Jian Yi’s question was practically like a slap across Qin Shiyu’s face. A nameless flame inside Qin Shiyu’s heart instantly ignited, making him glare unconsciously at Jian Yi. However, Wen Xuan blocked in front of Jian Yi and calmly returned that gaze.
The two sides faced off in stalemate for a moment. Ultimately, Qin Shiyu was the one with the request, so he was the one who yielded first. Qin Shiyu then gave another glance at the badly mangled figure on the ice bed and suddenly lost all interest in continuing bickering with Wen Xuan and co. He only confirmed that Wen Xuan had agreed to his request and then brought these people out of the secret room and into the hall again to be waited on by maids.
However, Qin Shiyu still kept Jian Yi’s words in mind. As the maid poured him a cup of tea, he randomly said: “What do you know this time?”
Jian Yi didn’t bother answering. He only lifted his head and gave Qin Shiyu an ambiguous smile.
“Jian shidi,” Wen Xuan noticed the situation over here and hastily reached out a hand to squeeze Jian Yi’s shoulder, expressing his protection and concern.
In that instant, as Qin Shiyu saw the hand that Wen Xuan placed on Jian Yi’s shoulder, he suddenly felt like the question that Jian Yi had asked him previously didn’t slap across his face, but rather, slapped across his heart.
Instantly, Qin Shiyu felt somewhat indignant, somewhat perturbed and somewhat in denial. Fuming silently, he drank the tea in his hand and said his goodbyes, actually abandoning the room of guests and leaving first.
“Shixiong,” Finally, Jian Yi asked in a shameful tone: “Did I create more trouble again?”
Wen Xuan lightly patted him on the top of head, “It’s fine. You asked the right question.”
Jian Yi gave a glance towards the direction Qin Shiyu headed off to and laughed self-deprecatingly: “Who cares if I was right or wrong. It’s not like he’d listen,”
“How can you be sure?” Wen Xuan turned, “I think he’s very concerned.”
Jian Yi still didn’t believe it, holding a lot of contempt and disdain towards Qin Shiyu in his tone of voice and wording. He was familiar with the original text. Naturally Jian Yi knew how stubborn this main male protagonist was, always full of confidence towards his own judgment……
He didn’t even finish saying his words of contempt when an energy ripple suddenly came from the direction of the secret room.
He managed to determine that the magic which kept Xue BingEr frozen before seemed to have… defrosted?
It really did defrost, but only for a moment. Very quickly, it was refrozen by someone. However, in the mere moment of that defrost and then refrost, another stranger wave of energy transmitted over. This wave was even more intense. Even some of Wen Xuan’s subordinates who had just become yuan gathering felt it, revealing surprised expressions.
Jian Yi’s expression of disdain unconsciously became stupefied on his face.
Very quickly, Qin Shiyu returned back to the hall once again. This time, he charged right out, both eyes reddened. A glare landed on Jian Yi unblinkingly, carrying a hatred like he wanted to grind Jian Yi into dust.
“Cultivator Qin,” This time Wen Xuan didn’t block in front of Jian Yi, but instead stood by Jian Yi’s side: “There’s no need to take your anger out on others.”
These words instantly calmed Qin Shiyu down slightly. He spent quite some time pushing down the hate and pain in his eyes. But then he was flooded with an uncontrollable sorrow that crushed him so hard, both of his shoulders drooped.
A moment later, Qin Shiyu waved his hand and sent his guests away.
Even at this time, Jian Yi was still mystified and extremely incredulous.

That’s right. In the original, ‘she’ never had an opportunity to decide if she wanted to use someone else’s life to exchange for her own. When she finally was able to make the choice, that choice had already changed to ‘In order to revive you, I’ve already killed several people. Whether you want to live or die now, it’s up to you.’
Such a cruel and vicious decision, yet so flawless and indisputable? It was this kind of set up in the original novel that made Jian Yi believe Qin Shiyu was the type of person who couldn’t be persuaded, yet……
Wen Xuan said with a sigh: “Now she got her chance.”
For a moment, Jian Yi didn’t have a reply. That’s right. The strange wave of energy just now only had one explanation.
“Jian shidi, the change that people can make under different circumstances is more than you think,” Wen Xuan leaned close and patted Jian Yi’ shoulder: “The change that you can make with just one sentence is also more than you think.”
Jian Yi quietly listened to these words. He recalled the extremely sorrowful appearance Qin Shiyu had just now and faintly felt waves of shock in his heart.
Wen Xuan brought Jian Yi and that group of little demons back to their residence and went to write a letter to Murong Feng, regarding that heavenly demon horn.
Many days later, Qin Shiyu was able to purchase this item from Murong Feng’s hands.
Even more days passed. Wen Xuan was already planning to return to West Ming when Qin Shiyu suddenly arrived to pay a special visit.
This time, Qin Shiyu wasn’t alone. He brought a woman with him. Because the weather was cold, this woman wrapped herself tightly at first. It wasn’t until after she entered the room, and took over her hood that people could see her appearance clearly.
Xue BingEr.
From the haughtiness between her brows, it was very easy to tell that this was Xue BingEr, and not ‘her’.
“BingEr,” Qin Shiyu pointed at Wen Xuan and said: “You were saved this time all thanks to Cultivator Wen. What are you waiting for? Thank him.”
Slightly reluctant and somewhat awkward, Xue BingEr still ended up giving her greeting obediently and properly giving thanks.
The trouble that this woman caused many years ago was still fresh in Wen Xuan and Jian Yi’s memories. Suddenly receiving this courtesy, these two people didn’t even know how to respond.
However, after Xue BingEr gave thanks, she stood awkwardly for a moment and then stammered: “Back then I was young and inexperienced, arrogant and conceited, and did many wrong things. So please… please……” Ultimately, she wasn’t the type of person used to apologizing. The content of her remarks stumbled along for a while, but she still couldn’t say ‘please forgive me’ clearly in the end.
Wen Xuan and Jian Yi had already been stupefied. Why would they care about such trivial matters? Not to mention, what this woman experienced was tragic enough. Naturally, such a good person like Wen Xuan wouldn’t bother with that little disagreement in the past. Jian Yi, on the other hand, still wanted to bicker. Yet with the current circumstances, ultimately, he also wasn’t able to throw these words of apology back in Xue BingEr’s face and silently accepted them.
The reason Qin Shiyu brought her over was specifically to have her give thanks and reconcile with the two. Seeing the current resolution, he instantly became very happy. Then, Qin Shiyu left a floor full of gifts, took Xue BingEr and said their goodbyes.
As for the woman that Qin Shiyu originally wanted to save? Well. At that time, Qin Shiyu impulsively released the freezing magic for a second, wanting to converse with her briefly. He really held a hope in his heart that perhaps she could understand his good intentions. If it really didn’t work out, he could have refrozen her again anyways. Yet who knew that woman was so decisive and resolute. In that moment of opportunity, she didn’t say anything at all, instantly destroying her own soul and returning the body back to Xue BingEr.
With only Xue BingEr left, the heavenly demon’s horn was enough to save her.
Qin Shiyu wandered around despondent for several days. In the end, he still accepted the truth. At least Xue BingEr has followed him all of these years. To be able to save her was a good result as well. As for that woman, he once strived for so long, yet in the end, he couldn’t win against her own choice. When all was said and done, it was only a series of events through rose-tinted glass.
After these two people left, Jian Yi remained where he stood, still feeling quite incredulous.
Xue BingEr’s awkward apology and Qin Shiyu’s extremely sorrowful appearance overlapped each other and gave an irreconcilable feeling to Jian Yi like he just lost to the two people he once detested and disdained the most.
With this strange feeling of discontent, he spun around a few times where he stood, then suddenly lifted his head and looked at the sunlight shining in from the doorway.
With squinted eyes, Jian Yi looked at this sunlight for a moment, then picked up his foot and walked outside.
The cultivation world had been chaotic for several years. Good thing Qin Shiyu threw money and influence all over, bringing benefits to all. This part of the world was a bit more peaceful than other places.
Jian Yi flew up in the sky and aimlessly traveled around for a moment. He suddenly saw a cultivator laying in a valley, purple all over, only breathing out and not breathing in.
Jian Yi was immediately able to tell they’ve been poisoned. He flew by and went along on his way, but then ended up floating back anyway. Then he landed next to that cultivator’s side, took out the medicine he carried, and placed it into the other’s mouth. The medicine was very effective. Not long afterwards, that cultivator woke up moaning and groaning.
When Wen Xuan found him, Jian Yi and that cultivator already passed the point of ‘thank you’ and ‘no need for thanks’ and were conversing happily.
Jian Yi waved his goodbyes at that cultivator and walked back to Wen Xuan’s side with a smile.
“That’s……”
“The new friend I made.” Jian Yi answered very naturally.
Yet he didn’t know what kind of shockwave these words created in Wen Xuan’s heart. A new friend? Jian Yi only had Wen Xuan in his eyes before and had never made any friends once.
When they returned, Wen Xuan noticed even more differences.
Jian Yi was actually extremely friendly towards those little demons. It didn’t take long for them to integrate together. He even started referring to several familiar ones amongst them as cultivator brothers. If you must know, before, it was already good enough that Jian Yi didn’t view those who surrounded Wen Xuan as enemies. How could he be so amicable?
By the time evening came along, Wen Xuan finally couldn’t resist asking about it.
“There have been some changes…… I want to give it a try.” Jian Yi rubbed his head in embarrassment: “I want to try to…… walk out of it.”
So it’s like this. The words that Wen Xuan said those many days ago, Jian Yi really did end up listening. Wen Xuan couldn’t help but feel reassured.
Jian Yi turned his body, looking at the setting sun off in the distance.
He was probably thinking about something. After a while, he suddenly said: “Shixiong, I want to go back to Waxing Moon Island to take a look.”
This shock was no small matter. Waxing Moon Island. Wen Xuan has thought about these three words occasionally in the last few years as well as he silently hugged his tail in the middle of the night. However, he never could have imagined that Jian Yi would actually say these three words and say those kinds of words.
Wen Xuan nodded his head in gratification: “You should go take a look. You still……”
“Owe them an apology.” Jian Yi filled in the rest of the sentence himself.
Then Jian Yi remembered the things he once did and couldn’t help but fall silent. He was once stubborn in his ways, and thought that other than himself, everyone would only hurt Wen Xuan. Yet now he suddenly realized that… he was only deceiving himself. He was obsessed with the original novel only because the original had allowed him to believe that other than himself, Wen Xuan had no one at all.
If he didn’t take the original novel out of context and deliberately make Wen Xuan misunderstand the origin of all that suffering, who knows, maybe the people on Waxing Moon Island wouldn’t have lost their Island Leader?
Jian Yi took two steps forwards, like he was about to head into the setting sun.
At first, Wen Xuan was looking at Jian Yi in relief. However, seeing the setting sun elongate his back and shadow, Wen Xuan abruptly felt jittery in his heart.
His Jian shidi finally walked out, from that narrow small road that only had himself.
Will he go far away? Wen Xuan suddenly felt an unease rise in his heart.
However, just as this unease appeared, Jian Yi turned his head, held out a hand to Wen Xuan and said with a smile: “Shixiong, why don’t you come with me. If they knew you’re still alive, they’d definitely feel happy.”
Wen Xuan rested his hand on Jian Yi’s hand. Like he just stepped two feet on firm ground, Wen Xuan immediately felt his heart steady. That’s right. No matter how far his Jian shidi went, he will still remain by Wen Xuan’s side.
The setting sun elongated their shadows together as they stood shoulder to shoulder, just like the many days in the past.
However, some things were different than before. A moment later, the two shadows started to merge.
Jian Yi embraced Wen Xuan around the shoulder, biting him lightly on the neck.
“Shixiong, if I want to travel the world in the future, will you accompany me?”
“Of course.”
Wen Xuan gladly nodded his head, like he was making a lifelong promise.
–END–
haaaah… this was a real ride… I can’t help but feel a little empty when faced with this ending, but it is what it is. Since this was a pretty short story novel-wise, with such a complex world, I wish it was a little bit longer so we could really dive into the characters and see a more gradual development in their relationship and self-realization. There were a lot of characters that we got to see that I think would’ve added so much more to the plot if explored further. This was a pretty nice read. 😊❤️ Thank you for the translation 🙂
I agree with everything you’ve said.I also wish that the author could have at least taken one more chapter to update us on what all the other named characters got up to. I would have liked to know what happened with Murong Feng and her son, Elder Qi, Chu Lian, Waxing Moon Island and the Water Sect. I mean, I can guess for most of them but it would have been nice to have a couple lines mentioning that they are enjoying live/dead/murdered for being a horrible sect leader, etc.
I feel this, but at the same time, I just imagine the Harry Potter epilogue fiasco and go, no, I’ll just.. imagine what happened to those people myself 😂
+1
Glad you like it! I think this is the style of older novels (this is from 2016! xD). The end of the novel is usually the beginning of another story that’s left for you to imagine~~
Agree and agree. I binged it over 3 days. I wouldve liked more development in their romance but this made more sense. I also wanted more about chu lian after he left n maybe others from the sect.
such a sweet ending. thanks for the journey.
Thankyou
Not just Jian Yi, even Wen Xuan has grown so much through out the story. And personally, I think the unexplained parts of the story are fine the way they are because that makes the story seem more realistic. In life, some things are left unanswered, people come and go and we never find out what happens to them. Some stories tie up the loose ends so perfectly that it loses that depth. Even the side characters had good traits and bad traits. They’re not just one dimensional. Perfection in its imperfection. That’s how I’d describe this story 😊
Yeah! WX also had a great change – from a bit naive, good-natured, very willing to believe in the best in people to someone who can say ‘no’ or ‘stop’! And I really love it! (◍•ᴗ•◍)❤ The meticulousness with which the author approached the characters is a watchmaker’s precision! o(≧∇≦o) And the understatements or little holes are not too much of a problem in this story (=^w^=) The biggest problem is that the story is so short! Need more! (•‾⌣‾•)و ̑̑♡ Take care, Dear! Trying to guess which novel will be next on CG~ (ノ。≧◇≦)ノ
I really like this resolution! Although I feel Jian Yi’s emotional rebirth could have been given more attention and time, I’m glad to see this turnaround. I was really concerned about his mentality in the later parts of the novel. Thanks for translating! ❤
This seems to be the style of older danmeis (this one is from 2016). We see the beginning step in the right direction and are left to imagine the rest ourselves xD
I love it so much thank youuu😍
Thank you for reading. Glad you enjoyed it! ❤
This was freaking awesome. I haven’t seen many bls with character development like this. Is this really the end? Are there no extras???
No extras unfortunately. We can only imagine how they continue to grow together in the future
I don’t see Wen Xuan as passive per say. I think he’s person with very staunch set of principles, but falling in love was something very new for him. I don’t think by being a natural leader means that he knows exactly how a romantic relationship is suppose to be or how he should act in one. I don’t think anyone really knows, they just kind of stumbles along and hope things work out. I think we see flashes of moments where he’s equally possessive of Jian Yi and afraid of losing him. But the issue on his side is that he was never given the opportunity to understand Jian Yi. Jian Yi knew everything about him, but he knew nothing about Jian Yi. That itself placed a barrier in their relationship. He didn’t have a choice but to wait; he tried fighting to get through to JY’s heart, but JY wouldn’t let him. So he really didn’t know Jian Yi until the end, when he entered JY’s heart while he’s under the illusion.
Anyways, I think that’s the brilliance of this story. The characters are so complex, we all have our own interpretation and take away haha
I completely agree with everything you said! I enjoyed the fic overall (especially the beginning parts,) but kind of felt like venting in my heart a little with how some things went with WX. Then I came into the comments and saw you said it all perfectly already! 😆 I feel a little better now knowing someone else felt the same haha! ❤️
This story isn’t that long but it’s amazing how much the character developed and in such an organic way as well. I started reading this for the yandere ML (lol) but in the end I’m actually happy and surprised he managed to overcome that and let go of his past. Then WX becoming his new self is also a treat to read. I wished there’s a bit more epilogue or something bc I’d love to find out more about their journey together after their “metamorphosis”. I want more 😭
And another thing I liked was how the issue with the original MC of the novel was resolved. Even he got his own character development as well and it’s nice to read a story where the OG MC and our MC ended up on good terms as opposed to the original setting of the novel.
Well what else can I say other than I’m happy that this has a HE 😁
HELLO DEAR TRANSLATOR!!!!! I want to say, thanks so much for the chap dumps! It made it easy for me to be able to wait for the translation to be finished. I appreciate this, I hope more translators can be like you!
????? I’m only transferring over a completed novel that I had posted somewhere else previously. I post my translations by the chapter the same as every other translator. Translation takes time and effort and we do it for free. It takes months to translate a single novel. Also translators are not machines. We need comments, interactions, and support from readers to remain motivated. Sorry if this sound harsh, but if you really appreciate the work of translators then you should learn to be patient, instead of sounding like the speed of people’s translations are an inconvenience to you.
I see I didn’t know about the the transferring thing. But I didn’t mean to imply you were speedily translating chapters, I thought you already finished a lot translating them beforehand and just released them all at once. I’m sorry of it I sounded like I was pressuring you.
Well I binged this novel because it was so good. There’s some definite problems with JY but the character development in this novel is top notch. I think one of the reasons I felt so frustrated and annoyed at this JY is because of how well the author wrote this. I do feel the last chapter was kinda abrupt and I totally thought there would be a big confrontation with the ‘Protagonist’ that would involve WX and JY. Thank you for all your efforts and hard work in translating this novel! It is very much appreciated.
🥲 what a lovely story! I got kind of nervous there for a bit cuz I thought that this was jgojngbro be the end of an arc rather than the end of the novel but it was good! I think the characters were developed nicely and the world was complex with some original ideas worked in – though I do wish it was longer so the world and characters could have had some more time to develop and delve into themselves – but overall, it was really well done!! Thank you for the story 💕💕💕💕
Thank you for translating!
JYand WX were cute, but JY was the one who made WX waist sore was unexpected 😅
Lovely ending! <3
Thank you, Translator, for posting your work here. I’d probably have never been able to read this otherwise.
Godsdam, fuck, it’s already over?????? And he didn’t even properly ask for his hand in marriage???? My heart is way too weak for thisssssss
🌹
Love it love it wonderful history ❤❤❤
Excellent! Ecellent character building! I love how the author chose to write a healthy relationship ending! Beautiful!
Thank you so much for translating this novel! Cried a lot. Even though the end seems abrupt but I think it’s just new beginning for them, love how the characters grow even the unexpected OG ML and FL. Jian Yi broke my heart I’m glad he finally went out of his shell towards the light, Shixiong also matured and I love that now at least they can start to have a real more healthy relationship.
Awww I finnaly finished reading this! The last arc is so haaaaard to read, the angst is quite a punch. I enjoyed the story lol just a bit sad because I did not get to know some of the characters end. Especially that detestable sect leader, was hoping for some news on him. I also love the character growth of the characters, Wen Xuan and Jian Yi, although I ugly sobbed bcs of Jian Yi’s past lol.
Thank you for all you hard work! 🧡
Such a great story…I’m kinda speachless right now)
Thank you very much for your hard work!
Thank you so much for thissss i love it binged read!! I love the character development at the like last few chapters i actually was losing hope about jian yi but the ending satisfied everything thanks for translating
This was such a beautiful story, kinda feels like the novel protag disappeared and reappeared at one point but still was fun to read.
Thank you for your hard work Infinite :3 may you live a 1000 years.
Thank you for the novel♡
Ahhhhh its over already??? The fact that WX is a bottom is still shocking to meeee…….All this while I thought he was a gong……but anyways, its really a rollercoaster ride for me , dang i even almost drop this because of the excessive yandereness of jian yi.
My question is : the child that murong feng adopted , did he and wen xuan and jian yi had a meet up??
Ehehe. That’s why I had to put the warning at the start of the novel saying you have to read until the end. The answer to your question is…. that’s all up to your imagination~~
This has been a journey for both me and the MCs. I love the character development here and it feels like it ended on a good note but I’m also soo curious on how the world progresses after this.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I believe I said everything I wanted to said in the last 2 common sections. How much I appreciate it the way W Change it to someone with such strength Accepting himself, I also felt so much pain when I read about what happened to J His was so sad absolutely sad. I’m happy but I’d end the chapter he was trying so hard to change and to welcome out of people into his life into his heart, And I definitely couldn’t see his smile at end but I imagine it as a smile that personified freedom of the heart….
Exactly using voice typing for the previous comment. That was absolutely horrid I don’t think anyone could possibly understand what I was trying to say. Sum it up, I love each and every character
Thanks for translating 💕
Nice! Finally! The character development I so longed for! All that 40+ chapters of anxiety! Why oh why isn’t there some fluffy extras… Ah well, good enough, good enough, I finally read the entire story.
Thank you for the translation!
Ah, a happy ending, than goodness. I was starting to get worried.
Thank you so much, Infinite, for translating this novel, it’s won a special place in my heart ❤️
Thank you so much for this lovely gem 🥹♥️🍑
That was pretty sweet. A bit lacking in world building I think, with all the people that weren’t even worth a name, but the possibilities this world has are fantastic. Aaaaaah, I wish there had been more to read, more side characters to develop, especially that Ye-ge and his cute blind shidi… Thank you for making this work available to English redears! I wolfed that in 2 days, that was a nice read.
Great job!
Now that u’ve finished this, i dont know what to feel anymore. 😭
I want to be saved by you..
It’s humiliating but real at the same time. I feel like i got hit by the bus.
Thanks for the translation. ❤
I… I really devoured this novel in a week, studying for exams and filling out internship documents… I’LL MISS THEM 😭😭😭
Okay the ending feels a bit rush to me and it’s kinda not satisfying to me too 🥺
THANK YOU FOR TRANSLATING ❤️❤️
It was a beautiful journey
It’s feels good to see their character development. I’m kinda sad because there is no extra chapter. I really want to shake author’s shoulder and shout in front of their face to write the extras. I really want the dog food :’) gimmi the dog food! Btw
This is a good story, thanks for translated this
Daaaaang!!!! Breath of fresh air! I love WX so much! His character setting is what I needed the most! AAAAAHHH!! I love how he adapts to his situation. Oh my gooosssh! I love him!!!! It’s so right that he didn’t fell for Jian Shidi’s gaslighting skills mweheh. WX is the strongest character in the entirety of cultivation-setting danmei I’ve ever read. No one is as smart, capable, and strong as he is. His personality is unique and so enticing.
thank you translator!!!
I binged this in 3 days and honestly I’m destroyed I’m gonna read some fluff
I can’t say I’m happy with this ending, especially with the way they reconciled through sleeping together, but at least it is a proper ending. The revelation of Jian Yi being a horny teenager wasn’t all that surprising, but his sudden change in attitude towards everyone but Wen Xuan was rather abrupt. Honestly it would make much more sense if they forever parted ways in that mausoleum, WX disillusioned and JY heartbroken, but I guess the author wanted to write a “happy ending” and not tragedy so she decided to use an old rule in romance novels: “Every relationship problem can be solved with s*x”!
WX, on the other hand, maintained his core attributes, but also learned to stop being a self-sacrificing fool. He learned to stop taking abuse silently from people just because he cares for them or owes them something. That’s why in this story, instead of the OG story, he ends up leaving his sect and even leaving JY for a few years. That’s why I don’t consider the sex scene a reconciliation or WX yielding to JY just to create a ‘happy ending’. Instead, it shows that JY and WX had an unequal relationship previously, that there was still a layer of distrust between them, of secrets and hidden agendas. T hat’s why they never advanced their relationship during those decades in which they were on the island. but now they are finally comfortable enough, and understand each other enough to be intimate with each other to do the deed.
I’m still waiting on that spirit baby
This was such a beautiful read! I really enjoyed and I’m so proud of Jian Yi for growing as a person omg. Also agree that a couple more chapters would’ve been great to see some folks one last time.
And your translation is wonderful; I can only imagine how much effort it took. So thank you so much; without you, I would never have gotten a chance to read this story
I also wanted to ask you if I can re-translate it into Ukrainian? Of course, with credits to you and the original author. If you’re not ok with it and don’t want any re-translations, it’s not a problem at all, but I thought that it’s worth asking anyway 🙂
It’s up to you o /
Oh, some translators just don’t like it when people re-translate their translation (and it’s ok), so I didn’t want to do it without your permission, because it’s rude
Thank you 🤍
I rarely reread, but I’m glad I did this.
