Voice Of Another ChanceChapter 28.1

The moment Asakura stepped onto the terrace, his eyes landed on a familiar face. Kurosawa Rintarou was standing right in front of him, leaning against the railing.

‘Well, Subaru told me I can scare people, so I guess he will have to make do. Just as well since it’s Kurosawa.’ Ff0aIo

Thinking he might be able to vent his frustration, Asakura walked towards the other man and patted him on the shoulder.

“If it isn’t Kurosawa-kun. How come you’re here and not doing editor stuff?”

“Taking a break. I still have an hour until I’m scheduled to meet with Keita.” Rintarou replied unabashed. Then, with a glance at Asakura’s expression, he continued to inquire. “How about you? Did you have a meeting with Kota-san?”

“More or less.” Asakura replied vaguely, lighting up a cigarette and blowing a puff of smoke. FEjkL1

“Did something happen? You don’t seem your usual self.”

“I’ve been exiled from my kingdom by a traitorous retainer and now I’m brooding over it.”

“Ha?”

Rintarou couldn’t stop his eyes from widening at these strange words. He blinked in bewilderment and remained silent. He held onto the hope that Asakura would explain further, possibly using a language he could understand.

“Mh.” Asakura grunted. “They’ve already gone for two weeks.” 4UMHuZ

“Eh, I see. And how long are they supposed to stay there for?”

“It depends on how smooth the shooting goes. But it should be around a couple of months, if not longer.” Asakura paused, then added in an undertone as if he was talking to himself. “That’s why I am worried about him…”

“Eh?” Rintarou looked perplexed again. “Him? Who’s him?” Then, all of a sudden something clicked in his mind and he let out a gasp. “Ah! ‘Him’! You’re referring to that young actor, aren’t you? Uhm, Imamura… Imamura Sato, right?”

Asakura puffed his cigarette in silence, ignoring the other man’s inquiring gaze. But as they say, silence is also a form of saying yes. Therefore, Rintarou directly interpreted Asakura’s refusal to reply as a silent confirmation to his conjecture. v2G3LY

“Then, why don’t you go there as well? You’re the main investor, so no one would dare say anything about it. This way you could also check out how the filming progresses.”

“I can’t.”

“What’s stopping you?”

“You’re so annoying!” Asakura threw out in vexation. “What if he doesn’t want me there? What if he thinks of me as a nuisance? Going all the way to Nara to check up on him… I don’t want to get in his way, or cause trouble for him.” eLkDJP

Asakura let out this rant in one breath until he didn’t have any air left. He almost ended up choking on the cigarette smoke. He glared at Asakura, as if the other man was at fault for his troubles.

On the other hand, Rintarou nonchalantly ignored the daggers Asakura was throwing his way and continued to argue his point.

“But you don’t know that’s what he’ll think. Stop making assumptions on your own and just go for it! If worse comes to worst, you can just return home and that’s that. But at the very least you tried. It’s better than brooding here, looking like a gloomy mushroom.” Rintarou finished giving his reasoning with a grimace.

“Kurosawa-kun, you’re getting cheekier and cheekier.” kU FEb

“Thank you for the compliment.” Rintarou bowed his head mockingly. “So, what are you going to do?”

Asakura fell silent once again. His cigarette was long extinguished by now, but he still kept rolling the cigarette butt between his fingers.

A few minutes later, he appeared to have made a decision. He threw away the cigarette butt and pulled out his phone.

“Kotarou, get me a ticket to Nara for tomorrow morning.” dK3h6G

Silence followed those words. Then, a second later, he answered resolutely to something the other party had asked.

“En. It’s very important. I’m chasing after someone.”

Back at his apartment Asakura was pacing back and forth in the living room like a beast inside a cage. All the confidence he had felt after talking to Rintarou had gone up in smoke.  3MBmsq

Now, he kept wondering whether he had made the right decision in asking Tachibana to buy that plane ticket. Was it really alright for him to follow after Sato? Or was it best to stay where he was and wait?

But if he waited, what would happen then? It’s not like things could move in any direction without him actively doing something. If he stayed like this, he could never go forward, backward, left or right. All directions would then be blocked by his own stupidity and he didn’t want that.

After a long battle with himself, Asakura took out his phone and dialed a number. Two rings later a cold voice came from the other end.

“What do you want?” wQIk04

Judging by the curt manner of greeting, it was clear that the person Asakura called wasn’t very happy. While his voice was icy cold, his tone dripped with absolute displeasure.

“Not very friendly, are you… Kyota?” Asakura grinned into the phone.
