Each of the regions get a set number of seeds, each seed is tiered. For LPL, winning LPL Summer Playoffs means getting the first seed, the team that has accrued the most championship points over the season that was not automatically qualified will get the second seeds, the third and fourth seeds will be determined at the Regional Finals. This will probably appear in the future as the Championship is somewhere in the novel 🙂
What does that mean? According to my research, it means that the best teams of each region will not face each other during the Championship Main Event.
In the Championship Main Event, there are four pools/ group stage, and no region can have more than one team in a pool, and each pool cannot have the same seed tiered. So the team that won first seed in North America will not be playing against the team that won first seed in China, and two Korean teams will not eliminate each other off during the group stage. This is to prevent strong teams from eliminating each other in the beginning of the tournament, and reduce redundancy since the teams in the same region already fought each other for the placement/ seeds.
Let me know if this is wrong, back when I followed LOL, I just watched the Championship without knowing the nitty-gritty.
