I moved back to mine and Zhao Gongzi’s apartment, then went to get our dog back from Jin Xian’er. Jin Xian’er was unwilling to return him. When we were at his door he told us that Hamm had run away by accident once when the door was open. Just as he finished speaking, the sound of a dog barking came from inside. We all felt very awkward.
Jin Xian’er could only open the door and let Hamm out.
Hamm came out and wagged his tail when he saw me and Zhao Gongzi, then once he finished wagging his tail he stuck to Jin Xian’er’ legs. He wouldn’t let go even if we dragged him. Now, we were even more awkward.
Zhao Gongzi said, “Let him continue taking care of it, this way we save money.”
It’s true that we should save money now, Master Zhao Si isn’t giving Zhao Gongzi any allowance anymore. What’s more, he didn’t let him continue working as a manager and his office was even given to Hao Da.
But I don’t believe we need to be too worried though, Hao Da was going to be scared to death by Zhao Gongzi’s expression very soon.
But Zhao Gongzi was very worried, when he went and helped me move my luggage back home, he observed the place I’d been renting earlier. Then he had nightmares for a full week, afraid that he and I would have to move into a place like that when we ran out of money.
I comforted him, but he still didn’t want to believe it. And so I didn’t know how to tell him that when we ran out of money we very likely wouldn’t even be able to afford a place like that.
Before things got to that level, I decided not to tell him.
Master Zhao Si thought that the nursery was too small, and wasn’t big enough to house his darling daughter. So, he told Zhao Gongzi to take his stuff from his room at the manor and move it down to the attic with Zhao San, Zhao Wu and Qiu Yixin’s stuff. Zhao Gongzi was no longer his obedient, considerate youngest child, that infant who could only blow bubbles was.
We took advantage of the time when Master Zhao Si wasn’t at home to go over and clear out the stuff, and I saw the marathon champion trophy.
I have some not-so-great memories.
At that time, I was too jealous of Zhao Gongzi. Not only was I jealous that he’d gotten first place, I was also jealous that Master Zhao Si had paid from his own pocket and gotten through with the marathon community to switch the first-place trophy with one that was made out of pure gold, in order to reward him for getting his first and very possibly last first place.
Good thing that I had pushed Zhao Gongzi, and hadn’t accepted his yield back then, otherwise I would have become a first-place winner with a gilded gold trophy, and Zhao Gongzi would have become the second-place winner with a pure gold trophy. The newspapers would have mocked me for a month.
Zhao Gongzi really was annoying.
That day, I was keeping a fake smile on and trying to appear cheerful. At night, when I could finally go to my room, I found that the trophy was on my desk.
In order to prevent others from saying I’d stolen the trophy out of jealousy, I took the trophy to Zhao Gongzi’s room and asked him what the situation was.
Zhao Gongzi said, “You have so many trophies, why don’t you just put them together? I just have this one anyway, so there’s no fucking use in keeping it.”
I didn’t want it, so I put it on his desk, then walked away.
He swore at me, “Fucking hell, do you have a problem?! Don’t you want it? If you want it then just fucking take it!”
“If you didn’t participate, then I would have won.”
“Do you have a problem?! Obviously Laozi is going to participate, gotta anger you to death! If you have the guts, then hit Laozi!”
This type of invitation was really interesting, so I punched him.

We started fighting again.
As we fought, I was done in by him.
The next day we both awoke to the sounds of things being smashed. There were many people crowded around the sofa. The scene was very awkward, and also very dangerous.
Why didn’t I really die yesterday night when I thought that I was going to die? Why couldn’t Zhao Gongzi have gone to his bedroom to sleep? Why is the Earth round? Why is the Sun hot? Why is everyone just staring at us? Why can Zhao Gongzi cover my face with only one hand?
Master Zhao Si had almost beaten me to death.
Zhao Gongzi said that yesterday he bumped into some weirdo who seemed to be someone Master Zhao Si had gone on a date with. That person insisted on dragging Zhao Gongzi somewhere to have a drink, then once he finished drinking he went home and found that I was asleep on the sofa. He thought back to the way that I usually riled him up, and so the darkness and alcohol made him furious, the rage made him brave, the bravery made him turn towards evil, and so he wanted to take advantage of such a good opportunity and do me in, and then successfully did me in.
Forced by the situation, and also because yesterday night I drank too much, I even wondered if what he said was what had actually happened. So I nodded and said, yes that’s right, that’s what happened.
Master Zhao Si was still angry, but a call came and interrupted him. It was the mayor, so he had no choice but to lock me and Zhao Gongzi in the office and go take the call.
After he’d left, Zhao Gongzi looked at me. “What are you thinking? Let’s chat.”
This is the first time that he suggested having a chat with me, if this chat didn’t go well, this could well become the last time in my life that I’d ‘chat’ with someone.
And so I thought about it for a long time and said, “Last night we were both drunk.”
Zhao Gongzi interrupted me, “I wasn’t drunk.”
“Then what were you thinking?” I asked.
“Fuck, I’m asking you what you were thinking.”
“In this new era, there are new ideologies and worldviews, we shouldn’t be too traditional and backwards.”
Zhao Gongzi coldly asked, “What do you mean?”

Just as I was about to ask him what he ‘got’, Master Zhao Si opened the door and walked in, then asked, “What do you ‘get’, hmm?”
Zhao Gongzi straightened his back and continued to kneel. He said he’d suddenly changed his mind. At first, he only wanted to give me some money and tell me to scram, but now he decided he wanted to marry me.
Master Zhao Si said, “You’re fucking crazy!”
Zhao Gongzi said that even if they beat him to death, he wasn’t going to change his mind.
I was afraid that Master Zhao Si was going to beat me to death!
Master Zhao Si did indeed want to beat me to death. He got people to drag Zhao Gongzi out of the room and got others to put a burlap bag on my head, in preparation for throwing me into the ocean and drowning me.
Zhao Gongzi screamed and screeched with all his heart, and finally got Thirteenth Madame to arrive.
Thirteenth Madame was thankful towards me for having helped Zhao Gongzi slim down as well as many other things, added with seeing as how torn up Zhao Gongzi was about it, plus, the resentment and anger that was caused by Master Zhao Si going on a date with a lady who worked at customs two weeks ago rose to the forefront of her mind– all this stacked together and caused extreme discontent in her heart. And so, she burst out.
I was locked away in the basement. Zhao Gongzi was dragged away by Master Zhao Si to some other location to break one of his arms. He then came down to the basement to open the door with a cast on.
If this was a movie, then he and I would have hugged each other while romantic music played in the background, then kissed and gotten entangled together. But we did not do that, not only because I believed that this was a huge misunderstanding, but also because I hate being locked down in the basement.
So when he opened the door, I was recalling, face filled with terror, my childhood traumas in a dark corner of the basement. The instant that the light shone in from the opened door, I was not only extremely excited, but my eyes were also pierced by the light, and my tears started to fall uncontrollably.
I didn’t even get to explain before Zhao Gongzi had already further misunderstood.
He turned his head back and shouted, word by word, to Master Zhao Si, “I’m! Not! Breaking! Up! With! Him! Anymore! I’m! Going! To! Marry! Him! Even! If! You! Beat! Us! To! Death!!”
Master Zhao Si’s expression darkened, and I sincerely cried in fear.

Trapped by morals, though mainly because of threats and bribes, because of all these numerous reasons, Zhao Gongzi and I started living together.
Reminiscing about the past is really unbearable.
Zhao Gongzi asked me, “What are you thinking about, looking at that trophy?”
“I’m thinking that you really are very annoying.”
Zhao Gongzi cursed at me, “Fu——mph.”
I wiped my mouth with my hand, then continued moving things.
Zhao Gongzi muttered softly, “What a weirdo.”
