A World where Mercenary Men are Called GoddessesChapter 28.1

Shring… shring…

Yuichiro heard the sounds of thin metals scraping. His left wrist was touched by something cold and icy. Yuichiro opened his eyes to find Noah clutching his wrist. Noah batted his eyes, and spoke, “Good morning.” poRIqw

“What are you up to?” Instead of responding to the greeting, Yuichiro mumbled with a yawn.

When Yuichiro gently lifted his wrist from Noah’s grasp, he noticed a thin gold chain wrapped in multiple layers around his wrist. The gold chain was inlaid with round stones that resembled pearls. Yuichiro asked Noah what it was as he held up his left wrist.

Noah, in turn, looked down at him, embarrassed, and whispered, “Because you said you wanted money…”.

[So, a gold chain, huh?] CFuwHv

Yuichiro laughed freely when he realized this. As he lay back on the bed, he chuckled lightly in the back of his throat. He felt something hard and lumpy against his arm as soon as he slid his arm over the sheets. The foreign object made him raise his upper body. His eyes popped open as he scanned the bed.

“What the hell is this?” His voice slipped out as he monologued.

There were numerous jewels scattered about on the bed. Rubies, sapphires, diamonds, and other valuable gemstones were strewn about the bed. There was also a massive mass that he had never seen in his previous world. The gems flickered and sparkled in a rainbow of colors whenever light shone through the windows. Yuichiro squinted at the bright light, which seemed too intense for him. Noah later picked up the scattered gems and gently placed them in one of Yuichiro’s hands.

“Is this enough? Do you need more?”

Yuichiro’s lips remained half-opened in response to the innocuous question. With the jewels in front of him, he could have lived for hundreds of years in his original world.

“I still have a lot of them. I’ll bring more if you need them.” Noah spoke impatiently to Yuichiro, who had gone quiet. When he was about to get out of bed, Yuichiro’s arm grabbed his hand and held him back.

Yuichiro said, “Wait. Enough. That’s enough for now,” in a strained voice, causing Noah’s cheeks to loosen as if feeling relieved.

Yuichiro was stunned for a moment as he looked at the jewels on the bed. Despite having received his wish, he was devoid of joy or exhilaration. In fact, he was overcome with a strange sense of loss. His wretched heart insisted that this was not his true desire. dvs0Ca

Even so, he couldn’t say that he didn’t want these things, even if he didn’t really want them. Otherwise, there would be no logic to his actions up to this point. He wouldn’t be able to explain the reasons why he killed people. While he stared at the jewelry morosely, Noah spoke to him timidly, “Yuichiro, don’t take that off,” pointing to the gold chain wrapped around his left wrist.

Yuichiro raised his wrist and examined the bracelet once more. The surface of the pearl-like stone inlaid in its center glowed with rainbow colors in the sunlight. Its iridescence inside was slightly transparent when light passed through it. Inside the stone, there was a cloud of dust particles that Yuichiro could not make out of.

“What kind of stone is this?”

At first glance, although the stone looked like a pearl, in truth it wasn’t actually a pearl. However, when he asked Noah, the young man became overtly anxious. After looking left and right, Noah answered in a slurred tone, “It’s very important. So be careful not to lose it.” Hrjd9l

This was not the answer Yuichiro was looking for. Regardless of how many questions he posed to Noah, the man remained silent.

[This kid sure is a stubborn child in a strange way.]

Afterward, Yuichiro drew his backpack from under his bed while pursing his lips. He then sprinkled the contents of his backpack, which he had brought from his world, onto the bed sheets. It contained a survival kit, several rations, a change of clothes, three pairs of socks, and an old, red-covered book. Noah picked up the worn red cover book and asked, “Yuichiro, what kind of book is this?”

Yuichiro couldn’t answer the question. After gazing at the book intently for some time, he finally remembered It. The book was one Oz had forced into his backpack before he was transferred into this world. dx2MEj

“It’s a bible.”

“Bai-bel?”

Story translated by Chrysanthemum Garden.

It seemed that the word ‘Bible’ was out of tune. Perhaps, there was no concept of the Bible in this world.

“It’s a book about God.” When Yuichiro gave a half-hearted explanation, Noah exhaled uninterestedly. The atter then lay on the bed, randomly flipping through the book, unable to read the word characters from Yuichiro’s world. W9YNVw

Yuichiro ignored Noah and gathered the gems on his unfolded jacket. He piled up the gems and wrapped them in his jacket. He then stuffed the entire jacket, jewel by jewel, into the bottom of the empty backpack. The backpack soon became heavy. As for the remaining pieces of jewelry that did not fit into his backpack, Yuichiro threw them into the bottom drawer of a nightstand.

“Do you believe in God, Yuichiro?”

Yuichiro came to a halt and turned his gaze to Noah in response to the unexpected question He saw Noah slumping over with his gaze down on the Bible.

“I don’t know,” Yuichiro said vaguely, unsure how to respond. QwGakF

[There’s no God. If there is one, why did my wife and daughter die?]

Yuichiro could not understand why someone who had lived righteously and honestly had to meet such a cruel end.

[There is no God. How can there be such a God?]

Yuichiro then continued, “At least, there was no God in the world I lived in,” muttering spitefully in a rage that was welling up inside him. He clenched his teeth almost immediately, hoping to calm his racing heart. But then he noticed Noah looking up at him. 0DW6nU

“Do you despise God?”

He snickered in response to the question. “What was the use of hating something that didn’t exist?”

“So, do you hate yourself?”

After hearing the sentence, Yuichiro immediately stopped breathing. The blood flowed to his feet before returning to the top of his head. Anger rose within him at the same time. Noah was not the target of the rage. Instead, it was a wave of anger akin to feeling ashamed of his own shallow self, which had already been exposed by a young child. OnLWdT

Yuichiro descended from the bed quickly and walked toward the door, not even looking at Noah’s face. Noah’s voice could be heard behind him.

“Where are you going?”

Yuichiro, on the other hand, did not feel like responding. He felt sorry for himself, ashamed of his own childish behavior. He then clenched his lower lip, opened the door, and walked out. Yuichiro walked aimlessly down the long corridor.

“Yuichiro, are you angry? Did I say something wrong?” 8l5yeb

Noah chased after him after he ran. Yuichiro steadily climbed the stairs that caught his attention, ignoring Noah’s voice that seemed to bother him. Noah’s voice became increasingly distant as their stride lengthened. In contrast, Yuichiro had no idea where he was going. However, anywhere was fine. He just wanted to vanish somewhere where no one could see him. Soon, he found himself on top of the castle wall after climbing the stairs.

Glancing left and right, he noticed several cannons.

Chrysanthemum Garden.

[Is this place, a cannon deck on the watchtower?]

As Yuichiro approached the edge of the stone wall that piled up like a fence, he could see a panoramic view of the castle grounds. The view was of a dreamlike white cityscape. If he let a realist painter draw this without using paints, it might turn out to be such an unrealistic scene. Looking beyond the city, the desert stretched to a horizon while the silvery white sky enraptured its viewers. To Yuichiro, this was a dazzling sight. 7wYuXf

All of a sudden, Yuichiro strongly realized that he had indeed come to a distant place. It was a feeling he had never felt before even when he had been to the other side of his world. In truth, it resembled nostalgia.

Yuichiro took a deep breath. Dry air rushed in and choked his throat. He coughed lightly while placing his hands on the waist-high stone wall. His arm was grabbed from behind the moment he bowed his upper body down. The gold chain that was wrapped around his wrist shook and lightly rang. A breathless Noah grabbed his arm as he turned around.

“Yuichiro, don’t leave.” A desperate voice sounded. Noah’s fingertips dug into his arm. It was as if this man was tying him to this spot.

“Where…” A half-crooked smile and a hollow voice escaped his lips. Yuichiro’s words were cut off mid-sentence just as he was about to continue. h7ALBd

[Where could I go? I can’t go anywhere. I don’t want to go anywhere.]

Even if he did return to his own world, there would be no one waiting for him. He had known this for a long time. But, like a spoilt child, he could not accept his reality. Yuichiro drooped his brows and remained silent, unable to respond to Noah’s question. Then he leaned against the stone wall. Noah finally relaxed his fingers as they faced each other as if relieved. Nonetheless, he would not let go of Yuichiro’s arm.

“I’m not going anywhere until I make you a true king,” Yuichiro said in a deliberately frightening manner.

In return, Noah was still staring anxiously at him. As Yuichiro peered back into those mesmerizing blue eyes, he wondered if the young man in front of him was looking at him like that. It was as if he was deeply afraid of losing him. Why was this man trying to hang onto a mere mercenary like himself who only worked for money? At the thought of this, Yuichiro immediately felt something akin to love welling up in his chest. ovsdeP

As a result, he reached out his palm and lightly stroked Noah’s head. Yuichiro muttered as he looked at Noah’s slightly relaxed expression, “I want to see the world you create.”

Yuichiro was unsure if he would be next to Noah when the man became king. Nonetheless, he was irresistibly curious to discover how the boy in front of him would change this world.

Thanks for reading! See you soon in Volume 2! OcrYQ2

Translator’s Notes

Phew, I think it’s been roughly two months since I started translating this novel. Although it took a while to get here, I’ve never once regretted picking this up! Not only that, but after reading all of your comments, I’m extremely happy that you enjoyed reading this as much as I do.

Right, some of you might also be wondering if Arc 3 arc ends here…. (seems kinda short isn’t it?)

Well, no worries! Arc 3 will continue in the early part of Vol.2. However, if anyone notices the title for Arc 3, it’s actually a hint, (kind of foreboding one in fact) of what’s going to happen to our leads here. The surprise, the twist, the revelation, new characters–you name it. You’ll find all of it compressed within the first few chapters of Vol.2 :blobfearful::blobastonished: UyM1T0

On another note, some of you might be wondering, if there’s an extra chapter. Yes, there is!

However, I’m sad to say this, but unfortunately, I’ve decided to make the extra chapter(s) for WMMG to be a token of appreciation to my Ko-fi supporters (one-off supporters & subscribers). Sorry for this. Therefore, if you happen to be one of my Ko-fi supporters in the past or my current subscribers, check out the extra chapter on my Ko-fi page! 🙌

And… as for the mentioned extra chapter in Vol.1, if anyone of you wants to know, it’s just a convo between Goat and Tyet or more of Goat’s introspection in general and it actually doesn’t affect your understanding of the storyline in any way. So, I guess, you can do without reading Vol.1’s extra. But, you’ll receive a piece of interesting information about Goat’s character and his viewpoint of Yuichiro. If you want to read it, Click HERE!:blobpeek:

Anyway, thanks for reading this chapter, and see you soon in Vol.2! If you have any comments about this volume in general, go ahead and leave your thoughts/comments below! srdeYm
