Ever since Jiang Yunshu took the initiative to hold Bai Tang’s hand to sleep that night, Bai Tang had resolved to follow the words “make progress” in his heart.
Today, Jiang Yunshu completed the day’s tasks ahead of schedule. He crossed off the last item in his notebook before gingerly climbing into bed. Over the past seven days, they’d been inseparable, always holding hands, and even sharing the same bed. And now it’s time for a breakthrough!

A month later, the “Second Star’s Omega Assistance Foundation” was established, declaring that any omega in need could contact them. It caused a huge public uproar.
During the same month, serious conflicts arose between alphas and betas. A large-scale parade was held in a busy central area, with 98% of the participants being betas. They yelled slogans and waved flags while holding banners. It said things like, “Betas must stand up!”, “Weaken alpha rights!”, “Create an equal and fair atmosphere for betas!” and so on.
The cops had to use force to disperse the individuals who had taken over a whole street.
As a result, the betas congregated again the following day, and their numbers even rose. As time passed, more and more betas joined the protest.
Several ecstatic betas also surrounded the alpha cops and some of the beta cops became influenced by the excitement and took off their uniforms, then marched in the parade.
The federal authority did not resort to using force to prohibit the parade until the 5th day. Two male betas were shot dead, and over 50 demonstrators were imprisoned to effectively end the protest, but it backfired, only to just fuel the betas’ rage even more.
As the procession was over for good on the third day, alphas started to go out again gradually.
One of the affected victims, who was unwilling to be an alpha, was Jiang Yunshu, who carried a self-defence tool in his bag as he went to Huachuan University to report. The university, obviously, assigned him to ICH.
He and Bai Tang also settled into a new flat that Jiang Yunshu had scouted out long before.
When Heitang first moved into their new home, it marked its territory by peeing under the dining room table. After a lesson from Bai Tang, who pinched its ears, Heitang retreated to the corner.
Bai Tang had to spend some money on some thin woollen ropes in order to hang the photos on the wall of the living room because he couldn’t possibly bring the hollow shelf full of their pictures.
Several photographs of the alpha have been put to the photo wall over this time period. There were mostly candid photographs taken by Bai Tang, taken from the omega’s perspective as he relaxed on the bed in the soft yellow glow.
Bai Tang spent an hour clipping all the photographs. The one in the middle was still a household registration booklet, which had been flipped to the page where the photos were.

For a rare moment after eating, the two sat together and watched TV. Bai Tang was enjoying the comedy segment when the screen went white and the sizzle of electrical current could be heard.
Bai Tang straightened up then asked, “What’s happening? Is it broken?”
Suddenly, the screen distorted.
“Good evening everyone.” On the screen, a thin and emaciated man with glasses appeared, his surroundings resembling a news conference setting. “I’m Li Tangqi, a beta. I apologise for taking up everyone’s time, but I hope you will bear with me as I speak.”
After flipping across multiple channels, Jiang Yunshu found that they were all broadcasting the same thing.
“In this world, betas account for 85% of the population, omegas for 5%, and alphas for 10%. But, because alphas are generally physically powerful and have exceptional abilities, they became the rulers of this world as if it was to be expected.”
Bai Tang was taken aback. Though thin, the man made quite an impression, and his voice had the ability to strike at the heart of people’s resolve. “Why do I have the feeling he seems familiar…?” Bai Tang pondered.
“I have been battling for the betas’ well-deserved rights,” Li Tangqi continued. “This has led some alphas to block me, harass me, and even threaten me on a personal level. About a month ago, I was battered and gravely injured, necessitating my admission to the intensive care unit. Yet my assailant came out only after after 15 days in detainment———”
Li Tangqi was furious and indignant, but also sorrowful. “Just because he’s an alpha!”

Bai Tang sought the alpha’s advice yesterday. “Dr. Jiang, if someone asks, can I tell them you’re my brother?” He wasn’t worried that introducing Jiang Yunshu would be humiliating in and of itself, but rather that it would have the same effect as he had experienced in high school.
It made no difference to Jiang Yunshu. He also believed that it was best for Bai Tang. “Okay.”
The roommates nodded but said nothing.
After Jiang Yunshu left, one of his roommates asked, “Bai Tang, is that your boyfriend?”
“Huh?” Bai Tang’s eyes widened, flustered.
“It’s all right,” they said. “We’re not super anti-alpha haters or anything.”
Only then did Bai Tang feel relieved, and admitted in a low voice, “S-Sort of…”
He added curiously, “How do you know?”
