Burning off a leech or using salt to kill it are actually dangerous. As it dies, the leech will vomit its gut contents into the bite wound it created, leading to infection. The best way to deal with a leech is to either let it finish feeding if it’s a small species, or slide something thin under it and disrupt the suction keeping it attached. Once it loses suction, the leech will naturally release its bite and drop off.
