moment, I heard a familiar shout. My back was grabbed by one hand, and another went under my armpit to support my swaying body. I looked up just to see Rhine looking at me with wide, incredulous eyes. I know I must’ve looked miserable, cutting a sorry figure, and I know just how much I didn’t want to fall into his capturing hand while in such a sorrowful state. However, right now, there was not much else I could care about. The pain rendered my legs to lose their center of gravity, and I had no other choice but to lean against Rhine’s body as he then squatted down to carry me up in one shot.

“Where are you injured?” ht9E J

Rhine hurriedly asked while carrying me into the cabin in long strides.

Soon I was laid onto a cabin’s bed by Rhine, and the doctor on board also quickly rushed over. Although I was extremely reluctant to expose my injuries, there seems to be no better choice at the moment. And so like a patient with hemiplegia, I was butt naked while the doctor examined my lower half. The only good thing was that Rhine did not insist on staying to observe my miserable condition. It was only when my injuries were all bandage up did he open the door to come in. I clearly saw the doctor who walked past Rhine, shook his head and whispered something. Rhine’s face immediately showed a look of surprise, and he quickly came to my bedside, lifted the sheet on me and looked at my bandaged below.

—My lower half must’ve looked quite comical right now, or at least I thought it was exceedingly funny. Though I couldn’t laugh at all. The corner of my mouth merely lifted rigidly. “Thank you, Rhine, please leave me alone to rest.”

“You’re actually thanking me?” Rhine bent down, reached his hand out, seemingly wanting to touch my hair, but I avoided it with a turn of my head. I smiled politely in reluctance to show my sincere thanks and stared at him guardingly, because I was not ruling out the possibility that this pervert would do something to me in this situation. “What did the doctor say to you? I want to know how serious my condition is.”

After asking so, I held my breath in fear that Rhine would tell me some bad news.

“Who’s the one that laid such a heavy hand on you?” Rhine didn’t answer me directly, instead he retorted. I realized that he didn’t see what had happened and I immediately felt less embarrassed. I shrugged and kept my mouth shut, not answering. However, he captured my wrist forcefully and looked unblinkingly at me. In his eyes, he held visible traces of dotingness and love that made one’s hair stand up. His hand brushed over my chin like he was tracing a portrait, and a sapphire inlaid ring he wore on his middle finger suddenly jumped into my line of sight, making my eyelids twitch.

That actually was a merfolk’s spore! Astonished, I stared at him rigidly and grabbed at his hand out of conditioned reflex. Rhine looked at me in confusion, obviously a little surprised by my reaction. My heart thumped and I realized that he may not be aware what the stone really was. I quickly released his fingers, but he easily caught my wrist and stared at me keenly. A sinister, perverse color rose in his clear glass like blue eyes. In an instant, my heart suddenly fell down and I immediately became very vexed. GoSwAV

“Oh, so you like this thing, my little Wallace?” He asked in the similar tone he used to have when he was my former mentor. While he examined my expression in inquiry, he simultaneously took off the ring containing the merfolk spore and put it on my ring finger with a graceful smile like the elegant demeanour of a gentleman. My hand twitched—disgusted by him. If it wasn’t because I really wanted to get back the thing belonging to Agares, I would have ruthlessly punched him already.

But I dared not to do that. I mechanically pulled back my hand and felt awkward, not knowing what to say. The ring now worn on my ring finger burned like a soldering iron, making my whole hand feel uncomfortable. However, Rhine was merely observing my expression with interest. I didn’t know if he had misunderstood something or was thinking about how to harness me, but whether it was the former or the latter, one thing could be confirmed by his current reaction: he knew nothing about the thing on this ring. I might as well turn this defense into an offense, so as to not let myself fall into a completely passive situation. This was one of the negotiation skills I learned during my two years under Kolov. Rhine had certain demands that were worth me bargaining with—and if I wanted to go to the radiation point to meet up with Agares, I’d have to work with them.

“Do you want to know what this is, Rhine? Or do you guys want to gain more?” I propped myself up a bit, wanting to sit up. Unfortunately, the pain from below caused me to fall back, and I ended up landing into Rhine’s arm that he had moved there.

“Yes, but I want to know more whether you’d be willing to be together with me. Don’t refuse me thousands of miles away. You need someone to take care of you, because right now, I’m afraid that going to the toilet or even taking a bath will require someone’s help.” XbLZJU

He said this in a half threatening and half comforting tone, but I felt as if my mental state had been stabbed by a nail. I waved his arm away and glared at him, “Don’t make it sound like I am a handicapped person, Rhine. I don’t want to discuss this with you.” I raised the ring on my hand, speaking a verse at a time clearly, “Take me with you to the destination you guys wanted to go. Believe me, I am more useful than you guys think.”

Then I made a gesture to my ear, and the emotion in Rhine’s eyes fluctuated with a streak of light. I believed his impression on my mutation from two years ago was still very profound. He abruptly grabbed my hand and pressed his knees against my legs to lightly suppress them, kissing the knuckle of the finger that wore the ring. I fisted my hand, resisting the urge to just beat him up, because I knew that if I were to behave atrociously on his turf, it would be me who would suffer.

“Of course, I know that. You’ve always been useful, my little genius.” He exclaimed. There was a hint of tender affection penetrating from his voice, however, I distinctly felt that behind his smile hid a faint desire for cruelty. “It’s just that before, I was reluctant to let you work your usefulness, unwilling for you to turn into a beautiful yet helpless merman, just like that bait, Shinichi, had been. But later, I found out how suitable it is for you to become a merman. You are a natural work of art, even if you are badly damaged. I will still gently and carefully protect you…..”

“You big pervert!” I finally could not endure anymore and yelled out. The humiliated nausea made me uncontrollable and angry, but at the same time, I quickly detected something from what he just said. Thinking of what I met on the ghost ship in the phantom magnetic field, that purple-tailed merman, a conjecture in my heart quickly formed, “Yukimura… The merman used by Shinichi, is he still in your hands? Is he on… this ship?” HQR8pT

Rhine raised an eyebrow, “What’s the matter?”

“Damn it…” I cursed. The more I thought about it, the more I felt that the series of appalling events that just occured confirmed my conjecture. The purpose of the purple-tailed merman that attacked me and had allowed me to see the illusion of the past might’ve just been trying to send some sort of message to me. It came purposely for Yukimura.

I had an inkling feeling that keeping Yukimura trapped on this ship would bring inconceivable trouble, “You guys should let him go…. Or else it will invite those things here…”

I subconsciously looked out the window next to me and, unexpectedly, caught a glimpse of a rotten, ghostly face in the dark. It quickly flashed behind the glass. In that instant, goosebumps flared-up from all over my body, and even Rhine’s face suddenly changed color. He obviously saw it, too. NH3Vw0

Translator's Note

It’s a phrase to say, “Don’t reject me so resolutely.” Basically thousand miles away = no room for negotiation. Get it?

  1. Thank you for this new chapter! I hope Desharow can recover from his injury. I wonder if Agares targeted that particular place to keep his subconscious mind from hurting his love, Desharow. Guess Rhine is still a nasty piece of work but a t least he saved our Desharow and the others. Can’t wait to see how it all works out!

  2. seems like translator has dropped this wonderful story and translating no more. more than a week now and no new chapter.
