I read the mtl version and even with all the broken translation, the pain was hard to bear. Reading the clean translation really just makes me so depressed and sad for Gu Qingchi.
He never deserved any of the pain and suffering that keeps being pushed on him. Yet his family relatives have been so cruel to him, and even though Mrs. Gu doesn’t mean to hurt him, I still think the way she treats him so softly and gently must hurt so bad because it reminds him of what he lost when he got transmigrated, and what he can never have in this new lifetime. It’s almost a stark reminder of how badly his lot in life was drawn in this world he found himself in to the point that all he got was indifference, hatred, loathing and disgust from the moment he found himself in this world.
