Yu Qinghuan was shocked into a daze.
Ren Jian did not expect the Empress Dowager to give such a shocking response and shouted after her, “Mother?!”
“Why are you shouting?” Mama Ren glared dagger at Ren Jian. “You do not approve?”
“Mother, our relationship has not reached that level yet. Please stop adding words in my mouth.” Ren Jian attempted to step in, “But…”
He suddenly looked at Yu Qinghuan and stated, “But, if you want, I am really willing to give you my game account.”
Yu Qinghuan understood now.
In the early years, the esports industry was not sustainable, and players often jokingly called their game accounts their wages, wealth, heirlooms or whatever.
Presumably, that was what Mama Ren meant just now.
Before Yu Qinghuan could breathe out anything, he heard Ren Jian continue to say to him, “I really hope you will keep persevering on. I can tell that you have never given up. I know this road to you is a sore spot, the shame of your past, the contempt and pain you do not want, but none of those matter, because I can help you, so do not worry too much, okay?”

But why?
Why was Ren Jian willing to treat himself so sincerely?
“Sniff…”
Suddenly, a sob interrupted Yu Qinghuan’s train of thought. He looked up and was startled.
Mama Ren’s eyes were filled with tears, weeping in a low voice.
Ren Jian and Yu Qinghuan were talking about esports.
But in the ears of Mama Ren, it was two people in love holding hands fearlessly!!!
Alas, my little bun has grown up and learned how to indulge a cabbage, how is he so good with words!
“Ms. Ren, are you all right?” Yu Qinghuan stood up in a flustered manner. Seeing that there was a tissue box on the tea table, he leaned over to get some, which coincided with what Ren Jian had in mind. They smacked each other’s head, and instantly saw stars in their eyes from the pain as they held their own heads and groaned.
“Pfff…” Mama Ren was amused by the two.
After they knocked their heads, Mama Ren had no more questions. She quickly brought out some ointment for promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis and gauze, applied the ointment on their hurting foreheads, and pressed a piece of gauze on their injuries. After she exhorted Ren Jian a few more words, she prepared to head back home.
Before leaving, she exchanged phone numbers with Yu Qinghuan, tugging on the young man’s hand, telling him that he could contact her for anything, before leaving begrudgingly.
Fearing that Yu Qinghuan could figure out what Mama Ren was hesitating about, Ren Jian pushed his mother out of the door.
Together with Yu Qinghuan, they sent Mama Ren to the entrance of the community and watched her get into a taxi. Only then did Ren Jian’s heart, which had been stuck in his throat, slowly returned above his stomach.
He took a long breath, turned to look at Yu Qinghuan, and found the other man in a daze.
No one had cared for him like this for a long time, Yu Qinghuan unknowingly recalled the summer he graduated from his last year of senior high school. He went to a scenic spot near the city with a group of classmates.
One of the exciting activities there was bungee jumping. To participate, one must sign a liability waiver. Because Yu Qinghuan and two other students were under the age of eighteen, they could not sign for themselves, they needed parents’ consent either through phone or video.
The two other students happily called home, leaving Yu Qinghuan alone, standing at a loss.
He could not call his mother who was out of the country, nor could he make a video call with his father who was mentally ill.
It was also that time that Yu Qinghuan suddenly realized.
If he was to get seriously injured, lying in the emergency room. There was no one he could find to sign his paperwork.
The translator has something to add:
Teo: The title of this chapter is a passage from 江上值水如海勢聊短述 by 杜甫, Du Fu, a great Tang dynasty poet. It roughly translates as the Water of this River as a Short Description of the Sea. The passage is 語不驚人死不休 or ‘I will not rest until my words are amazing’. It means poet will not rest until the words he write, the scene he captured in his poem, would wow the readers, as if the reader was really seeing the majestic imaginary he is describing.
Ah, my heart 💔
Thank you for your translation 🤍🤍🤍🤍
Thank you 💕
Thank You for the new chapter (♡ >ω< ♡)
Mama! Love! So poignant…. Ahhhh.
😔 Thanks for the chapter ❤️❤️
thank you for the chapter!
The last part made me cry 😢
Me too. 😢
The last bit – about not having anyone to sign paperwork – might seem minor, but it can have a huge psychological impact when you actually get seriously injured as a minor. The hospital (at least, here in the US), won’t touch you unless you’re literally dying, so you just end up sitting there in the ER lobby, bleeding and waiting for it to either become life threatening enough to qualify for unapproved care, or for someone to find out and show up to sign for you. Happened to me when I was twelve and nearly chopped my hand off in an accident.
The parent’s consent part 😭poor baby
